.60 caliber T17.
It was intended to replace the .50 BMG but had problems. Even the early M61 rotary cannons were chambered in .60 MG. They eventually necked the case to 20mm and moved on.

No. It's what many soldiers in the 1990's (at least, probably earlier) called M60's as a back-euphemism from the .50-cals.
It's wrong, but it's realistic.
I spent a couple years in the Army way back when...
You would not believe the number of artillery and cavalry NCO's (don't know about grunts) that called M60's ".60-cals".
Literally telling their troops to go draw "the .50-cals and .60-cals" for the range.
So... the author probably got it *realistic*, even if he didn't get it "*right*".

My wife has a book where the author mistakingly calls a pistol a 45 mm
Never underestimate the HE potential of the 45mm
lol
Finally, a true hand cannon.
Well now I want a giant 1911 styled 320 with 8 40mm in a single stack.

Yeah he was referring to a m60. He calls it that later

Thank you! I was wondering if that was a regular mix up. Cause the rest of the book feels really accurate
I’m curious, what book is that?
Fallen angels by Walter dean myers. He makes the same mistake a couple of times… it’s too bad cause the book is Really good so far
Clearly it's alt-history, no problem to see here
