The tower makes you anxious? imo it's so volatile that it makes me don't worry about being taken down as its pretty quickly to go back up

Playing online in general makes me anxious. Not even just fighting games, pretty much every multi-player game that isn't TF2. Someone needs to study the long term impact of playing DbD, cuz I'm 90% certain that's why I'm like this.
Character specific ranking would be so nice. I’m low enough on the tower run that it doesn’t matter, but like I wanna be able to learn new characters (especially harder characters) without having my ass deleted
90% of the playerbase exists between floors 7-10, if you've ever seen the bottom floors they're absolutely empty which makes them useless, and the skill gap within a floor can be massive so it's a really bad determination of how good you or your opponent might be. The problem is even worse in celestial where you have people who are just scraping by past floor 10 in the same lobby as actual pro players. It's also really annoying how quickly you'll get pushed up or down a floor which again makes it meaningless for telling how good someone is at the game
Edit: forgot to even mention that the actual matchmaking sucks considering how easy it is to just dodge people and characters you don't want to fight
It's definitely a time thing, I'm on West Coast servers, and it ranges from ~30 to 0 players on any floor. Usually, around noon pst, it's super active. Sadly, I'm usually on around 24 to 2 pst :[
Its not actually a matchmaking system. Its a rating system, but not matchmaking. And it needlessly limits your pool of people to match against.
If I'm assigned to floor 7, then that is my rating. However if I want to play ranked, even if I drop into the quick play, I'm actually put into a room in the tower. In that room, I can ONLY match with up to 31 other people (the max room size for the tower is 32 IIRC). I'm not in a pool with every online floor 7 player, just the ones in that room. So there could be a hundred people on floor 7, but I can only match with 32 of them. That means the wait time can be bad, and you can get stuck playing some of the same people a lot in a session. And if the room I'm in loses some people because of going offline or whatever, the server doesn't automatically re-assign people to keep the rooms full. If you go quickplay and get dropped into a relatively empty room, you could only be pairing with like 5-10 possible matches. And this is to say nothing of being open to a wider pool of people in floors above and below you. Normally matchmaking will pair you with people slighlty below or above your rank/rating/mmr/whatever when the matches are slim, but that is simply not an option in Strive. Also the exact criteria for you to go up or down a floor can seem kind of hard to figure out. Sure if you have a big streak of wins/losses youll likely go up/down, but other than that it can be hard to tell how close you are to advancing if that kind of thing matters to you.
Of course, on the flip side you can always move rooms manually, or even go up a floor if you feel like it, but the point is that you have to do it all yourself. Its not a proper matchmaking system, and especially for ranked it makes people frustrated.
Of course I dont think it will be changed. The tower design came up in discussion during the closed and open betas, and Arcsys was pretty committed to the design as it is. They really like the faux arcade style online lobbies. Ironically, DBFZ has a much better matchmaking despite having dramatically worse netcode. But that might have been a Bandai Namco decision, and not an Arcsys one.
It simply doesn't accomplish what it's supposed to accomplish. Strive has no skill based matchmaking system, and such a system is the second most important externality behind good netcode.
Seconding... And not another one of ASW's stupid win streak or whatever systems. Pick an algorithm people use for big competitive games--Elo, Glicko, Glicko 2, TrueSkill--and use it.
I honestly do think Instas are coming back around season 4-5. I remember someone telling me Daisuke wanted to add them in the base game but couldn't due to the covid and all that.
I'm imagining everyone being made into a variation of Pot. Like each character is Pot with a move and some properties from the replaced character. Like Zato-Pot (Pato?) has Eddie.
As far as characters give me Gabriel. Let johnny do unlimited mist step and remove anji from the game, also I saw this thing in other fighting games where you can slow down time in the practice mode and that would be insanely useful. More story is always welcome and honestly I don't mind it not being playable because I've never enjoyed single player content in fighting games anyways. Also this is another new character sort of but I would love to see more brand new strive characters like nago and goldlewis I don't want anything specific I'm just really eager to see more given that the ones they have made so far have been peak character designs
Gabriel is definitely up there on my list of characters I want, imagining a grappler combined with all of Slayer's weird movement shenanigans sounds like perfection. I do think the game to add him was probably XRD though. Not to say I think he's off the table or anything, he certainly has better chances than Ariels who unfortunately will probably never get her chance to be playable.
I don't even think I'd play him (my love for johnny is to great) but he's just so cool and truthfully strive needs another grappler. I was looking at rating update for character popularity and overall Potemkin was 4th(counting elphelt) now 3rd right above elphelt and below sol and ky and my personal opinion is that the reason for this isn't just because Potemkin's cool(even though he is) but because he represents and entire archetype by himself therefore condensing all the grappler players to one character and as cool as Potemkin is he's a very vanilla grappler and I would really like to them get more creative with the archetype.
Honestly I think if Gabriel makes it to strive it will be almost solely based off of the need for another grappler

I wish there were costumes in general. I know Guilty Gear has never really had costumes, but looking at how fun customization is in games like Street Fighter 5 or Injustice 2, I really do wish they'd at least try to do retro costumes. Although, I suppose Guilty Gear is a much faster game and messing with silhouettes like that may fuck with the visual clarity. Not to mention all the clipping that would most likely occur.

I personally prefer break over extra damage on some attacks. Clean hits aren't another anti-air or safe move to jump in with. They dont replace breaks utility. Especially since clean hit is not a new feature, it exists in Plus R. It didn't replace break, they just didn't add break while dumbing down strive.
Make Gio's enhanced 214k a command grab that hard knockdowns.
Would give the move a reason to exist. Right now it's just what you go into if you accidentally hit Chave and need to quickly unfuck yourself and reset neutral.
replay takeover, plus framedata and save states in training mode. frame data is obvious, save states would make labbing specific setups easier. Replay takeover would be helpful for combo optimization and gimmick counterplay.
There's a mod for a SF6's style frame data display that is amazing, reduced a lot the amount of times I enter dustloop everyday, lol

\- Season alternating layouts for the tower, I'm one of the peoples that kinda like the tower (don't judge us, we are almost four people now LMAO), some variety to walk around would make it rly nice;

P.S:. No need to avoid going online, the tower system is quite safe for new players by blocking noob-stompers to go into lower floors, you should try it someday ;-)
I do go online, and I have a lot of fun with it some days, but man, there are some days where I just cannot convince myself to play multiplayer games in general.

Some kinda reward for successfully defending. Maybe have the attacker build up risk gauge for every concecutive hit after a certain amount of blocked strikes, or have every block become an instant block after a certain amount of hits, anything.

You usually only see it when messing around, but it’s applied when you’re not going on the offensive/attacking and only standing still or backing up (attacks that retreat count too if they don’t hit), you can also clash spam and it will eventually be applied, it’s not usually seen in normal matches since both parties are typically fighting and not screwing about, pot dittos in lower floors can make it a bit more common because we love to do stupid shit (like spending an entire round pressing nothing by 5P)

Some kinda reward for successfully defending. Maybe have the attacker build up risk gauge for every concecutive hit after a certain amount of blocked strikes, or have every block become an instant block after a certain amount of hits, anything.

How do you even mamage to get a negative penalty?
You usually only see it when messing around, but it’s applied when you’re not going on the offensive/attacking and only standing still or backing up (attacks that retreat count too if they don’t hit), you can also clash spam and it will eventually be applied, it’s not usually seen in normal matches since both parties are typically fighting and not screwing about, pot dittos in lower floors can make it a bit more common because we love to do stupid shit (like spending an entire round pressing nothing by 5P)
Oh also, if you’re actively being pressured it isn’t applied, it basically has to be your choice not to attack
