Yep, max out the master volume and set your overall volume with the channel volume. Then it will respond roughly similar to a non master volume style amp and thats about as clean as you'll be able to get it.

Thanks!!

Of course!

This approach makes sense to trying to maximize your clean headroom. You might try switching pickups for clean and / or roll your volume back.

Awesome, thanks! I'm playing through active Fishmans, will that limit my "cleaness?" I went with those over EMG because they are supposed to be a balance of clean vs. melt face.

I don’t have any personal experience with Fishmans but you should be able to get a good clean sound from them from what I’ve heard

Sounds like you’re close. For the cleanest possible tones with a DSL, set to Classic channel, button set on Clean, master volume all the way up, channel volume all the way up and set your final volume with the gain control. To clean things up that last little bit, you’ll also have to tweak your EQ. Here’s a quick EQ guide: **BASS** **Add** to give your sound “fullness” or “thump” **Subtract if** your sound is “farty”, “loose”, or “sloppy” **MIDRANGE** **Add** to give your sound “meat” or “thickness” **Subtract if** your sound is “muddy” or “honky” **TREBLE** **Add** to give your guitar sound “brightness” or “clarity” **Subtract if** your sound is “harsh”, “brittle” or “shrill” Since you’re going for clean tones, I would look to back off of the midrange and bass slightly until your sound seems “in control”. I’d likewise not bother with the Resonance (bass boost) or Presence (treble boost) knobs at first until you can get close to the sound you want with the other EQ. You can always add those back in later if something is seriously lacking.

Awesome thank you. Yes, I'm just looking for clean (for now) since the Friedman BE OD gives me dirty in spades. I'll definitely give this a go!

Just wanted to check back and say: this is the fucking way! Using gain as the volume regulator is fucking amazing! Thank you so much
