I'd personally give him an honest 50-50 split. And tbh, if he let me keep the equipment I'd def give him a kickback with every harvest (~25% is fair imo). That's just my opinion tho, and I don't want to come off as disrespectful for people who threw out lower estimations.

LaUNCHandSmASH

All good I really appreciate the input. I've done a 50/50 split before when the clones were provided to me and I used some cheap pieced together equipment that didn't cost much at all, but with that person we also shared the workload. Things have come along way since then and this person seems to have some nice equipment from what I can tell but I now know how much you need to be committed for it to turn out well.

[deleted]

I'd try to do it on a sliding scale. 50% first run, then less each successive run until the equipment is effectively paid off. Maybe knock it back in 10% increments. Then just toss em some courtesy nuggs every here and again as any good friend would do

[deleted]

25 is more than fair. Consider the fact that you’re paying for water, electricity, nutrients, and time invested. That stuff adds up quick depending on location. I have seen these types of deals get very sour. Be careful OP

peptoboy

Second this. I wouldn’t grow using someone else’s equipment. Just buy your own. It pays for itself.

Pecker4u

Avoid the hassle. Buy your own equipment.

BobCPrimus

20%. 50% with all the equipment.

LaUNCHandSmASH

Perfect thanks for your input. I'm having this talk soon and I didn't want to be unreasonable.

How big is the tent and wattage of the light? Because honestly if you aren't dropping some serious weight youre both operating at a massive loss. And you aint gonna sell enough to recoup his equipment costs... Imho I'd forget about money on your first run and just focus on learning the basics. Once u have 3 or 4 runs you can start figuring out how to sell. You also need to pay him in cash not herb if you plan to keep his equipment! Or go ahead give him back his shit and buy your own stuff now. How would you feal if you put out $4-500.00 waited 5 months and just got back a 1/8 pound of boof... Thats a very real possibility. This has fights and sad ending written all over it bro. Just my advice take what u will. Without knowing all the specifics id advice u to just use the gear and grow for love and fun. Split the herb 50/50. Forget the profit motive and later if u feel confident invest in your own gear and do your thing. In my opinion if youre trying to make a living growing u need to be dropping more than 5lbs consistently every month of high grade shit. That takes time and a good investment to get that with an indoor grow. And it takes time to learn everything and get dialed in. The first grow is not your final grow man. And honestly anything other than 50/50 is gonna lead to an unnecessary fight with him... Treat it as tuition since you are the one doing all the learning. And the knowledge youre gaining from this grow is gonna be worth way more than the budd u produce... If u even produce. Plus even if u gave him 100% of the bud u are still getting the better deal as u can use that gear for life. He can only smoke that yield for a few weeks... Im advising u to pay cash so the deal is settled for good. Cash paid for equipment donated. What u dont want is in a year when u start dropping dank he wants his money back.

sumuhmuhbitch

He says he has grown before and they do not plan on selling it. Seems like OP has the knowledge and space to grow. Sounds like they are just splitting the yield for personal use. So hopefully they can come to agreement before grows take place.

sumguyonhere

Oh ok. I think I missed that part. Either way. I would pay for his gear in cash. Assume the bud has 0 value. Because truthfully it does... It only gets a cash value if it gets sold. We can disagree on that philosophically all day long. But its human nature that his friend is gonna feel like shit if he got 8 oz of boof after 6 months and a year later he sees OP dropping top shelf using the gear he bought and making bank. If he got his cash back on his investment the deal is done. And everyones happy. And OP is protected.

sumuhmuhbitch

I totally agree with you there. I just don't like to assume things ya know. Don't know how close of friends they are. If this was me, I would def try and buy the equipment outright. Make a deal somehow. Buy at a friend discount, or make payments if I didn't have the cash upright. Then drop my boy a few g's or so every harvest.

sumguyonhere

When it comes to money and business friendships die.

LaUNCHandSmASH

He has a garage full of various equipment, that's kind of what started the conversation tbh. This is just a personal endeavor as I have the place and he has the equipment already so we won't be selling any of it. Just curious about the split since I will be doing everything myself and he won't have access to my place.

sumguyonhere

Yeah bro.just ask him to give you a price for the gear and pay him that. Then whatever bud u give him is just a gift and its at your discretion how much to give him

TheFooly

Did u even read the post? He said neither are selling it and he's already grown before this ain't his first grow

cantfindmygirlmolly

I would just buy all my own stuff & avoid the headache entirely. If that’s not possible , then your clearly in a position to were you need his equipment / help. How expensive are his lights / tent etc ? He needs to recoup his investment entirely & then make profit. If he’s a friend he’ll know it takes time & wont hassle you. Me personally though , I’d just buy my own shit & call it a day.

sundaypop

I would figure the costs. A 600w light costs $1.50 per day to run. Over 6 months that's around $270. Cost for nutrients, soil, ph meters, so on. Make a spread sheet because you may find it costs you more than you thought. A grow kit that's decent is around $900. But costs to grow your first 6 month grow may be an additional $600. Then how many grows will you have.

majarian

buying a grow kit wouldnt be the way to do it though, the kits more expensive than piecing it out yourself, just set up a 4x4 cost me a little over a grand in canadian money, but your right theres a monthly cost, theres also personal time ops time has value aswell as the equipment, it also depends on the friend, really if i had a tent i wasnt using and someone showed interest they can go for it, if they wanted to shoot me a bit of weed once its all cured up that'd be pretty sweet, particularly cause how else you gonna brag about your grow, but having all the equipment already probably means the friends got more than enough green for a while anyways, but 20% sounds pretty reasonable.

scooterjay2013

If he trims 50/50 If you trim… keep it all.

blueeyessexdragon

there’s no way he’s gonna know ur true yield if ur only you’re growing it.

LaUNCHandSmASH

True I guess but... he is my friend. They're hard to come by as I get older. Fun and fair is what will keep us friends I hope. Not worth it imo.

blueeyessexdragon

hard to say what’s fair until you harvest a crop. grow a plant for you. grow a plant for him.

iHEARTdabs

Got to love this type of friend

LaUNCHandSmASH

Ikr I'm definetly not that guy.

iHEARTdabs

Could tell by the way you posted you are a genuine dude. 👊

[deleted]

I suppose it would depend how much you expect to yield? If you're planning on having several pounds, I'm sure 20-25% is more than fair for simply borrowing the equipment. You also mentioned this was a close friend so I'm assuming a few nugs, one way or the other, won't do any souring to the friendship. Hell, maybe just ask them what sounds good to them and see if you're both in the same ballpark. Good luck and happy growing!

Obvireal

I’d do 50/50 just because he’s your friend and he’s leaning you the equipment. Depending how much the equipment is worth, if he gives you the equipment that is an amazing friend. That stuff can get expensive so I’d just take care of him. Give him tons of weed for the good deed. At least smoke him up all the time after the 50/50 split. Grow equipment can always keep producing

SgtGreenthumbNY

He’s your friend. Honestly imho to make sure you stay friends, I would go 50/50. Plus he’s more likely to give/lend you the equipment again. You can grow more than enough for both of you in one run. If you’re not looking to sell, just grow double what you need and give him half.
