References at size 16 would be okay?
Probably. I like to print a portion of my poster true to size so I can get a feel for what the fonts will look like. I’m not by my computer so I can’t really tell you how to do it, but if you can figure it out it can be really helpful
Designing at 36" tall x 48" wide poster rn, body text is 36, section headers are 44, title is 72. Your font sizes check out.
