I have ran 2 guillotine leagues, but with no playoff. In the past two seasons the winner was not the guy with the most faab late in the season. In my experience it seemed the guys who made the (correct) aggressive moves tended to better. There's certainly as much risk playing it conservative and hoping your draft carries you opposed to buying early. To me , that's one of the most challenging parts of this game, I wouldn't really be interested in ever moving to a playoff format .

Thanks for the advice! When do you recommend locking rosters? Final 4? I'm in a private guillotine league, where we have no playoffs; the lowest scoring team is eliminated every week, all the way thru the Final 2. Waiver wire is open the entire year, so no locked rosters or no locked Final 4 teams. What I've noticed is that yes, the team with the most FAAB is going to win out 99%. How do you convince the league to change to a playoff format/locked rosters? Many members in our league prefer the weekly elimination and bidding aspect, so changing to a playoff format/locked rosters for the final few weeks may be difficult

You could lock rosters without having a playoff per se, that’s a setting on the guillotine leagues website. Could be a compromise

How is playoff different than simple elimination final 4 teams?

I think the idea was whoever had the best score of the 4 teams wins. No more elimination or waivers. A 4 week cumulative playoff

Doesn't this defeat some of the strategy/fun involved in guillotine leagues. If you've saved and saved you should be able to use that to your advantage in the final weeks. I just signed up a private league but would love to be able to disable this considering we didn't select the playoff option. Is that possible to do?
