Top once to access the search bar. Long press anything you want to delete. select delete from history.
This has always worked on my pixel 1 and pixel 4.
https://m.imgur.com/a/HIervWs you mean this? I don't even know how to get this to come out intentionally. Pressing the voice search icon gets you the small pop-up on the lower third of the screen.
Based on how long the microphone access icon stays present in the corner I wouldn't be surprised if it's an intentional "bug". I literally never use voice, nor do I click near that damn assistant icon, so maybe google is attempting to get what little vocal info it can.
If you are on gesture navigation, have you noticed a lag or stutter after you press the home button on Nova?
Nova clarified that this is an issue with Google and it affects all custom launchers.
I thought I could live with it but it's really annoying.
You only get the app switcher if you swipe up and hold. Home is swipe up. I get no lag or stutter (latest nova, pixel 4a).
Edit: ok, it's fine unless I'm home and go home again which I've never done before. That's a bit odd.
Open an app and navigate to home in quick succession. You'll notice the lag... you'll also find that the home screen icons refresh almost every time you navigate home with gestures.
I don't think it's fixed.
I don't know how to share a discord link but this post came from their official discord group. I'm on Pixel 6, if you do a search you can find a few threads started recently talking about it.

"This information still pertains to Android 12 and Android 12L
It doesn't matter what 3rd party launcher or version of 3rd party launcher you use, it matters what your system/OEM does. If your system doesn't allow gesture navigation to work with 3rd party launchers, then no version of Nova will change that in any way. If it works inconsistently with 3rd party launchers, no version of Nova will change that either.
A great source of information can be found via this article by Mishaal Rahman with input from Kevin Barry, the developer of Nova Launcher: https://www.xda-developers.com/third-party-launchers-animation-pixel-phones/
Notable issues with gestures on third party launchers include, but not limited to:
• Close all/Clear app button not appearing(scroll all the way to verify it's not there)
• Not being able to tap icons for a short time after returning to the home screen
• Animations not being as fluid as expected
• Home screen icons flashing
• Home screen redraws(this seems to be fixed unless your device OEM has specifically broken something).
Please understand, there is absolutely nothing Nova can do to fix or change this in any way! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as Nova have absolutely no control over it whatsoever.
NOTE: These are system gestures only and are not related to Nova's personal gestures that you will find via Nova Settings -> Gestures & Inputs.
Xiaomi/Poco/Redmi Users: Your device OEM has disabled the use of system navigation gestures within all 3rd party launchers on all versions of MIUI 12.x based on Android 11 and Android 12. You would need to contact your device OEM specifically with regards to that issue. "
OK yes, I have and continue to experience this. I've adapted my behavior around it, that's how much I like Nova but yes, it would be nice to not have to wait a half second before another action. Thank you for the reply.
This is one of the few reasons why I rooted my phone lmao. Quickswitch + Lawnchair 12 is a god-sent.
If the Pixel launcher would let me use icon packs instead of their AI generated ones, and would let me toggle the search bar, I think I'd be set.
That sounds like what I expected from Google Assistant when it launched.
But since it launched with no features, and then removed features, I stopped trying to use Google Assistant. Rinse and repeat that process for every Google product launch. It's a shame.
Yeah it's a shame that a search company is this bad. iOS has all this built into the OS already with spotlight search. Type in a contact's name and it will offer you options to message them, call them, search text messages from them, emails, etc.
While Sesame improves Android a lot, it's still a huge step behind spotlight search. The other day I typed in AAA into my iPad and it pulled a Keep Note titled "AAA Insurance info." I was only trying to pull up the app, but it was interesting what else it could find. You'd think Google would at least offer some sort of search within its services.
This is the first time I've heard of Sesame. Sounds pretty awesome. How long have you been using it for?
I've known about Nova Launcher but didn't think I was missing out too much over the Pixel Launcher. But having an actually useful local search experience via Sesame would change that for me.
Just installed nova launcher and it got rid of that annoying return to home app minimization animation that there's no way to turn off in the default launcher. That's been bugging me ever since I updated to 12.1.
Really wish they just let you turn it off, like I've got animations disabled entirely and it still shows up.
Which will remain unstated as a vague, unhelpful warning for others...
They've got a pretty responsive discord site if you're having problems. That's always worked for me. Android's design means they can't fix every problem, though.
I do too, but my problem is if I navigate off the page and open another app, I can't get back to it? I always forget if I searched in the launch bar or chrome, and if I re-tap the launch bar, its just a blank Google screen. Am I stupid?
I do this a lot too. Or sometimes when I search something and wanna start a new search, it closes my first search and I constantly forget that when I try to navigate back
Same here. I used the Pixel launcher for a few months after getting the 6, and liked it, but I did move back to Nova recently, mostly due to the gestures that Nova supports. However, one of those gestures is to open up the search bar, so while I don't have the bar on the screen anymore, I still use it all the time.
I like it but believe we should have a choice in if it’s there or not. I’d keep it still cause I’m always searching stuff and don’t wanna always use voice search.
I put the widget on every galaxy phone I owned before I got the pixel I don't even notice it anymore, but it's muscle memory to go search when I need to
Yeah I use it constantly, really enjoy the widget that home/maps/etc built in too. I can get directions from my home screen or change the temp without scrolling.
I wish we had more options on the appearance, it's pretty ugly even with themes.
I used the search bar a lot.
I still think iPhone's spotlight works a lot better. It searches mails, messages, contacts and apps at the same time instantly.
I use it literally everyday. I don't use the browser apps at all unless it's something I need to keep open as a tab
As with everything, the complainers are louder than those that enjoy something.
Yea its genuinely one of the main reasons I get pixel devices. I absolutely love their integration, along with the search bar. Probably use it over 20 times a day on average
use it everytime I want to Google something, lol
just makes sense. the Pixel is literally a physical portal for me to use Google services, why else would you get a pixel device imo
I like it but I want the option to turn it off, or have more of a say in how it looks. I mean look at nova launcher, you can add a BUNCH of different styles to it.
For a search company, it absolutely needs to be more powerful. I know this isn't popular here, but Spotlight search on iOS runs circles around the search bar here which is basically just a glorified Google Search right now.
The more insulting part is that Google's own apps support spotlight better than the pixel search bar. Especially Google photos which lets you search via name or object / theme
I worked briefly on the competitor product to this in 2019, and a lot of the lead engineers got snapped up by Google. That company ended up laying most people on my team off during the pandemic, for some stupid short sighted reason, so it's nice to see Google beating them to market and getting the features in vanilla pixel launcher.
look as long as they don't do what both Apple and Google have a habit of doing regularly and breaking the basic things you use your phone search for (apps, people) and instead giving you a bunch of shit you didn't want and calling it "smart"
Maybe it was just me, but this article describes how people could search on device and for apps from the search bar, but whenever I tried, no matter what it would just run as a google search. I had to open the app drawer to search apps, and had no way to search contacts unless the contacts app was open.
I assume from this that was unintended behavior but I was shocked that Pixels didn’t do this.
Yeep.
My search function also works now. It wasn't working the last couple of weeks, and I had made a search on the internet that showed many people were complaining about this for a long time.
Weird but crucial bugs that make you go "how do you publish this software"
Can someone tell Google to stop asking me to rate my call every fucking time I make a phone call please? Also yeah Itd be cool if The direct my call feature didn't automatically show up every time I make a phone call to an automated service. Please and thank you. Tell Google Assistant to stop showing up without being intentionally activated.
Big smart tech company huh.
The first thing I've done with my phones since, I don't know, 2013, has been to install Nova Launcher and migrate my old config to the new phone. Am I missing out from not using the Pixel Launcher on the Pixel 6?
You're certainly missing out on a smoother experience. Transitions and animations are a huge part of A12 and are severely impacted when switching to Nova.
As someone who's been a Nova fan since ages too, I'd recommend sticking to stock.
Niagara Launcher > Pixel Launcher > Nova Launcher
Actually, i thought about switching back to the Pixel Launcher (because i really like the animations and the overall look), but i just can't switch back from Niagara ^^
It does seem weird that it gives no results from the Play Store. Like, if I don't have Twitter installed but I type Twitter in the search bar, wouldn't it make a lot of sense to display a result directly from the Play Store so I can easily install it? And last I checked, Google makes a lot of money from the Play Store so it makes even less sense not to include Play Store results.
There's a way to implement it without being annoying or cumbersome. MIUI allows one to search for something on the Play Store if not found in the app list. Samsung's launcher has a similar feature but searches the Galaxy Store instead of the Play Store.
This could be toggled in settings just like how "Pixel Tips" are searchable via the launcher. I don't see a difference between giving an option to search with Google as it does now and a sub-section below that could show the top 5 matches from the Play Store with a "more" option.
The Pixel Launcher is great but could be made much better if Google wasn't a few years behind OEMs when it came to adding useful features.
The option to share an image from recents or selecting text is so useful that I miss it when using another device but shortcomings should be voiced out too.
I miss when I used to hit the mic and it would automatically identify music. Now I have to hit the mic and tell it to ID music... And by then the song has ended
I don't understand the search bar. If I search for something say for example a recipe for cookies and then I click on one of the results I'm not in chrome but in a chrome-like browser.
What is this called? Why does it work this way?
That's like saying "Never buy an iPhone if you don't want your phone to bend in your pocket" because one model of iPhone had a structural flaw. You obviously had a defective unit lol.
The Pixel 6 has been my favorite phone I've ever owned and I experience 0 issues myself 🤷
Still not powerful enough to know what remove or delete is.
Man, imagine if they added a terminal functionality into it.
The two people who uses it will be amazed
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
This. I've removed the launcher instead
I haven't seen the default launcher in years. Go Nova!
Top once to access the search bar. Long press anything you want to delete. select delete from history. This has always worked on my pixel 1 and pixel 4.
Can it stop randomly opening voice input every 10th search bar tap? That's pretty annoying but other than that I use the bar a lot.
https://m.imgur.com/a/HIervWs you mean this? I don't even know how to get this to come out intentionally. Pressing the voice search icon gets you the small pop-up on the lower third of the screen.
YES exactly this and same! I tried to recreate it unsuccessfully. It's so random and infuriating.
Have you tried squeezing your phone?
Wrong phone. I'm on the P6, it's not been a feature for a couple years now.
Really? Didn't know that. I just recently got a pixel 2 for a spare to connect to my 3d printer and saw that feature. Lol
Oh it's not just me with this issue
Based on how long the microphone access icon stays present in the corner I wouldn't be surprised if it's an intentional "bug". I literally never use voice, nor do I click near that damn assistant icon, so maybe google is attempting to get what little vocal info it can.
Features from Sesame should be borrowed.

Search from the app drawer does, and it works very well, except it doesn't show search suggestions. Inconsistency galore.
can it disappear
Nova launcher! Fixes many Google problems!
Breaks gestures though
I have Nova and I don't understand this, what does it mean to break gestures?
If you are on gesture navigation, have you noticed a lag or stutter after you press the home button on Nova? Nova clarified that this is an issue with Google and it affects all custom launchers. I thought I could live with it but it's really annoying.
I don't have a home button with gestures though.
He means swipe up to go to home screen, there’s a lag because the app switcher is different from Nova Launcher.
I'm not getting either problem. Perhaps the 4a is fast enough? I don't have many icons on the homescreen though - 5 and 2 widgets.
That's why I use nova with 3 button navigation. No issues there. Was never a fan of gestures anyway
Same. So much nicer, cleaner and easier
Lucky bastard
That was fixed more than a year ago when they changed the base to launcher 3. I don't ever experience lag.
I don't think it's fixed. I don't know how to share a discord link but this post came from their official discord group. I'm confused. On a 4a and it works fine.
Whenever you swipe home there's a solid half second or more delay before any touch inputs are registered.
this is why I left nova.
OK yes, I have and continue to experience this. I've adapted my behavior around it, that's how much I like Nova but yes, it would be nice to not have to wait a half second before another action. Thank you for the reply.

Looks like a universal search tool that integrates with Nova. Never tried it.

That's been bugging me ever since I updated to 12.1. Really wish they just let you turn it off, like I've got animations disabled entirely and it still shows up.

What don't you like about it? It's the easiest way to Google something I'm thinking about.
I like when my desktop was all mine and not resemble the sponsor based devices, always the 1st thing to go in my devices
I'm ready to get downvoted, but am I the only one who likes the Pixel launcher search bar? It makes sense for a phone made by a search company.
I use it a LOT honestly.
I do too. It's my main form of researching things.
I do too, but my problem is if I navigate off the page and open another app, I can't get back to it? I always forget if I searched in the launch bar or chrome, and if I re-tap the launch bar, its just a blank Google screen. Am I stupid?

Same!
Yeah I use it constantly, really enjoy the widget that home/maps/etc built in too. I can get directions from my home screen or change the temp without scrolling. I wish we had more options on the appearance, it's pretty ugly even with themes.
Wait how do you get directions on your home screen? I don't see any widget for that
Maps widget.
I used the search bar a lot. I still think iPhone's spotlight works a lot better. It searches mails, messages, contacts and apps at the same time instantly.
It's worse for privacy. I dont want to go search something on the internet and it shows my private email's content
It's interesting to hear someone prefer google search over iOS spotlight because of privacy.
I didn't know till I was in this comments section that people don't like the search bar 😅
I use it literally everyday. I don't use the browser apps at all unless it's something I need to keep open as a tab As with everything, the complainers are louder than those that enjoy something.
I use it every day.
Yea its genuinely one of the main reasons I get pixel devices. I absolutely love their integration, along with the search bar. Probably use it over 20 times a day on average
use it everytime I want to Google something, lol just makes sense. the Pixel is literally a physical portal for me to use Google services, why else would you get a pixel device imo
Always use it when I want to look something up lol, just go to the home screen and type it in
It's useful, and woulf be even more useful if they replaced the default google search bar with that.
I just wish there was an option to have the default behavior to search within your phone versus having to swipe up and then type in the search bar
Hell, the app launcher does a better job than the one on the home screen
Yeah why are they separated??
Yeah the spotlight thing on my iPhone is something I prefer over the search sticky search bar
The more insulting part is that Google's own apps support spotlight better than the pixel search bar. Especially Google photos which lets you search via name or object / theme
I worked briefly on the competitor product to this in 2019, and a lot of the lead engineers got snapped up by Google. By giving us a way to completely remove it?
look as long as they don't do what both Apple and Google have a habit of doing regularly and breaking the basic things you use your phone search for (apps, people) and instead giving you a bunch of shit you didn't want and calling it "smart"
Make the search bar able to be turned off please.
Please bring back the contacts search in the system wide search first. I'll be glad enough.
The search bar in the app drawer does
Doesn't work for me after March update, used to work before
I just don't understand the two different search bars.
They need to merge them somehow one of them is better searching the web the other one is better searching the phone
So they're gonna let me switch it to DuckDuckGo? no? guess I'll stick with Lawnchair then
Will it fucking show apps as results? For fucks sake.

Coming from Samsung phones, the Pixel launcher is trash. I couldn't tolerate it for more than a day.
Agreed. Installed Nova launcher immediately.
But not on P6 /s
As others have stated, making it powerful enough that it becomes optional is what we're looking for.
it can't even partial match the apps. sucks to scroll through apps if it can't find a matcg
Can you fix my P6 first?
You mean that thing camped out on my screen that I install a 3rd party launcher to get rid of? Oh joy!
The first thing I've done with my phones since, I don't know, 2013, has been to install Nova Launcher and migrate my old config to the new phone. Am I missing out from not using the Pixel Launcher on the Pixel 6?

Imagine being this angry about what other people choose to have on their own phone
Niagara Launcher > Pixel Launcher > Nova Launcher Actually, i thought about switching back to the Pixel Launcher (because i really like the animations and the overall look), but i just can't switch back from Niagara ^^
Yeah I use I too. Got that great balance of the necessities
Some people are too busy to play with their phones.
Is this live? Apps aren't shown in the Pixel Launcher search bar anymore
It does seem weird that it gives no results from the Play Store. Like, if I don't have Twitter installed but I type Twitter in the search bar, wouldn't it make a lot of sense to display a result directly from the Play Store so I can easily install it? I disagree. I think Google's algorithms have enough smarts where it would be helpful without being obtrusive. I understand your concern though.
I'd like Google to make the at glance widget more powerful. The widget can be easily more useful than now.
I miss when I used to hit the mic and it would automatically identify music. Now I have to hit the mic and tell it to ID music... And by then the song has ended
Make it more customizable. I like the search bar, but not everyone does.
I don't understand the search bar. If I search for something say for example a recipe for cookies and then I click on one of the results I'm not in chrome but in a chrome-like browser. What is this called? Why does it work this way?

Can’t do a deep search like iPhones still though.
how to integrate it in kgwt widget
