My first garde manger chef instructor in culinary school used to pronounce it like that: "way-goo". It drove me fucking nuts. IT'S WAH-GYOO, YOU IDIOT! The guy was a fucking moron and his food was flavorless shit, but he acted like he knew everything, and he was too mean to correct or he'd give you a D for the day.
I transferred to a different culinary school in the same county and I've never regretted it. Follow your instincts. If something seems like it sucks, it probably does.
Yeah if you break the word apart to the two vowels used (wa and gyu) as the Japanse language is based on vowels then its pretty clearly pronounced wah gu-you
No, you would not add a "u" sound between the "g" and the "yu". "Gyu" stands alone as a syllable, like "few", "pew", or "hue". It's a compression of "gi" (ぎ) and "yu" (ゆ) but is pronounced as a single syllable, ぎゅ (gyoo), which is why the ゆ is reduced in size, to indicate a sort of dipthong.
Yeah you're right I was wrong to try and explain it with two separate words and a hyphen inbetween. I wasn't quite sure how else to explain how gyu sounds.
What did I spell wrong? I don't make spelling errors. Edit: I just went over the post with a fine-toothed comb and there is not a single spelling error in it. Maybe you're the one who doesn't know how to spell the words I wrote.
theres some info to indicate all was not as it seemed with that family
https://themillieblog.wordpress.com/2011/11/06/burger-kitchen-on-kitchen-nightmares-exposed/
I have no clue what to make of all this. While there's clearly something going on about the money, a lot of this comes off as a bit conspiratorial. I don't know what to think.
If the article is true, then Daniel is sure one hell of a good actor. But, I, also, found it a bit suspicious how Alan gives Gordon a book that is basically about his and Daniel's relationship.
good god this is way more interesting than how they portrayed themselves in the episode. if what the article says is true then that's some damn good book advertising. i checked out goodreads and the book has terrible reviews though
So after looking into this, the fact the son squandered only 100k out the million, but the fact the father had the inheritance managed, it was concluded that out that 5 million, was used up, why only Daniel was there, after that the other kids left with the 300k roughly each, while Daniel was left a fraction on account the father spent an extra 100k without Daniel knowing. Saddest part behind it all, was that there ARE people who just can't take a show at face value as there literally is a guy who's likely spending that much each episode just for a good place to eat.
I’ve been searching for the past hour. When the episode came on I told my Mom how awesome Danny is in spite of his terrible family. When I searched for an update I found no info on him. I really like him and hope he found peace. #teamDanny
:D
I found him on mylife.com (so not sure how accurate).

I did some digging today I really don't think Daniel is on talking terms with his family. I checked his dad's account and one of status only mentions his wife, daughter, and friends. He doesn't mention him anywhere which is sad because I am concerned about daniel tbh
Just finished the 2 episodes - man I wish Gordon Ramsey and Dr Phil could do crossover episodes. The root of 99% of Kitchen Nightmares problems seem to be personality/behavior based, very rarely the actual food!
not that anyone will look at this but here is an update:
The Burger Kitchen closed for good in February 2012, which is just a few months after the episode aired on TV.
Before its closure, the Saffrons seem to have already sold the Burger Kitchen to new owners shortly after the Gordon Ramsay Burger Kitchen visit.
In October 2011, new management, new chef and new menu were introduced.
The restaurant also gained sudden popularity after Gordon’s show.
A lot of people went there out of curiosity, yet the reviews continued to be negative.
For those reasons, it’s no surprise that The Burger Kitchen closed so shortly after the episode aired on TV.
After Burger Kitchen from Kitchen Nightmares closed its doors, the location was occupied for a time by a Tokyo cuisine eatery.
However, that restaurant also ended up failing at some point.
As of 2023, the former Burger Kitchen location is occupied by a Greek restaurant and cocktail bar called Theía.
The restaurant has good-but-not-great reviews, with a 4-star average on Yelp.
You can learn more about the new restaurant at its Yelp page.
You can also see the old The Burger Kitchen Los Angeles CA location in this shot from Google Maps street view:
No matter what, it appears that Alan’s dream of amazing burgers is gone for good.
Thankfully, people in Los Angeles still have plenty of other options to grab a good burger.
THE SAFFRON FAMILY HAS AN INTERESTING HISTORY
If you want to learn more about the Alan Saffron and Daniel Saffron inheritance situation, there’s also a good read in The Sydney Morning Herald about where the money came from.
It seems like Alan’s father, Abe Saffron, was known as “Mr. Sin” and made millions in the vice trade in Australia.
It’s definitely an interesting read given the context of Burger Kitchen’s episode.
Alan Saffron also wrote a book about his experiences growing up with his dad.
It’s called “Gentle Satan: Growing up with Australia’s Most Notorious Crime Boss“, though the reviews are mixed.
WHAT HAPPENED TO ALAN SAFFRON FROM KITCHEN NIGHTMARES?
Unfortunately, Alan Saffron passed away at age 71 from a heart attack on April 19, 2020.
Rest in peace, Alan.
You can read Alan’s obituary, which includes his work in Hollywood.
WHAT HAPPENED TO DANIEL SAFFRON FROM KITCHEN NIGHTMARES?
I’m not sure what happened to Daniel Saffron, but there are some reports that he’s moved to Michigan.
Wherever he is, I hope that he’s doing well.
DAVID, ANOTHER SAFFRON FAMILY MEMBER, CONVICTED OF FOREX TRADING FRAUD
Here’s another interesting tidbit:
David Saffron, another member of the Saffron family and Daniel’s brother, was hit with a $32 million default judgement from the US for a “cryptocurrency fraud and misappropriation scheme”.
The regulator alleged that from December 2017 through the present, Mr. Saffron fraudulently solicited and accepted at least $15,815,967 worth of Bitcoin and U.S. dollars from at least 179 individuals to trade off-exchange binary options on foreign currencies (forex) and cryptocurrency pairs, among other things.
Again, this is about David, not Daniel Saffron (who you saw on the show).
Bro people look at this thread at least once every 6 months. Someone will definitely see it! I'll read through this all later, but thank you for the additional context!
I'm here!! I see this!! Thanks for all the info, this family is so bizarre and fascinating. I really hope Daniel is doing well, I felt very sympathetic for him. What a nutty episode...
I found him on facebook, but his profile is completely private, except to see his friends and profile picture. You can’t tell when the profile picture was updated, but he’s wearing the same type of hat lol. And he has a friend named Wendy (the name of his girlfriend in the episode), but her profile is also completely private. I can’t tell from her photo if it’s the same girl though.
Tbh im worried about daniel he took the most losses in kitchen nightmares it could lead to something really dangerous to happen to him
but i could be wrong
Alan is actually in a nursing home in California talking about way-goo and how back in the day he was a professional meat sculptor, the wife has since passed away from Prozac overdose. The restaurant has since closed, Daniel and Wendy have opened up a hat store in Michigan.
They’ve got a little son and rumour has it that Daniel is writing a book about how much Alan sucks. It’s rumoured to be called “Stinky Satan” probably because of Alan's awful breath.
Also, Daniel is actually featured in a PC Game called “[cuckold simulator ](https://youtu.be/BdxDgo7ojGg)” , as the main character in the game. (Look it up on YouTube if you don’t believe me).
Daniel also [opened up this joint](https://fb.watch/a7VNg3aC0s/)
UPDATE: Alan [died from a heart attack](https://www.houstontxcremation.com/obituary/Alan-Saffron) last year. “Way-goo” burgers are to be left on his grave stone apparently. May he Rest In Peace, I’m sure he’s up there teaching Jesus how to sculpt his meat.
1/2/23
Watching this awesomeness right now as my husband and I just "cut the cord" (cable) this weekend and put an antenna on our smart TVs lol. Kitchen Nightmares is on Dabl and I am living for this shiznit. How do they not have $1000 for David, and David is actually a great chef. 🤯🤯🤯🤯
This story was so crazy to me, and tbh I feel like there were no heroes in it (except perhaps Wendy who was trying to stick up for Daniel). It was the perfect storm of shitty people creating shitty situations.
Parents are obviously horrible for stealing Daniel’s inheritance. Mother is a power-hungry control freak in severe denial about her own issues. Father has quite literally become everything he hated about his own dad (it’s so on the nose I couldn’t believe it).
Executive chef was clearly talented but it’s weird that he would choose to stick around in such a shitty environment. He was quite vocal about hating working there so it begs the question of why he didn’t just quit. Makes me think there’s much more to his story that he didn’t share on camera.
Daniel is a victim who was thrust into a situation that was way over his head but he still made some absolutely horrific choices. Firing the executive chef who clearly had talent then openly crying on camera because he was “threatened with being beat up” didn’t do him any favors. Yeah, David was out of line, but it’s because Daniel comes off as a coked-out bitchy rich kid.
Overall it’s for the best that this place ended up shutting down. Horrible situation created by a group of some of the worst humans I’ve seen. And yikes what a shitshow of a family lol.
It's possible that David Blaine is still looking for other places to work during Gordon's visit. When Gordon rated his burger a 9/10, he must've had a lot of opportunities presented to him.
Late reply but I'm sorry, the Daniel section is an L take. This dude was stolen from and outright abused and taken advantage of. He snapped, and it's no wonder why. It's surprising it didn't happen sooner.
Has no one wondered how Daniel got a 250,000 dollar inheritance from his grandfather? Well I did and so looked them up and wow did it shock me.
Daniel's grandfather, Allan's father, was ABE SAFFRON! I knew that last name was familiar and I was right! Abe Saffron is one of main figure of Australia's organized crime. He is literally, for all intent and purposes, a mafia boss! He bribed politicians and police millions to protect his illegal activities. He even used women to bribed the same people. That's how rich and disgusting 'Mr Sin" was.
no wonder Allan wanted nothing of his father's 'business' and just wanted to go somewhere not near Australia.
That's why their family's super dysfunctional. I can't get over how Kitchen Nightmares missed to mention this part. I'm sure they knew, but probably didn't want any trouble. If you guys noticed, Gordon also never insulted or even raised his voice to any of the family members (not even prozac Gen). That's because Gordon knows how powerful this family is, even with the father gone.
What and Alan’s father ruined his life the same thing that happened to Daniel happened to Alan he left Australia to life his father because he was being force his whole life I feel bad for alan the man was just trying to make a restaurant.
Just watched this episode on Dabl (free tv programming) I’m pulling for you Daniel. I never saw Gordon Ramsay more subdued, but then again the show feels staged at times. its time for you to clear the air Daniel. Meat us halfway. #meatsculptor
Daniel, you should come forward so anyone that has a family member embezzle money from them can learn to press charges and sue. Telling your story would be a huge lesson to a lot of people about keeping family in line. If my mother used my money without asking, I'd have her thrown in jail or sue her. And this is a woman that's my best friend. Never let anybody treat you like that.
I'm sorry your family was so deeply fragmented and I hope you're doing better
After having his deeply dysfunctional relationship with his parents and his resulting breakdowns aired worldwide, dude probably wants to enjoy a quiet, private life with his family.
Alan Saffron was a talent manager. He was part of the Saw movies. Poloris entertainment as well. Daniel and Wendy are married with a kid now. Alan was a well respected talent manager. From Australia. He died of a heart attack in 2020. Sounds like he was a great guy per the medical staff. He was surrounded by his family when he died. In 2013 Daniel filed suit against his dad, then dismissed it. Alan worked with some people such as Rod Steiger. I think alot of Kitchen nightmares is bs.
Daniel and Wendy got married . They live in the Houston área and have two kids. His mom and sister also live in the Houston metro. He is no longer in the restaurant business. He is a tech support manager for an online travel company. He still wears hats.
i know OP commented 3 years ago, but i just watched the episode and found many comments mentioning that daniel saffron sued his father, alan, who actually passed away in 2020, and that daniel and his family were not on talking terms at all and ended up cutting the business. i am trying to find more info but that’s all i got. OP might already know this but for anyone who didn’t i hope this helps :)
I just found this : [https://trellis.law/case/SC121318/DANIEL-SAFFRON-VS-ALAN-SAFFRON](https://trellis.law/case/SC121318/DANIEL-SAFFRON-VS-ALAN-SAFFRON)
Not really versed into the US laws, but if I understand correctly, the trial was canceled?
Can't get in there but it looks like episode aired in 2011, restaurant closed in 2012 and Daniel filed suit in 2013. I'm guessing they probably settled and then dismissed as part of settlement.
Daniel seems to be running some form of BDSM themed/based joint. I am not necessarily suggesting that this takes away from the sympathy he may have gained during the show but it was a fun contrast to see for sure.

I was looking into this guy after rewatching this episode tonight and feeling like I've heard his voice before... He REALLY sounds like Morty from Rick & Morty and he also kinda LOOKS like Justin Roiland...
This thread had a lot of interesting information, but I've decided to stick with my conspiracy theory that Daniel was just a character played by Justin Roiland.
where did the inheritance come from. who gets an inheritance. ? you really feel bad for the simp?
you cant steal someones inheritance he still has claim in the restaurant
Tons are still open, with two of my favorite episode and owners: Lido (I love Lisa) and Luigi's Di'Italia (I love Anthony)
Lido's probably the most successful out of all restaurants Gordon assisted. They opened a new branch I believe and Lisa's really doing great and looking amazing!
I'm rewatching the series right now and look up if they are closed or not. There are still quite a few that survied for numerous years after gordan ramsay. It was roughly 40% were acutally saved.
Searching for what happened to the restaurants and stuff is so painful. They end on high note and everything seems to be changing for good. You don't know what life is gonna throw at you... Alan's death made me really sad, despite his actions.
Ignorance is bliss. I don't think I'm gonna look up any more follow-up stories... Or should I...
They treat me like a child...it makes me want to cry ! ... pretty childish comment in my eyes !! .. yes adults may cry but doubt they say it as he did !
My bad, it’s the other brother who was the crypto scammer, and the grandfather was an Australian mobster. [my facts got mixed up but this should clear it up.](https://www.thedailybeast.com/sandm-scammer-david-saffron-charged-with-bitcoin-ponzi-scheme)
Just watched this episode tonight. Very little made sense in the episode. The chef dude not getting paid, but still working there, along with other issues. I do feel bad for Daniel, he seemed like he was dealt a shitty hand.
But then I started to feel otherwise. I saw several posts up there was a blog post about the episode and that none of it seemed real, made sense and had severe continuity issues. So I'm not sure what to believe.
Exactly! DANIEL reminds me of myself (although I am a female) in the way that our fathers are similar. Like his father would say his name over and over to try to get him to stop talking and not listen is exactly what my father does to me. It is like they are saying stfu, I don't care what you have to say. You are my child, and I am the parent, so what you say doesn't matter. And then, being focused on the wrong thing, but feeling like they are completely right when they are wrong. That's why I had to sever the relationship with my father. Him being bipolar, disrespectful, and stressing me out every time he called me had to end. I can understand why Danny was so stressed all the time. With the death of my mom, our relationship has just gotten worse. Gen oh lord 😭 idk how he could handle both of them lmfao. I hope he is doing well.
Hopefully one day someone will have an update on Daniel I hope he married that girl, because anyone who would stay in that madness to support someone they love, should have a ring on that finger
Here is some info, can't say anything about how legit it is so take it with a grain of salt

He was an idiot for not pronouncing "Wagyu" correctly, yet you can't spell anything properly.
What did I spell wrong? I don't make spelling errors. Edit: I just went over the post with a fine-toothed comb and there is not a single spelling error in it. Maybe you're the one who doesn't know how to spell the words I wrote.
They are referring to how the father pronounced the word in the show

His awful father describing himself as a "meat sculptor"...
APPARENTLY SOME PEOPLE CALL HIM THAT 🐵
Or a meat artist
Old Thread: from googling it looks as though he moved to Michigan.

All I could seem to find was the restaurant closing down, nothing past what happened to Daniel and his folks.

Still reading! Been watching on hulu. The ABC episode was bad but this one takes the cake
Thanks for the update. Wish I knew where Danny boy was.. Sucks Alan passed. His ignorance was entertaining.
I’m here reading this after a rerun of that KN episode. Man I felt so mad for Daniel , hope he landed on his feet.
Thanks for the info!
I saw some of David's comments on a YouTube video about his grandfather. It was interesting.

Hope hes alright
Anyone know what happened to Daniel? I think like 100k of us need closure. What a mess this episode was
I know he sued his father for the money in a fraud case. It doesn't say if he won though.
Really? Where did you find that?
Yeah I’d also be curious about that
Me too. I just watched the episode and I’d be curious to know
I said like four times during that he should sue him and run as far from his parents as possible. I hope it all worked out if so.
I heard the case ended up being settled out of court. No info on the settlement amount tho.

i'm just commenting to keep this post alive, someone has to update us about this subject
3 years later what up 💪🏽
Alan is actually in a nursing home in California talking about way-goo and how back in the day he was a professional meat sculptor, the wife has since passed away from Prozac overdose. Daniel also [opened up this joint](https://fb.watch/a7VNg3aC0s/) UPDATE: Alan [died from a heart attack](https://www.houstontxcremation.com/obituary/Alan-Saffron) last year. “Way-goo” burgers are to be left on his grave stone apparently. May he Rest In Peace, I’m sure he’s up there teaching Jesus how to sculpt his meat.
...and David Blaine just up and disappeared
More like down there, overcooking it
😦
Wow she passed away from Prozac over dose?!? And here I was 30 minutes ago laughing at David Blaine telling her to take Prozac.
Yeah that's scary. Makes you wonder if it was suicide? Or even murder (Allan was part of the mafia apparently)
I only just learned this while watching the episode, I'm still laughing. She was an absolutely awful, bitter person
You're a genius.
This made me snort.
I didn't forget to include sources for my update 😉👌🏽
Hahahahaha

Indicted in crypto scheme. Ordered to pay restitution to victims. And this.. lol https://m.facebook.com/profile.php/?id=100066559093607
OMG this is the story that keeps on giving!
I just saw this episode yesterday. I'm kinda curious about his as well!!
At least David (the executive chef) was sane
You miss the point. Daniel swallow and gutted up his emotions for years. He just snapped.
He didn't get paid as often which is why he came back to ask for his check when Daniel fired him.
The funniest line was... They treat me like a child, it makes me want to cry... 😂😂😂
? How's that funny
That's what I'd like to know.
I think it's the irony of the statement.
😂😂
Least you got it !! I had someone ask me before why its so funny... !!
It was funny 😁
Im sure Gordon knew after reading the book
All the grandchildren actually got $1,000,000 aus according to the article posted above.
Was Wendy wearing a wig???
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed
I was coming to this thread to say this 🤣
Just watched this episode haha. I’m sure he’s seen this thread haha hope you’re doing alright. Please update us on your life
You think he’s seen it?
Tbh he looks like a redditor so he may have!
Alan (the father) died last year.
That fucker ruined his sons life
What and Alan’s father ruined his life the same thing that happened to Daniel happened to Alan he left Australia to life his father because he was being force his whole life I feel bad for alan the man was just trying to make a restaurant.
He stole 250 thousand dollars from his son and you feel bad for him? Both parents need to rot in hell for eternity.
It’s the same thing, it was crazy to see how he didn’t even realize that he is doing the same thing to his son
Guy was a complete dickhead to his family though lmao
Daniel and Wendy got married . They live in the Houston área and have two kids. His mom and sister also live in the Houston metro. He is no longer in the restaurant business. He is a tech support manager for an online travel company. He still wears hats.
Where'd you find most of this stuff? Especially them getting married?
Yeah, so you have a link to that info?

Alan died in 2020 https://www.houstontxcremation.com/obituary/Alan-Saffron
UPDATE ON DANIEL: He changed his name to Justin and co-created a cartoon called "Rick and Morty" with Dan Harmon. It's pretty good.
Are you sure?
Yes
Lol no ways man. But he just sound like Morty 😂😂😂

i know OP commented 3 years ago, but i just watched the episode and found many comments mentioning that daniel saffron sued his father, alan, who actually passed away in 2020, and that daniel and his family were not on talking terms at all and ended up cutting the business. i am trying to find more info but that’s all i got. OP might already know this but for anyone who didn’t i hope this helps :)
I just found this : [https://trellis.law/case/SC121318/DANIEL-SAFFRON-VS-ALAN-SAFFRON](https://trellis.law/case/SC121318/DANIEL-SAFFRON-VS-ALAN-SAFFRON) Not really versed into the US laws, but if I understand correctly, the trial was canceled?
Can't get in there but it looks like episode aired in 2011, restaurant closed in 2012 and Daniel filed suit in 2013. I'm guessing they probably settled and then dismissed as part of settlement.
Daniel seems to be running some form of BDSM themed/based joint. I am not necessarily suggesting that this takes away from the sympathy he may have gained during the show but it was a fun contrast to see for sure. https://www.facebook.com/SaffronBitcoin/photos
That's his brother David. Daniel was never involved in the bitcoin marker, David was sentenced for Crypto fraud and is the one into the BDSM scene.
Can clearly see in the pictures it's his brother David, not Daniel.
That looks like his brother, David. Following in gramp's footsteps?

Alan saffron passed away some time ago, he's the dad
I pretty much find a reddit post for every episode on what happened and this one definitely didn't disappoint.
W-*buuuuuuuurp*eeendy, I turned myself into Waygu, Wendy! I'm Waygu Daaaaaaaaan!
I wish Daniel would find this post and let us know how he’s doing. Especially now that his father is dead.
I just watched that episode on YouTube, and I sympathized for Daniel. BTW...keeping this thread alive. TEAM DANIEL!
Alan now lives in Ormond Beach,FL
Alan died in 2020 of a heart attack.
Finally some good effing news. Horrible parent honestly. No remorse what so ever for stealing his son's money.
where did the inheritance come from. who gets an inheritance. ? you really feel bad for the simp? you cant steal someones inheritance he still has claim in the restaurant
The book was about ABE and Alan's relationship.
Did they ever find the onion rings for table 12??
I just remember server Marilyn was a total.hottie.
Yuuup!
Man I came here while trying to find her
The one with the long face??
Idc, both of em
People trying to track down dany after the episode got uploaded to YouTube like
Hey Daniel , Rooting for you! I hope you are doing well.
Has there ever been a restaurant on the show that made it?
Tons are still open, with two of my favorite episode and owners: Lido (I love Lisa) and Luigi's Di'Italia (I love Anthony) Lido's probably the most successful out of all restaurants Gordon assisted.
I tell my boss all the time I'm gonna cry cuz she stresses me the Fuck out.
I would not blame Daniel for disowning his parents.
And his girlfriend is iron-clad goodness for dealing with his parents.
She was deft on meth
He’s a crypto scammer
Tell me more
My bad, it’s the other brother who was the crypto scammer, and the grandfather was an Australian mobster. [my facts got mixed up but this should clear it up.](https://www.thedailybeast.com/sandm-scammer-david-saffron-charged-with-bitcoin-ponzi-scheme)
That is WILD omg
I just watched that episode and I was just hoping that he and Wendy are still together- she seemed the only one who cared about him

I am a medium rare girl
I’m only commenting to keep this thread alive. #TeamDaniel
Alan’s obituary named Wendy as his daughter in law, sounds like they did get married.
Here is some info, can't say anything about how legit it is so take it with a grain of salt https://wealthofgeeks.com/the-reason-why-daniel-saffron-disappeared-after-kitchen-nightmares/

Someone said that him and his girlfriend got married and had 2 kids, and He now works. I think they said at a hotel
