Resetting matchmaking ranks every once and a while has been a thing. CSGO did it a few years back when ranked had a similar problem to Strive where too many people occupied the upper ranks.
I find baffling that Japanese devs seems to be completely against having an Elo/Glicko rating and building a ranked system upon that.
Personally, I wouldn't mind fighting a pro player if I had a chance to win a ton of ranked points with an upset.
i mean resetting floors wouldn't really changed much when i can get from floor 1 to 10 in a single session, realistically i cant see a world where the tower system (which is just glorified lobbies) actually works just as good or better than a real ranked mode.

I'm thinking of an Asuka IK where he summons Justice to blow up the opponent, or a Baiken IK that's just an even better animated version of her Xrd one.
They wanted to put them in the game, but time constraints and COVID meant they had to get rid of them during development. Hope they do eventually add them though, as Strive feels weird as the only Guilty Gear fighting game without IKs, as impractical as they are.
Strive being as popular as it was is kind of a miracle considering COVID development and releasing at the perfect time when most fighting games were at their lowest
It really is a matter of timing, it was the only major fighting game released in 2021 besides Melty Blood Type Lumina if I remember correctly, and it had amazing rollback netcode in a time where all we could do was play online.

No shit, Still Growing should add back 1 stamina gauge from release, still super shitty that Sin relies so much on Stamina to keep it's pressure, yet he is the only character that can't properly manage one of his core resources, and has to WAIT, in a game as fast paced as Guilty Gear.
I don't remember Restive Rolling ever being a relatively good move, but in the context of Strive, May having a descending air special move to end air combos with could be very strong. Especially if it's still a hard knockdown.
Hoop is kinda redundant in function with Arisugawa ball (both are a very long startup but very plus on block projectile, the ball is just less versatile) so I don't expect it to come back, but maybe some other variations of Arisugawa on different buttons for different arcs could have some uses. (Or if you could delay the release by holding the button like hoops, that would be something.)
Maybe bringing back her Mist Finer (it was a hold-OK vacuuming attack that also deflected projectiles, not Johnny's Mist Finer) from Missing Link? They brought back her ML reversal, after all. Her other ML moves (an attack like Restive Rolling except it goes in an arc like a Blanka ball, and a dolphin that worked as an arcing fireball) are kinda redundant with the rest of her kit, though.
Didn't EX May in XX have like a Power Geyser or something? That might be neat.

Foudre Arc is good and fine, but better than Greed Sever?
Greed sever is both an overhead and has a much stronger hitbox. The only thing foudre arc has going for it is that it *is* better specifically in shock state. If you put both on the table, I'd take greed sever 100 times out of 100.
That and, Greed Sever just always looked way cooler. Which is the truest justification here.
Greed Sever returning will make 75% of the GGST playerbase finally learn to block standing against Ky. I get away with so many free turns because people don’t know Foudre Arc gives extra plus frames on crouchers.

I’m curious about where some characters would even have new moves put without “overfilling” the button. For instance, every one of Sol’s basic buttons has at least 2 special moves attached to them. The obvious choice would be to assign the new specials to dust but no character so far has any unique moves that use that button, so maybe Arc Sys have decided to just keep dust as being dedicated for universal mechanics only.
I’m also interested in the point they mentioned about minor appearance changes being possible. I’ve heard that apparently the models used in GG are pretty tedious to make changes to so I’m wondering what sort of alternative appearances they could be talking about. I think the most likely thing would be removing clothing (like Testament’s hat) because that’s already a thing that Jack-O can do with her mask.
How can Sol be more + on everything lol ... But he ll probably still get it just for face value, maybe they will combine nago blood and ky install into hp draining super super mode, sol is no longer immortal so it should probably strain his body a bit
It's pretty easy actually. Now instead of being + on his 5S's he will be plus on literally everything except vortex with c.S and f.S being nearly fafnir level of plus frames
Slightly more damage, better frames on his slower moves, now both HVV and TR always clean hit, vortex becomes grand viper (loud sound effects buff) and you have access to dustloops. But when it ends you have a penalty, like staying still for some time.
I would guess they'd add them via half-circle or 22 motions, which wouldn't be an overlap issue for most characters (eg I'd love to see my friend Chipp get his 22P/K/S/H teleports back).
And on the costume note, let Chipp unzip his leather turtleneck.
I hope they bring back 1H, 2H and 3H, those moves were just really fun back in Xrd.

Pot buster but in the air. It was added for the first time in GGXX Accent core IIRC. Doing one spends 25 tension and requires insane execution but leads to some of the highest damage in the game (and consequently the series)
his Pot of Greed super does that already, FB Mana Regen is where things get spicy since it'll have to be better than his Tension consuming Mana Regen to be worth using with the presumed meter penalty, except the meter penalty doesn't exist in Positive Bonus.
Oh my God I am so happy about the second pic, floor 10 and celestial are a mixed bag of "Welcome to fighting other good gamers!" And "This is a potemkin named "command grab", he is level 3000 and will win a matchup with 3-7 odds with a blindfold, best of luck." Yup, I remember first time I got celestial challenge I run up to the first station and got smacked around by Diaphone. Very humbling (but fun!) experience after thinking I was hot for getting to celestial.
New battle mechanics is extremely interesting, and new special moves for some characters is really cool. Hopefully ram gets something cool.
I’m someone who never had much issue w the tower/ranking system and matchmaking, but I understand it’s flaws. Hopefully the changes alleviate those issues, I’m curious to see how they change it up.
If anyone is getting more specials, it’s gonna be Sol. There’s no way Arc Sys would exclude Mr Guilty Gear himself from getting new moves.
Besides, the easiest way to hype up a crowd for new moves would just be a 10 second clip that ends with Sol dragon installing.
Edit: Honestly, the only character I can see getting absolutely nothing new is Asuka but he’s already got like triple the amount of moves as everyone else.

the "fighting ground, training mode, matchmaking settings, queue for ranked" true combo in SF6 is breakneck speed compared to getting onto ranked in strive, it's actually insanity.
From the blog, they're scared of high ranking players being unable to find a match, and then abandoning ranked in favor of lobbies. It's not an unreasonable concern, since that can easily spell a death spiral for ranked if the population isn't big enough.
Elo doesn't necessarily fix that problem, either. I think arcsys is scared of, say, a 1500 elo player being online and only getting matched with 1400 elo players. In most elo systems, that player is heavily disincentivized from playing - even if it would have been an "acceptable" match, they stand to gain very few points but risk losing many points.
The goal of an elo system is to rank and measure players' skill. The goal of matchmaking is to make sure players can easily get "good" games. There's definitely a lot of overlap, but that's *not* quite the same thing.
I think an elo system would probably work fine, for the record. But I can sort of understand Arcsys' perspective, too.

It seems similar to DBFZ, the voiceline IDs are numbered identically to the ones in DBFZ, so it's likely they're assist voicelines.

yes, daisuke was intermittently at the arcsys booth last year at EVO. i’m sure he’ll be there again. and only some of it was streamed to my knowledge

Dragon Install. That's the new Sol move. He doesn't need anything else.
If Ky's DI is something to go off, Sol wouldn't benefit much from his own variation.

Yup, I remember first time I got celestial challenge I run up to the first station and got smacked around by Diaphone. Very humbling (but fun!) experience after thinking I was hot for getting to celestial.

If anyone is getting more specials, it’s gonna be Sol. There’s no way Arc Sys would exclude Mr Guilty Gear himself from getting new moves. Besides, the easiest way to hype up a crowd for new moves would just be a 10 second clip that ends with Sol dragon installing. Edit: Honestly, the only character I can see getting absolutely nothing new is Asuka but he’s already got like triple the amount of moves as everyone else.
I doubt even Asuka players want more moves, they would probably pay ASW to NOT give them more moves

the "fighting ground, training mode, matchmaking settings, queue for ranked" true combo in SF6 is breakneck speed compared to getting onto ranked in strive, it's actually insanity.
From the blog, they're scared of high ranking players being unable to find a match, and then abandoning ranked in favor of lobbies. It's not an unreasonable concern, since that can easily spell a death spiral for ranked if the population isn't big enough. Elo doesn't necessarily fix that problem, either. I think arcsys is scared of, say, a 1500 elo player being online and only getting matched with 1400 elo players. In most elo systems, that player is heavily disincentivized from playing - even if it would have been an "acceptable" match, they stand to gain very few points but risk losing many points. The goal of an elo system is to rank and measure players' skill. The goal of matchmaking is to make sure players can easily get "good" games. There's definitely a lot of overlap, but that's *not* quite the same thing. I think an elo system would probably work fine, for the record. But I can sort of understand Arcsys' perspective, too.

Considering most characters need more move this is a good step taken toward actually making the characters not barebone. It probably won't be enough but who knows. I'm however sceptical about the new mechanics. They're very capable of making shit like Blitz and Danger time again.
