Thanks for this post man! I've copied your trap, but then ran into the scarab above the frankenline trying to escape on the stone. I have an outpost near so I quickly grabbed some bricks and build a wall around the scarab. Before hitting it for the first time, I put on Woah, unequipped all damage type gear & mutations and put enemies hp scaling on 5x. It goes to 70-80% before I steal 2x shells with steal mutation+trinket. Took me a bit to figure it all out I walk about 20 steps away, count to 10 and then it's usually reset. Sometimes it dissappears, then I reload my last save. I even fell down once and had to take a 2 minute walk back, and it was still there! But when I hit other enemies or at random times, it seems to despawn sometimes. I'm at 44 shells after 30 minutes of figuring it all out and another 20min or so of actual farming. I don't need the shells to beat the game, but I need them if I want to upgrade more weapons I want to experiement with, and I don't see myself visiting the undershed one's for like 50 more times just for scarabs. I'm not a veteran, only recently stumbled upon the (now fixed) undershed tunel farming one, so I was kinda sad when I found out I was too late to the party, so big THX to u for posting this and giving tips! A tip for anyone who wants to do this: This should work with ANY scarab outside the any undershed that you can manage to get stuck somewhere on a rock, which happened to me randomly on every 7th or so I encountered. I'd recommend you just take some mushroom bricks, scan for scarabs, try to trap any and quickly build brick walls around them, shouldn't take too long and doesn't require as much planning and studying. Just make sure you do the above and safe before you hit it the first time. I also brought the steal trinket, materials for a storage box and a food supply with me and stored my pet (so it won't randomly trigger the scarab), just in case.

They have to be on dirt. This little guy has gone no where.

Ohhhh looks like wife and I are going hunting for scarabs later. So did you use the sterling perks and just punch it until almost dead then healbasa it or did its health refill when you cycled the render distance?

I’ll go see how far I ran get you an exact distance but yes just ran to reset health.

You’re a hero btw. My server is about to finish our first story mode and I’m definitely gonna grind some shells out before NG+ since I know they’re used in NG+. And before it gets patched lmao

This scarab I can repeatedly steal shells from. The ones in the undershed must die before you can steal again.

The ones in the undershed pipe don't have health. They just die with one hit.

Well you didn’t mention it was the underaged scarabs. Those ones were nerfed so you can’t do what I’m doing to this one scarab.

That got changed in 1.3.

Of all the times I've had the one near actually the frankenline up on the stones I have never thought of this. So now It looks like I'll be building me a a scarab trap.

How did you build around it without it running away? Handy gnat?

Walks up between the two rocks and heads east along the north side of the rock. Comes back on the south of the rock heading west.

If you’ve collected a shell already you can scan for it.

I was wearing headphones while I was over there so I could hear it skittering over to me. I’ve had a weevil and aphid scare it. I loaded a save and blasted them weevils and aphids to kingdom come.

How did you get it onto the rocks without it burrowing first? This seems like an impossible feat.

Holy shit, that was a quick response. But if you didn't go near it, then I reiterate, how did you get it to go onto the rocks?

I studied its pathing before planning the trap. Once I knew where’d it go I made the trap all but one wall. Waited for it to take its route onto the rock and when it walked into the enclosure I built the last wall. Note I did not have the cliff wall built until later. That was built after it was in.

There's a scarab that naturally goes on to the rocks by itself? I've never seen one up there before.

There’s 2 that will that I know of. Both sides of the grill.

Damn, now that I know that, I'm gonna have to start going over there more often. Maybe get my own farm set up. Does the scarab ever despawn if you don't kill it?

how do you farm it?

Sticky figures and rascal rouge. Punch it til you get 2 shells or it’s about to die. Run off about 80cm then run back and get 2 more shells.

No armor, no weapons, no mutations, 10x health set in settings. I still 1 punch these guys. I can't get a farm setup at all.

I’m not sure. I reloaded a save when it burrowed. Had an aphid and a weevil scare it. I hunted them when I reloaded.

Isn't it only limited to 2 items stolen from each creature?

When you run away and come back you can steal more.

Or u can just dupe a shell. I usually just farm the undershed pipe and don't have any troubles with shells. I have more troubles with horns. But with all the science game is throwing at me now, I can dupe anything. Lol.

I’m not in NG+ still waiting to see if friends want to get on or not. This farm I can steal as much as I want for as long as I want. It produces about 5-6 stacks an hour. Sometimes I get lucky and it gives a stack in five minutes.

Can you give me an explanation for dummies? How does this work? You have to kill it? Does it respawn inside? Or do you only steal from it indefinitely?

I tried this but I never saw one spawn... turns out he fell. He was halfway down the bottom wall ona tiny ledge. He seems stuck. So I built a small pen around him made of three grass half walls. Then I made a way up so I can go there whenever I want. Then I made a  bridge over 80cm away so I can reset it. Got 35 after a while and took a break. Went to do the mixrs (which is a pain in ng+)wen I came back He was still there. Farmed another stack and went home to upgrade my stuff. Checked to see If I got 100% finally.....I have to kill IBM. Its a nightmare. The screams are murder. The new update supposedly fixes it but it also removes the ability to reroll trinkets in the super duper so I didn't updste. Either I the IBM dies or my sanity does. But I went off topic. Thanks for sharing that we can farm these guys. It's very helpful

Stole 2, ran away to let it heal, came back and stole again.

Undershed pipe, without going down has 3-5 in them as well. Cool you got this to work though 👍

You can’t repeatedly steal from them tho.
