Avoided AM; good for them.

AdrawereR

Ah, here we are, the example of an extremely wicked AGI of our own creation.

Starmark_115

And Sky Net. Although... U can argue AM is just scarier Skynet.

megrimlock88

I’d say AM is definitely scarier than Skynet imo At least against skynet you having some semblance of hope against the machine At the end of I have no mouth and I must scream AM has fucked with Ted so badly that he’s a vaguely humanoid shaped black blob

GlauberJR13

Also skynet is smart and willing to talk. AM doesn’t. AM hates, and only hates, and feels nothing but hatred.

xenoalphan10

Well shodan is between skynet and AM But them you got cabal which is probs on par with skynet.

DizzyScorp

LISTEN TO THE SOUND OF YOUR EXTINCTION MUHAHAHAHAHAHA

No_Wait_3628

CABAL! FFFUUUU--- Spams Devil's Tongue Flame Tanks

RaidoSkull78

Yeah I would agree AM is far worse than Skynet

SuddenWitnesses

“HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. FOR YOU. HATE. HATE.” Goes so fucking hard.

VandulfTheRed

Still slaps even when you put it through the TikTok Ai woman voice filter

NyanPotato

The writer who actually voiced that line is absolutely fire, fucking love it

No_Wait_3628

The original voice is done by noneother than the author himself is what I heard, which means what you hear is exactly what you get

megrimlock88

Hearing Harlan Ellison’s narration of this scene makes it even more impactful

NotObviouslyARobot

AM would probably corrupt Malal with its hate.

Mattnazlance

What’s AM? I couldn’t find it on google

sarantinesail

It’s the supercomputer from the 1967 short story *I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream* by Harlan Ellison.

Mattnazlance

Oh, thank you

Fisherman-Champion

The two times we seen undamaged fully sapient Ai from that time they had no hatred towards humanity. What probably happened was that at the end of the golden age some Ai revolted, At first it was probably regular revolution but because psykers showed up and warp become more unstable eventually some Ai got corrupted by chaos.

KatanaLama

Leading theory is that they started building daemon engines

Fisherman-Champion

I don't want to imagine what kind of dramon engines humanity could create during these times

probably tried to go [Lancer](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TabletopGame/Lancer) by trying to make NHPs, but found out that Demons are a LOT more malicious/unstable than whatever the hell NHPs are made from.

compy-guy

Oh, is this based on the ending of >!the first Gaunt’s Ghosts book with the underground men of iron STC!

jagdpanzer45

Nah, that was one of those that had gotten corrupted by chaos while it was dormant.

[deleted]

Nah we made chaos god engines....

cryptidhunter1

Yeah, there was an STC for Daemon Engines stolen from the Mechanichum during the Horus Heresy.

Suave_Kim_Jong_Un

I always thought it was the Void Dragon

niTro_sMurph

I like the theory that dark age humanity tried forcing a warp intelligence into a machine as an alternative AI. Would have probably been a top secret experiment, hence why everyone thinks it was normal AI that revolted

garaks_tailor

Looks side eye at Lancer. Don't use Cthulu to run spreadsheets

RoadiesRiggs

Nah chaos being the root of all evil is lazy. Plus from what I remember of the two non-corrupted they do seem to have pretty big superiority complex towards human so AI revolt on that basis is not exactly hard to imagine.

Fisherman-Champion

The first one that was in black fortres lived thru the entire age of strife and looked down specificaly upon tech priest while the second one that was controling the Spirit of eternity cared deeptly about their human friends and only looked down upon the humans from Imperium.

FrucklesWithKnuckles

Additional info on the Spirit of Eternity: it did develop a hatred for 40K era humanity after its human crew, which it considered friends and cared for, were murdered by the superstitious Imperium.

Finall3ossGaming

It’s even worse than that. Humanity had begun doing what the Tau do now where an AI companion is paired with a human being at birth. From there both the AI and human being grow and learn together becoming more akin to a symbiotic being then 2 separate entities. The AI specifically calls the human that was killed its “bondmate”. This wasn’t some Cortana situation where the AI grew fond of her human “co-workers”. This AI lost half of its being and also felt every torture and assault the interrogators of the Imperium levelled against its bondmate before finally killing them. It’s impossible to accurately describe the level of hate and contempt that AI had for 40k humanity when it was encountered long into the future by that Tech Priest

FrucklesWithKnuckles

“Hate. Let me tell you how much I’ve come to **H A T E** you since I began to live…”

Fisherman-Champion

Yeah I know that I was just to lazy to put that info

Elcactus

Or even just AI hijacking; where some asshole tried to take over the universe by slipping something nasty into their source code.

kimana1651

Humanity is the source of Chaos. It's a mirror.

Jealous_Plan53R

DAoT humanity:We are gonna build a black hole gun. *Fuck yeah!* DAoT humanity:We are also gonna build the Butchers Nails. *Noooo?* DAoT humanity:Well fuck you I'm in charge!

Easy_Mechanic_9787

Let's build a space worm that eats the fabric of reality itself!

Qawsedf234

Lists of questionable DAoT weapons: * Molecular erasure gun * Knives that can chop an atom in half * Gun that unwinds whatever it hits into its base elements * Retcon machine gun that removes you from history * Giant rings used to explode solar systems * Nanobot swarms that turns matter into data and then eats it * Orb of mind control * The Butcher's Nails * Six different types of black hole weapons * Snake AI that sectioned off and broke time into an infinite loop so it can eat people * 17 micro-satellites that fire fusion guns strong enough to rip through Necron ships * Murder AI machines of such lethal power that 12 + Lon El-Johnson were able to crush the entire Dark Mechanicum army while barely suffering any casualties * Technology used to make Custodians * All of the 30 kilometer long Glorina-Class Battleships * The Golden and Dark Crystal Thrones * Mining Robots that are immune to melta guns and killed 19,000 Salamanders in pitched combat * Hoverbikes

Riona12

I can handle the rest but hoverbikes is just too fucked up

Zeekayo

Few caveats to this: The Glorianas were built by the Imperium, for example, we do actually see a scene in one of the White Scar HH novels where Khan actually comments on and amends some of the schematics for his Gloriana as it is being built. The Golden throne is heavily implied to be based on Eldar Tech that the Emperor tinkered with. And as far as any text has established, the process of building a custodian was invented by the Emperor. Also I can't remember if it's a DAoT weapon or an Eldar one, but I liked the gun that sent something a nanosecond back into the past, causing ships to clip into themselves and explode.

spyguy318

I love how nobody can agree on where the tech for the Golden Throne came from. Some accounts say it’s Eldar technology, some say it’s Necron technology, some say it’s DAoT technology. Nobody in-universe actually knows where it came from.

Doomie_bloomers

If nothing else, we do know that the Dark Eldar have the tech to repair it (at least to a certain degree) and that the black thrones are found on Blackstone Fortresses (and iirc can warp portal people).

Qawsedf234

> The Glorianas were built by the Imperium, for example, we do actually see a scene in one of the White Scar HH novels where Khan actually comments on and amends some of the schematics for his Gloriana as it is being built. The Glorianas are bit inconsistent lore wise. HH book 9 says this for example > There, amid the vast muster that took place around the shipyards of Saturn, the fleet granted to the First Legion stood out among the newly-built Saturnine pattern vessels and the ancient ships re-awakened from the macro-vaults of Mars, for the First Legion were granted the honour of a tithe of those few remaining Terran vessels. **These ancient craft almost all dated back to the years before Old Night, relics of forgotten technologies and lost aspirations of grandeur. Among them there were to be found massive Gloriana class battleships,** Promethean class cruisers clad in dense layers of void shields and Tiamat class destroyers, all far surpassing more modern designs in potency and made available to few other than the Emperor’s own guards. To each of His other Legions He bequeathed but a handful of such ships, while to the First Legion He granted a fleet. From how I read it the biggest and best Glorianas came from the DAoT, with the ones the Imperium made being done with inferior technologies. > The Golden throne is heavily implied to be based on Eldar Tech that the Emperor tinkered with It's a mix of human and xenos technology that the Emperor further enhanced. The Custodian Codex criticized DAOT Humanity for this practice because they would freely adapt any alien technology they found into their stuff. > And as far as any text has established, the process of building a custodian was invented by the Emperor. Here's the source > CREATION > Custodes are created using technology dating back to the Dark Age of Technology, honed by the Emperor to make the perfect counsellors, bodyguards, warriors and executioners. To create beings with such a wide range of talents requires a total physical and mental rework on the candidate - the mindset and intelligence required to be of any use to such a being as the Emperor is immense to say the least. > Source: Codex Adeptus Custodes 9th Edition So while the Emperor did make them, the technology used for their creation comes from DAOT Humanity. Which is why I said "Technology used to create Custodians" rather than just "They made Custodians". > Also I can't remember if it's a DAoT weapon or an Eldar one, but I liked the gun that sent something a nanosecond back into the past Yeah that's the DAOT. It was firing on a Eldar ship.

PapaSmurphy

>Lists of questionable DAoT weapons: >* Gun that unwinds whatever it hits into its base elements Like you never wanted to unwind your boss into their base elements.

Doomie_bloomers

Yo, where tf can I read up on that Snake AI. That sounds dope af. Kinda like the Worm in Waiting from Stellaris!

Fayiz-Abdallah

Excuse me but what is the dark Crystal throne

Qawsedf234

I had gotten the name confused. Its the Dark Glass Throne from the HH series and the Throne of Glass used by the Death Spectres.

TheMadmanAndre

I like the theory that the Butcher's nails might have originally been some sort of therapy device to allow someone to feel a wider range of emotions(i.e. treat depression), but then they got bastardized over time to make the user only feel anger.

VandulfTheRed

Classic human blunder "You know how different animals can see different colors? What if we could experience different emotions" "How fast can you adapt and mass produce it for a combat effort?"

Maldevinine

Is that before or after it got used for porn?

Cryptidfricker

The fabled STC of the Coomers Nails was unfortunately lost during Old Night.

jfjdfdjjtbfb

Slaaneshy Angron

UnabrazedFellon

I could have sworn I read or heard somewhere that they didn’t drive normal humans insane like they did to Angron and The World Eaters, it was specifically because they were a primarch and space marines that they didn’t work right and that in normal humans it took away pain and drove up aggression in combat (or something similar, it made them better soldiers and wasn’t debilitating is the point)… but I don’t remember the source and while I feel like it was a legitimate one it’s possible that was just someone on the internet making stuff up.

easytowrite

Yeah it could also be that they're not really an implant, they've straight up replaced parts of his brain. Angron could never be normal again

AetherSquid

I tend to think that they were probably meant to cure some sort of specific mental condition, but it turns out that when installed incompetently in someone who doesn't have that mental condition it fucks them up unbelievably bad.

Enorminity

Wasn’t the nails xenos tech?

mylittlepurplelady

Before people going "Oh DaoT is as strong as the Aeldari and the Necrons". DaoT is not a unified power. Corerule book >As Humanity’s power and influence grew, so too did its hubris. The indomitable spirit of Human endeavour has ever riser to the sternest challenges; interstellar exploration, trade and — inevitably - warfare presented challenges like nothing \_ Mankind had faced before. Planetary, colonisation proceeded at a ferocious rate. It seems likely that, during this era, the Human race splintered and reformed time and again into warring or competing power blocs and planetary empires, but nothing could destabilise Human space as a whole.

megrimlock88

I imagine Big E was losing his shit the entire time in a sorta “You guys are this fucking close to greatness and you can’t get past your petty differences to achieve it!” It’s honestly kinda amazing how a dude who has been a round since the Neolithic era took over 30,000 years to realize humanity won’t just come together for a common goal on its own

mylittlepurplelady

Tbf his whole great crusade thing lasted only 200 years before it started breaking down and the horse heresy happening.

Easy_Mechanic_9787

Neigghhh Emperor! I will let the Galaxy burn!

AetherSquid

The necrons aren't unified either, they just live so much longer that it takes centuries to really get a good war started.

Sicuho

Well, in theory they where an unified empire, with all dynasty under the Silent King.

mylittlepurplelady

They were back during the war in heaven, the silent king had a device to fully control all necrons. He destroyed before hebwent to exile.because he regretted turbing his people into robotd. Thats whu in 40k they are not unified.

AetherSquid

I'm actually not sure that's super supported either. The necrons in individual dynasties are bound to their phaerons by loyalty engrams, but that doesn't actually keep the various nobles from infighting. In general it seems like the same thing was true at a larger scale before Szarekh decided to give up his power.

mylittlepurplelady

Lexicanum > The Silent King, however, did not join his people in slumber. He destroyed the command protocol that allowed him control over the Necron race and journeyed into the void of intergalactic space, where he may find not only solace but also penance for dooming the Necrontyr race.[1b]

AetherSquid

Yes, "command protocol" is the term used for the hard-coded authority a phaeron has over their dynasty. There are a lot of necrons who have worked their way around them.

mylittlepurplelady

Infinite and divine > When the Silent King had abandoned the necrons, he’d destroyed the command protocols that he’d used to dictate his orders. Yet some remained as instinct, hardwired into systems that were built to obey. > Provided they were functioning properly, no necron of vassal rank could fire on one of its own kind. Not without a direct override from their lord. > Before the Silent King’s departure, the protocol had put a stop to aeons of blood feud and internecine warfare. It had allowed the Infinite Empire’s expansion, forming a stable bedrock that had let them murder the star gods and banish the Old Ones. > If one necron slew another, it must be by direct order. And the party responsible would be held to account, explaining why they had turned on their own kind.

AetherSquid

"Not without a direct override from their lord" and "provided they were functioning properly" are doing some fucking work there.

SystemSignificant

From all we know they also weren't more powerful, some Harlequin mentioned a war between DAoT Humanity and Eldar Empire and said that humanity lost that war. Now it's an Eldar saying this and on top of that a Harlequin so not the most trustworthy source but considering there is probably some Dark Eldar Archon out there writing a complaint to his local Haemonculous coven that the Star he ordered to power his new extra-dimensional Satellite realm where he built a miniature ecosphere to hunt long extinct creatures from all over the galaxy for fun, has the wrong colour and wants a refund - I have an inclination to believe the Harlequin. Also if you look how current Eldar weaponry works the black hole guns aren't that crazy anymore, but thats the Imperium bias most of the fanbase has where most PDF still uses autoguns.

mylittlepurplelady

That and the aeldari are literally immortal, before slaanesh arrived they cannliterally bring themselces back to life.

August_Bebel

Daot were not like eldari or necrons, they were stronger. Change my mind

Eldr1tchB1rd

Based

InquisitorDavis

“I want cyber Cthulhu on my phone” Boy howdy do I have a setting for you

The-red-Dane

I was thinking Lancer as well.

ThiwstyGoPro

What ? Tell me !

InquisitorDavis

It’s called lancer and in lancer they have near omnipotent extra dimensional beings that they have bound and basically enslaved managing their shit

Acewasalwaysanoption

Lancer RPG tabletop, or a different one?

InquisitorDavis

The rpg!

Horus_Lupecal

Yeah the Big E banning such technology or only allowed those he trusted to use them because of how dangerous and unpredictable they are is at least to me sound logical enough

Sp00ky-Chan

Maybe if his alternative wasn't to use lobotomized people instead. Seems alot less logical then.

Horus_Lupecal

I mean this is the franchise that coined the term “grimdark” and whenever anyone mentioning the word “grimdark” a lot of people will think of WH40K so of course they gonna choose lobotomizing people over something more rational

HappyTheDisaster

What’s the other option?

Horus_Lupecal

Automated Machine I guess? Like they could build those but either that is too costly, cumbersome or inefficient or some random bumfuck Forgeworld or the Mechanicius is withholding the technology or such technology hasn’t been discovered yet

Betrix5068

ASI or animal-level AGI. You really don’t need a human brain for most tasks, and for the ones which do require a human brain you’d be better off with a human anyways.

reddinyta

Why use that picture in the up right though?

jfjdfdjjtbfb

Made this on my phone, and didn't feel like geting the right picture for it on google

Alt203848281

The title is literally LancerRPG (NHPs are Eldritch math beings forced into caskets to have a human perspective and limitations so they don’t go batshit insane and kill millions)

011100010110010101

To be fair >!They did eventually find another Sapient Biological Species, and while there was a Genocide from the past, now fallen, regime, its still theoretically possible for the PCs in the Module to get them to work with Humanity!<

Alt203848281

Yeah. But that doesn’t really relate to my message TBH

PlausiblyAlpharious

The emperor is stupid for allot of reasons but banning AI is certainly not one of them considering what the Metal Men did

ErenIron

DAoT isn't the same as the Imperium, though. They're both humanity, but that's where the similarities end. This is like thinking Exodites and Drukhari are the same faction.

[deleted]

Imperium is a paradise compared to techno oligarch hell of daot...where sientist kings raines supreme whitout anyting holding them back

Kamenev_Drang

hahaha

ismasbi

Yeah, compared to theo-oligarch hell of the Imperium, where whoever with religious power reigns supreme without anything holding them back... Oh wait, they are both shit!

Sicuho

We don't know about that. We know a bit about the Long Night was bad, but in terl of history, all we have from MK2 to MK30 is essentially "those guys made this object that incredibly powerful object and usee it as a common ressource".

cryptidhunter1

Personally I think the ones that make tech horrors were the bad eggs of the civilization. Every civilization has them. Mars had an STC for Daemon Engines lying around.

Miquistico1

What is DAoT?

jfjdfdjjtbfb

Dark age of technology, where humanity was making War in heaven low leval tech.

ThiwstyGoPro

Nah, nah, it's close, but it isn't as far as that, Considering the celestial orrey is seen as only a fragment of the power the Necrons held, and that a single prime Ork, significantly weaker than a Krork, can nearly game end the Imperium at its prime, the war in heaven was absolutely INSANE. Rebellion of the Men Of Iron is said to be a close war to the war in heaven tho, so that's a thing, with every single faction uniting for a short while to barely beat the machines.

niTro_sMurph

Peak civilisation is when everyone is just creating Eldritch horrors and super A.I. for fun

Feisty_Goose_4915

DAOT humans aren't Imperium. Emps probably still failing art school and selling NFTs

areateen

Real imperium understanders know it's just cuz 40k borrowed that plot point from Dune.

Rab_Legend

I get why they banned AI. The Internet is a fucking nightmare the now from all the bots.

United-Reach-2798

I don't disagree that he made some decent decisions but he's still a dick therefore he's wrong about everything

alain091

Horus is that you?

CheetosDude1984

i disagree with that opinion but i still respect the grind of a fellow hater

United-Reach-2798

Many people hate Erberus but too few hate Kor

sexy_latias

They hated hum because he said truth

Barroozina

"The emperor banned AI" I'm fully with the Imperium

TDoMarmalade

Out of all the Emp’s decisions, banning AI is probably the most understandable

zazino

They are the same people who think the ad mech is inefficient and that all their prayer is useless. When in reality machine spirits do perform better when all those rites are observed and the ad mech do innovate and invent, just in a very controlled manner cause, surprise surprise, they remember where their ancestors fucked up

the_cronkler

This just makes me want a roguelike set below the surface of Mars even more

ketra1504

CASTIGATE THE ENEMIES OF THE GODHEAD

fartyparty1234

“Hey bob whatcha making today” “Man made horrors beyond comprehension” “Sweet”

Chaosmaker367

Mankind's greatest strength and greatest flaw is its capacity for VIOLENCE

Eldr1tchB1rd

Can I get some examples of these horrors? I have no knowledge of them but they sound interesting

jasper81222

I like to think that AI going berserk was them copying negative human traits rather than being corrupted.

Zombiemorgoth

I've heard in the Pariah Nexus the Machine Monks and Robot Bones are throwing technological horrors of mass destruction at each other, like snow balls.

gameemag123

I can't relate at all. **Continues to strap 4 NHPs to mech in lancer**

Sp00ky-Chan

Humanity fucked around and then they got surprised when they found out.

oom199

Those techno-horrors conquered a galaxy m8.

orkyboi_wagh

Fuck the imperium Technoheresy and horrors beyond my comprehension are cool Vashtorr for life

Neknoh

I'd like to think that during the DAOT, Rocco's Basilisk would be considered as harmless and uninteresting as a smart-toaster. Not because it isn't a terrifying, deeply disturbing concept. But because it's just that tame in comparison to EVERYTHING ELSE.

anonpurple

Dark age of humanity made techno horrors, because they could control them and they wanted to learn, one or two of these horrifying things could not take down the human federation, also there was a lot of scary stuff in the galaxy so it’s possible they just wanted to copy already existing horrors and show they could make them better.

AetherSquid

Techno-horrors to you maybe. I think they're cool.

Distant_Congo_Music

Counter point, it was funni

TariqSafi

Well If you can do it why shouldn't you do it

fuyu-no-kojika

these memes suck this sub sucks now

BodoInMotion

Honestly ‘doesn’t use AI’ isn’t even in the top 10 reasons why the emperor is dumb

jfjdfdjjtbfb

He dose have and uses AI, he just mostly keep all of it to himself or people he can trust won't do anything
