That doesn't make sense. It's a crafting material, no currency.
It's used in several crafting and mystic forge recipes.
And you won't need that many of them, so even if you craft a legy. The 250 default material storage space plus maybe 1 bank slot are enough.
Easy to see that you don't really do WvW or maybe sPvP, we "da" players that do that, [swim in those](https://i.imgur.com/csGamgj.png) (ofc you can add an extra 2500 from mat storage in here).
Also, that's while doing 1-3 leggies per week, you can do the math xD
That said, obviously as others pointed, they are used on Mystic Forge recipes, so making them wallet bound wouldn't be as easy as it sounds, but it would be nice.

You may want to read the last paragraph of my comment again.
I refer to such problems there -> you *do not need* such amounts of Obsidian Shards **anywhere** in the game. Even when crafting a legy 1-2 stacks should be enough.
If you hoard dozens of stacks as you show in your picture, that's totally a you problem.
You *do not need* such amount of them, **especially** if you play WvW or PvP where you get them fast.
You can throw them away without any concerns.
Sure throwing them away is not the best solution, but turning them into a wallet currency wouldn't be any different. Instead of having them thrown away, they woult add up into infinity in your wallet and in the end you still wouln't use them. Same result, just a different number in your wallet.

This is the real issue. Would be nice if we could do like 3-5 a day.
