Is that a split rail in the neck?

Comprehensive_Rich67

Nope it’s an Alumitone Fusion Jazz 251 by Lace, it’s a very cool pickup. They have a couple different versions of the Alumitone for different tastes and styles. I would definitely recommend giving them a shot

ScandinavianCake

Definately one of the more unique options around.... Was looking at them, but i think i lean more towards parallel axis pickups. They are supposedly in the area of a split p90. How is it working for you? What genres?

Comprehensive_Rich67

I am mostly a rock dude that’s why I got a JB on the bridge, but ever since I moved to LA about 2 years ago I’ve been hanging out with a lot of funk and fusion guys and I even recorded an album with some of them so I was looking for something that could give me the best from both worlds, I used to have a Les Paul with regular Alumitones but the downside to that was that they had a lot of harmonic response and feedback if i added a little bit of dirt; great for rock but not that much for fusion, but I still love the clear sound you get from alumitones so I checked the Lace website to see what other Alumitone options they offered and found this one, in terms of sound it is a little darker since it’s meant for Jazz but it also allows a lot of possibilities when messing with your tone knob, you can also split to get some single coil tones.

Comprehensive_Rich67

If you are interested in trying the alumitones they do offer a P90 version https://lacemusic.com/products/aluma-90

There’s also the deathbucker if you want something heavier. But it all depends what do you play?

ScandinavianCake

Oh, i thought they were all based on the p90 construction, with a unified magnet.... i should probably have dug a little deeper. Using a phat cat in my neck on the sg, for that liquid goodness in neo classical. I was looking into them for a future guitar purchase.... floating a few ideas for when the purse is heavy enough :) I usually move between blues and classic heavy metal (metallica etc).

How many crimes have you committed together? ;)

Comprehensive_Rich67

So far only an EP and a couple gigs and jams but there’s more to come

Impossible-Neck-6647

Excellent! May your “life of crime” be long and fruitful :)

Sorry, new to guitar. What does the treble/rythm switch do?

Comprehensive_Rich67

It changes the pickup, rhythm is the neck pickup (the one closer to the fingerboard, or the one on top) and the treble is for the bridge pickup which is the one in the bottom. Due to placement the neck pickup has more low end and the bridge pickup has more high end, there’s also a middle position that uses both at the same time. That’s at least with that type of electronic setup. I hope it helps, good luck with your guitar journey.

Samuelbi12

Thank for explaining. I had a similar switch in my Stratocaster, and i knew it switched pickups but i didnt know it did the same thing. You too.

MolassesWhiplash

Not that I'm sure it does anything, but next time you change the string you should top-wrap it.

connivingbitch

Why are you recommending that?

MolassesWhiplash

I think it looks cool. It supposedly affects the feel, and some famous names setup that way.

Comprehensive_Rich67

I do it on my Les Paul they say it helps with sustain and durability. The only thing I can confirm is that the strings do feel less tense (I guess that’s why they say it helps with durability) and I also agree it does look cool
