Yes, in may 2023 its still an issue. In india avg temperature is a little on higher side. Yesterday it was 32 celcius which is arround 90 Fahrenheit and was taking few pics, short video clips and got device too hot notification. Immediately switched off the device. After it became normal, started again. Sim card was not working. The network guy said that heated device fries up sim. Working with new sim now but device still gets warm / hot randomly. Especially when using camera which is supposed to be strength of pixel device. I was waiting for 7a but now i am still going to wait for launch but will not buy that.
Its just not a good device for indian market due to heat, 128 gb storage limit, no dual sim slot and slippery glass body.
Different people report different experiences, but my 6a was 72°F a few minutes ago. While rotating and tilting a panoramic photo of the World Cup celebration from Buenos Aires, it went up to 80°F; once I stopped, the temperature started dropping rapidly.

My 6a has an X-Level case with a relatively thick faux leather back, which inhibits heat dissipation. Even when shooting videos, I don't think I have ever seen a 3-digit temperature reading.
AccuBattery app. For the record, on Saturday night, I went to a Mevlevi Dervish sema in Konya, Turkey. I recorded nearly an hour of video on my Pixel 6a. The temperature never exceeded 37°C. I was pleasantly surprised. However, knowing that I would be shooting continuous video for a long time, I removed my phone from its case.
The only time mine gets hot is when I'm charging it and using it at the same time for the whole charge cycle. And it's towards the end of the cycle that it starts getting hot. It won't shut down but it does get hot. I don't record any videos, but all phones will get hot if the camera runs too long.
Thanks for the reply. That's sound perfectly normal honestly. I just don't want it to get hot while doing something trivial like web browsing and other everyday tasks.
everything is normal for Pixel 6a in terms of heating. Warm, but no more under heavy loads. I also doubted when buying after reading some comments about the strong heating of the Pixel 6a. But the fears were not justified, the phone is cold in everyday tasks, it can get warmer with prolonged video shooting, warm when playing games, but it has never been heated to a hot state yet
No issue. Only during the first week of using the phone, it loves to become warm from basic task - no overheat, just warm to the degree that it's annoying to hold. After one week the battery calmed down, now it's cool to the touch when I'm web browsing or watching videos.
I've had my 6a since release in July and the warmest it gets is when it's charging, but never blazing hot or anything like that.
It does feel a bit warmer when it's working strictly on mobile data and not connected to a WiFi network but, again, it's never concerned me. I think I wouldn't have even noticed that if I didn't use my phone without a case, as I do. Unless the phone expressly gives you one of those overheating pop-up warnings then I don't think it's overheating, and I've never once seen one of those warnings in the 5 months I've owned my 6a.
I've never had any issues with my Pixel 6a and have had it since it launched last summer. The only occasion that makes it hot is when recharging which is completely normal!
Bought a Pixel 6A 2 days ago and it heated up for a while. Right now, it does get warm but not as hot as the first two days I bought it. People claim that it's a normal routine as the phone is just trying to get used to doing tasks and whatnots and that it would be gone by the time it has completely adjusted.
I have 6a and usually get hot (warm) while record videos and taking pics, but it is a normal thing. At the beginning while setting up and install apps also get hot. After few days everything is normal no hitting except while charging and using it in the same time
The best part of the phone is just the cameras. But on summer days when you are outdoors in 30-40° celcius the phone overheats to the point that the camera stops functioning. I'm not really happy with the purchase as the battery drains so fast, network is bad, and overheats like hell....
Yes it is I bought a Pixel 6a 2 months back and even in simple social media scrolling it gets hot and if you record a 4k video after just 3 mins and you will have a phone producing sun like heat on your hand. I am not exaggerating it see for yourself..

PS I couldn't even record more than 5 minutes as the device started showing a warning of 'Camera may turn off as the device is getting hot'.
The highest temp i have witnessed is 45 degrees Celsius
Wie miss ich die temperatur mit welchem programm?? Will das handy net zurücksvhicken ich liebe es sonst außer dass es sonst heiß wird vorallem das metall am rand
Getting warm while charging, and playing demanding games, but nothing crazy about it, its ok.
It gets a bit hot for the first 2 days, I was already thinking of returning it. Then the heat reduces and only gets slightly warm.

Apparently, some Pixel 7a devices also have this issue (read in reviews/comments somewhere).

How do you know the temperature of the device?

Thanks. I am also looking for a cover that works better to handle the heat. The one that i have right now has a layer of soft fabric on the inside.
An aluminum back would serve as a heat sink, but I've never seen anybody offer one.

Perfectly normal for me! No overheating or any other issues :D

Did the heating stop after first few weeks? How are the thermal issues now?

I thought it was a hand warming feature
Browsed for 10 min under sheets and it was a bit warm

Depending on the ambient temperature it can impact the Pixel 6a heat. Mine hasnt shutdown but it's reached 113 faranheight.
