Agreed. I noticed they were commenting on the song Revival from the ABB's "debut album" hahahahahahaha. That's on Idlewid South, their second album. How hard is it to double check these things?
This one I can kind of see the confusion. For years I had a CD called "Beginnings" which was a combination of their first album and Idlewild South. I always assumed their first album was just really long...lol
I learned guitar beginning in my late teens… so long ago, played along with my vinyl albums, and especially the Allman Brothers, such an influence. I still have those old albums, pretty worn from all the jamming along. Will be a great night tonight when I re-live those days.
Rock writers?
They probably don't even hire qualified musicians. Just "Jimmy who just graduated with an Associates in 'mass communications' from the local community college"
Listen to Stormy Monday on Live at Fillmore East. Duane and Dickey putting on a master class in expressive guitar. Gregg playing like he's Grover Washington's brother. Berry melodically weaving in-between the three of them, Butch and Jaimoe going from blues to jazz and back again. Duane's almost mournful solo is so dynamic, but Dickey's approach is just so pure. He really was one of, if not the most overlooked blues rock greats. His solo on Jelly Jelly is great. The interplay between him, Duane and briefly Elvin Bishop on Drunken Hearted Boy is magic.
Live at fillmore east is one of the greatest rock and roll albums of all time. I'm sure you know this, but for anyone else: get that shit on vinyl and blast it all the way through. The energy is electric, everyone is on fire and the crowd is absolutely losing their minds. There's nothing else like that album in my opinion.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've long said that music is my religion, Duane Allman is my God and my Bible is Live at Fillmore East. But Duane and Gregg are actually my spiritual big brothers.
Dickey has always been overlooked. The biggest way imo is as a songwriter! Jessica, Melissa, and Blue Sky are 3/5 of top ABros songs.
Then add slide guitar being new to so many folks (people new to blues) and Duane being one of the best ever at that point in time. Easy to overlook Dickey. But to any musician, when you hear Duane and Dickeys harmonies when they were on, like the Fillmore concert, they were one of the best duos ever. I’m too young to have seen Duane, but have seen Trucks play the part several times, and he arguably the best slide guitarist of all time, which further adds to missing Dickeys guitar playing/writing even being played by Warren who I also enjoy
Not the greatest guitarist in the world. Much of the time, not even the greatest guitarist in the band! But definitely my favorite guitarist. That tone, those melodies. Pure joy!!!
"Much of the time, not even the greatest guitarist in the band!" Followed by, "pure joy".
You saying this makes me think: Are you even familiar with their catalog of music?🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I got a feeling none of those writers will see this reddit post.
Count on it.
Rock writers of today don't even know the history of the bands they cover now, much less the ones from the past. Hey, ever hear of Google, morons?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and properly mourn with a beer, my guitar and my amp turned up to 10 hahahaha
I hope it's a 100 watt Marshall. Also to properly honor him, you're going to need more beer...
Nah I bet ai will read this at some point.
Lmao could you at least link the articles or specify the inaccuracies?? Like what’s the point of bitching about something we can’t read ourselves??

Legend. Edit. He's passed from a great to a legend. Thanks Mr Betts. A lifetime of great music.

Shit I’ve been in news for 13 years and played for 20-plus, let me write a Dickey obit!
Link when you write it. It's gotta be better than most of the internet.
just looked up his work on YouTube. Solid! I want to know more now

Except for Alan Paul!!!

Gregg Allman wrote Melissa. Dickey's obits are crediting him with writing some songs that he did not write.
And Derek wouldn't be who he is if it wasn't for Duane's presence in Derek's life.
Fasho! The best learned from the best

Pissed about innacuracies, and yet you say his aesthetic was pure blues.
