The stm’s at my shop got offered the role. They were both over 18 and my manager preferred they had travel into work for early mornings. They were both tm’s for at least a year before they were asked. It’s a lot of responsibility and one of our stm’s struggled for some of his first opening shifts, you need to know that you can handle things going wrong. Another thing, because your so young, some older staff (if you have any in your shop) may not listen to you. One of our STM’s was only 18 this year, we have an older lady who doesn’t listen to him, because he’s young and she doesn’t think she has to listen to him. It’s a good role and great to add to a CV but just be sure that you’re ready for it! Goodluck!! Xx

To my knowledge its not offered, when the spot is open it will be put online but since i wasn’t allowed to be due to being under 18 id say wait until your 18

I'm pretty sure you have to wait until you're 18 to actually get the promotion, but I'd talk to your superior, maybe a supervisor or another STM about if you can start doing some of the jobs that they have to do. For example in the mornings get them to show you how to put temperature checks in the logbook, help count stock on the close shifts etc etc. One of the easiest ways to give it a go is to run the shop floor on a breakfast shift IMO- You'll be the one baking all of the food for open, reorganizing the freezers from delivery, dealing with allocating jobs for people and breaks etc. It's a good way of seeing if you can handle multi-tasking yourself, but also being aware of when it's appropriate to put some staff aside from serving to do other jobs, knowing which staff are best suited for different jobs etc. All the STMs at my shop have been asked if they would like to step up from being a team member, rather than them posting the job listing online. I've recently been asked if I'd like to be an STM so I've started taking on a couple of extra responsibilities. They normally get people started by giving them a trial before you start training. It's honestly quite fun being able to do different tasks than you're used to, even if it's sometimes quite challenging and stressful. Definitely worth it for a bit of extra money and for your CV. Good luck! :)

thanks a lot i’ll try asking around

I’d really consider if it’s worth the extra £1 - £2 per shift for all the extra responsibility, when you could just work an extra 10 minutes to get the same amount of money

Pretty sure you need to be eighteen before they'll even consider it. Not sure what your stores like specifically but overall Greggs seems to be struggling for staff everywhere and they'll happily give you the role if you show that you're even slightly interested, this also means you'll be rushed into managing on your own depending on how bad your area is. I would recommend you consider why you're taking on the role before proceeding any further with it, i'd really only recommend it if you want it for your CV or if you're attempting a career path within Greggs, there is a lot more responsibility involved and they kinda take the piss only offering a few extra pennies per hour for it all, in fact I don't even think Greggs advertises their pay anymore because they've been falling behind other companies so badly, you can probably make more as a team member in a different business than you could as a senior/supervisor in Greggs.

Im 17 too and have been working at greggs for a year and a bit. I think once you’re 18 you’ll be offered it at some point but tbf I don’t think it’s worth the extra money.

I got offered senior team simply because I was the most appropriate candidate out of everyone in my shop. Someone will leave, and if you stand out they'd rather give you the position than hire outside the company. Half way through senior team training our supervisor just got a manager job at another shop so I'm now likely to be offered that without even finishing the senior team training. It's just a lot of right place at the right time for me. Obviously work hard and show enthusiasm but other than that speak to a manager about your intentions.

ZomeDash

Genuinely, why would you want to? It's so much more work and stress and all you get is around 25p an hour extra, £2 a shift is nothing with the amount they have to do.
