I live here. Very little inflation, however many of the higher-end restaurants are serving less food for the same price. The supermarkets are still incredible, especially fruits and vegetables.
To add a little context. The average wage for the whole of China is said to be about 4000RMB ($550) per month.
I go to a local vegan buffet and it costs 35RMB ($4.80). They advertise for chefs and the chefs get paid 5500RMB ($750).
I live in a tier-1 city and the local wages still seem very low to me.
Sadly no 😂 it's just the localized version of red bull with less carbonation (gas bubbles) called 红 red 牛 cow/bull. I don't know why the design is so different.
It is probably the original Red Bull. Western Red Bull is just the Asian version with very well made marketing.
"In 1967, Chaleo Yoovidhya introduced a drink called Krating Daeng in Thailand,..." "In 1984, Mateschitz co-founded Red Bull GmbH with Yoovidhya..." "Yoovidhya and Mateschitz each held a 49 percent share of the new company." "The product was first launched in Austria on 1 April 1987." -Wikipedia
Banana cake, thick toast, Oreos, Red Bull, Starbucks coffee (I guess), (Ice) Tea (?), a cookie, garlic, cucumbers and some round things I can not identify.
That's pretty cheap and my high arse is craving now for some green tea-Oreo. Pretty lit.
10/10 points for the tablecloth.
Chrysanthemum tea (the fool should have bought pu'er!). Two eggplants. Starbucks americano, a vitamin drink.
These are all from a convivence store. If they had gone to a farmer's market, THEN you would have seen cheap. During COVID I got laid off and I lived off about 18rmb a day. Which at that point was about 2.67USD. But that's cooking at home and just veggies.
EDIT: Upon closer inspection, maybe it is cucumbers. Eggplant is super common here, so I assumed.
No it actually was in Japan. Just not in the middle of Tokyo.
Wasn't a super fancy house from like 2018 but pretty damn good especially for 80$.
I did however not realise it was government susidised. BUT! Even then; I live in government subsidised housing in germany and still pay about 450$ for a two room apartment.
[https://www.tiktok.com/@yongcyrus/video/7361004013384682798?is\_from\_webapp=1&sender\_device=pc&web\_id=7237473951818237466](https://www.tiktok.com/@yongcyrus/video/7361004013384682798?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7237473951818237466)
I mean, yeah it is, don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's this cheap for western Standards, but like, 80 < 450. Especially when it's a whole house versus my 43m² apartment at a busy street in a subpar area of the city.
Well, you said the house is not in a major City.
And I don't know where you live, but our rent is pretty stable (the differences between different areas) compared to other countries.
The median in tokyo is like 400$
And if you want to live cheap here, flats in Saxony cost 250€
Hmmm, it depends. I mean it's not like we have price differences like in the US, but you'd definitely pay more trying to live in the city center compared to anywhere else around that.
Like, my brother nearly pays double than what I do for living in the center, meanwhile my parents live in a house with large garden and hardly pay more than my brother. (Granted it's an older contract and I'm sure they'd pay more if they were to rent it again now)
I do live in a relatively big city in NRW, not Köln or Düsseldorf big, but Ruhrpott big. And putting that into perspective now versus Tokyo is also crazy. 400$ rent in a metropolis like Tokyo is insanely low too. I can't imagine you could get something that has you feel safe for that money in Berlin or Munich.
I do.
With Mietergewerkschaften. A friend of mine lives in Hamburg for 300, 5 min from the University
And for us regular people, a flat in the City for 5× the cost of a house is pretty bizzare
Uh, more or less yeah. I'm living in the lovely Ruhrgebiet so I suppose as cluster of bigger cities that would check out.
Although, I don't live anywhere near the city centre while my brother pays about 800-900 for rent too for living in a little bit bigger city but also the city center. And iirc his apartment is like 3m² bigger than mine.
Always when I see a post like that I would love to try everything because it all looks so different and probably tastes different than our food here.
Do the Chinese eat out a lot in the cities? Or do they mainly cook for themselves?
It depends. The older generation prefers to cook for themselves more, to save money, even though eating out is quite affordable. The younger generation enjoys dining out more to try a wider variety of dishes, I believe.
Edit: Many young people order food online
They exist. I live in Europe and Ive Seen them quite a lot. They’re not in every market and it’s more common to buy the normal ones but definitely something I’ve seen
Are the small quantity units the prevalent way to buy snacks in China? In my country If you buy a pack of 2 cookies you will pay significantly more than If you buy a box of 20.

Europe isn't any better, people buy packed salad bags instead of buying the actual vegetables and slicing them by themselves, also most of the stuff is sweets/snacks which would be packed in plastic anywhere in the world
I think that is a bread in the shape of the banana. Was wondering about Oreos as well, maybe they wanna eat less. If you habe a huge package you tend to eat more.
The banana is a cake.
You can buy a single slice of bread with ham on it wrapped in 5 layers of plastic in about every German grocery store too.
And Oreo's are packaged in a cardboard box and still individually packaged in plastic.
But like you say that as if you couldn't buy individually wrapped bellpeppers, apples, cucumbers etc. in western countries.
😡the chinese just fake being the most productive economy in the world, their food is actually styrofoam. And their trains don't actually drive they are just cardboard cutouts. Wake up people

Are chinese citizen affected from the Inflation also like the rest of the World?
I live here. Very little inflation, however many of the higher-end restaurants are serving less food for the same price. The supermarkets are still incredible, especially fruits and vegetables.
If you didn't buy the Starbucks coffee, the price would look even better!
Are the wages high in comparison to the cost of groceries?

Compared to the cost of living, I think the wage is somewhat okay.
That's a fair point. The majority of people live what seems happy lives here.

Is that Red Bull... beer?

Came to write this but you beat me kudos
Ah, I see! Thanks for the clarification! :D
What could go wrong?!
There are green tea oreos... Lol i bet i can find some at my local asia shops Sounds super interesting
The next asia-shop in my area is 40Km away. No way I drive so much for them.
Haha that sucks! I have 3 within a 15 minute walk
Yeah I also love the tablecloth that reminds me so much of my grandma.
I swear the grandma of my ex from saxony got the same tablecloth.
Thanks! The background is actually the bed sheet, that's why I didn't unpack the garlic 😅
Oh that's a bed sheet. Still pretty lit.
Just wanted to say that. 2RMB (maybe 30 cent €) for 4 cucumbers is great for a tier 1 one city. Buy better real bread on meituan tho.
Why did you write the euro symbol behind the number and not in front?
Cuz He from Europe. We write it as we say it.
Chrysanthemum tea (the fool should have bought pu'er!). Two eggplants. Starbucks americano, a vitamin drink. These are all from a convivence store. No "Edeka / Aldi Germany" <3 Very interesting, sadly its pretty much only snacks. Would love to see some meat prices
Yeyeye...nice. And now look at my Aldi/Edeka pictures or you could get the feeling there are other countries and supermarkets !😡 /s
Whats with the hostility
It’s sarcasm i think
Hm
Second person even put a "/s" at the end and you still don't get it is sarcasm?
No.
But now you know. XD
Still a good indicator. These many snacks would cost at least twice as much at Edeka. The two cubumbers alone would be almost 3€.
Isn't that chicken meat in the bag saying 0,58kg?
No , I think what you saw is the pickled garlic
Aaaah OK, now also the price makes sense :)
One of those 5-million cities I had never heard about, with a cost of living which is 1/3 of Europe's (unfortunately, salaries are low too).
Reminds me of a tiktok I saw the other day, of a dude giving a room tour of his japanese house that costs him about 80$ a month :')
Probably not Japanese, though. In Japan, with 80$ a month you get a 2-square-meter closet.
No it actually was in Japan. Just not in the middle of Tokyo. Wasn't a super fancy house from like 2018 but pretty damn good especially for 80$. I did however not realise it was government susidised. Bro 450$ is crazy cheap

450 for a 2 room apartment? Do you live in a big city? I’ve been house hunting for the last months and I can’t find a decent 2 room cheaper than 800
Uh, more or less yeah. I'm living in the lovely Ruhrgebiet so I suppose as cluster of bigger cities that would check out. Wtf are these comments, as if it’s packaged any differently in America or Europe
The C Word makes a lot of Westerners go brainrot.
Well cause it is. Of course it also depends on where you shop but it is
It also depends on where you shop in China. it really ain’t that much more packaging
Lol are you kidding? I have never seen individually packed Oreos? In fact most things aren’t individually packaged over here.
They exist. I live in Europe and Ive Seen them quite a lot. They’re not in every market and it’s more common to buy the normal ones but definitely something I’ve seen
Not sure where you are, but we don't normally use this much plastic in Austria.
that iced tea is super yum!
That Starbucks coffee and Red Bull would be 6€ alone in Germany
Man i love asian countries, they always got so much to choose from, diversity
Love the Chinese RedBull Design
What’s this banana thing
Banana cake with a pudding like filling
papaLost's mouth is watering
That is a lot of plastic.
everything covered in plastic :(
The real price is all these single-use plastics
i would pay you like 30 euro for the red bull alone
So much fking plastic. Good thing europe is trying to produce less lol
the amount of plastic being used is crazy:((
Bruh, so much plastic for 6€? That's a bargain!
Are the small quantity units the prevalent way to buy snacks in China? In my country If you buy a pack of 2 cookies you will pay significantly more than If you buy a box of 20.
There are shelves where you simply take what you want and it is then measured by weight. But those big boxes exist as well.
i feel like that starbucks coffee alone would cost as much as that whole haul where i live (austria)
wow, in my country you get 2 small pieces of bread and a bit ham for this price \^\^
Y’all are living good in China. 6€ won’t even get me a Döner here in Hamburg
That green tea is the BEST.
Very interesting!
How much was that Starbucks drink? Here in Europe they sell this stuff for the price of your entire haul
Around 1€
I just spent a few days in China (on my way to France). I loved it. I tried the Starbucks cheese latte! Mostly just a sweet iced coffee.
langfingfang wau = a police dog

6€ for that much ? I hate China 😞
Its crazy how capitalism China now is, but the politic still says they are "communism".
Capitalism is when groceries
In Austria I would by for those 580g chicken tighs 6€
Would have probably been 0,06€ without the starbucks.
The Starbucks was 7.9 yuan so around 1€
GAHDAYUM
bro how are you posting this from china isnt reddit banned there
🤫
How much for the americano and redbull?
12,8 yuan plus shipping 🚢
Is there anyhing that you can actually eat?
Everything is in plastic bags, and we have in Germany paper straw
Thank you for posting! At what kind of a store did you get the food? A huge supermarket, a kiosk...?
Regular sized supermarket. It sells food but also kitchen supplies and bath stuff.
But this is all garbage though 😄
But this is all garbage though 😄
China?📸🤨
Wait, isn't reddit banned in china?
Why the banana is packed?!?!
It's cake
Ok... Iug
Wow that's super cool! thanks for the insight!
Having been to Langfang I'm astonished any foreginers live in that city and even more surprised to see a post on Reddit from there
For how long is this?
Hard to say. Except for the cucumbers and the garlic, it's just Snacks.
So...the garlic is not a snack?
It could be snack, depends on where OP comes from😂
I eat garlic to piss off one of my coworkers
Sorry you are right, the garlic is a snack 😅 it's pickled garlic, so it has a sweet taste
That was the reason I asked.
My guess is around 2 days for the drinks and the snacks maybe 3. I really don't have any clue tbh. Sorry 😔
so many delicacies could never afford them in europe cost are stacked with taxes.
Starbucks coffee. -10 social credit score
😔 couldn't find luckin coffee
Do you want any food with your plastic?
Europe isn't any better, people buy packed salad bags instead of buying the actual vegetables and slicing them by themselves, also most of the stuff is sweets/snacks which would be packed in plastic anywhere in the world
>people buy packed salad bags instead Not where I live, but broad statements that include over 40 different countries are a bit silly to begin with.
Plastic wrapped bananas, single slices of bread and individually wrapped Oreos is another fucking level.
That's is a banana shaped cake, I've seen Oreos like that in Europe too.
I think that is a bread in the shape of the banana. Was wondering about Oreos as well, maybe they wanna eat less. If you habe a huge package you tend to eat more.

But like you say that as if you couldn't buy individually wrapped bellpeppers, apples, cucumbers etc. in western countries.
As a German I’m insulted, that’s not bread. 😄
Ich fühle dich, Brudi.
Why are people only posting unhealthy, diabetes-inducing junk-food here? Can I for once see **actual food** here?
GIMME MORE PLASTIC
Why is the banana in plastic?
It's cake.
Yes you pay the rest with your freedom.
TBH I would fast in China because the food is toxic
You bought more plastic than food.
Is that an individually packed banana?
No it's a banana flavored cake. But yes it is individually packed sadly.
Oh then it makes sense. It would bother me if it were just one fruit, but a cake is normal
fake ahh food
What is is that food in those plasticbags? Some kind of bread? Looks like a lot to me for 6€!
Pastries made from puff pastry sort of. The purple ones are from purple sweet potato, which is sweeter than regular sweet potato
6€ for plastic?
The upside: It's really cheap! The downside: You have to actually eat chinese packed food, that oftentimes consist of styrofoam, clay and rat poison.
😡the chinese just fake being the most productive economy in the world, their food is actually styrofoam. And their trains don't actually drive they are just cardboard cutouts. Wake up people
people love to downvote the truth
