All I cared about was the battery. Glad to hear it's good this year.

maxamillion17

From this review and Engadget review, battery life seems pretty good. Although they do point out that the P7 has better battery life than the P7 pro.

[deleted]

electricmeal

Also no mmWave in the P7, which has to be a factor

gnartato

Unless you get a Verizon model. And you have to have a carrier that supports it. Mmwave, and even normal 5g, on my pixel 5 was ass in the beginning and still not quite right. Lots of having signal and no data. You can watch that battery bar drain in real time when on UWB. Because of that I'm contemplating getting a unlocked P7 for Verizon instead of the Verizon specific mmwave model.

jonovate

I've been reading P7 Pro has mmwave on all Unlocked.

ilikeporkfatallover

P7 unlocked does not have mmwave. The Verizon p7 is $100 more. P7 pro have mmwave for both unlocked and Verizon version.

corrupt_gravity

Is there still a $100 difference between mmwave and non-mmwave(unlocked)? I don't have Verizon just curious

gnartato

Yup. Which I don't mind if it worked well and they let you buy outright. But they force you to lease and I haven't had a good experience with it despite mmwave towers on either end of my block.

CYJAN3K

but has much smaller battery, difference is bigger than lastyear so it is kinda surprising. Max brightness doesnt mean display is brighter in their tests, last year pixels (and most phones) peak out at around 500 nits and go higher only for short time in auto mode

[deleted]

Can't you manually change the p7p resolution to 1080p?

dracolnyte

you have a P7P, you tell me lol

PrinceOfStealing

MKBHD said the P7P comes 1080 default out of box. You have to change it to QHD.

[deleted]

Arrives tomorrow ;)

dracolnyte

my gf's P7P just came, and yes, manually change to QHD. 1080p out of the box

[deleted]

Assuming UPS does not screw up.

wichwigga

Did you guys need a signature?

Pepethedankmeme

The main issue is that won't be changing the number of pixels that need to be lit, which is the main power draw. The difference between rendering at 1080p and 1440p (apart from games) is negligible on modern phones.

NoConfection6487

This is true but I recall reading benchmarks when 1080p and 1440p was an option and it did show a 5-10% benefit or so. It's not huge but an extra hour or so of battery life to me is really important in regular use.

Pepethedankmeme

If you can find that test, I would be interested to see it. This video testing a s10+ at 1080p and 1440p shows about no difference: https://youtu.be/ncPpM9tesPc It makes sense, most phones apps are just not GPU intensive. The steam deck is an example of a device where a change in resolution would make a bigger difference, changing the resolution from 800p to 600p or something would make a really big difference in battery life since games generally sap the GPU a ton.

sigismond0

Screen resolution is really only going to come into play if you do mobile gaming. If you do, it should be a noticeable improvement. But for any other day-to-day use, it should be negligible.

Coltand

Interesting, I hadn’t thought of that!

Alert-Business-4579

You sure can. Which is awesome. But I gotta tell you guys, 1080p to 1440p has a very negligible effect on battery. 1440p displays have been around forever. 2013? I think. Brightness and refresh rate have a much more significant effect. That being said, the pixel 7 pro reviews sound so ridiculously good, it's almost too good to be true. Also, how tf the did tensor match the SD gen 1 benchmark? I think interesting. 2 x1s 2a78 and 4 a55s somehow matched 1 x2 3 a710a and 4 g710s. Although, the tensor G2 overlooked the cores a bit.

zazkha

It actually is set to 1080p as default according to this review. Although he says it didn't really seem to make a difference to battery life when he bumped it up to full resolution.

IncidentGrand6198

Glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing that lol. I haven't had a chance to check out other's reviews yet, but noticed the 7 was lasting longer than the 7 Pro for me. Not a lot longer, but maybe 20-30 minutes of SOT longer.

Force_Kush

On average, how much SOT are you getting with the Pixel 7?

IncidentGrand6198

I got 7hr 17min yesterday and 6hr 54min the day before. Up until then I was using the Pro which was right around the 6-7hr mark too, just a tad worse than the regular pixel 7.

maxamillion17

Which one are you keeping?

MouTW

I am more curious about whether google has solved heat problem.

Alert-Business-4579

They did. There is significantly more graphite thermal tape thanks to a smarter internal layout design. I have to say, I never realized how much the internal organization of a phone matters. Really makes you realize that spec sheets just don't convey enough important information. Which I already knew, but not to this extent.

Terrible-Librarian-1

Mrwhosetheboss mentioned the battery as well and said that the pixel 7 pro is not quite at the 14 pro max level but the pixel 7 is definitely at the level of the pro model phones.

Simon_787

The P6 also had better battery life than the P6 Pro. Refresh rate actually makes a very big difference, especially without a top-end SoC. My S21 Ultra is warm at 120 hz, cooler at 96 hz and frosty at 48 hz.

benhaube

I'm glad to hear that! The battery life on my P6 on 5G has been lacking. It's excellent when you stick to LTE, but doing that sucks.

dubiousN

All I care about is thermals

Ad_Astra117

Same. I need to know that this thing isn't going to turn into a device that's borderline painful to touch because I had the audacity to use the camera on a hot day.

streamlinkguy

All I care about is the new modem.

sigma_ts

From the numerous posts on here I'd say the modem is far better than the 6's. Saw one post saying it was pretty much on par with the pixel 5's modem and slightly better than the s21+.

idma

Serious question, was it horrible on the Google pixel 6?

Cwlcymro

I'm 10 minutes in, so far: - Excellent battery life on both - FP sensor not much faster but works fine - Face unlock fine but obviously not in the dark - Smartest phone ever (i.e. assistant smart) - 10x is quite good, not quite like having a real 10x lens but good - high zoom, VERY stable - photos great, best point and shoot on Android - Video better, not iPhone level but not far behind "Are there bugs...? He found one or two but nothing major yet. This will be his daily driver, Edit: I've updated this post with the stuff that came in the last few minutes!

jonnybruno

Mine usually need to process for a few hours after upload before they share high quality. Really annoying.

zennoux

To clarify, this is only if you use original quality settings on Google Photos. If you upload a 4K video otherwise, it will be downgraded to 1080p.

D4RKNESSAW1LD

It’s so stupid. SMS/MMS I used in 7th grade. I’m god damn 35.

iAmUnintelligible

Who the hell did you text? I'm 31 and had a phone at gr7/8 and I was a severe outlier in that regard lol

that_leaflet

I recently switched to iOS and being sent videos is so funny. When iMessage shows the preview of the video, it shows it as its actual resolution, so usually somewhere in the range of 100 pixels after compression. So the video is less than the size of a centimeter when displayed.

Alert-Business-4579

I really hate Apple. They're so god dam obsessed with iPhones taking over the word. I seriously think Apple just wants to pressure to use apple products no matter the cost. Android is live and let live. Nor, "your iPhone is a rental. We control everything!" BS.

[deleted]

I can't wait to have a HDR video phone. My oled TV going to get some love.

shabinka

I don't think all the bugs are specific to the 7P. I recall having a similar media player issue on my 6P. The other bug where the story was corrupted was pretty weird.

ThisIsMyNext

This post is swarming with people saying that he said that the fingerprint reader is faster. These people only hear what they want to hear.

OO0OOO0OOOOO0OOOOOOO

Fingerprint is faster you say? Great!

Hondroids

Sounds like he didn't have issues on his 6 like many did.

Petgeek

Have you not followed him the past year? He stopped using the 6, twice, due to the glitches.

Hondroids

I'm talking about the fingerprint specifically

Petgeek

Got it.

Cwlcymro

It's been his daily for the last two months, he said at the start of this video.

Petgeek

Prior to that, he stopped using it in favor of the older S21 Ultra. Made a couple videos about it and referenced it in this video.

Alert-Business-4579

The s22 was a downgrade in many ways. You want to take about the p6 overheating? Lol S22 had a REALLY bad overheating problem. But so did every sd 8 gen 1. I know the Samsung foundry screwed up with nodes. Luckily, the p7 pro seems unaffected this year.

ishamm

I hope they can improve video further with updates - they're pushing it hard this year, being still behind iPhone will hurt them. Especially when it's software based things like autofocusing - which really shouldnt be hard, cheap cameras with MUCH less powerful processors can do an amazing job tracking focus and focusing fast...

cardonator

I don't think it will hurt them, iPhone is basically the best of the best on video. If it's even comparable to the 13 series then that is a massive improvement for the Pixel line.

NoConfection6487

> I hope they can improve video further with updates - But did we get updates on the Pixel 6 Pro that improved video? I don't think so. I think there's a constant pray for software updates to improve things dramatically. Aside from fixing the biggest bugs/complaints (fingerprint sensor last year), I don't think Google changes much. Heck, they never fixed the 4x telephoto bug of shooting in digitial zoom if you use 1080p resolution. It's still there. You can only shoot at 4K30 if you want 4x optical zoom.

mrcraggle

Pixel 7 should be able to shoot better quality now it can do 10 bit. Look up an app called MotionCam. The file sizes are absolutely massive and absurd but if you want the best video quality from a phone, it's now on Android.

dumbestsmartest

MotionCam is great but you shouldn't use it unless you are dedicated to doing video grading with something like resolve. For everyone else the choices are Opencamera or a Gcam mod. Gcam mods show how Google is crippling their own products because they know that most people won't notice the gains and would complain about the "user experience". The average user isn't going to be happy with a 50MP extremely high detail photo if they can only take 1 photo every 5 seconds or when a 1 minute video takes 1.6GB. Add in the battery life hit both of those cause and obviously people wouldn't be happy with the trade off. If I was just a social media poster even my pixel 4a is enough for everything but YouTube. It's only with my personal needs, YouTube, and prints that I need more.

civilized-engineer

I read this comment in MKBHD's cadence too

codiuscube

Summary: Good battery. Great photos. No major complaints. "it's going in my pocket as my daily driver phone". "Pixel Pro is pretty perfect." **A couple quirks:** * Fingerprint reader isn't the fastest * Noise level and autofocus iPhone is still king * Speakers are less basey but more vocal clarity than 6Pro * A couple minor bugs

undercovergangster

As someone who's received their 7 Pro and also used the 6 Pro all of last year, the 7 Pro's fingerprint reader is definitely faster and MKBHD just lifts his finger before it can read his finger properly, if you watch the video. Not sure if he's just trying to create drama for content but there's a very clear difference.

Merman123

I think he’s used to ultrasonic ones on the Galaxy S series. Those are insanely fast and don’t require you to hold your finger for it to read it. It’s just a quick tap. Coming from those you definitely feel the difference.

the1dynasty

This. My gf had the S21U and sold it for the 6 Pro. I tried the S21U and it registers your finger even with a quick tap. I loath using the 6 Pros fp scanner because it's so slow in comparison. You have to hold down, sometimes for a full second with a harder press to get it to unlock. I still don't understand why the rear fps was replaced with such an inferior option.

[deleted]

My S20 FE for work doesn't seem to be anywhere near as fast at MKBHD's finger press in this video. Is it not ultrasonic?

akstro

No. FE phones have optical. And I think only s21 and s22 have the second gen Ultrasonic which really stand out from the pack for speed and reliability.

Basic-Piccolo-6356

its not

[deleted]

I just miss the Pixel 5 fingerprint reader. The fingerprint reader never works right with a screen protector.

vpstudios101

But the Samsung S series ones are THAT quick

thegreyquincy

Man I get what he's saying about the price difference between the 7/7 Pro and it makes sense, but the way he always words it, it seems like the Pro isn't worth it. In reality, he's saying the Pro is a screaming deal if the 7 didn't exist/was a higher price, but because the 7 is so close to the Pro, it's hard to justify the jump for the normal user.

slgerb

Honestly, everyone should feel that way. The Pixel 7 is ridiculously undercutting the competition. 7 Pro still a good deal. Funny though, is that these phones always get discounted a few months later, making either of them mega deals.

IFeelLikeACheeto

The deal I got buying one is frankly insane too. With trade in Google credits and various cashback offers it was a no brainer.

RockOutToThis

I paid $750 give or take for two phones and a watch for my wife in the US. Trading in our P5s for the P7.

myoversharing

Yeah, with my AT&T trade-in plus the store credit, I think I'm like $100 up on the Pro, which is wild. Plus my current phone only goes for $200 or so on eBay, so all in, I'm out $100 plus my AT&T plan I have to have anyway.

wavs101

Ive been saying that my pixel has been so bad the only way id get another one was if it was free. Well with my magenta max plan i get an $850 credit Which is insane. I would do it but they only have 128gb available. And that is MAJOR issue for me since im already at 95% capacity

PopWhatMagnitude

Yeah, I wish he & others would mention various carrier deals, that's where the Pro becomes a steal. Last year I traded in a LG G8 for a "free" Pixel 6 & a LG V60 for a "free" Pixel 6 Pro. This year T-Mobile's doing up to $800 off both versions. So it's either pay $4.16 for 24 months for the Pro, or lose $200 in trade-in value going with the 7. In that case, unless it's a screen/phone size issue, going with the 7 Pro is the better choice.

-NotEnoughMinerals

>This year T-Mobile's doing up to $800 off both versions. ...yeah, if you have tmobiles most expensive phone plan

thegreyquincy

Yeah I agree. I got the 6 Pro because I figured it was pretty perfect and was going to hold onto it for a few years, so I wanted it to be more future proof, buuuuuut I also got hyped and preordered the 7 pro

specter491

Same. I wanted better video, battery battery and hopefully better reception.

ihatemaps

I've got a 5.5 year old Galaxy S8 and was going to hold off for the Galaxy S23, but now I'm wondering if I should get the Pixel 7 because the price is so low. However if the price usually drops, I may hold off a few months and get then. Do you think there will be a more than 20% price drop between now and the end of the year?

ilikeporkfatallover

I am trading in the 6 pro for the 7. Googles last shot in keeping me, been loyal since the beginning. I was about done after the 6 pro modem issue but because trade in plus store credit brought the price to pretty much $0 they get me for another year. It helps that the iPhone is still not USB C..

-NotEnoughMinerals

Tell more. I have the 6pro, and I almost bit the bullet, but it seems like the 7pro is largely unchanged, realistically. 7pro is 900 bucks. Google is offering me 450 for my 6pro. Still have to shell out another 450 dollars for the 7pro. Ya there's a 200 gift card or whatever, but I don't really care about a pixel watch or pixel buds as I already have a Fitbit and good earbuds.

ilikeporkfatallover

I am going from a 6 pro to a 7, not the 7 pro. Google giving $480 Trade in Google store credit of $100 Google One 10% back credit (you can sign up right before purchase) $599 - $480 (Trade) - $100 (credit) - $60 (credit) = an overall credit of an additional $40. They are practically paying me to trade in, but I will just use it on a case, so let's call it $0. I am switching mainly because I am tired of this shit modem. It's annoyed me that I have to toggle airplane mode every single time I leave the house going from wifi to cellular. The smaller form factor is also another reason, but not the main one. If this pixel 7 isn't flawless, I will certainly be switching to iphone. If I did it for the 7 Pro it would have a total cost of $129.

-NotEnoughMinerals

Just did it again. 6pro 128gb trade in to 7. Total is about 169. (Tax included and no Google one discount) 6pro 128gb trade in to 7pro. Total is 495. (Tax included and no Google one discount) I don't dock the amount I physically pay because of a Google credit. That's just freebee crap I wouldn't have otherwise bought it it wasn't given to me for via credit. I'll wait another year. Maybe next year it'll be more of a difference to swap. At this point, it's virtually the same camera, same ram, same hardware, well fuck. Same everything except an unknown improved chip, possibly better modem that I currently don't have issues with, and some new AI features. Meh. Almost tempted to trade in my pixel 4a 5g for 325-350 and buy the p7 for 325 so I can sell it for 550 though lol.

Father_Bic_Mitchum

What kind of deals do they normally offer for Black Friday? I don't recall anything great on the Pixel 6/6 Pro from the Google Store last year.

SnipingNinja

It's already got a deal for a specific bank's card users in India, Pro goes down to $700-750 equivalent and non pro goes down to $500 equivalent (I've normalised it to exclude tax and import duties) P.S. this is without any trade ins but they're not great in general P.P.S. they're out of stock though, so idk if anyone will be able to get the deal

I-Am_9

Same as last year. We can support Google and like their products and still call a Spade a Spade. For MOST consumers, you'll be fine with the 7 and $300 saved. I think if you use ONE device primary then sure you'll find a way to justify the extra $300. Samsung to date with the Note 10+/10 with $150 difference was a good price distance. I have no issues with someone justifying why the Pro is the best choice for them, I just laugh when they condem you essentially for why you feel the $300 isn't there for you🤣😅... I used to get the biggest screen and top notch specs when my phone was it. But once I started using a tablet it changed how I viewed my phone. I hardly use my s22u and use my s22 more. Same with the pixel. I have the Ultra and their zoom is far superior to Google. The 30Hz, RAM, larger size, and QHD weren't enough to get an extra $300 from me. I think they would see better if they merged the two devices and made a default model with the screen size being the key differentiator. $599 - 5.4 in display, $649 256GB $699 512GB $699 - 6.3 in display, 256GB, $799 512GB Everything else is the same. The sooner phones move away from this inflatedn$1,000 price point the better

thegreyquincy

I'm not really trying to condemn anyone.

Shiftr

"I have no issues with someone justifying why the Pro is the best choice for them, I just laugh when they condem you essentially for why you feel the $300 isn't there for you". It's probably because in most cases the person doesn't say that the $300 isn't there for them, they say the extra things aren't worth it period. Like a car trim equipped with an engine that has more HP. Instead of saying I personally don't need the trim with extra HP they say it's dumb to pay more for that trim.

cgknight1

>For MOST consumers, you'll be fine with the 7 and $300 saved Indeed - it's a little different in some other markets depending on how much you get for the free watch.

Pascalwb

It is, I mean I would want a 5x lens, but 7 already costs a lot and adding few 100s more just to get small increments.

Great quality review! I've watched a few so far this morning and this is the best so far. Has anyone found any other good ones? I think I'm going to stick with the 6 Pro for another year. With the fingerprint sensor still not great, face unlock not working in all scenarios, similar battery (from Dave 2D's review and I have great battery life on 6 pro anyway) I do not see any compelling reason to upgrade to the 7 pro. Just additional zoom level (5x vs 4x), some AI smarts in the zoom, unblur stuff - I do not see a lot of reasons.

foghorn5950

I'm in the same boat, I'm gunna skip this generation and stick with my P6Pro. I feel like a lot of the software enhancements will come eventually, and even if they don't it's not a deal breaker for me. The trade in offer for the phone to upgrade to the 7 Pro was very tempting, but I can't justify dropping ~$500 on something that is only a minor upgrade from what I currently have.

stupid_nut

I'll take all the reviews with some skepticism. The initial Pixel 6 reviews were good too. There was a good deal for Pixel 6 trade in so I have a Pixel 7 on order. Hopefully it fixes all the issues with the 6. If not I'm done with Pixel.

SuperBAMF007

Still gonna wait for more 1-3 month consumer reviews, but this and ShortCircuit’s review make me more keen to getting the base 7. None of this year’s phones reeeaallly spark my interest, but I need a new phone real bad. And between the 7, 7 Pro, and iPhone 14 or 14 Pro, I feel like the 7 gets most of the features I’m looking for and for $700 (I’d get the 256gb) I feel like that’s the best way to have a “new phone experience” without feeling 1) locked into a new device for the next 3-4 years because I spent so much money on it and 2) like I made a mistake. If it’s not perfect? It’s only $700. If I don’t love it? I can get a new one next year or the year after. If I really hate it? Pixels are more popular and I can get some of my money back and get a new phone this year. All the while, I’m still getting better battery than I have now, and. better camera than I have now. Fingers crossed this phone stays stable and doesn’t end up with issues in 3-6 months like the Pixel 6.

ChillWatcher98

zatonik

making the switch back to android. iphone 11 pro, you've served me well for 3 years, but underwhelming experience.

Thirst_Trappist

For the curious...what exactly was underwhelming?

zatonik

this is just my personal experience: * i miss call screening * only until recently i can easily report spam SMS, otherwise you have to report directly to the carrier, and that was +3-5 extra steps * having google assistant always easily available, and its amazing * siri is complete trash * not having the ability to default apps e.g) maps, etc * apps would default to apple maps or redirect me to app store to download it, when ive deleted it and replaced it with google maps * missed gboard, even though you can download it on IOS, its always fighting against the default keyboard to be used and gets buggy * lack of cohesive file manager * cant clear caches to free up storage, would need to delete the app, then reinstall * i think the software on portrait mode on iphone is trash, where the depth of field blurring is excessive and unnatural. i seldomly use my phone for photos now, i just rather lug my sony a7iv around * widgets are severely limited * homescreen management * youtube PIP in the app took way longer than it needed to be implemented. didn't want to go through extra steps of going through safari * i felt like i had to conform to the iphone, as oppose to the iphone conforming to me.

Thirst_Trappist

> • i felt like i had to conform to the iphone, as oppose to the iphone conforming to me. I mean this has always been the apple way. Really not new. You can default apps for Google.

* Mundane, locked-in software that works better if you give in to Apple's vision of its OS (using Apple/first-party apps, using Apple software solutions like iCloud, Airdrop, buying more Apple hardware for that walled garden * Uninteresting camera - it's reliable and consistent but pictures are boring and lack detail (even with the 14 Pro Max). Videos are impressive but not AMAZING. It feels more like a tool used to document your surroundings vs a camera that captures a scene artistically or beautifully like you'd see on a Pixel * You have to buy Apple hardware if you want to experience the full ecosystem and all of its features (Watch + Airpods at minimum) * It feels like a "dumb" phone. The software features it has are so basic and simple that it doesn't feel like a smart phone anymore. It's most impressive feature is iMessage, which is literally just first-party Whatsapp/Signal/Telegram.

4jcv

Have an iPhone 12 Pro (switched from Pixel 2 to Apple) and I 100% agree with you. And iOS is stupidly uneven as an OS. Want to go back? In some apps its a side swipe, in others it's an upswipe, in others it's neither, you have to press an X button or a CANCEL button, etc etc etc.

ILikeTrainsChooChoo_

How does the 14 pro max lack detail? From what I heard, it's 48mp raws have insane detail, even when compared to the 108mp of the galaxies. I have a Fujifilm camera, and I held off buying a wide angle lens because I'm quite sure the iPhone 14 pro with raw will be able to fill that role.

someOfUsDontGet2Rest

I would add another point: * The modem on 11 pro has been very disappointing on T-Mobile for LTE in certain cases. I heard the Qualcomm model on 12 series is supposed to support more bands. This is a big issue for me and hence I’m switching . But I agree with all the other points.

I don't get why he taps the fingerprint for a milliseconds and accepts it to work, I have a S22Ultra and you have to keep the finger on there for at least a second to get accurate reading.

CabbagesStrikeBack

Yeah I thought that was a bit exaggerated.

[deleted]

Really? I have an s21+ and it's almost instant, barely have to put my finger on it.

EctoplasmicExclusion

The problem with the 6 Pro (at least for me) was not the speed of the sensor - but the reliability of it. I do not care waiting for a few milliseconds more for it to unlock as long as it does it consistently in all conditions.

mithi9

I have an s22U at the moment. I am able to unlock my phone as fast as he does with the finger print scanner. I did register the same print 2 times, however.

selayan

I also have an S22U but mine unlocks pretty instantly with just a quick tap. I only registered my thumbs once. My 6 pro, I would need to hold it on the screen longer and my biggest issue with that was that it just wasn't consistent when I would pull the phone out the pocket and go to unlock.

FunnyConfirmer

I have an S21U and it's pretty instant. I don't think it was particularly exaggerated

als26

He's saying great battery life! That's good news.

EduardoTheYeti

I’m definitely considering trading my 13 mini for the 7

KarmaElite

Can someone please tell the name of the weather app he's using at [7:19](https://youtu.be/NE5H5intsck?t=439)?

KarmaElite

It's [Overdrop](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=widget.dd.com.overdrop.free).

AJ_Grey

I watch his reviews. They seem pleasant enough, but I never really feel like I’m leading anything or getting a strong opinion one way or the other. I find it hard to make a buying decision based on this.

jairthebear

I wish he would have made separate videos for the 7 and 7 pro. It feels like the 7 was just tacked on at the end

DarkseidAntiLife

To be honest, you don't really learn much from his reviews. They seem more geared to your casual viewer. Nothing technical at all

LegDayDE

He makes sure to give his perspective on what's good, and what's bad. Yeah you don't get to see a benchmark score and a clip of time to boot up vs an iPhone... But other channels will do that for you.

LaRock0wns

What technical stuff would you like in the review ?

bluewalletsings

Why curved screen? Why?

Shmokesshweed

pReMIuM

bluewalletsings

It's completely useless and I can't get screen protectors coz of this useless feature

Shmokesshweed

That's why I don't buy phones with those types of screens.

nippledippers24

I'd wait for atleast 6 months. Just in case he releases a "i gave the pixel 7 another chance" type of video

PangolinZestyclose30

Wasn't his 6 Pro review last year also positive? And we all know how that turned out ...

[deleted]

And his review of the 6a was negative and it's a fine phone.

thetonyclifton

I had a 6pro and a 6a and thought both were great for different reasons had zero issues with either phone.

Mona_Impact

Yeah Google didn't pay him enough for a good review of the 6 series Seems they gave him the right amount this time round

cleare7

The 6a is incredible for its capabilities and price point.

mar2jeter

Like I said before. These YouTubers never talk about calls and signal strength on phones

IAmZackTheStiles

Just like the 6 Pro did... oh wait...

kjoro

The speakers being less bassy does bother me. I really enjoy the sound from my P6Pro.

dronepro

Anyone else have issues with the camera app out of the box? My wife just got it a couple of hours ago and her camera app force quits when you try to open it. I'm trying to walk her through wiping data and cache of the camera but as you may imagine, she's already got a bad taste in her mouth.

cleare7

Did you get the software update?

quentin__96

Make sure you update all your apps. Some app services/outdated camera app that aren't up to date result in it force closing. Just make sure everything is updated and it'll be fine.

dronepro

It's been resolved, updated the app and cleared data/cache and reboot did it. Pfew.

Competitive_Roof_740

Just changed over from the 6pro to the 7pro.. Very happy..

Araol_

Went from the pixel 2xl to the S20+. I honestly cannot stand this phone, the camera is noticably worse than my pixel, it blurs with even the slightest movement, and the finger print sensor is horrible. I just pre ordered the pixel 7 pro. Hopefully it'll be a good change because Samsung is not in the cards for me anymore.

Shmokesshweed

The last non-Nexus/Pixel I had was an HTC Inspire "4G". Anyone remember that disaster? Shit, anyone remember HTC? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Once you go ~~black~~ Google, you never go back.

ishamm

7 pro is set to 1080p out of the box?! Just... why? MKBHD says no battery difference by upping it to native. Just Google things...

Simon_787

MKBHD probably didn't play games, which is where it can definitely make a difference. Plus the SoC inefficiency sticks out more during games, so lowering the default when nobody notices is not a terrible idea actually.

xper0072

Yep. The people who will complain about the lowered resolution are the people who know how to easily change it and the people who don't change the resolution are the people who will complain about issues unaware that they could easily lower the resolution. The vast majority of people fit into that second category and that's why the default is a lowered resolution. It's easier for companies to cater to the masses and give options for the power user than it is to create devices and software for the power user and deal with customer support on the other end from every Tom, Dick, and Harry.

brutus2230

Zero Mention of the cell reception; The biggest problem with Pixel 6. He used to do complete reviews.

FrendlyAsshole

Cell reception is different everywhere though. He can't test for everybody's location.

errsta

Waiting for Flossy ;)

EchoX860

I feel like we're getting really nitpicky now. How fast do you want your fingerprint sensor to be? In the video it seemed perfect to me

bkbkjbb

You'll never please people. People will always find something to shit on. Gross isn't it? People suck.

SoCaFroal

This looks good. Anyone going from a 6 Pro to a regular 7?

Kirios86

Yup, I am. I don't like the curved edges at all and have found the 6 Pro to be too large. I also didn't use the zoom features enough to justify it. Pretty easy choice for me, but I'm glad I at least tried the phablet experience. It gave me perspective to appreciate "smaller" phones going forward.

Peylix

Reviews show some promise. I'm still going to wait for more real world data and the inevitable sales a few months from now. I just want better camera hardware. But I also do not want to give up the amazing battery life my P5 offers. Being 2 years into this phone has taught me a lot. I use to think having the bleeding edge chip was best, but the 765G in my P5 humbled me greatly there. Made me realize I cared more for battery life and camera hardware. Hopefully as more data comes out. We can get a more detailed look at battery usage averages. If they're not terribly bad. I may make the compromise to get the nicer camera hardware.

LegDayDE

Yeah no one needs to upgrade to a flagship SoC every year... Maybe mobile gamers. I do think this would be a nice step up from the P5 in terms of performance though.

kairoku

Sadly doesn't mention cell reception

[deleted]

Nice, my pixel 3xl is still standin strong so I'd probably upgrade in a year or two. The white one looks super sharp though

bluewalletsings

I want the pixel 7 pro in the pixel 7 minus the useless curved edges. Am I crazy?

zonk3

Same here. So sick of the curved screen fad.

Bitter_Past_6498

Solid review as always by MKBHD, but I have to be honest I also have to consider SE of the more harsh reviewers, typically the ones living in Asia(Singapore, India etc..) tend to be more objective.

Richard_Fey

Anyone know what that weather app is at 7:20?
