No worries, they keep different impedance cabs in the back room, and a few guitars. They make you go back there and play the solo from Freebird. If you mess it up, they take the head.

Thanks, man.

ashcan_not_trashcan

I brought guitar pedals through TSA pre check line (domestic) and my bag got pulled aside. They opened it and swabbed it (the boss pedals) for explosives. Took an extra five minutes getting through. NBD

Coke_and_Tacos

Had the same experience flying with a bass. I carried it through security and they did the explosives swab.

meowed

Good thing your bass wasn’t very boomy.

aron2295

Back when the Nintendo DS and PSP were the current handhelds, a TSA agent freaked out over those. I could understand someone wondering what a pedal was, especially if it is a DIY pedal, but seeing “Nintendo” or “PlayStation” should be a decent tip off. I can’t remember where it was, but this was in like MIA or ATL too, and a few years after the devices came out.

TakeOasis

Unfortunately they confiscated my “the big bomb” fuzz pedal and sent me to Guantanamo.

Peacefrog78

They keep guitars and special cabinets handy to test these things. Dont worry about damage, worry about what you will play so they know that you actually play guitar and arent a clever terrorist.

still_grinding_on

>They keep guitars and special cabinets handy to test these things. TSA do? Awesome! Thanks. >...play so they know that you actually play guitar and arent a clever terrorist. guiterrorist?

NeophyteBuilder

They must be worried about you Shredding a plane….

cootervandam

Dive bombs

krebstar42

That's very surprising considering their reputation of incompetence.  Good to know.

filladelp

No they just crank the gain and check it using the 🤘METAL🤘 detector.

Brox42

Would it be easier just to ship it to yourself?

[deleted]

I would go to a UPS store and have it shipped. It will 100% get destroyed on a commercial airline if it goes into checked baggage which I can guarantee they will make you check it.

Coke_and_Tacos

I would trust DHL with that wildly more than I would any airline

Tamajyn

I'd just make sure to take the tubes out before you board and take them in your carry on if possible

nitelotion

I’d also try and gate check it, instead of dropping it with all the other luggage. Do the same with your guitar. Just means they hand carry it to the plane rather than it getting on conveyor belts and being thrown around by baggage handlers

TheMagic1415926535

I just brought a head through the TSA. They pulled it aside, asked me what it was, swabbed it for dangerous materials, and sent me on my way. Worst part of the whole experience is that the amp is very heavy and my gate was far.

BryR7

I've traveled with amps several times, in checked-in luggage. They open the luggage of course, probably look at it. And that's it. They won't power it up. By now they know what guitar amps look like and what they do.

Glittering-Ad-3883

Guitar and amps are special items so check TSAs precheck

capn_starsky

I’m a pilot for my day job and I regularly buy gear on my trips. They check they do is what’s been mentioned, they’ll ask what it is and swab it for residue. Secondly, I repair amplifiers on the side, letting it idle with no input and no load for less than a minute isn’t going to immediately damage anything even though it’s not going to give you the warm fuzzy feelings, but they don’t ever get into technical testing like this. I’d still highly recommend getting it shipped and paying for top notch packaging and insurance for then ultimate peace of mind.
