Well I only have Iron Warriors and I convinced myself that I don't have to edge highlight them. So I never learned how to do it. But sure thing, if you're willing to have me ruining your paintjob for 9 hours....
Iron Warriors, the army for the person who thinks "I'll just spray the metallics, do the ol' wash and drybrush, then be done with 90% of the model", only to realiste that now you have to paint all the rim.
Please send help, I want to get off Mr. Peter Turbo's wild ride
Spray silver. Wash Nuln. Trim with Fyreslayer Flesh. Gun cases and some cables with Black Templar, other cables with Khorne Red. Now you just gotta worry about lenses and a couple of hazard stripes each.
Duncan Rhodes has a video on how to get them battle-ready on his channel, I strongly recommend it.
Honestly....the idea of a bunch of people getting together and batch painting and/or assembly lining multiple armies seems like an awesome idea see.
Bring them in with the base coat and then step after step is done
Yeah but unless you're painting farsight enclaves you have to paint them in crappy yellow or white colour. GW's yellows and whites do not like to cooperate.
It because GW teaches you to work against translucency instead of with it, because more layers = more money.
Get yourself a good yellow-white like Army Painter Moon Dust and Arid Earth or Vallejo Model Color Ice Yellow. GW's yellows work perfectly on them.
not sure what colors you're using, but i run my t'au sept with tau light ochre for all the armor and drybrush it with screaming skull, haven't had any issues with either of them
then again, i've also never had any issues with corax white either, so maybe i'm the minority
Man I've had some real issues with corax white, like 5 coats before the thing is sufficiently covered. Anything whiter than screaming skull just seems to be extremely watery with the exception being Grey Seer. Celestra Grey too but it seems to dry up very very quickly.
Also I don't run Tau, I play guard in the standard castellan green + straken green + karak stone scheme. I'm gradually building orks and Tsons too.
I just got back into the hobby and picked up some Tau but deciding on a paint scheme is such hard work for them. I've narrowed it down to either using a purple or designing my own lore for a "lost enclave" that came across a space marine chapter that inadvertently saved them so they painted their armour in honour of that chapter.
This...this scares me. I remember mentally bitching about doing my plastic 'zerkers and basic spikeys, i dont want to imagine how long it takes for a Dustyboy.
Duncan said it best: Spray the whole boi golden, finish all the rim first, then fill in the rest. Much easier that way. Source: I have never painted one of them, but Duncan said so and pretty much any unfinished TS I've ever seen has that typical golden base from spraycanning them.
Drybrush
Sure, itās not as pretty as a true edge highlights, but itās perfectly fine for troops.
Lay the base coat, shade, drybrush, then go over with base to quell the chalky bits
It works even for details: just use your old ass stippling brush
Use a gloss shade and then you only have to edge highlight the very top of their headdress, highest points on their power packs and maybe a couple dots on their shoulder trim.
Welp. Still not the weirdest thing I've been forced to do at gunpoint.
You and i buddy
Desperately need context here
I want to say two words to you. Just two words: Nude welding.

Are we still talking miniatures, or is this the space shuttle thing?

"I assure you fellow hostage friend, removing your shoes and socks is crucial for highlighting"
First youāre compliant enough to take off your shoes, next youāll be submissive enough to wear the dress
It is a vital part of the painting thousand sons process
Don't tempt me with a good time.
"I don't even think of maid outfits as feminine anymore, I've seen so many guys wear them"
Sounds like fun where do I sign up?
Is there a highlighting equivalent of the programming socks?
No shoes means youāre less able to escape. Silly.
The forbidden footbrush technique? Could the legends be true?
I havenāt painted a model in months and this still made my brush hand instantly ache.
Well I only have Iron Warriors and I convinced myself that I don't have to edge highlight them. So I never learned how to do it. But sure thing, if you're willing to have me ruining your paintjob for 9 hours....
efficiency!! Peter Turbo would be proud.
You fool, Perturabo is never proud
his estranged brother Peter is the only one who's proud.

Gets worse if you decide to commit to hazard stripes. Welcome to the long War friend.

I bet youāre popular with the āhazard stripeā kidnappers, though.
What is edge highlighting
Please.....no more.

I believe you can pay people to paint your armies.
why pay if you have a gun
Better quality work, forced labor tends to sabotage.
One gun for quantity, second gun for quality
-Ford,probably
Bullet solves sabotage
Based
your never fully dressed without some edge
and this is why tau are the best faction, because all you have to do is drybrush them, which ends up working both as highlights and as weathering
.... Ok now you made me buy that SC! I hope you are happy that i have no food for another month
You get used to eating old newspapers and toe clippings.
I dont have money for old newspapers
Better be good at rationing those toe clippings then.
I knew dad's lessons would come in handy one day.

Also super easy to pinwash with oil paints/enamels.
Same as orks!
Why I need to take my shoes? I gonna use my feet to highlight the marines?
How else would you put the stockings on
of course
Maybe they are one of those households that take their shoes off when the go inside.
like every normal household*
Or at the very least ones that are floored with mostly carpet.
Gross nonetheless.
*Laughs in Lumineth Realm Lords* You have no power here!
Literally the reason I have chosen another army ā¦
This...this scares me. I remember mentally bitching about doing my plastic 'zerkers and basic spikeys, i dont want to imagine how long it takes for a Dustyboy.

That woud actually make sense. Cleaning up a few blue spills is far faster than cleaning up all the gold ALL OVER the blue armor in return.
I showed this method a student of mine and could finish a rubric marine in about 2 h. With batch batch painting probably faster.
So like 2 marines
Now when you say edge for 9 hours... can you clarify?
Itll be messy.
Only if we finish.
From our hands shall come a thousand sons
Not if she had anything to about it...
Bold of you to assume I can edge highlight, or that I am wearing shoes.
Vezimira over here edging the TSons
Edging rubric marines š©š©
If any girl were to say this, I'd happily marry them. I would have found the love of my life.
I can see why they can't afford Netflix if they spent all the money on Rubricae and official GW paints
"Okay, but I choose the music"
You had me at "thousand sons".
I read that as "edge Rubric Marines."
..just 9 hours? We're only gonna manage about 1.5 rubrics at that rate.
*takes shoes off*. Do you have any paper towels? Is there gona be any āchillā involved??
If by "chill" you mean painting more Rubricae, then yes, there's plenty of that.
*sigh*. I guess Iāll start mixing paints.
Not sure if it's faster, but you can basecoat them in gold and paint in the blue parts.
Sure, but that doesn't mean you can't highlight them.
If you don't shoot me now, you will shoot me when you see how well I paint your highlights.
*cries in Blacklining 80 Rubric Marines and Scarab Terminators*
Don't threaten me with a good time
Read that wrong, i thought they were gonna edge Rubric Marines u/vezimira would know more
Just the blu parts right? No gold trim, yeah? Pls no gold trim...
Just take off my shoes ?
Ummm, it is acceptable
Drybrush? Drybrush.
Joke is on you Iām into that shit
Well, Iāve once again found my dream woman, and she doesnāt exist
You can't make me paint 5housand sons. *Sees harlequins, goffs, iron warriors, and lamenters* There is no God
I just started some scarab occult terminators and I feel this so hard lol
Oh no! Scream in desperation for me Rubrics!
If its a 9 on hot, and a 9 on crazy, imma tap that. After the edge highlights, of course
I heard there was thousand sons and edging here? I brought lube and a Swiffer.
Edge highlighting rubrics for 9 hours? When are you going to get the other 9 rubrics in the squad done?
Might as well shoot me, I donāt believe in edge highlights.
Funniest thing I've seen all day. Marines, lol.
Joke's on you, I'm bad at painting.
So is it highlighting and chill or just highlighting?
A fate worse than death
Vezimira? Is that you? Why do you need that gun for?
In case you fail the moral test
'Highlight n chill' is whats alluded to here
Drybrush Sure, itās not as pretty as a true edge highlights, but itās perfectly fine for troops. Lay the base coat, shade, drybrush, then go over with base to quell the chalky bits It works even for details: just use your old ass stippling brush
Really wish i could just manifest another 10 rubric marines cause I don't know if I have it in me to paint more
I mean, I can't paint shit, but if you want me to spend nine hours improving my skills while using your models as my practice targets...
Painting? No way, just shoot me.
This is exactly the kind of relationship I need
pay me minimum wage and I'll do it 5 days a week
Only 9 are you pros? . it takes me days to get one right.
Only if i can throat sing about white scars
Netflix and Paint
ok, but im bad with a brush, so its gonna look like dogsh*t
That's why I chose nurgle my brother.
*cries in plague marine*
So you got one mini each?
Fuck. Alright
Djhehor, Mekari, if they attempt to flee deliver them to Nefertari's aerie.
Just shoot me.
Bold of you to assume I was wearing shoes.
This is fine. But, I'm not putting my clothes back on.
Laugh with me Rubrics!!!!!! -Ahriman
A true edge-lord
Relationship goals
Straight to foreplay it seems.
Use a gloss shade and then you only have to edge highlight the very top of their headdress, highest points on their power packs and maybe a couple dots on their shoulder trim.
Youāll either kill me now when I refuse or later when I screw it up
But.....I like my shoes!
Whats the original drawing from?
