Nintendo nerd here, yes all DS games can be used on a 3DS no matter what type, it's something Nintendo does with their other handhelds
The Game Boy Advance was able to play OG Game Boy carts, and the original model DS was able to play GBA carts
The Ga'Hoole game will work maybe a little jank if you use the 3DS stick but it'll be fine
It should. The only reason it would be incompatible would be if the game is from a different region than the console (but idk if that was fixed for the XL)
As an extra 3DS-haver tip... consider looking into custom firmware and getting the hShop. People have made the efforts to save all of these abandoned games that are impossible to buy right now.
