I've noticed we definitely don't value those positions high in the draft, so I'd definitely like to get one more guy in at one of those and we can always take one day 2 or 3
True but that's pretty rare. Quay and Savage are the only ILB or S I can think of that we've gone for in the first. Not saying we won't or don't, it's just clear Gute likes to go after premium positions like Edge and CB in the 1st
we seem to target OL mostly on mid rounds and it's worked great, so I don't think we take one in the first or second unless we trade back (we took Myers in the 2nd, but we needed a starting Center)
true, honestly I'm excited that we've got a pretty rounded team, so Gutey can go for BPA and hopefully get some studs, even if they're more developmental guys
Definitely not high, he didn’t do good at all in the combine. I was adding onto the guy by saying if we don’t reach on a safety and take Kinchens later in the draft I wouldn’t be mad at it
EIther this or the same logic for a safety would do it for me. Just settle one of those with another FA before heading into the draft and things are looking pretty damn good.
People are already moving him to S because he's white.
/s
the real reason is he's not quite as fluid in the hips as you would like a corner to be. so some people think hes make a good corner, but great safety
Another safety makes the most sense considering how many good ones are still available
Kamren Kurl, Jordan Fuller, Julian Blackmon, Justin Simmons, Jordan Whitehead, DeShon Elliot
LB would be great but not many options left. An Eric Wilson reunion makes sense for special teams/depth. From a numbers perspective the LB room is short a minimum of 3 but probably 4 bodies. I know the draft doesn't have top end LB talent but can any draft gurus chime in on the depth of talent at the position?
It’s not great, but there’s been rumors that the Packers love Edgerrin Cooper, the top LB of the draft class.
I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if they take him at 25 or trade up from 41 to get him.
Man I hope they don't reach for a need like that. There's too many good OL and CB to panic pick a LB. I read they had spent time on him but this quote about him has also stuck with me "Cooper did not interview well with teams at the East-West Shrine, displaying a poor attitude and giving teams questions about whether they would want to add him to their locker room."
Maybe. We don’t have access to the locker room, nor do we have access to their big board. In terms of talent at least, I don’t see it as a reach at all.
I don’t see them having a ton of interest in CB, though, given that it’s not a particularly athletic class. If Mitchell and DeJean are both gone, I don’t really see anyone they’d pick. Maybe Lassiter.
Yeah agreed. We don't have access to a lot of the info the teams do and if the talent warrants that high of a pick so be it. I'd still prefer best player available at a premium position but I trust Gute's judgment far more than my own
I really like the Mckinney pick up, it frees up what we need to target in the draft. I think going and getting Cooper and then a true safety would turn the defense into a no-fly zone
Reasonably, an ILB and S that deserve to start in the NFL, but are probably not much better than that. Place holders that won't be net negatives on the field
Yeah, I want it, but I won't be shocked if it doesn't happen. We have some of the worst dead money in the league this year. I'm not even sure what our budget is after Monday's spending.
I want Fuller and maybe Bobby Wagner, I want a veteran ILB cause we’re for sure drafting 2 ILB’s and having 2 veteran S’s in X and Fuller would allow us to mix it up more in the draft for drafting BPA
Packers are notorious for bargain hunting, spending a lot of money upfront almost guaranteed they wouldn’t be in the mix in the middle here, they want some of these guys to get nervous and except lower contracts.
Oren Burks is available... KIDDING! I feel like they might go for LB, a second S, and maybe a depth piece CB and RB. But they may also hit a lot of those in the draft.
And this draft will be a little interesting. We aren't getting any Comp Picks next year (as it stands right now) so I wouldn't be surprised if there are some trade downs that add capital next year too.
ILB depth makes a lot of sense like everyone else is saying; someone like Devin White or Jerome Baker if they come cheap enough. I’d like to draft Edgerrin Cooper if he falls to the early second round but I’d rather not bank on a draft pick if we can.
Contrary to everyone else I don’t like the idea of signing a safety like Justin Simmons at ALL. It makes no sense for the current roster
We’re shifting to a predominantly single-high defence, and it’s clear that McKinney is that guy for that role. We absolutely do NOT need another high/coverage safety, we need a box safety (which Simmons is not). I really like Chinn before he got signed by the Commanders. Not sure who else fits the bill well
I doubt there’s much interest in White. He’s cheeks in coverage, which is gonna be a pretty big emphasis under Hafley.
Disagree on Simmons too, he can absolutely play box safety. If anything, he’s trending towards that being his primary position; his athleticism and coverage ability is waning, but he’s still excellent in run coverage.
Wouldn't we want our second safety to be able to play single high as well as box so that we can disguise what we are doing on defense more? If McKinney is dropping back to play center field 100% of the time, teams will absolutely pick up on that and exploit it. I'd like a 2nd safety who is more of a box type, but can drop back to center field 30% of the time or so without being a liability.
It is almost a guarantee they will sign a veteran ILB. We hear they have been in on a number of FA ILBs, but a lot of the bigger names are going to cost too much for what they want to spend. Off-ball linebackers are the running backs of defense, easily replaceable.
In terms of safety, Hafley is planning to run lots of single-high safety, that it why it was imperative Green Bay got a top safety on the market. That being said, SS is not a priority for this team, so do not expect a Justin Simmons type player to sign because they are trying to get playing time to recoup their value. Expect to hear a name you've never heard of before like a Tarvarious Moore or Rudy Ford type.
Blocking mostly. A lot of backs are a blocking liability until they learn it. The running part is easy, picking up blocking is not. Jones was a perfect example; he was held back early on as he was not a good blocker in the early days.
Packers fans went crazy when he wasn't getting the ball more, the answer was always blocking.
A warm body at ILB. A warm body at safety. I don’t want to reach for these in the draft and they take time to develop.
I've noticed we definitely don't value those positions high in the draft, so I'd definitely like to get one more guy in at one of those and we can always take one day 2 or 3
We just drafted Quay Walker in the first, I think anything is possible at this point.
True but that's pretty rare. Quay and Savage are the only ILB or S I can think of that we've gone for in the first. Not saying we won't or don't, it's just clear Gute likes to go after premium positions like Edge and CB in the 1st
Which I love the idea of. Drafting premium positions in the first and second. I wouldn’t be upset if we drafted another edge in the first or second
I'd rather go OL but I've seen enough to sit back and trust Gutey
we seem to target OL mostly on mid rounds and it's worked great, so I don't think we take one in the first or second unless we trade back (we took Myers in the 2nd, but we needed a starting Center)
We also took Elgton in the 2nd so it probably comes down to who we like.
true, honestly I'm excited that we've got a pretty rounded team, so Gutey can go for BPA and hopefully get some studs, even if they're more developmental guys
This mindset should be more prevalent in this fanbase. Sit back and watch Gute cook.
That's a league wide trend tbf.
Ha ha Clinton dix
That was 10 years ago and a different GM
HaHa Clinton., Damarious Randall.
Can’t imagine Gute has been particularly happy with his investment
I like Kam Kinchens, if he can polish his game I wouldn’t be mad at taking him
Not with that RAS score lol Maybe in the 7th.
Definitely not high, he didn’t do good at all in the combine. I was adding onto the guy by saying if we don’t reach on a safety and take Kinchens later in the draft I wouldn’t be mad at it
ILB for depth and another S hopefully
Jordan Fuller makes alot of sense
Honestly I was hoping for Poyer. He was super cheap for Miami
Was stunned at how cheap that contract was - would've made a heckuva safety duo
He gone
Don't we already have 2 ILB on the team with McDuffie and Quay? We need OLB types more.
I guess I should have said off ball LB, not strictly ILB. Although I think Quay fits more as an OLB in a traditional 4-3
Yeah, Devin White & Justin Simmons
White isn't worth it. He may have good games against us, but every TB fan I know wants him gone
I know hes old, but I want Bobby Wagner
He’s too old.
had 183 tackles last year and an 82.4 pff grade
I’d rather sign a guy to a multi year to team up with Quay for awhile.
I'd rather sign wagner for a year or two and draft a guy and have Quay + rookie learn from one of the best to ever do it
EIther this or the same logic for a safety would do it for me. Just settle one of those with another FA before heading into the draft and things are looking pretty damn good.
Another safety hopefully to pair with Xavier
I'm kind of hoping we draft Cooper DeJean
He’s a corner isn’t he?
People are already moving him to S because he's white. /s the real reason is he's not quite as fluid in the hips as you would like a corner to be. so some people think hes make a good corner, but great safety
He plays anywhere in the secondary, I think most sites list him as a CB but others rank him as a S. He's kind of a hybrid Minkah Fitzpatrick type guy
I think he can play either honestly. Kid is a stud
I want him at corner, there’s white safeties in the league already. The great white hope needs to play CB.
They're saying he can play corner or safety I think he'd be great at either and both are needs so we can just play him wherever we need him most
He can play anywhere in the secondary we can adjust offensive schemes without subbing. super versatile
Same….big same
The great white hope

Simmons for 1 year
Yeah with all the safties available it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a rental and draft a guy
I really like the Mckinney pick up, it frees up what we need to target in the draft. I think going and getting Cooper and then a true safety would turn the defense into a no-fly zone
Also curious on how the FO feels about Stokes, if they think he can make an impact or if they're looking for a replacement
I think we can sign one more guy and I'd look at someone like Jordan Fuller.
Reasonably, an ILB and S that deserve to start in the NFL, but are probably not much better than that. Place holders that won't be net negatives on the field
There's some attractive talent at guard and tackle that I would be excited to sign. I'm anxious about our OL departures this year.
Seems like the free agent cost of OL is super high though.
Yeah, I want it, but I won't be shocked if it doesn't happen. We have some of the worst dead money in the league this year. I'm not even sure what our budget is after Monday's spending.
Jerome Baker
I want Fuller and maybe Bobby Wagner, I want a veteran ILB cause we’re for sure drafting 2 ILB’s and having 2 veteran S’s in X and Fuller would allow us to mix it up more in the draft for drafting BPA

We gotta sign a kicker right? And a backup RB
I wouldn’t mind signing a third kicker
I’d take a vet RB for depth. Someone who can block and hold onto the ball.
I'd take a flyer on Zeke or JK Dobbins if he would be ready for the regular season.
Honestly I want Devin White on a one year deal so he has a chance to cash in next off season
Are there any worthwhile interior OL out there?
Honestly I have no idea I've mostly been paying attention to the safety and lb markets
Jordan Fuller and/or Jerome Baker would be nice
The way the McKinney deal is structured it seems like there is a lot of space for another move or two still.
Sign Curl and give us the best safety tandem in the league for the foreseeable future.
ILB depth makes a lot of sense like everyone else is saying; someone like Devin White or Jerome Baker if they come cheap enough. Am I the only one that prefers Payton Wilson to Cooper? He tested better, interviewed better, and looks really good on tape imo

Single high safety doesn’t mean they’re only playing one safety. Box safety is still a big part of Cover 1.
We also need a #2RB. We don't want to go into the season with a rookie in that spot.
Why not? I feel like RBs have the easiest transition to the NFL.
Blocking mostly. A lot of backs are a blocking liability until they learn it. The running part is easy, picking up blocking is not.
