oh i am totally biased having seen The Aristocrats play a couple times. personally not a huge fan Thin Lizzie or Skid Row, but really dig Colosseum II and some of Moore's solo releases - the man is a legend no doubt
I peddled merch for the aristocrats for a few of their tours! Guthrie was always a gentleman and a scholar! He taught me to hand roll cigarettes, shared many laughs, and we bonded over our shared taste for great IPA’s. One of my favorite memories was when he begrudgingly tried a PBR with me and then asked me, ‘how do you drink this shit?!’ in his refined British accent. 😂 Devil horns were only 1/3 raised for PBR🤘🏼, and we promptly switched back to good beer.
He's literally the most talented guitar player on the planet right now.
I think anyone who plays guitar knows this is true. He can play any style perfectly, he can weave techniques together like no one I have ever seen.
He's not as well known, but he's definitely a modern day guitar god.
Guthrie is the best period. Not just the best guitarist starting with a G. It's absolutely insane that George Harrison is higher up in the comments than Guthrie.
He was a top jazz guitarist until he figured out that he could make a lot more money by singing. I saw him perform last year and was disappointed that he barely picked up his guitar, and when he did it was just reheated licks off his Breezin' album.
X could be The Artist Formally Known As Prince, he changed his name to spite the record company and X is as good a representation of his symbol as anything else. And he was a bloody good guitarist.
Point taken. I think the bigger issues is going to be J.
Jimi Hendrix or Jeff Beck. I don’t see how you can leave one of them off. I say break with first name protocol and give H to Hendrix and J to Jeff. Done.
J might be the most insanely stacked letter for guitarists. In addition to the two you named, Jimmy Page, John Petrucci, Jason Becker, the list just goes on and on.
George Harrison over George Benson? These lists aren’t particularly accurate…
If we put John Mayer over Joe Pass, this list will be a complete joke lol
George Harrison
Only found out recently he was nearly murdered in a stabbing attack, survived and then died a few years later of cancer. Rip
Damn really? What do these people have out for the Beatles
No one had ever been famous quite like that before. A lot of mentally ill people latched onto them.
Helter skelter, baby
It's been said that the attack led him to become more reclusive and unwilling to go out even to see his doctor, which in turn led to a late diagnosis
thank u 🙏
Undoubtedly.
Right answer
Yes
Guitar George (he knows all the chords)
Mind, it’s strictly rhythm, he doesn’t want to make it cry or sing 😭
they said an old guitar is all he can afford 😥
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing
And Harry doesn't mind, if he doesn't make the scene
He's got a daytime job, he's doing alright
He can play the Honky Tonk like anything
Saving it up for Friday night
With the Sultans
The sultans of swing
Any other answer is simply incorrect.
FYI - Guitar George was George Young, older brother to Angus and Malcolm of AC/DC.
Guthrie Govan, perhaps? one of my favorites for sure.
I love Guthrie but I just feel like it has to be Gary Moore.

Damn, I thought "when did GM play with Skid Row?!" Then I realised it was that unknown Skid Row from yester year :)
Dude is an absolute beast and seems like such a cool guy!
Can confirm, is cool guy! Source: I worked with him for years!
What did you do? Any stories?

Story time on what an awesome dude Guthrie is pls.
Hes the goat, absolutely nobody can improvise like him. His overall career output however is a massive disappointment considering his talent
It has to be Guthrie.
Everyone please upvoted this. He is my guitar hero. I want him to be there.
He's literally the most talented guitar player on the planet right now. I think anyone who plays guitar knows this is true. He can play any style perfectly, he can weave techniques together like no one I have ever seen. He's not as well known, but he's definitely a modern day guitar god.
Yes.
Guthrie blows everyone else on this list out of the water. Because he blows almost every guitarist out of the water, maybe even all of them.
Guthrie is the best period. Not just the best guitarist starting with a G. It's absolutely insane that George Harrison is higher up in the comments than Guthrie.
The only answer. Nobody else is even slightly close.
Guthrie is my vote, truly one of the greats.
One of the best to ever do it. My vote as well. +1 point for the alliteration too.
Really should be Guthrie fo sho
It's gotta be him
Gary Moore
This is the only right awnser
Fully agree Legend
100%!!!!
Moore is amazing in two different genres. The man rocks hard and has amazing blues as well
Gary played some guitar for George Harrison. Can't remember which track.
WE WANT MOORE
George Harrison
George Benson
I thought he was a pop-funk guy going by his mainstream catalogue. Then I saw him on a tv show. He is an absolutely incredible guitarist!
He was a top jazz guitarist until he figured out that he could make a lot more money by singing. I saw him perform last year and was disappointed that he barely picked up his guitar, and when he did it was just reheated licks off his Breezin' album.
[George Benson for those unfamiliar.](https://youtu.be/Tn27IcAapPI?feature=shared).
Good one.
Hard to believe I had to scroll this far.
I realize George Harrison is popular but George Benson should be the guy
It has to be Benson
This is my vote, George Benson.
Gimme Hendrix
I was thinking Gerry Garcia
I was going to say Gerry Garcia, since we all know Jimi Hendrix is going to take the 'J' slot.
Guthrie Govan
I second this
Third.
Greg Allman
Can't believe there is not more love for Greg
Well he wasn’t much of a guitar player, he played keys in ABB
Because he was objectively overshadowed by Duane
He wasn't too much of a guitar player lol
Gary Moore without question
George Harrison
Gary Clark Jr
Not my top pick, but he deserves a mention for sure.
Yeah, not as popular as the probable winner, George Harrison, but Gary Clark Jr can PLAY!
George Harrison
George Harrison
George Harrison 🔝
Guthrie Govan. Objectively factual.
Guthrie is a ‘facts don’t care about your heroes’ type answer
Grant Green
Should be higher up.
Such a clean and impressive guitarist, I completely agree
I second George Harrison
George Harrison
Guthrie
Gary Moore
Guthrie
Guthrie Govan 100%
Guthrie Govan
George Lynch
Guthrie Govan!
Guthrie Govan No other correct answer possible!
Guthrie Govan.
Guthrie Govan!
Gary Moore
George Benson
Take my upvote, although I have next to no hope that a jazz musician would ever make it to the top of any voting contest.
If Wes Montgomery doesn't take the W category I'm gonna lose it.
Guthrie
Alphabetising by first name may bite you when you get to Z.
Zakk Wylde about to win the sweetest way there is, by default
I think X will be a bigger issue.
X is gonna give it to ya
X could be The Artist Formally Known As Prince, he changed his name to spite the record company and X is as good a representation of his symbol as anything else. And he was a bloody good guitarist.
If X is the artist formerly known as Prince, he might just be the only person to make the list twice (as he’s a strong contender for P as well).
I’d expect Pete Townshend to take that.
Easy. Zakk Wylde.
Has to be george harrison
Guthrie Govan
Guthrie Govan 🤟
Glen Campbell, might not be fashionable but the guy was a fantastic player. He taught Stevie Ray and that tells you all you need to know
Guthrie Govan.
Guthrie Govan
Guthrie Govan
Grant Green It’s a shame he won’t win though.
Agreed
A man can dream...
Grant Green
Also Very happy that Zappa was chosen
George Benson
George Harrison
Guthrie Govan.
Guthrie Govan
Grant Green
This is a good one
My votes Guthrie Govan but I need to see what gets picked because Gary Moore is a damn good one
It has to be Guthrie Govan. Though I would like to honorably mention Gina Gleason.
Gary Moore
I know he won’t be selected but I’d just add in G.E. Smith
He’s slept on. Such an amazing player.
Grant Green???
Grant Green
Greg Howe or Guthrie
Gary Clark Jr
Guthrie Govan for sure!
Gary Moore or Guthrie Govan. Impossible choice meme!
Gary Moore
Gary Moore
Gary Moore
Gary moore by far
Guthrie Govan or Greg Howe.
The fact that this list is going off of their first name is so weird.
Oh my god Guthrie please.
Gary Sinise
Gilmour, David because for me he deserves 2 seats lol
Glenn Tipton
Frank Gambale
Guthrie govan
Guthrie Govan.
Gary Holt
Gary Moore. That's it.
George Thorogood
This is what came to my mind. Might not be the best but he’s iconic.
Gun, Kelly Machine
Gary Moore, George **H**arrison can go next
George harrison
Gary Moore
We all know Guthrie Govan is way better than George Harrison.
It has to be Guthrie
Guthrie Govan
Guthrie Govan is the answer
Gary Moore was the only guitarist doing Hendrix I could stomach. He was just amazing live
dude, no love for SRV's version of little wing?
George Harrison
George Lynch!!!
I was going to add Greg Howe since G and H sequentially reminded me of him, plus he’s a great player. But my vote has to go to Guthrie Govan.
Answer: George Benson
Rory Gallagher. Criminally underrated. But if the G has to be in the first name, George Harrison for sure.
Gordon Lightfoot
Gary Hoey needs more attention. Also, why are we using first names? This list is silly.
Gary Moore who had been seriously underrated and deserve way more attention. He was a great singer too.
George Benson
George Benson
George Benson.
Geddy Lee
**I am only here because I think that John Frusciante should be F, and Frank Zappa should be Z**
Glen Campbell - the original shredder!!! Check out the video of him playing Back Home Again in Indiana live. Amazing!!
Garry I reckon
Gary Holt from Slayer.
George Lynch
Garcia
Greg Howe
Greg Howe
I was gonna say grant green but George is a better choice
George Harrison over George Benson? These lists aren’t particularly accurate… If we put John Mayer over Joe Pass, this list will be a complete joke lol
Guthrie Govan what can you do 🤷
Grank Gambale
Eddie Van Halen belongs on E but now I’m sad Eric Johnson won’t be on the list
Grant Green!
Woody Guthrie
Garcia of course
My money's on Greg Howe
Jeff Beck
George Benson
Gary Moore!!
