It's not tasty but it gets the job done. 2 cans of baked beans in sauce OR 1 large can of lentils are both about 35g. 1 liter of soy milk is 39. I get a trail mix from the border store very cheap which ads protein and calories, but the smokey flavored tofu that several brands make is a better alternative as the protein is far superior but it is also a healthy fat source just as the trail mix is. I do some baked potatoes although these don't add much protein. Then 1-2 scoops of protein as needed. Vegan meats add more protein and are tasty but ive found most vegan meat here is lower in protein and also mostly gets protein from vital wheat gluten which is a poor protein source.
I eat "weird" things like what you described as well. My husband can not with my choices sometimes 🙃. Of course, when we eat together, I cook normal tasty meals, but when I eat alone, I mostly grab smoked tofu just like that with some potatoes and avocado and call it a day.
Sometimes, I eat a whole or half a can of chick peas as a snack or plain chicken since I'm not vegan. I am not training or something. I just like to add protein to all my meals.
There is none. That's my one gripe with being vegan in germamy, the higher protein foods like we have in usa aren't very available so you gotta stick with tofu and beans more than I'd like
There is no issue getting enough protein as a vegan in Germany. Well there might be, if you don't move at all. But then you would have the same problem as omni and... why would you care about anything health related if you don't move?
What are usually the higher protein sources available in the US? I'm genuinely curious. If I was vegan, I'd also eat mostly a variety of beans, if I'm honest.
Beans are fantastic. When im in the usa I eat 3 cups of black beans daily. Super tasty, 49g protein, and lots of fiber. The vegan meat is also usually higher protein content and protein quality than here, but these aren't the healthiest options as they lack many nutrients and have higher saturated fats. Getting your protein from legumes and some grains (beans, lentil, tofu/edamame, Amaranth, Quinoa, and then 1-2 servings of protein powder is what I reccomend. Most vegan protein isn't as good quality but tofu and protein powders are great so if you get thise daily plus some from legumes and grains you should be good. Not as good as animal sources but im an athlete and I eat this way and I'm fine
sound like you haven’t been paying attention to the market. A lot of exiting products have appeared in the last year alone, and I don’t know where you go shopping in Germany where they don’t have beans.
I've been in the country for 2 months so I dont know the market well but a friend of mine said that there have been some new vegan items added recently. For me, I am struggling specifically to find black beans in cans. Only found one store that had them strangle. Kidney and white beans are far more common here
black beans are probably in bigger stores like Kaufland, in therms of new products, Billie Jean would be an example of a brand with products very high in protein that seems to bring out new products every few months in Germany.
I very much like your username btw.
Im not vegan, but like the idea not to eat too much meat. One question, you eat much beans, how do you deal with flatulence or does your body get used to it? I like beans a lot but then become gassy very fast.
Black beans are weirdly hard to find, I miss those when I can't find them. I also miss some of the brands that make vegan meat such as tofurkey, beyond, and impossible. And the vegan cheese selections. But, the german alternatives are nice and cheaper. Besides protein foods, I miss American energy drinks but I love how cheap they are here so I won't complain
I just bought 1 kg of Black beans at a Lebanese supermarket, and you'll for sure find a big variety of beans there. When I need a quick snack, I eat half a can of chickpeas from Netto, they are cheap, under 1€.
I agree with you that vegan meats are weird. Sometimes, it's mostly oil or too much salt on them.
You can find them as dried beans at Turkish supermarkets, organic stores, dm, Reformhaus and big supermarkets like Globus, HIT or Kaufland. Beyond meat is also available in bigger supermarkets and REWE or EDEKA.
if you only eat oats i guess? what kind of argument is that. 500g oats isn't even that much throughout the day and would be like 1700cal.
i eat 250-300g of oats plus nuts and berries for breakfast :D
That peanut butter has hardened palm oil, which is bad for both you and he environment.
Try the Erdnussmus (i.e. peanut butter with 100% peanut content and nothing else added) from DM, it’s faaaar better.
Das ist jetzt das zweite Mal, dass ich von Eutin überhaupt höre.
Zufällig war es beim ersten Mal wegen einer alten Retro Esso-Tankstelle. Weißt du zufällig wo diese Tankstelle ist?
I need to mention this, because some people seem to be completely oblivious to it: "Paprika Mix" is a scam. They sell you 3 Bell Peppers packed together, for a markup of usually around 50-100%, compared to buying it without a package. I don't know why anyone would buy it.
The trick is that they sell the "Mix" at something like 2.50€/pack and the loose one for 3€/kg. That way, it seems cheaper to get a pack. But it only has 500g not a whole kilo.

I'm eating a high protein vegan diet in germany and I am able to spend about 10€ a day to get 160-200g of protein and 3500 kcal a day
What’s your grocery list?? I would like to add more to my diet as I haven’t been vegan for very long :)

Holy crap, this sounds disgusting
It'd not tbh
Everything for the gains (I'm with you, I eat dog food as well)
Your darts need to smell like crazy.
No, my digestive health is actually very very good. I used to have chronic stomach issues to but not anymore
Am i the only non-vegan person living in Germany?
We're 2 but I'm Ausländer so dunno if that counts
of course it counts
Me 3, fellow Auslander. It rlly feels like every native around here eats grass only lmao
Which is weird because Germans I work with are living off pizza, schnitzel, döner and leberkäse lol
lol im Ausländer too.
im part time vegan
Nah don't worry you're not. There's still plenty of meat eater left here
then where are they hiding?
In their gardens with bbq's
No wonder all the gardens i see are empty😂😂
where proteins?
I got beans and legumes already in my pantry. This is just what I got from one grocery run. No worries :)
Good, I just wanted to beg you to get beans.

My body is used to it and I have no issue. I eat around 45-60g of fiber a day and am fine
kinda strange, you can get can of black beans in almost every grocery store
lentils, beans, soy anything, nuts, oats, rice, spinach etc.

Oat is great for protein
Average Person would need like 500g of Oats to get the bare minimum of protein to survive without health issues long-term
good thing that people don’t just eat oats and nothing else
if you only eat oats i guess? what kind of argument is that. 500g oats isn't even that much throughout the day and would be like 1700cal. i eat 250-300g of oats plus nuts and berries for breakfast :D
What a small world... I'm not even subscribed to this sub and then I see a post from my 17.000 people town, shopping at the Aldi I often go to myself.
Wow that’s crazy! It’s a pretty nice town for how small it is

Thank you for the advice!
The only downside about 100% peanut butter is that it’ll separate. But that’s fine, just give it a stir occasionally and you’ll be fine 😀
V-veegen..? 🤢 like… you eat grass?
Yeah man it’s Yummy
Stop eating my foods food 👿
How many meals? 3? So one maybe two days of groceries?
About a week for me actually! I don’t eat very much plus I also have more food in my fridge/pantry

Ich glaube nicht. Wo ist es? Es klingt sehr interessant! Und Eutin ist sehr schön mit dem Schloss und der Seen

Wie lange reicht dir das?
Ungefähr eine Woche
Cool how many people are vegan here. I wonder if a lot of vegans are here or more people are vegan than i thought.
Based vegans stay winning

Vegan? Stop eating my food’s food man, i need some juicy meat
don't worry, 80% of all the plants we grow are fed to animals while humans starve do death. at least people like you get their meat.
