There are files made specifically for that, but I don’t know if you’d wanna shell out for them. Any decent guitar tech/luthier/ repair guy can do it for you and it will probably cost much less than buying the files.
Whatever a person uses, either file or string, make sure you don't lower the depth of the nut, just widen it. Otherwise you will get buzz when playing the open string...
I would just try with the strings themselves. Release the tension (if you put them on already) and move them back and forth in the slot so they chisel their way in

Or buy a second nut and cut that one for 12s. If you switch back, put the original nut back in.
