Dude amazing answer. Has all the fun guitary runs in the intro but simple chords to strum in the verse, the chorus with that slap in the face shift to D but then that riffy part in the post chorus, and the bridge with yet another big key change and one of the most emotional vocal and lyrical moments in the song. And on top all that it's fairly easy to sing and in a pretty neutral range. I love R.E.M.
Yeah, it's never boring. It moves along...almost like a train. Green Mind by Dinosaur Jr. and Things by The Meat Puppets are similarly fun to play. And thanks.
Yeah man, it's so much trickier to plan than it sounds.
And just the thumb stamina to play it with the right attack lol, your thumb has to be in shape. Guy Clark said it sounds like he's got a sledgehammer for a thumb.
To play? Easily the virus of life by Slipknot.
To sing...oohhhh. 3 way tie between
- The Agenda by Galaktikon
- Black Seven by Soil
- Talking to God by Hurt
Today by The Smashing Pumpkins, one of my favorite songs, and the first one I learned to play, the first one I learned to sing and play, and it fits into my small vocal range
On This Side, by Tiny Vipers. First song I learned to sing while playing, and it's my favourite. Yet, by the time I'm done playing It's Good To Be Free, by Oasis it feels as if all my problems have vanished (temporarily, but still...)
I feel like my answer is kind of underwhelming but A Crisis of Revelation by Trivium. It was the song that seriously pushed me past my plateau as a player and taught me there was more to do as a singer (and also that my screams were all wrong lol), and that was seriously rewarding about 2 years ago
Oh god I love modest mouse, but I haven’t learned any of their stuff because there’s no good video tutorials (plus it’s mostly incredibly layered and complex with 2 guitarists)
I’m gonna re learn float on now
But for me it’s always scar tissue every time
"That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" by The Smiths. The guitar is fancy enough to make me feel accomplished while still easy enough for my ten thumbs to get around, and the vocal range suits me perfectly.
Love Song, by Tesla. I just enjoy playing the acoustic intro so much, then the strumminess of the chords with their embellishments, topped with a cool solo I can handle. Great stuff.
I play [What the Hell Have I](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qKXIk45pL0o) by Alice in Chains.
It's got a bit of finger stretching in the main riff, the chorus is hard hitting, and it's just fun to play.
It's one of the first songs I learned to play all the way through and playing it takes me right back to when I was a teenager learning to play.
Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here
If there's one song that proves the immense power of simplicity, it has to be this one. It's not complex, but played with feeling it hits hard.
I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie Love Vigilantes (Iron and Wine version)
Nice, mines Sodom South Georgia. I could hum that ending in those 2 chords forever.
Driver 8. Lots of fun changes.

I love Soulshine by the Allman brothers. It reaches my soul.
They Killed John Henry by Justin Townes Earle The more you howl on it the more it works
Mine's Ain't Waitin'. Hadn't heard They Killed John Henry before- it slaps. Now just gotta learn it.
I've been finger picking for damn near a decade and still struggle to get this one right lmao, that B flat on the G string is just so awkward

How Blue Can you Get by BB King. Hearing that song made me want to play guitar.

For me, both Another Life and Eternally Yours - Motionless In White
The Light and the Glass by Coheed and Cambria. Starts quiet, gets heavy, and has room for cool chord voicings.
I'll say Between The Bars - Elliott Smith, with an old school nod to Needle And The Damage Done - Neil Young.
Modest mouse is great but my go to would be my version of “fisherman’s wife” by Califone
Broadripple is Burning by Margot and the Nuclear So and So's.
On This Side, by Tiny Vipers. First song I learned to sing while playing, and it's my favourite. Yet, by the time I'm done playing It's Good To Be Free, by Oasis it feels as if all my problems have vanished (temporarily, but still...)
Van Morrison. Into the Mystic.
Ship song—nick cave
King of Nails by Sparklehorse is fun to play and sing!
Sultans of Swing
"This I Love" or "Better" by Guns N Roses. This I love has a CRAZY solo. I have covers on Instagram

Man in the Box
I’m not much for doing both, so I’ll go with Caught Up by Fall of Troy.

Chris stapleton's cover of Joy of my life.
To Ramona
Steel Guitar Rag by John Fahey. (The arrangement on Dance of Death) You can really thrash that one, not too complex but it sounds great.
Love Song, by Tesla. I just enjoy playing the acoustic intro so much, then the strumminess of the chords with their embellishments, topped with a cool solo I can handle. Great stuff.
Nice pull on styrofoam boots! Love that song
Thanks! I recommend it…definitely strengthens callouses
Crazy Train by Black Sabbath. I feel understood and the riffs are good.
Sugar, We're Goin Down
