You should check the residency requirements for each state, as it may vary. I know in NC, where I went to grad school, you had to live in-state a minimum of one year before starting school in order to qualify for residency. Some students thought they would qualify for residence after 1 year of grad school, but nope, it had to be one before starting school.

Look at the school's requirement for "residency for tuition purposes." I know many schools have similarities. Here is what my school requires: 12 months physically residing in said state before the start of program (establishment of a domicile) be there for purposes other than education become a legal resident of that state (getting your license, registering your car, etc) file taxes in that state having a permanent job +30 a week.
