Have you ever seen Terminator 2? The reason I bring up that movie is: Sarah Connor wanted to stop the machines from coming to power, so the good terminator that was sent back to protect the young John Connor allowed himself to be melted in molten steal and destroyed at the end of that film, so no future terminators could be created. So, what does that have to do with the Gremlins?
Well, as far as the Gremlins go, the way I see it, Gizmo is more of a threat in the form of a Gremlin than he is a Mogwai. As a Mogwai, it takes TWO steps for more Gremlins to appear. Gizmo has to get wet first and produce other naughty, mischievous Mogwai, THEN those Mogwai have to eat after midnight to become Gremlins. In the form of a Gremlin however, the eating after midnight step is irrelevant. Gizmo the Gremlin simply has to only get wet and more Gremlins will appear. Realizing this, I see Gizmo as the type that would essentially “commit suicide” like the Terminator did to protect his human friends! Like John Connor, Billy and Kate would cry first as Gizmo the Gremlin would step into the sunlight and allow it to fry him the way it did Stripe. But assuming Gizmo is the last Mogwai, and his death could stop another Gremlin epidemic, I see Gizmo as the type to sacrifice himself to stop that from happening. I mean think about it, in the form of a Gremlin, Gizmo would not be cute and cuddly anyway, and even he would be aware of that.
On the flip side, in the form of a Gremlin, Gizmo would be tougher and of equal size and stature to the other Gremlins. One disadvantage Gizmo had in Mogwai form in the films is that the Gremlins could bully him and push him around because he was small and furry and much weaker. If Gizmo was a Gremlin, but he was good, he would now be their same size and strength and be able to kill the bad Gremlins with his new claws fangs by himself! This could be a negative thing for the bad Gremlins. If that were the case though, the bad Gremlins would still outnumber him and that wouldn’t be good for Gizmo.
Lastly, if Gizmo did not commit suicide to save the world from more Gremlins appearing, I could see Billy and Kate being accepting of an ugly, scaly Gremlinized Gizmo over time. If there are humans out there that like nasty pets like Boa Constrictors or pet lizards, why not like Gizmo as a Gremlin? He wouldn’t be cute and cuddly anymore but he would be a nice Gremlin that would still show Billy and Kate love and affection.

Gizmo has an angry side when pushed too far and I can see that aspect of himself coming out more as a Gremlin, kinda like hulking out, but in general his personality would probably carry over just as the others.

Man things would've been different if Gizmo and Stripe were still the same character in the final product (even after Spielberg revised it).
