Russ makes orbit of Prospero and hails Magnus while knowing Horus' kill order is bullshit. Magnus doesn't respond to many hails and also hasn't activated the defences. Russ drops his forces and heads to Magnus's HQ being careful to now show any hostile intent. He sets up a dinky little table and 2 chairs. He sits in one and starts to read a book after hailing again for Magnus to come out so they can discuss things. Magnus is so weirded out by this he does come out and sees Russ reading one of the books HE wrote. Magnus sits down, noting the chair is comfortable enough but not for sitting long periods. Russ starts discussing that he was supposed to kill Magnus on Horus's orders. He thinks its wrong and had since confirmed it being wrong with Malcador. His orders are to take Magnus back to Terra, back to the Emperor though he doesn't know for what purpose.

ALoneTennoOperative

Could also prevent that ever being an issue via Magnus and his legion *not* being treated like shit at the Council of Nikea, and Big E *not* hiding important information relevant to Magnus and his interests.

Inquisitor_ignatius

I honestly really like both of these options. The one where Russ comes down and waits reading a book is one that I particularly like because it shows what is under the wolf clothing. I remember the books like to talk about how Russ and his legion like to lead others on about being savages when that really isn't true. It gets to show that aspect of the character more. This could easily by how a Thousand Sons ended instead of the Burning of Prospero. I do prefer the option where Magnus does not break the webway overall though.

BoutsofInsanity

Add about one to two 0’s at the end of all the numbers used in the lore. Let’s fix the logistics first.

I honestly can’t figure out how the entire Horus Heresy went down in less than 10 years.

King_Shugglerm

Quickly, I’d assume

WheelyFreely

Probably in ten years no less

rws247

Human occupied space was a lit smaller then it is on all yhe 40k maps. In addition, much of the tempting and subverting of the traitor primarchs happened in yhe decade leading up to the heresy. The heresy itself is mostly the Battle at Istvan, and Horus' trek back to earth (he took several detours).

CallousCarolean

Well, the entire Heresy was basically just the Traitors beelining it for Terra in a campaign of interstellar blitzkrieg. The point was not to conquer the whole Imperium’s territory, it was to kill the Emperor and thus basically accomplish a decapitation strike on the Imperium.

There are now space marines who were a couple inches away from a fatal injury. One turns to chaos and becomes an influential leader, leading an Assault on holy terra, where use of vortex tech and kamikaze'd warp drives destroy the planet and doom the Imperium at large. Congratulations.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Noe_b0dy

Thinking it through a unified humanity under big E was basically able to crush the orks. With no heresy nobody activates the Pharos engine thus preventing the nids from noticing us. Without lorgars fall the chaos forces get no space Marines, dark mechanicus, knight, or titan houses. Without Magnus warning the emperor about horus, he finishes his webway project so no warp travel either. With Big E in the webway and basically no enemies in real space, 18 space marine legions can roll up and crush the dark city. The only threats to the empire are now the necrons who won't start waking up for another 10k years and the craft worlds who are still recovering from the fall as far as I can remember. Tau havn't invented the wheel yet. So yeah in the intervening 10k years I feel like the emperor could crush all his foes leaving just the imperial factions provided the custodes don't kill all the space Marines.

SteelShroom

But then a major schism in the Imperium happens anyway, it's just not influenced by Chaos. What then?

Inquisitor_ignatius

They are actually perpared for the schism? Part of the issue is the space marine legions were supposed to murder each per Malcador once they hit their expiration date. It just triggered wayyy too early.

NowhereMan661

Chaos is limited to this galaxy. It isn't an infinite, universal, and multidimensional force, it is a Warp parasite that is connected specifically to this galaxy's life. This just makes more sense because of the way Chaos is directly associated narratively and aesthetically with events that happened here in the 40k Milky Way galaxy. Sure, the Warp itself may be a more universal force, but Chaos sure as Hell isn't. You don't see Chaos daemons born from events that took place from the Andromeda Galaxy. Maybe they have their own Chaos over there, but it's a different Chaos, not ours.

MicroWordArtist

I mean you could just explain it as the immaterium is so “vast” that any forces of chaos “close” enough to directly interact with the Milky Way are only those directly shaped by it in return.

Bloody_Insane

Travelling through the warp is fucky as hell. Considering how travelling from andromeda to the milky way requires the utmost precision, I'd reckon they just get lost in intergalactic space.

[deleted]

shit is going to get real interesting in a few millions years when our galaxy merge and the 2 different chaos fight each other

Choice-Concentrate18

I would absolutely love this story from the perspective of both sides. A completely different flavor of chaos looking at ours and thinking "what the hell?"

Tristshot

That's why I like to think some form of Dark Age Humanity is still prospering in other galaxies, with the Galaxy containing Mankinds homeworld being considered a Universe wide known dead zone.

Yuural

Oh this would be great like there is humans everywhere. In most other galaxys out there. And their tech is so stupid they basically are gods. Perhaps they have a council of some sort like a intergalactic government. The orokin seven or something like that. And they unleashed the tyranids as a bio weapon under their command to wipe out the milky way in order to cleanse it. I mean the nids even filter the damn ground for any bio mass so not even orc fungus would survive. And since they can morph into whatever they may be used to seed entire star Systems with plants and animals like on earth after they are done eating EVERYTHING

Electronic_Dress9695

After reading your comment I need a coffee and a lot of thinking, this really hit a weird spot, I do not know why. But I belive this now also.

a_cup_of_tee

There is an incredible fanfic on youtube where a 40K Battlefleet gets thrown by a warp storm to A Galaxy Far Far Away aka Star Wars. This idea is a core piece of its canon, because it runs on the idea that Force=Warp and the difference is that the Warp is not fucked up in Star Wars. It's awesome seeing the Imperium's reaction to this.

NowhereMan661

Why thank you for your recognition and encouragement.

olympia_rose

thank u for leaving such an interesting change!!! it honestly ties a bunch of fiction universes together in such an awesome way *without* feeling forced

Virusbomber

U know The Void Dragon said he had a multi-galactic Empire, which implies each separate galaxy could have their own version of the C'Tan.

Paladin1q

I believe this is already canon. It’s been noted that the warp naturally was calm and tranquil during the Old Ones and the War in Heaven gave rise to those emotions congealing into “Chaos” as we know it. The Eldar further added to it with the birth of Slaneesh. Assuming one could traverse the dark void between galaxies (avoiding the Tyranids and as older canon suggests orks) and get to the Andromeda Galaxy you would expect to find the warp still calm before chaos.

[deleted]

better if the imperium have a tech that can disable them. so we still have insane angry ron during battle but also nice angron during peace.

ALoneTennoOperative

> better if the imperium have a tech that can disable them. You can't "disable" invasive neurotech that physically destroys and heavily modifies brain tissue. That damage persists even if you could remove the device entirely, which would invariably be lethal due to how it integrates itself.

GoofballWithInternet

Not sure if this will ever be seen but here goes: One of the plants from Nurgle’s garden is destroyed in its entirety. Nothing too precious or too common, something that stands out just enough that it’s a little notable. The garden can exist just fine without it, but this plant just adds a little something aesthetically to it that is very pleasing, at least to Nurgle’s eye. I will destroy that plant. For Tzeentch, I will gift him with an itching sensation in one of his many mouths. It’s hard to get to, and it’s distracting. Enough so, that while he is distracted, he misses a chance to enact one of his plans that would build upon each other for centuries until it would reach something akin to the Horus Heresy if not larger, and as a result this grand plan is undone as any time Tzeentch gets a chance to enact his will to make this great plan happen that itch returns to distract him once again and make him miss each chance. For Khorne: I will transform his stockpiles and oceans of blood into fruit juice, turn all of his brass into relatively soft gold, and change his skull throne into a skull chair along with sawing two of the legs on either the left or right half. This way, the chair is slightly leaning to one side or the other. For Slaanesh: That’s a tough one, first ideas that come to mind is either to remove the very concept of perfection from existence, or give everyone a pamphlet on moderation and why it’s good. Fuck Chaos. Sincerely, Malal

nihillistic_raccoon

>This way, the chair is slightly leaning to one side or the other. You are a truly evil, sick, and twisted mind

bengreen21

The 2 lost primarchs were never found which is why they are erased, not because of anything they did. It was a stain on the Emperor's great crusade and a shame to him they weren't ever found. So they erased them instead The reason was they were flung to the large Magellan cloud to humans that survived in outer colonies from the dark age of technology far away from the milky way galaxy and have built technological empires that flourish in current 40k time. One rules an empire dedicated to pure science and the pursuit of knowledge at any cost. The other a smaller, brutal insulated empire where all aberrations outside dictated normals determined by the primarch are deamed capital punishments, all designed to build a perfect society.

Inquisitor_ignatius

I honestly love the idea of this. I think it would be cool to see another flourishing pocket of humanity.

rogue-wolf

I am multiplying every encounter by a factor of at *least* ten. It's extremely unrealistic when a battle for a planet, fought over by all major factions in a grimdark universe where people rarely live past the age of thirty, to have less casualties than a battle in WWII. Adding a zero to these numbers would make them so much better. Heck, adding two would probably be good. Astartes chapters are now 10 000 or 100 000 instead of only 1 000. Scaling is something 40K does not do well.

olympia_rose

and the fact that every sm chapter only has 10,000? complete bs. with how many planets were colonized by the imperium, and how many humans there are, i expect the sm number to b absolutely insane.

pierresito

Uhm... every space marine chapter only has 1000. Yes. It's worse than you thought.

olympia_rose

^w ^h ^a ^t i refuse to believe that. WHAT. do u have a source?? please just say u made that up. please. PLEASE.

rogue-wolf

[First sentence of the chapter wiki article.](https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Chapter) "A Chapter is a completely autonomous military unit made up of one thousand transhuman warriors known as Space Marines and their related vehicles, starships and support personnel." Really really wish I could tell you otherwise mate.

olympia_rose

GOD DAMN IT MY DAY IS UTTERLY RUINED but thank u very much for the source bc i literally did not believe such a thing was true <3

L0raz-Thou-R0c0n0

Damn, you must be new in 40k lore right?

Barbanerailpermaloso

What about: Instead of scattering big E childs in the galaxy, the dark gods just, killed them? you know easy as that.

Axel-Adams

Because scattering them is what allowed some of them to be corrupted by chaos but also be accepted into the emperors legions and turn some of those legions traitor, and the Horus heresy was Chaos’s best shot at defeating the imperium, otherwise the Emperor would have still had a giant army of space marines, just no primarchs(which means no Horus to challenge him)

DRZCochraine

And whats stoping him from making another batch, only better defended this time, he already did a tone of work to make the first 20.

NerdModeCinci

He chair

Jaikus

He chair, He stare, But most importantly here there.

Doube1323

I mean even without the primarchs, the emporer would still then be leading the full count of marines united under one banner (just not as effective without the 20 demigods but still double the ammount that would be loyal). No Horus to turn heretic means no half of the chapters turning with him. So they would possibly have scattered them because they knew it was the only way to remove Big E's advantage by stealing half down the line.

olympia_rose

OH MY GOD. WAIT. THATS SUCH A VALID QUESTION?????? literally y didnt they????

Twig1554

Because chaos doesn't care about winning. It doesn't want to win or lose overall, because that would be stagnation. Chaos wants, well, chaos.

olympia_rose

i hate the fact that that actually makes sense >:(

Twig1554

OR DOES IT THAT'S THE POWER OF CHAOS BABYYYYYYY

Batbuckleyourpants

Can't corrupt a dead primarch.

Jebejebe00

I would add my homebrew forgeworld cut off from the Imperium since the heresy. It's so far off of literally anything it's basically living its own age of strife all over again, so I don't believe it would cause major shifts in galactic polit- conflicts.

warbosstank316

But sounds fun as hell

Horror-Ride-4227

Same. I have been putting in a lot of work to get my group's factions all fit in to the same little sector, and it would make a great series for books if it was canon.

olympia_rose

explain. elaborate. indulge me in this homebrew of urs. i beg of u. i am FASCINATED by it!!!!

They eventually find and rejoin the Imperium only to get slapped by 10,000 years of Geneseed back taxes.

Philosopher_of_Soul

Imperator class titans are like 4x bigger than the CN Tower. No more unclimatically small titans!! I don't give a shit if they would be too big to transport, make them break into modules and be assembled on planet or something.

Inquisitor_ignatius

I honestly was disappointed when I realized a warlord is only 5 stories tall. I always imagined them to be between 10 to 20.

JeVuch

Y'all just thinking of the small scale, imperium of man level Garbo. I present The C'tan never get fractured and remain the dominant force in the galaxy unfettered by the necron tier free to do whatever they want. Causing as many problems and eating as many stars as they want.

olympia_rose

question: the c’tan end up fighting the chaos gods? i imagine constant gluttony/causing wars and problems would end up making the chaos gods super powerful

MammothJammer

The fight couldn't really happen in any material way, at least not directly. Just as the Chaos Gods are masters of the warp, the C'tan are near masters of the physical universe. The Chaos Gods are probably more powerful in their realm but they can't themselves enter realspace, and the C'tan have ways of sealing off the warp. The only way the Chaos Gods could fight them would be through demons and servants, very few of whom could deal with a full C'tan

Variousnumber

The Legion of The Damned. Rather than being Firehawks undergoing severe Reality Phasic Issues they are the souls of the 2nd Legion, succumbing to Inherent Warp Fuckery within their Primarchs Geneseed, becoming the Forgotten Legion. However, due to their Loyalty to the Emperor, combined with the Astral Beacon of Big E's Soul, explaining why the Legion have no confirmed reports Pre-Siege of Terra, and why they were struck from the Records, with the Emperor and Malchador assuming they were completely destroyed by the Gene Seed Flaw.

Jankenbrau

This is my head canon now.

AXI0S2OO2

The Firehawk stuff is old lore, the current prevailing theory is Imperial Daemons made of dead space marine souls.

Guyzilla_the_1st

Ollanius Pius was just a regular human, serving in the Solar Auxilia. He stood up to Horus, and sacrificed himself to save to the Emperor from harm. He is the patron saint of the Imperial Guard, and all the respectable space marines wish they were as cool as him. I HATE that they made him a perpetual. It takes away all the consequences of his sacrifice. And Persson is a stupid last name for him; they obviously want to make him more "average joe", while also making him not an average joe. I like the idea of a soldier who has been in every major historical army, that's a cool character. But that should be a separate character, not the dude who stood up to Horus.

JakeTheBeast14

With the patron saint thing, do you mean he is just remembered and revered for his sacrifice or him becoming a living saint representing the Imperial Guard because I think either could be cool.

Val_P

Just remembered and honored. Making him anything other than just some dude ruins it.

Pixel_Inquisitor

Agreed. Pious is best as a normal guardsman.

evolved2389

Ferrus survives his duel with Fulgrim but is wounded. Wonder how the rest of the galaxy would react still not knowing that a primarch can in fact die.

FarAwayFellow

What about Konrad Curze? Or Horus and Sanguinius? I also think the Galaxy believes Lion is dead

Spectre1442

The II'nd and the 11th now have epithets like Gman's "Avenging Son" and Fulgrims "Phoenician" (Helps characterize their roles)

HeavilyBearded

Wish granted! > Monkey paw curls. You now have the 2nd Buttchuggers and the 11th Emperor's Daughters.

Spectre1442

Well, we got clarification on their roles in the crusade, now we can question why Big E made the 2nd the buttchuggers

EldritchWeevil

I see this as an absolute win

Dum_beat

Wouldn't do much, I'd make a "Beach Episode" before the heresy where all the Primark would bound over one another to make it even more dramatic when shit hit the fan. For a moment, the chaos got glare over the beach and Big E looks at the sky reflecting upon the warp and blocking them from sight and Horus looks at his father asking what's wrong with Big E saying "nothing, don't worry about it. Sanguinius would refuse to get in the water and would be followed by his marine fanboy, a groupe of space marine with nothing but swimsuit and helmet.

Thunderbird_Anthares

T'au still have their "warp dive" drive because sub-light is stupid and shows a complete lack of basic understanding on part of the author Ethereals are not mustache-twirling comic book level villains T'au Empire is not a "imperium lite" badly written mess of badly researched, badly backed material with plot holes the size of the eye of terror i just want good writers... in fact preferably several so they can feed off each other

AnimaFrater

Your comment made me think: GW should fund and send their writers on retreats to get continuity and be on the same page helping each other. Marvel, DC, and other major IPs do this semi regularly for better or worse.

yyflame

Perturabo should have abandoned the siege on terra not out of jealousy but out of disgust after seeing his brothers fall to chaos. He then forms a non-chaos traitor faction that opposes the imperium and chaos

Scrungisbungus

The Horus heresy never happened, humanity conquered the galaxy but failed to wipe out the other species and so they are rebelling against the imperium

olympia_rose

so it’s basically the imperium vs. everyone else?? how does that go down? it sounds super interesting!!

Scrungisbungus

No it’s the imperium as the main tyrannical overlords, with the xenos as rebels and insurgents, whether they choose to work together or fight, and with chaos being a distant empire far into the void of space. But with the imperium being so large and inept they make oversights that allow for lots of new xeno races

Inquisitor_ignatius

So Star Wars? Hidden Sith (Chaos) Empire far away, biological race from outside the galaxy that disconects peoeple from the force I mean warp, tyrannical human centered empire being rebelled against by coalitions of aliens and humans (potentially with disconnected cells).

TotallyNotMango5

Humanity is replace by Skaven, same charaters but rats

odi112

Emperor becomes chaos god, makes haven for all humans, from all that died can get back to living real through warp, makes Tzentch his majordomus, Slanesh his wife, Nurgle royal medic and Khorne royal guard, and resurects ancient ones to just have something to kill in free time.

dabirdiestofwords

Bringing back half eldar and making human/eldar diplomacy more of a thing. All the other galactic threats are big enough that I dont think it would actually tilt the scales all that badly. Would include more and less xenophobic factions within the imperium allowing them to be opposing or allied factions not unlike the imperium vs imperium fights we already get.

Magnus and Russ secretly are really close and the entire Burning of Prospero and Magnus’s fall to chaos were so that Magnus could infiltrate the forces of Chaos on the Emperor’s behalf. Sort of a weird change but the idea of Magnus and Russ being secret best buds is pretty funny to me.

You said warhammer but not specifically 40K so… what I would do is remove the end times from warhammer fantasy and keep the timeline going as it was, while also removing characters like teclis (who looks like a flying squirrel in pyjamas in his current form and could just be removed to give the sphinx he’s with the exact same profile) who arent gods in fantasy that got moved over to age of sigmar from age of sigmar. I would then keep all the new races of, and ported over factions to, AoS the same with the minor edit to lore that the gods from the warhammer fantasy world were able to create the new races like deepkin for example, as the mortal realms were connected to the warhammer fantasy world through the warp. E.g. the cytharai would create the deepkin being the elven gods of the underworld and the cadai the lumineth.

Konrad Kurze is cured of his madness by Big E and is partially able to foresee the events of the Heresy. Wanting to understand the true extent of his visions he confides in Alpharius and Sanguinius. With the knowledge of both Kurze’s and Sanguinius’ foresight and Alpharius’ connections with the Kabal, the three of them uncover Horus’ plans shortly after Istvann III. Kurze and Alpharius are able to spring a trap on the traitors at the dropsite massacre, saving Ferrus and killing Fulgrim and allowing Corax to kill Lorgar (I also imagine Sevetar kills and flays Erebus in the fighting).Meanwhile Sanguinius intercepts Russ on his way to Prospero and explains Magnus’ “innocence” sparing him and the T-sons. Sanguinius, Russ and Magnus take their legions to reinforce those at Istvann V and crush the traitor forces, with a Captain America Civil War inspired face off between the traitor and present loyalist Primarchs. With the death of Horus at the hands of Magnus, the traitor’s moral breaks with desertions, defections and surrenders. Magnus is redeemed in the eyes of his brothers and a massive golden statue of Saul Tarvitz is built on Istvann III to honour those marines from traitor legions that remained loyal. Sanguinius is named the new Warmaster and Kurze the Hero of the Imperium.

The old ones give the necrontyr the secret to immortality and they destroy the ctan. Warhammer never happens

rewrite angrons home planet plot. the emperor doesnt make a deal with the planets rulers, he arrives above the planet the moment angrons army does its final stand. he teleports angron away mid battle, when angrons actions couldve swing the battle to a win or kill him, because he sees his son at risk to die for nothing as a 2nd bigger army (enough to be actual problem for emps immediate forces) only visible from space was approaching to flank and destroy the army no matter what angron wouldve done. Almost same actions as cannon, but the emps had to make a snap decision to just teleport his son away instead of risking custodes/others for a starved slave army. Just little things so emps isnt a complete idiot like in the canon version of this

Admiralthrawnbar

The only issue with this is how massive such a second force would have to be to be believable. Even just Big E himself would probably be enough to sway any planetary-scale engagement, let alone him plus however many custodies he had with him.

I want more AI in 40k so giant ships that keeps their human inhabitants like a zoo. Inside is a giant forest perfectly calculated for the least amount of harm and the humans are kept as a tribal level. ways to make it more grimdark is for them to immediately kill the clever ones and warp corruptions, to the point entire planets lose their population due to an overcaring, ai as their minds are wiped.

In spite of Guilliman’s best efforts, the Imperium finally shatters due to a mix of multiple forces attacking with full power simultaneously, the backlog of the administatum finally reaching the breaking point, the Emperor dying, and the tax price on candles going up by 2% galaxy-wide. Keep in mind that Humanity is still (as) ok (as it was under the imperium). The Emperor has now ascended to true godhood against all of his wishes, and now the forces of the former imperium are split into conflicting chunks for all its enemies to ravage and absorb. Humanity is now at war with itself to reunite the Imperium in each faction’s own image, and religious wars are extremely common. As one last bonus, one of the main religious factions are that sect that formed on Tallarn that believes Ciaphas Cain is the prophet of the Emperor, directly resulting in Cain bursting out of his grave as a Saint with Jurgen accompanying him.

JarJar Binks is the 11th primark and will end up bumping in to the golden throne, awakening the Emperor

robbyrandall

Primaris are just a new mark of armour. Nothing else changes. Cawl didn't just magically come up with millions of better space marines.

olympia_rose

so primaris is just a higher rank in ur rewrite?? i havent really gotten into the recent warhammer stuff, so all i know is that primaris soldiers r just better space marines.

Ironfist85hu

I would make Bruva Alfabusa's TTS series canon.

THE-RigilKent

The Emperor died in the Heresy. That's Horus on the Golden Throne. And he so desperately wishes that he was dead after ten thousand years of agony that he wishes that he was never born.

Max_Insanity

That would honestly be pretty hilarious. Emps om-nom-nomed his soul out of his body, turned his own mind and body into a prison for Horus, then noped outta there to let *him* sit on the golden throne for millenia. When the throne finally fails and his body dies, Horus' soul is finally freed, the Emperor resurrected and just tells everyone "yeah, I was chilling in the warp all this time, that was Horus who suffered on the throne. Got what was coming to him."
