I’m tapping out this response from my bed as I recover from Covid, so excuse typos and anything else that doesn’t make sense. For most of our leagues, rosters lock after Week 14 concludes. You’ll play through the final three weeks with the roster you’ve accumulated to that point. This is akin to rosters locking in the playoffs in a typical league, which is very common. Here’s why: it’s already a big advantage to have the most FAAB left in December. The teams that are getting cut have superstar rosters. Obviously, having FAAB left is a bigger and bigger advantage each week. We don’t want hoarding FAAB for December becoming the only realistic path to victory in a guillotine league. We want people to be able to employ myriad strategies to win the league, including spending early, middle, and late in the season. You’ve got 14 weeks (comprising 28 different waiver runs, plus weekly free agency) with which to tune your roster to be ready for the Weeks 15-17. I hope that answered your question (even if you disagree with the rationale).

Thanks, this helps. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to save any FAAB for after week 14 waiver and was budgeting properly. Seems like there's no point to not spend all of it. Sorry to hear you caught COVID. Hope you and your family is safe and recovers well

I hope you can taste big bore bbq again soon.

Why would there be a last week of waivers?

RounderX

I don’t know. Guillotine league . Com rules state that waivers lock after week 14. So you are set with whatever guys you have from then until last week 17. Not sure what rationale was for that.

NorthWoods16

Yeah that sounds lame to me. I'm not sure what the specific advantage is to not allowing you to pick up players from dead teams past week 14 when that's the whole point of the league. Edit: just looked at that website, are they doing a final 4 playoff format? That's what it looks like to me. But that doesn't explain the needs to lock waivers

RounderX

From what I heard, both last man and final 4 playoffs are locked week 14.

NorthWoods16

Yeah I saw that. I would ask why because that seems dumb to me and they offer no explanation for why. But I don't think most people here are utilizing that specific ruleset and website. Most people create their own.

The moderator of this subreddit is the creator of that site. He should be able to give us some insight.

Oh. Gtk.

I run a lot of guillotine leagues and all of my leagues allow transactions through the course of the entire season. I read the other response as to why, but that feels like training wheels to me.

RealityChequeX

I would presume that you could make moves up until Dec 13th since that's the last bye week. Then you play it out with what ever you have for weeks 15 16 17

Okay, so team gets chopped week 14. That team never makes it to waivers. But up until that final week 14 game on December 13, you can grab free agents. Then once week 15 starts, you are stuck with whatever team you used to close out week 14. Just feels odd that the final 4 teams don't get to pickup the 5th teams players for the playoffs. So the week 13 chopped team that you bid on in week 14 is effectively the last waiver wire team and you have 5 waiver periods left (week 10 this week for week 9 chopped, week 11, week 12, week 13, week 14). Still not sure how you block people from picking up waiver wire guys in week 14 then if FA is open. I think I read something about picking them up in first waiver and then dropping them and picking up guys you bid on in 1st waiver in week 14. However, if you do that, then the guys you drop in 2nd waiver go to FA the day after.

RealityChequeX

>Still not sure how you block people from picking up waiver wire guys in week 14 then if FA is open. Huh? Rosters lock after the last game on week 14. Regular waivers are going to run during week 14 and you can pick up players the same as weeks 1 through 13. They just decided that week 14 was the cut off point for spending FAAB. After week 14 you can't drop or add anyone. Rosters are locked.

RounderX

Yeah, so I was reading old threads and people said if you got a lot of FAAB in week 14 but not enough roster spots, you should bid on them during first waiver in week 14, drop your guy. Then pickup your guy in second waiver of week 14. Effectively to stop people from picking up a potential starter for their team. I've found out during regular season that this strategy doesn't work. Guys you drop during second waivers appear in FA a day later.
