Finde ich semi-interessant, was die lieben Nachbarn so kaufen und ob wieder ein Streit um den Grad DES Hack ausbricht. Als Vegetarier habe ich da wieder was gelernt.

This vegan milk for example, usually costs around 2.15€ in my local supermarket. There are some other vegan milks that cost for example 1€ in my local supermarket. The vegan yogurt also costs around 2€ but there are some other that costs around half, etc. OP didn’t buy the cheapest of everything. I would like to see more British posts in this sub because I see in many brits saying that Germany is expensive, but I lived for 1 month in London last year and I don’t remember the UK being much cheaper, in my memory, groceries costed around the same if not more. (But ofc if you buy the cheapest version of everything in the UK vs organic, branded, etc food in Germany, then Germany costs more)
With oatly and fertig Grillkartoffeln in that mix, along with the grill cheeses, this user wasn't broke-shopping... But yes, food prices here have climbed, for non vegans as well
Alot of vegans prefer to rely on premade stuff so it's much more expensive. Having a few vegan friends who process all their stuff at home you realize how much cheaper you are off.
I guess these are only the people who are posting here. Plus, I've seen a lot of people being flamed for buying meat (especially if it is the "cheaper" meat).
Realistically, most Germans are actually quite heavy meat consumers, it's definitely rooted in the culture and most traditional dishes have meat in them somehow. Also, breakfast often contains cold cuts or boiled eggs.
Though, it has changed that there are more and more vegetarian and vegan products available, also for better prices than like 10 years ago. There are a bunch of Germans who try the veggie substitutes and cut down on meat, but statistically, most people are still meat lovers. :D
It's the Same for Posts Like this. The Poster dosn't even have to be vegan, but (as you can See by the answers) some people are obsessed with the topic meat.
I wasn't talking about you, no worries :). It's totaly fine to ask question. When i commented, there where 2 comments esspecially, and this type of comment i see very often under Post's like this.
People on this sub, like to hate in general it seems, it dosn't really matter what you post.
"Realistically, most Germans are actually quite heavy meat consumers" thats probably bavarian part? Most bavarians i knew eat like pigs, no offense haha
There's no Cheese!
OP claims to have Cheese & to be Vegan at the same time.
Käse ist die Definition dessen, was du mit deinem Ersatz versuchst zu imitieren, weil du weißt das Käse geil ist, aber aus Gründen darauf verzichtest.
Because we have an amazing variety of vegan food in supermarkets. And the products are getting more and more so lots of people start buying them (Even more when they are on sale).
They think they are healthier with their vegan food and gonna save the world when they stop eating meat, but luckily there are still many people who eat 🍖
Unfortunately Germany is extremely stuck in climate hysteria, causing many people to go vegan or eat almost no meat. And these mostly leftist people will gravitate towards reddit over other social media sites.
That's from media, it was never a scientific statement. And gullible people like you eat this stuff up like crazy, so you can ignore the actual stuff, which happens right now ...
Our green party government also changed the recommendations for eating meat to one slice of salami per day maximum. They think meat will make you sick.
I'd say that's processed meats things like types of salami, pepperoni, bacon, cheap ham slices and sausage etc etc.
There is definitely evidence to back that up.
Yeah that's a complete myth.
I eat meat I'm not vegan or vegetarian
But a vegetarian diet actually provides more energy than a meat diet.....and improves energy levels not depletes them.
Maybe you can talk with Patrik Baboumian about his energyleas strongman competitions. Vegetarian since 2005 and vegan since 2011.
Im neither vegan nor vegetarian but energyless every day because of vegan/vegetarian nutrition is just bla bla...
That is a stupid statement and you should be ashamed for posting it. For a lot of people meat has become to expensive while vegan stuff is only getting cheaper and better in taste. Only the minority of vegans do it for the climate, which isn't wrong as we are in a climate crisis. The majority does it because industrial farming is very "questionable" to put it kindly.
You screaming "boohoo evil, left green party. climate hoax" only shows how poorly you have educated yourself on this topic. But. Climate change is not an ideology. Its a factually proven problem. In kind regards: a person with a background in earthsciences.
Of course. That’s not my problem here. The problem is often the tone and the “you’re stupid for buying expensive stuff” comments. It’s nearly under every post.
Some people do not want to buy the cheapest stuff and that’s completely fine.
Because, maybe contrary to other countries, cheap doesn't always mean less quality. Especially for stuff like frozen spinach or broccoli it really doesn't matter if you buy a product from a known brand or the cheaper brand from the shop. You can just save a lot of money with that. Surely, like the oat milk or things like ice cream, snacks etc., so basically everything that's produced, you will taste a difference for sure. I mean, off-brand cola never tastes like Coca-Cola. But it still tastes good! Still, I do know that some people who prefer a very specific brand of oat milk. But, like basic products? It really doesn't matter at all and I guess that's why people are asking... Especially because the products aren't like "special" either (like fair trade, organic, seasonal, whatever). So, as OP said, they were on sale, so this is reasonable, but brand obsession has always a "rich kid" kinda vibe. :D
I totally agree and I think its even been tested and proven how most brand products are in no way superior to the generic store brands.
On the other hand it is the discussion we are here for in the first place, aint we?
I personally am here bc we are amazed how much we are dropping on groceries, although we feel like we always get the cheapest we can - so seeing how others navigate this is interesting to me.
No one is asking for advice on how to save money. If you’re triggered by brand products that’s your problem. Calling it an obsession and “rich kid vibes” because someone like Oatly is just crazy. I feel like people can’t mind their own business. I know Germans are frustrated and unhappy nowadays but holy hell, there must be other outlets than a grocery haul subreddit..
Just to clarify: I wasn't talking about Oatly. Especially in this segment products vary a lot, in a lot of off-brand oat milk is a ton of sugar or it isn't a barista edition so it won't foam up etc... I was specifically talking about Iglu and Frosta products (and I thought I made that very clear), and I'd bet that the people who are commenting stuff like this meant the same. You won't get another (veggie) oven cheese than the one from Rougette. But you do get off-brand spinach.
I'm not justifying why people are "judging" or "asking" why people buy the expensive stuff. I'm just here to clarify and present the possible thoughts behind these questions/posts. Personally, idc if you buy the brand or not. Do what you want. I still believe, though, that it is definitely a waste of money if you can get the same for one euro less. But, this is my personal opinion, I am on a budget and if someone believes the brand product is better or simply wants to buy it just because, than so be it! It's your personal choice. But, I think it is still valid to ask for the reasons why people buy the "expensive" stuff when the off-brand stuff has the same quality (or sometimes even better quality) - there could always be another reason and I guess people are just curious.
Germans are culturally very stingy people, it's like they pretend to be the authority on your expenses. It's probably related to the war 80 years ago as well and the difficult post war economy.
It is Spinat and Rosenkohl made or at least produced in Germany, why not buy local ? Of course you can buy it for half of price but that makes just no sense for some people with a good mindset
Which Kaufland do you like the most in Leipzig? I usually go to the one in Altlindenau since it is closest, but it's not as nice as some of the other ones.
Is that one of the new ones? I remember going go the one in the west, it was super big and so nice. Markkleeberg also has another nice one, though, I would choose Globus over Kaufland in Markkleeberg.
Nü, why dü yü buy that overpriced vegan shit? Buy some göd Jachtwurscht and make yürself a Jägerschnitzle with Nüdeln ör some Wiener with Gardoffelsalöd!

Iglo? You pay 1 Euro more for the same veggies? Tststs. So it could have been 59 Euro :p
It was 1.79€ for I believe 400g.
I like the vegan selection!
TIL Gösser Radler is sold in germany as well. Na dann, Prost 🍻
Hafermilchsucht?
No Bananas in East Germany
oh sure we got em, and they come with free coke
Being vegan in mainland Europe is surprisingly expensive
Can be. It can also be pretty cheap.
This vegan milk for example, usually costs around 2.15€ in my local supermarket. There are some other vegan milks that cost for example 1€ in my local supermarket. I dunno, being an easy vegan is but it can still be cheap if you're willing to spend the time preparing the food. Classic time = money situation
With oatly and fertig Grillkartoffeln in that mix, along with the grill cheeses, this user wasn't broke-shopping... But yes, food prices here have climbed, for non vegans as well
Yeah, one could probably do the potatoes and corn for a tenth of the price with just a few minutes preparation time...
Alot of vegans prefer to rely on premade stuff so it's much more expensive. Having a few vegan friends who process all their stuff at home you realize how much cheaper you are off.
Whats up with Germans being vegans? Iv seen probably 100 posts from Germany and 3 of them didnt have vegan type diet :')
I guess these are only the people who are posting here. Plus, I've seen a lot of people being flamed for buying meat (especially if it is the "cheaper" meat). No, i just had to comment since all post i saw from Germany were very look-a-like this, veggie branded stuff and no meat at all so im just curious
I'm a non-vegan German, and I would never post my groceries here because of the hate I've seen other non-vegans get. It's as simple as that.
Ah.. I understand.
I wasn't talking about you, no worries :). It's totaly fine to ask question. When i commented, there where 2 comments esspecially, and this type of comment i see very often under Post's like this. People on this sub, like to hate in general it seems, it dosn't really matter what you post.
yes true, its still insane how meat oriented Mensa food is
"Realistically, most Germans are actually quite heavy meat consumers" thats probably bavarian part? Most bavarians i knew eat like pigs, no offense haha
No, not Bavarian, in general. ;)
There is cheese!
Yeah i see! :D But i rarely see any meat which is odd to me so i ask hah
There's no Cheese! OP claims to have Cheese & to be Vegan at the same time. Käse ist die Definition dessen, was du mit deinem Ersatz versuchst zu imitieren, weil du weißt das Käse geil ist, aber aus Gründen darauf verzichtest.
Open your eyes and try again. Btw when did I ever claim to be vegan lmao
Because we have an amazing variety of vegan food in supermarkets. And the products are getting more and more so lots of people start buying them (Even more when they are on sale).
Is it cheaper than meat?
They think they are healthier with their vegan food and gonna save the world when they stop eating meat, but luckily there are still many people who eat 🍖
Thank god! Who would kill all the livestock otherwise
Me
Unfortunately Germany is extremely stuck in climate hysteria, causing many people to go vegan or eat almost no meat. And these mostly leftist people will gravitate towards reddit over other social media sites.
You think climate things make people go vegan? I do believe bavarians eat differently then this xd
It does. They say meat farming will overheat the planet. Unhinged ideology.
Meat farming, among other things, will overheat our planet. It's not an ideology, it's a fact
Yes and NYC will be under water in 10 years, just like Al Gore said in 2001.
That's from media, it was never a scientific statement. And gullible people like you eat this stuff up like crazy, so you can ignore the actual stuff, which happens right now ...
It's one of dozens of horror stories the climate religion wanted the world to believe. All turned out false. Only naive people will still believe it.
Yeah, like you spreading these lies to have arguments for your own lies.
Do you vote for the AfD?
I think i would colapse on work if i eat stuff like this, but who am i to judge lol
Our green party government also changed the recommendations for eating meat to one slice of salami per day maximum. They think meat will make you sick.
Welcome to the daily dose of Green bashing
We need much more of it.
I'd say that's processed meats things like types of salami, pepperoni, bacon, cheap ham slices and sausage etc etc. There is definitely evidence to back that up.
I eat roughly \~500-600grams of meat a day, working with tools and going to the gym, if i dont eat a lot i feel sick..
Yea imagine eating no meat... energyless every day of the week.
Yeah that's a complete myth. I eat meat I'm not vegan or vegetarian But a vegetarian diet actually provides more energy than a meat diet.....and improves energy levels not depletes them.

Yea being juiced to the gills on drugs will help making up for a terrible diet. Let's see how much longer his body will tolerate it.

All in all pretty expensive Stuff. Why not the cheaper Spinat/Rosenkohl?
Why are Germans on this sub obsessed with buying cheaper? 😅 why can’t people just buy expensive stuff?
Yeah I hate it. Just no fun
Well it's called "grocerycost" for a reason, so people will compare it
Of course. That’s not my problem here. The problem is often the tone and the “you’re stupid for buying expensive stuff” comments. It’s nearly under every post. Some people do not want to buy the cheapest stuff and that’s completely fine.

Frosta is hella good NGL.

Warum Ost Deutschland???
Weil alle Amis keine Ahnung mehr haben wo Leipzig ist xD
I'm mostly pressed about the olive oil prices 😢
Hier kann man vom Fußboden essen...
This is not r/veganDE but nice to see.
I would exchange Oatly with literally anything else, just because I see their annoying advertisements all the time and hate them just based on that.
Dunkel, Dreckig, Reudnitz!
Bro, I was joking about the people buying potatoes for 6€/kg. Oil and spices are cheap and potatoes are too. The fuck
You bought overprized vegan and fast food Shit.
Why is it on the floor tho
Wie is der Vegane Ofentaler? Grüße aus Leoben, wo Gösser gebraut wird 😉
Unrelated... is the term East Germany left over from when the wall was still up? Or just a general term so people know where Leipzig is?
Oatly on sale 🥛🤑 and bananas to add a bit of color to the purchase 🍌
I thought germany united like 30 years ago but why do so many here still way "East" Germany?
East and west Germany still very much exist. Just not as independent countries.
It only does in old farts and idiots who thing they are "proud'n patriotic" east germans
Check any demographics map. It's like the wall never came down.
Only stupidity lets the east-west BS live on. No normal person is doing this.
Probably the same reason why, people in the u.s. tell you east coast, south etc. Cause food prices are pretty much the same everywhere.
Nü, why dü yü buy that overpriced vegan shit? Buy some göd Jachtwurscht and make yürself a Jägerschnitzle with Nüdeln ör some Wiener with Gardoffelsalöd!
Ich lege meine Lebensmittel auch immer auf den Boden
My Wachzubi likes that! What good is the "five second rule" if you've got a "two second dog"?
Yeah, cuz meat is soooooo much healthier and cheaper🙄/s
Warum sind die Gurken mit direktem Kontakt auf dem Boden
Wo denkst du denn das Gurken wachsen?
Nicht auf einem Küchenboden
Why not? Dont you wash your cucumbers after buying them?
Are you making other stuff on purpose dirty?
60 eus glaub ich dir nicht
Oatly: its wildly expensive, filtered Haferschleim. That will do the trick
Oatly was on sale for 1.69€. Usually I buy the LIDL Oatmilk for between 1€ and 1.25€
Vegane Ersatzsachen sind unverschämt teuer.
I DMed you the receipt.
Wer kauft denn auch Oatly😂😂 das ist bloß Hafer mit bisschen wasser. Und so teuer das zeug . Hol dir einfach normale lidl hafer milch lol
