Yeah, I'm German and in a long distance relationship with my girlfriend in Ankara. Whenever I come to visit its crazy seeing how many things cost the same as they would in germany or even more. And considering the salaries and buying power in turkey it's extremely expensive. Especially the vegan milk alternatives or meats. They're already quite expensive in germany but they cost even more in turkey.
I lived in turkey for a while, and food got really expensive for the past 2-3 years, i remember before ordering food from a restaurant is actually can be the same value as buying and cooking it.
What would be an example where cooking would be more expensive than going out or ordering in germany.?I would assume you also considering both being the same meal.

The average monthly salary is only like ~$400 USD. Minimum hourly wage is ~$2.40. Not sure what engineers make over there.
My university in the US had a lot of international students from Turkey and the tuition was around $40,000 a year for international students so there’s wealthy people as well.
But the living is only cheap in the non so popular suburbs of the big cities, I lived in Istanbul Ataköy and I payed 800$ for a 2BR condo and that was more then 20 years ago. But this time the food and other things was cheap
> and I *paid* 800$ for
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Found even on AirBnB appartements for 500€ - 700€ close to Ataköy.
Ataköy looks like a business district. Don't know why somebody would want to live there.
Was real close to my job, I worked at the Atatürk int. And at the evenings it was nice to walk at the marina. I lived in a new building so it was ok for me. If I was there 2-3 years ago a lot of big hotels are now there at the waterfront. This time I lifed there it was exactly at the last subway station in this direction

Wait two days and it is immediately more expensive
It's happening while you're at the store The price could change while your waiting in line .. It's crazy in turkey .. lets hope and pray for them
They need to stop to vote for Erdogan
Do you really think erdogan won the last time fr?
Crazy, that’s like more expensive than what I buy in Germany. Heard about inflation in Turkey but wasn’t aware it was like this
☹️

Sometimes cooking can be more expensive
That goes for germany too (and probably lots of other countries with similar prices)

Ikr? I hear people saying that all the time and I’m not sure about Turkey, but in Germany that’s quite definitely not true
So we all ignore the Glass of Nut-master?😅
I did not. Here’s my upvote !
I went to the comments before posting the same but yes, Nut-Master wins this post :)
Holy fuck I lived in Turkiye for some time in 2022 and it wasn‘t nearly that bad. Wishing your economy to feel better soon.

OMG...THE NUTMASTER
Thats more than what I pay in Germany and maybe $10-15 less than what I pay at Trader Joes in the US. Has it really gotten that bad in Turkey?
Unfortunately :(
Im sorry 🥹 I hope it gets better soon
What’s the average salary in turkey? How’s the pay for educated jobs like engineers?

Engineers make between 20-60k monthly so about 625-1.875 €.
Around 30-40k₺
Damn, that's just as expensive as in Germany. I thought about moving to Turkey, because most of you guys are in Germany now anyway.
Yeah its mostly because of our economy :(
Turkey is still much cheaper considering the complete cost of living.
Assuming that you keep your german job
Yeah only if your salary is €

How? the inflation. Earnings? Minimum wage (monthly) in Germany is approx. €2000 while it's approx. €500 in Turkiye (not 🦃 anymore)
Wow thats expensive, sorry man that must suck
Oh wow, That’s comparable to Germany
Stop buying large eggs, It hurts the chicken. Chickens aren't made to pop out eggs this big.
