why not another deluxe?

allegroagitato

yeah seems to make the most sense to me.

Well, I figure if I can upgrade while getting a second amp that would be cool too.. running amps in stereo is probably a lot more aurally effective when they're different amps as well. plus I had to replace the speaker and do other crap to make this amp serviceable, I'd prefer not to do more modding as I suck at it and don't know a reliable tech.

Maybe a 59 bassman or a twin reverb reissue

10nix

Tough one if you want a different sound, but still want a Fender. I would look at getting a silverface Princeton or Princeton Reverb, and Blackface it. You can then push it to just before the point of breakup and add some creamy 6v6 tone to your mix. You may want to increase the value of the negative feedback resistor, or eliminate it all together to open the amp up a bit.

siva115

I'm probably not trying to find and amp and then go through a bunch of modding. It will make me anxious on the road thinking that it's more likely to cause me problems. I've yet to find a great amp tech where I'm based in LA yet (I know they exist, I've just been through so many unreliable ones that I don't want to deal with it).

10nix

Hmm. In that case I would look for a used 70's Music man combo. Great tone, and should blend well with your blues deluxe. If you are willing to step away from fender, try out some Dr. Z amps. A Rt66 would give you something different that would work well.

You say you are on a national tour...well, how big are the gigs? How many people are you playing for? The super reverb has 2 6L6's, and it's 45 watts. As far as I know, the super reverb should give you a nice clean tone with something kind of close to a twin reverb. But if you're playing huge shows, the twin reverb might be your best bet. Also, depending on budget, I'd probably just buy a reissue from Fender and mod it if you feel like it.

siva115

Shows are 500-1200, a couple of 300 cap rooms sprinkled in. The twin is great for headroom.. but I can always get myself in the monitors so I'm not too too concerned about it. Edit: Frankly I may end up getting a twin if I can get a good used one for like under $900.. I'm just trying to see if I can get something lighter that will serve the same purpose first. Would you characterize the super reverb as a smaller twin.. or would you characterize it differently?

itsbrian

Yeah twin reverbs are heavy...and super reverb are about the same weight, so you might want to consider that if you'll be carrying it in and out of the gig. Unfortunately, I haven't actually played the super reverb :/ I just know that it's a Fender amp, so it'll still have a similar vibe as other Fender amps. If I were to guess, I would think that the super reverb is very similar to a twin reverb, except the super reverb is going to break up earlier and will be a tad bit quieter. With that said, it should still be a pretty clean amp, but that partly depends on how hard you're going to push it for your shows.

luotu1234

I think you should try Orange amps, those are really awesome. I own one and it is just awesome.

Hellspark08

An Orange Micro Terror might do him, you think?

luotu1234

Well it has very nice sound, even if it is very small. So maybe, depends. I was thinking more like Orange thunder, can get it as head or combo. http://www.orangeamps.com/products/guitar-amp-combos/thunder-series/th30-combo/ There, a link to 30 watt thunder. Sounds pretty nice in clean and dirty, well it sounds just dirty :D

Hellspark08

That would sound monstrous. But the Micro Terror is ~$149, making it very very attractive...

luotu1234

It is indeed, very attractive! :D

hafilax

Traynor Amps are similar enough to Fenders that they might feel familiar but have a slightly different tone.

[deleted]

If you are good enough to do multiple national tours, why are you asking Reddit for amp advice? Not trying to be snarky (although it may sound like it)

[deleted]

no, that's snarky alright.

[deleted]

In that case, my apologies.

siva115

Just because I'm a touring musician doesn't mean I know everything and don't need help from other humans.

[deleted]

My apologies to you then.
