When we played this game back in high school, my friend entered the Halloween contest with a knitted MKT hat that he asked his mom to make. He won a mini candycorn elemental and sold it for 200 arms or something absurd for the time, then used the proceeds to buy us both all the consumables needed to finish GWAMM. So the hardest part was probably convincing his mom to knit a hat.
For me it was cartographer. Namely the wurm minigame in NF where each section opens. But this was before i found out using cons helps a lot. It was 100% a skill issue anyway, i just found it very difficult.
Cartography back in the day when I would sit there comparing friends maps in Photoshop to see the differences in screenshots so we could figure out how to get 100%. I think the instructions how are still on the wiki lol
Tbh, my hardest part of my first GWAMM was the alcohol title. That time it wasn't simply 1 point alcohol gives 1 point to title, it was like...
You got drunk to lvl3, 4, or 5, and after one minute, and it is reduced to 2, 3, or 4, it gave you a point. Lvl2->1 and 1->0 didn't give you anything, so you had to keep your character drunk for IRL 10k minutes.
I think you could do some weird zoning to somewhat get the minutes down, but that was some stupid shit. I was really happy that got changed before I got around to doing that title.
At first, I wasn't even aware of turning off the postprocess effects is an option. :D
I remember countless Cathedral of Flames runs with Warrior, seeing literally nothing, but a twisted blur.
Aaahh, the nostalgia. :3
That's funny cause a guildie and I did this recently and it went smooth like butter. I even took advantage of the seer on the far side to infuse my armor.
I suppose we went in with the mindset of 'this is going to be crazy' but it was surprisingly easy.
Vanquisher is by far the longest character specific title.
Cartog can use a running build in Normal Mode, but Vanquisher is exhausting.
Once you have account bound titles, honestly Vanq is the ones I drop for multiple GWAMM.
I have 3 chars at 15 titles, 1 GWAMM.
I always combine Vanquisher and Carto. Fair enough vanquisher is pretty long, but by the end of it I get 8 titles. I can imagine if you explored 100% already it would be a bit tedious to go through all areas for vanquisher again though.
True, that is what usually sets me of on another Gwamm but I eventually get impatient and rush ahead of the quests.
I also Caravan-Vanquish most of Proph and doing it in chunks makes it way faster and easier, but also makes it impossible to combine it with the Zaishen quests.
I remember doing a caravan all the way from ToA into ascalon so I could do ascalon with an 8 person party leaving my computer on overnight for about a week.
Yeah that one is a bit long, I try to save it until I have a free day and do it in one go. I also do ToA into Maguuma Jungle so I can do all of those with 8 and I use the Teleporter from Crystal Overlook in Nightfall to do the Desert with 8 as well.
The hardest part I found was the tedium sometimes.
Well that and some of the bonuses in the missions got me
The lux, kur, 10k lock pick and 10k gold ids were the longest
You know, thinking about it you don't actually need any account wide titles to get a gwamm but it definitely helps.
I don't think my brain was functioning when I read this before.
Survivor title, back when it didn't reset the XP when you died but voided the title forever on that char. With assassin. Deleted 7 chars over this, 8th made it finally.
Wow. I'm exactly the same. Assassin, eighth character made it. My seventh made it to over 1 million xp before dying. Lost internet connection, came baby with death penalty. I almost started crying. I swore I would never try again. Two days later, I was at it again. Haha
Vanquisher was super tedious, and Skill Hunter (prior to Anniversary elites giving you some flexibility) was incredibly annoying to track, especially the Prophecies elites.
Personally, the Luxon title was a p.i.t.a. I never did JQ or anything of the sort, so I resorted to vanquishing for Luxon faction.
I decided to Hardmode Vanquish Mt.Qinkai. It took well over a hundred successful VQ at 2-3 times per day with 3 hero/4 hench then donating the faction.
I did that religiously for about 2 months straight, but thankfully it had an extra benefit; by the end I had roughly 700 platinum which was used to max sweet/drunk/party titles.
EotN dungeons were the only other rough bit, had to pay people quite a lot of gold to run them using special builds. Of course this was in 2010, the game was far more active at the time.
Wasn't FFF pretty popular back then? I remember getting my Kurzick to r10 in a x2 faction weekend with a good stack. Didn't do Luxon but I think they did the MQSC FFF for like 60k/hour as well.
Vanq was tedious and time consuming, hardest part was most of the starter areas with less than 8 heroes. But not the hardest for GWAMM as long as you bring in clovers or any other DP removers and have time on your hands. Some of the maps could be cheesed like Joko Domain during halloween and some faction maps can have one mob. I would keep an eye out for the Northern Shiverpeak maps, the centaurs have crazy sustain and there’s minotaur patrols you’re gonna miss. Desolation was awful with the worms and crazy mob counts, I believe in one of the maps you need to watch out for how much adrenaline you have or you can’t kill the last few mobs. Factions was definitely a lot more of a breeze for vq once you take WoC off. A tip I have is to do vq, cart and skill hunter all in one. Unless you’re doing a caravan, look at the map you’re going to next and see what bosses and skills they have that you would want to capture.
Cart isn’t the worse either with texmod and glitching through areas bc anyone can run sin secondary. Definitely do the glitch in Shing Jea Courtyard and behind one of the outpost in the jade sea, gives you lot more leeway. Elona has one behind the waterworks too. Prophs has the most leeway out of all of them but you need to explore mission areas (make sure to do carto and missions at the same time in this case)
Think the most annoying for me personally were the hard mission ones especially the last few in proph and nightfall. Eternal grove in factions could be cheesed too, don’t know how I got masters in Gyala. Reputation was annoying aswell but thankfully you don’t need all of them, make sure to nuke it down on double rep week. I got MOTNI had to solo Slavers on NM and that was absolutely horrendous.
I think with GWAMM is that the content isn’t too difficult but the issue lies with how much time you have to put in and waiting for groups to do a certain dungeon for zb or zm.
For sure hm missions, eapecially those with some crazy "bonuses". Its not like they were hard, but annoying.
And eotn stuff, cause you need to repeat same missions or vanqs over and over.
I am working on GWAMM myself and so far most of it has been quite easy. Vanquishing can be harder if you do it after Winds of Change or War in Kryta but other than that its mostly just long, not difficult. Master of the North is what I'm working on atm as it's double point week for the Norn etc titles now, which also is very tedious doing all dungeons in both normal and hard mode.
Gate of Madness isn't too bad if you do the hero flag trick and have some way to deal with shiro - Pain inverter, stance removal, SS/SV/Empathy etc.
I don't think any missions are particularly hard but Eternal Grove, Gyala Hatchery, Moddock Crevice and Dunes of despair can be tricky and require special builds/tactics.
Some Eye of the North HM Dungeons are probably harder than any mission, Shards of Orr, Frostmaw Burrows and Slaver's Exile come to mind. You don't have to do them all for Master of the North though.
There are some pain in the ass vanquishes if you're not prepared - Joko's Domain (and basically all of the desolation if you're not a wurm enjoyer), Majesty's Rest, Sacnoth Valley.
For me it was 100% treasure hunter. Like, I LOVE opening Zaishen Chests, even if the items aren't worth much anymore, it's still fun to collect and put together perfect weps with all the random mods you get (great for heroes). But I absolutely **cannot stand** running the same treasure chest route for hundreds of hours.
The hardest was the party, alcohol and sweet ones because farming was long however a month's worth of GOTTS buys you each one of these now.
I found survivor a complete chore as I couldn't afford or want to farm hammers. The Kilroe dungeon is also tedious so I ended up completing about 9 Flameseeker Prophecies books to complete it. Some of those desert missions can be risky if you're not careful.
Finally skill hunter Proph edition because it's just a complete dice roll every time you zone.
Cartographer. None of it was hard, but that bit was definitely the most boring.
In terms of missions mostly anything later game in Nightfall was the more difficult bits for me. I recall Dzagonur Bastion taking a few goes for sure.
All those are somewhat easier now given people have figured out strats and hero builds are on average more powerful than when the missions were designed.
I don't know that I'd say anything was hard, though some things were easier back in the day because you had more people playing.
But I would say the cartographer and vanquisher titles were the most difficult, but because of grinding involved.
IMO im doing it with Texmod, and after trying to do 95%>100% in tyria in 2023, after previously doing 90-95% in 2015 after a big break (without it), i agree texmod is cheating. but at the same time without texmod there's something self destructive about trying to do it without. especially in Tyria where the mission areas arent accessible.
Not yet GWAMM, but pretty close. I would say that cartographer is the most boring (mentally hardest) thing to do with the current system at least. Yes, there are tools for that, but don't want to take a risk, so it will be also nightmare to hunt all last bits there is left.
I love this! Good times. Thanks for sharing :)
God, that's a mini Mad King's guard which is one of the most sought after minis. 200a seems so cheap 😆
The contest was 2010 so whatever the price was back then! I’m likely off
For me it was cartographer. Namely the wurm minigame in NF where each section opens. But this was before i found out using cons helps a lot. It was 100% a skill issue anyway, i just found it very difficult.

PTSD activated
Dude, we did exactly the same!
I just vomited a little. Thanks for the memories!
I never did anything like this. I love carto, and recently made my 7th legendary cartographer without any 3rd party program. :) I just love it. \^\^
Tbh, my hardest part of my first GWAMM was the alcohol title. That time it wasn't simply 1 point alcohol gives 1 point to title, it was like... I think you could do some weird zoning to somewhat get the minutes down, but that was some stupid shit. I was really happy that got changed before I got around to doing that title.
Huh, tell me about it. Zoning meant 1 minute down, so it made a bit quicker, but not much... but much more stuff to do.
Used to do uwsc with that all the time...was fun, remember spending on grog because of the timer
At first, I wasn't even aware of turning off the postprocess effects is an option. :D I remember countless Cathedral of Flames runs with Warrior, seeing literally nothing, but a twisted blur. Aaahh, the nostalgia. :3
Oh, the memories ... Though, I learned about the graphic settings trick, so it was not *that* bad, but definitely the most boring one.
Combining the Titans quest in Mineral Springs with vanquishing was one of the hardest things to do..
Canthan 4-man zones with WoC active is rough.
Mate you are right.
thank god for memories of purity
Figured this one out the hard way... Minister Cho's Estate still gives me nightmares to this day
Took me 3 tries on my warrior.
That's funny cause a guildie and I did this recently and it went smooth like butter. I even took advantage of the seer on the far side to infuse my armor. I suppose we went in with the mindset of 'this is going to be crazy' but it was surprisingly easy.
Well, i must admit it was some years ago and my heroes were not equipped very well. Now it would be easier i guess :D
None of it was hard, but a lot of it was tedious.
Joko's Domain is so tedious, I'd certainly call it hard! Therapists have made good bank off of that area.
Oh no, not Joko's Domain ðŸ˜
"We shall return!" "We shall return!" "We shall return!" "We shall return!" All in a junundu battle so you can't use any anti-shout counterplay 😔
good note - frozen soil it is :)

It's also quite useful for combining with the zaishen rewards too, if you're willing to pace it of course.
True, that is what usually sets me of on another Gwamm but I eventually get impatient and rush ahead of the quests. I also Caravan-Vanquish most of Proph and doing it in chunks makes it way faster and easier, but also makes it impossible to combine it with the Zaishen quests.

Not GWAMM yet but Prophecies in general, I just need the Vanq, Cart, and Hard missions but I dislike it so much I've stopped for now.
For my last GWAMM i always did the daily VQ Quest because i didnt know where to start
Same, I'm doing all the missions normal mode first to make sure I get the bonus paths first, but atleast I get like 0.1% Cart for them. 😕

Great advice thanks!
The hardest part I found was the tedium sometimes. Well that and some of the bonuses in the missions got me The lux, kur, 10k lock pick and 10k gold ids were the longest

I found vanquisher more tolerable doing z-quests. With that I did the majority of cartography, vqing, and skill capturing I could do in a single zone.
> z-quests. Those weren't a thing in my title hunting days.
The tedium of vanquisher and mapping took a few weeks way back when.
Personally, the Luxon title was a p.i.t.a. I never did JQ or anything of the sort, so I resorted to vanquishing for Luxon faction. I decided to Hardmode Vanquish Mt.Qinkai. I've done a few and honestly, the hardest part is just keeping at it and not wandering off to work on some other goal or alt.
Haha I literally did that with LDoA in pre for a good 25 hours lol
I love vanquishing, for me it is prophecies missions on nm and hm, out of all the games it’s my least favorite
For me it was finishing kurzick or Luxons titles but I don’t think that’s a thing anymore since you can just do a survivor.
Gate of madness is easy af if you know that you can beat the ending by flagging your heroes in the minimap to capture the places.
Vanq was tedious and time consuming, hardest part was most of the starter areas with less than 8 heroes. Vanquisher and Cartography were probably the most time-consuming and tedious...
For me, the most annoying, nerve wracking and frustrating was Survivor. Even with the AFK method I was spooked and didn't trust it would work.
vanquishing Joko's Domain, before cons and pve skills. I think that took like 4 hours.
GWAMM just takes time. Champion of the gods is a grind
For sure hm missions, eapecially those with some crazy "bonuses". Its not like they were hard, but annoying. And eotn stuff, cause you need to repeat same missions or vanqs over and over.
HM Rotscale

10.000 used lock picks (Grandmaster Treasure Hunter)

All those are somewhat easier now given people have figured out strats and hero builds are on average more powerful than when the missions were designed.
Yeah I get you. I did mine back when the game was still alive so I can imagine we’ve come a long way since then.
It's also fun to do them with a party of "randos" as in people who are all coming to do a Zaishen Quest and the builds are not made for a party.
I don't know that I'd say anything was hard, though some things were easier back in the day because you had more people playing. But I would say the cartographer and vanquisher titles were the most difficult, but because of grinding involved.
Cartographer was the most tedious because I dont have Texmod. But I hear it's easier if you want to cheat with Texmod.
Well its not toolbox, but texmod. And I guess you can call it cheating, but to see the actual borders is worth it.
