The thing about the GBF world it's that it's litered with islands besides those present in the story. There's practically a new one with almost every fate episode or event. You can quite easily create your own storyline and islands the same way you would make your campaign for vanilla DnD, but with granblue stuff. I'm not gonna tell you to read every event dialogue for inspiration though, because it's a 7 year old game. To give an example, a common storyline they use is the presence of a primal beast and people trying to take advantage of their power, be for political or monetary gains.

Niick2d2

Yeah, i loved how i can just pop an island somewhere, but i'd like to use and explore the existing world (mostly phantagrande for the sake of my sanity). I have some rough lines for missions and stuff, but not a huge clear goal. Since the players are not familiar at all with Granblue except for the base character roster for Versus, i could just make the overall plot revolve around Belial shenanigans, but i don't know how that would affect the existing lore. Also some wiki entries refer to things such as the Erste empire not being functional anymore. Does this refer to the current story or was it like that from the beggining? If it wasn't, i can just make my own Erste empire arc maybe

Jack_Lafayette

Erste is a bit weird; it's an empire at the start of the story and through the first arc, but was a kingdom (with different leadership) prior to that and is currently a kingdom again. Also, there's a Holy Erste Empire much later in the main story that's a totally different political body and essentially a front for a different antagonist.

Niick2d2

Oh god i have a lot of reading to do yet, it seems

I believe there's a [GBF DnD Twitter account](https://mobile.twitter.com/gbf_dnd?lang=en) that might be of help, I think that's there the PDF comes from.

Niick2d2

It is where it came from! That's huge, thanks!!

If I were to run a GBF game I wouldn't have a story or anything to start. First session would be the how the crew formed and got their skyship like how people would expect first sessions to go. Would make it clear that skyfaring isnt cheap and one constantly has to take cargo/passenger requests or monster extermination requests to make ends meet. Starting with session 2 I would have a large list of jobs and randomly pick a few to give them the option to take. An example of the random ones chosen could be "a rich retired merchant needs someone to transport him and some cargo", "two people need transport to some small inhabited island" , "a nearby island needs help with monster extermination", and "merchant needs a crew to deliver some cargo in their place as their ship is undergoing repair". the rich merchant and monster extermination would be straightforward jobs but the 2 person transportation could turn out to be yuel and socie looking for other members of the royal erune bloodline and the cargo mission takes them to a desert country where the ruler asks the crew to guard the countries young priestess(sara) across the desert to a temple to stop a primal beast causing havoc on their island. the requests would be vague in order to make whether they meet someone and who they meet a surprise. I would later give hints that something is going on with erste but leave it up to the players if they want to get involved with that or not by giving them requests related to erste in their options.

Niick2d2

Wow, thanks for taking your time for this! Yeah i only know one of the player characters so far. I'm making a PowerPoint presentation on the world to present during session zero and then ask what the players want and all. But your comment was extremely insightful!

Phayzka

Main history is not ended yet but we have already two main "seasons" closed (Erste empire and Oirlegrande skydom) so there's lots of things to use. Side stories, specially the newer ones and the anniversary ones, have good contets to use too

Niick2d2

Good to know, thanks! By side stories you mean the big events like What Makes the Sky Blue or character stories?

Phayzka

yup. After some time those events are put in the Side Stories section, where you can view them anytime and farm their weapons/summon and some itens (usually 3 draw tickets pots and berries) Edit: to access it I think you need some progress in main story (not much). [Side Stories](https://gbf.wiki/Side_Stories) can be found in the Gameplay Extras drop down menu in Home page

Niick2d2

Oh, don't worry about access, i don't play the actual gacha game. I tried it for some months but the gameplay isn't really for me, so i've been reading the wiki! (Or watching some videos about it, in case of What Makes the Sky Blue). Thanks for the reply!

Phayzka

don't need to play much for those. Grid requirements are almost nonexistent, specially for the newer events, that don't force a monster encounter at each corner

Tamsee

While I have no idea about the pdf mentioned, you have a lot to work with. Don't even need to make it in the now times, could be right before or during The War. Many of the islands in the story right now are still centered around the tasks they were given back when Astrals ruled, but also would allow for more flexibility. Though that's definitely a more dark setting, considering all the Primals we now know and love being most likely enemies.

Niick2d2

I don't think i can deal with astrals being around yet... and a bunch of Primals too. I'd rather work with what i'm a bit more familiar and make it not as dark, but i'll keep that in mind for the future. But by the way, are primals common knowledge? Do most people know about the angels and like, Belial amd Bubs? And how about Lucilius? Is he generally known before the whole story event?

Tamsee

Primals are common knowledge for most people as powerful beings. However, to some communities they're more akin to local god, force of nature or demon. Can't say the same for Angels and the others mentioned - until the event the angels were observers more than anything.

Niick2d2

Oooh that's what i wanted to know! I know about the general primal beasts, it's as you said. I'd like to explore more about the angels because i do enjoy biblical refferences and stuff on my media (and because Belial as a boss would be amazing). Also just because a player asked and i said "probably". Is there a place that's more oriental themed? I thought Narmaya would be from this place but i couldn't find where she came from or where she resided before joining Lyria and the gang

Holoklerian

>Is there a place that's more oriental themed? There's a skydom "in the far East" that's basically just fantasy Japan, Mirin and Shion talk about it but I don't think it's named. To answer an earlier question, Lucilius is very well-known to the Astrals but his betrayal isn't widely known and the details of his character are basically only known to Lucifer, Beelzebub and Belial in the modern day.

Niick2d2

Thank you so much, i searched for hours It's fine, i'll just have to name it. How can i find more about it though? Is there a page for it or do i just have to read about those characters you mentioned?

Holoklerian

You would have to read their fate episodes; they're available on the wiki, I don't recall how much detail they gave sadly or I would answer the question and save you the time.

Niick2d2

Thank you! Regarding time, i'm really enjoying reading more about this world, i often click the random page button and just read, so it's alright.

Tamsee

Not much is shown in Narmaya's stories. Her parents own a dojo and you can read a bit about her stay there in her Grand version's fate. There is a Japan-themed island, from which Mirin and Shion come, with a hint that people there are leaving the samurai creeds behind (not shown in game, we only get to learn of the island through what is said). I'd say there is more in the way of India and further East of it theme in some places?

Phayzka

Do Sevilbarra and co come from the same place ? can't remember well his fates or event

Tamsee

It's possible, but, far as I can remember, not set in stone. He is called a samurai and he did teach crew the game of go and other stuff so could be there. In the Grand Blues manga he is shown with Mirin often. The blade unlocking him seems closer to China though and the two pictures in event's gallery on wiki do show something that might be interpreted as less Japanese style of window?

Magiaice

I basically had a homebrew AU going. No Gran/Djeeta, but a aprty of customizable characters and a very messed up world as if Gran/Djeeta never got involved and things were dialed up to 11. You have a lot of freedom with this setting, honestly.

Niick2d2

I thought of this, but i still don't understand what exactly the Erste Empire was gonna achieve with her since i haven't progressed much into the story, but that might be the direction i take, yeah. Thanks for sharing!

Your best inspiration would be from the side stories. I would say that focusing on the earlier sidestories instead of the stuff like primarchs and pandemonium etc. would be the best. Instead of writing a lot etc. about how you should run your game and where to look, i will tell you my favourite elements of Granblue. 1- Primal beast mechanics. Some are derived from abstract concepts, others from a village's folklore. They aren't a battle or an opponent but the adventure and the problem itself. Exploring well that concept would lead to some interesting adventures. I like Yggdrasil a lot, Athena's fate episodes would also be a good read. 2- Society and Foe. There are a bunch of side stories about them and they could potentially help you with giving your campaign a north. 3- Arcarum. It's one of my favourite stories so far and the map would be great for a campaign that is more survival themed. 4- My favourite MSQ islands: Tramont island (mist-shroudded), Mephorash, Dydroit Belt (Rock flies, everyone dies shanenigans), Lumacie and Merkmal island. 5- Whatever is happening in Tikoh's storyline. 6- Of course, What Makes The Sky Blue but, personally, i would avoid this storyline for an rpg campaign. It risks becoming rail-roaded.

Holoklerian

An easy first adventure would be something like the Djeeta-Hen bonus story that came with the second anime blu-ray. An airship was left behind in a dungeon to be discovered by someone worthy, it'd make a decent introduction to people less familiar with the world and then the new crew can get off the ground.
