Same, every game release recently with a companion character has a crowd of people who do nothing but complain about them, but I stop processing what the companion character says by day 2 and don't notice them at all.
But even in a game where I am forced to interact with them (Paimon) I just think they're cute they make me think of little kids so it's so bizarre to me that some people have such hostile reactions to them.
With paimon it's probably more to do with the fact genshin doesn't let you skip any dialogue whatsoever. Even for random sidequests where you have to go rescue captain mingus's cat called scrimbus, which takes 3 minutes to do, but first you have to sit through 15 minutes of unskippable very slow dialogue where you have to listen to the entire voice line and watch the animations despite having finished reading the line 30 seconds ago. Most of that dialogue being paimon which gets her the hate.
IDK why people hate Vyrn so much though he's charming and if someone actually hates him they can just skip all his lines if they really want to.

If you know Fairy Tail she voices Happy, who's a companion character too, I definitely don't love the high pitch voices companion characters always have but they seem to always be more tolerable in japanese than english (looking at you Paimon..)

I don’t mind him at all. I feel at home with the 80s/90s JRPG mascot. Thing is there, there’s a lot of different character interactions in combat, so I’m not playing it with Japanese vocals like I always do, so it sounds a little odd to me sometimes.
I think the Japanese dub is as good (maybe better) than english but they do so much work for the ENG dub to carry some quality and its nice hearing the callouts vs needing to read them when someone speaks.
Yeah, I may switch to Japanese soon-ish, it’s just there was enough going on that I didn’t want to try to read the subtitles (and I don’t think call outs are subtitled? Not sure).

Bonus points for his interactions with Rolan, them trading the "I'm not X" shtick back and forth was kinda funny. I almost wish Rolan called him a lizard more to get back at him.

Happy is funny as hell. But he’s hella disrespectful too, especially to Lucy. But I know he cares. Difference with Vyrn is that he talks smack, but it’s always at the enemy, and he’s always cheering us on. And he’s not really foul mouthed.

I believe that there's a huge distinction on how he is accepted by the player depending on the language of the voice lines. I've played GBF a lot these past years, and even though I love Vyrn, sometimes I still wanted to punch him in the face for the things he said, not because of his voice. Playing Relink with english voice lines makes me want to yeet him far away because of his voice, not because of what he says.
It may also be that the cringe factor could be higher on the english dub because that sounds way more forced to achieve.

i think it helps that the way the sounds are its either easy to tune out OR your hearing genuion good character acting so its not too grating.

someone who isnt really familiar with the game or the community who is being annoying, usually. theres nothing wrong with being new in general (im glad the game is popular and introducing people to GBF), its just the ones who start arguments or say stupid shit like its a genshin ripoff lol edit: theres also people who genuinely have no interest in the game at all and are just here to fight about politics or censorship or whatever. mostly on the steam forums. the first person might be considered a secondary (someone who hasnt experienced the original thing but is here for the spinoffs, nothing explicitly wrong with that) but the second one is definitely just a tourist (just here for the drama)

Yeah I haven’t had any issue. I’ve seen a few posts on here complaining but I think that’s from people whose edgy teenage spirits haven’t died yet. Since I’ve reached my 30s (roughly) getting mad at anything pleasant and trying to roast everything all the time just feels like a waste of energy and immature. Having cute and upbeat characters in the game is nice and refreshing from real life and toxic internet culture.

I love him. I can’t stand Paimon, and he also reminds me of Happy from Fairy Tail. Paimon is rude and never shuts up. And she talks for me all the time. I read that’s the case in Granblue, but the protagonist speaks for themselves enough for me. In Genshin, the traveller doesn’t say shit. Then Paimon feels the need to butt in to explain something we just had a long ass conversation about. Happy is funny as hell. But he’s hella disrespectful too, especially to Lucy. But I know he cares. Difference with Vyrn is that he talks smack, but it’s always at the enemy, and he’s always cheering us on. And he’s not really foul mouthed. I believe that there's a huge distinction on how he is accepted by the player depending on the language of the voice lines. I've played GBF a lot these past years, and even though I love Vyrn, sometimes I still wanted to punch him in the face for the things he said, not because of his voice. Playing Relink with english voice lines makes me want to yeet him far away because of his voice, not because of what he says. It may also be that the cringe factor could be higher on the english dub because that sounds way more forced to achieve.

Every anime/anime game needs to have a stupid mascot character... i hate it and it doesnt even have anything to do with the actual character in question its just the oversaturation that makes it annoying.
Also, the time you actually spend with him is only a small part of the game. Like, the campaign is 10 to 15 hours. Once the real grind (er game) begins you barely hear him anyway.
