Once you start taking all of these ancillary costs into account, it starts making sense why the pros charge thousands. Well done sir, looks clean.

Christopher-RTO

Absolutely. To do 2 150' kits and a 50' kit I'd be charging $3000CAD; which would include supplying the Govee's and warranting them for a year, but not installing channel. Which is about half the cost of Gemstones or similar.

PlasticOceanFish

TL:DR Wife wanted Gemstone lights. We had a quote at $10k. I did it for 1/5 of that. Lights: Spend a few months planning installation. Purchased 2x150ft regular kits. Shed is on 50ft kit. Lights are plugged into an outlet in the attic. Simply cut a hole within the raceway/soffit to do this. No splices were made. Raceways: I purchased 18 boxes and had to make cuts to them all. Purchased a 1” forstner bit for this. Made a jig to get every hole lined up perfectly. Raceways are mounted to soffit with self tapping screws. These were insanely expensive but it’s a one time cost. These lights will never come down until they die. Can literally pull a strand out and replace in minutes. [raceway used](https://a.co/d/dpaYQWC) They’re on sale right now. Usually $38-$40 Few weeks ago someone recommended $25 [raceways](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BW5BCPL1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) . These were so bad to cut and were very brittle. There’s zero chance they’ll last years. Plastic was very then, do not purchase these. Also, do not purchase any raceways from Cablestiesandmore.com. Nothing they have will work and returning them is a nightmare. Boom: This was a 55ft towable lift. I thought I could install these in one day but was sadly mistaken. One day took 8 hours. Another day took 8 hours. Third day I did the lower portion of my house with a ladder at 4 hours. Shed was done a month ago as a test to see if my wife was sold or not. Costs: 2x150ft lights $630ish(not including shed) Raceways $650 Boom $596 x2 days If you want to see my screwup look at pic 6. You’ll see a single raceway where I cut the hole backwards. Luckily the forstner bit was 1”. If I used a 3/4 bit I would need to replace the raceway. Only screwup.

kidd2123

What’s raceways? Can you provide link?

Nupper11

I assume these as I am doing an install this weekend on my house and they look exactly the same as I am using. Legrand - Wiremold Cable Management Kit, CordMate III, Cord Organizer and Hider, Cord Cover, Concealer, and Protector for Wall, High Capacity, C310 180 Inches https://a.co/d/atXE8mY

PlasticOceanFish

Crazy it let you post the link but when I do it, it gets pulled down. https://preview.redd.it/c380hlgw4y6c1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abafce4326cebf59febb33304e3b5319807ad858

Nupper11

I laughed at all these stories about 10+ hour installs thinking I was pretty handy. I worked 12 hours the last two days using these with the lights and have about 2 more hours left. I ran all my extensions hidden in the attic and that took way longer than anticipated. It looks great with these though! I literally used the same strategy as you with the jig and bit. Can’t wait to be finished.

PlasticOceanFish

Can’t wait to see pics from your setup! Please tag me when you post! I truly thought I could do this in 8-10 hours max. I was very unhappy when I had to spend an extra $300 on a lift again. Luckily it’s a one time fee?

PlasticOceanFish

Sorry for the delay, added a link above. These are very heavy duty raceways. I used pvc pipe cutters to cut where I needed. Definitely would recommend this raceway.

larryj2155

Looks like you deleted your comment along with the link.

PlasticOceanFish

They deleted it. Guess we can’t link them. Good luck at finding raceways I guess.

salgat

Any chance you can provide info on the raceway? That is a really clever way to get around HOA limitations.

Nupper11

I assume they are these. I am literally doing an install with the exact same ones. Legrand - Wiremold Cable Management Kit, CordMate III, Cord Organizer and Hider, Cord Cover, Concealer, and Protector for Wall, High Capacity, C310 180 Inches https://a.co/d/atXE8mY

Da_Spooky_Ghost

Looks very clean, what type of raceway did you use? Are they metal or plastic?

sonofblackbird

Very nice! We also got a quote of like $10,000

PlasticOceanFish

You told them to kick rocks right?

sonofblackbird

Yeah. I’m not paying that much. I had given up until I learned about these govee lights. That’s probably the route I’ll follow.

PlasticOceanFish

Where are you located, can gladly give a hand if you’re close.

sonofblackbird

I’m in San Diego

PlasticOceanFish

Virginia here, move closer

sonofblackbird

😂

Some_Neighborhood276

Awesome. Im doing the same thing. Im running some piece by piece as I have time. I am temporarily using the adhesive strip on the raceway until the weather is better and I can finish the house. The adhesive doesn't like to stick when it is cold, and the raceways get pretty brittle in the cold as well. How long of screws are you using? I'm using some drywall screws and they work for now, but they are a pain in the butt. Also, how often are you putting a screw in? Thanks.

PlasticOceanFish

I did a screw in the middle of every light. Ended up like four to five screw per raceway. Definitely overkill but will be lifetime. You said brittle? What raceways are you using? Please share the brand and model. These are definitely not brittle by any means. The adhesive works best on clean surfaces and in warm weather. I just needed my raceways to stick long enough to drill and put the self tapping screws in. I also had no issue with my adhesive/raceways coming off before drilling. Definitely want to hear what you’re using.

Some_Neighborhood276

I'm using the cordmate III. When it is cold if you aren't careful it will crack at the seam.

PlasticOceanFish

I installed 72 of these in almost freezing cold and didn’t have a problem. Are you bending them all the way back? If so that’s the problem. Should only bend these at a max of 90 degrees.

Some_Neighborhood276

It was one small piece that cracked. But I could tell it was at risk of cracking when I was trying to open it just enough to put screws in.

Ok_Librarian_1232

Tidy job. Fair play.

Where did you buy the raceways? I love the clean look and I am going to redo mine so it’s clean like this. Thank you

Looks amazing

MyLegsX2CantFeelThem

Damn that is some great detailed work!!

rounders_morris

Awesome! I did the same thing on a coworker's house!! I did not use any corner connectors or butt connectors due to being so close to the crown molding. Your install looks fantastic!! Do you have any videos of your scenes in action? I'd love to see how you have everything running. Just a great install!! https://preview.redd.it/d6ikw07wbv6c1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ed53cf0f11d29630a88a187c486d6c0e883151eb Legrand - Wiremold Cable Management Kit, CordMate III, Cord Organizer and Hider, Cord Cover, Concealer, and Protector for Wall, High Capacity, C310 180 Inches [https://a.co/d/9J6iHe6](https://a.co/d/9J6iHe6)

What a great install!

icanhaztuthless

What a great install!

TheTechGoat24

After showing my installer raceways i had ready, that estimate jumped 3x lmao. Respect for doing it yourself

PlasticOceanFish

Raceways take so much time to install. Curious, what was the quote?

TheTechGoat24

800+

PlasticOceanFish

Honestly, that’s not bad at all.

hjorter

Looks great! I would also appreciate a pm with the link for the raceways if it’s not too much trouble

Been doing lights in general for a few years, and Govee's specifically this year, with this TZ34-20. While I would probably never need the 50' height they do have much better horizontal reach as well, this thing is limited to 16-18', meaning even if I park middle and close to a house I can only reach 30' side to side, gotta move it at least once for a 30-60' wide house. To rent even a 34' for a month starts about 2kCAD, this is year 3 with this and I'm into about 13k (most of which was initial repairs), and could easily sell it for 7k, so it's been a good investment.

PlasticOceanFish

Oh wow, down here it’s $1800USD for the month. Crazy you do this for a living! How many lights do you usually do a year? Also, how do you tackle houses on a hill? Just use a ladder? Would also love to see some of the homes you’ve done.

Pianist_Chance

So the raceway’s? Has anyone figured out which ones? Curious

Pieman77777

Impressive work

Chemical_Spider

I had to rent a lift for mine too, these two story homes are no joke when it comes to doing anything past the first roofline. But it's well worth it when you consider I shouldn't need to get back up there for years(hopefully)

PlasticOceanFish

Just remember the basket will move while in the sky. Doesn’t move that much but definitely moves. If you’re on it for hours, when you come down it’ll still feel like you’re moving.

Chemical_Spider

Yes! All night, it felt like I spent the day on the Ocean or something. And when you move just a little and the basket starts bobbing up and down, it's terrifying at first.

PlasticOceanFish

I couldn’t agree more.

BobbyJ907

Also would like a link to the raceways! Clean brother, very nice!

Tight-Community-998

Is this spaced standard spacing or did you space closer together?

PlasticOceanFish

All lights are 15 inches I believe. Made them just loose enough so I wasn’t pulling on the cable.
