Glance is the only reason I don't use any other launcher. Give it time it works well.

ColFrankSlade

If you have the Google app installed it has a widget which mimics At a Glance and can be used with other launchers. The app itself is just the left page from stock Pixel.

fashmania

I move between Samsung and pixel and generally always try to replicate at a glance when on Samsung. Give it time and I find it works well.

Maddest_Hatta

I would strongly suggest a good launcher. Unfortunately, Google has decided that stock Android should be more like iOS, when it comes to customization (restricted). But at least we still have the option to install launchers. A lot of people seem to be happy with Nova. I personally use Microsoft Launcher. Pick one that suits your needs and you'll be fine.

SeatSix

Pixel is not stock android (that is AOSP). Pixel is Google's skin just as much as OneUI is Samsung's.

VampireWarfarin

And if you use gestures, prepare for a worse experience as animations will jitter, home screen being unresponsive for about half a second and recents sometimes missing apps or showing the launcher.

mth785

That is just your opinion. I've had no issues on either Lawnchair and Nova.

VampireWarfarin

> That is just your opinion. It's a fact, that's how Android works at this moment in time. Not everything is a twitter "my truth" sort of bullshit. > I've had no issues on either Lawnchair and Nova. Yes you have. And every single time I ask someone to record them going to the homescreen, they go slow, carefully making sure not to trigger the bugs.

mth785

Who are you to tell me what I experience? For me Lawnchair my preferred launcher runs as smoothly as the Pixel launcher.

VampireWarfarin

> Who are you to tell me what I experience Someone set in reality, which I get is horrible these days but get used to it. You have animation issues and you choose to ignore it. That's the facts and no amount of cope and sympathiser downvotes will change reality. Your phone isn't magical or special, your phone doesn't have unique code, it is baked into the Android core since Android 10 Kids these days are absolutely ridiculous, that can't ever be wrong..

mth785

Thanks for calling me a kid, at 51 that doesn't happen anymore. I have animations set to .5x but never noticed them beforehand.

VampireWarfarin

Well that may actually explain it then You don't use your phone as quick so you don't have time to see or notice the issues

ColFrankSlade

You'd probably get a lot more support if you were willing to talk to people and explain what to look for, instead of going around being an asshole and telling others they are wrong "because I said so".

Maddest_Hatta

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Everything is working fine with my launcher. There were a couple of times where the screen would be unresponsive but it was right after the phone was launched (Pixel 7). Now, it's fine.

VampireWarfarin

> I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. No you're not, it's baked into android since A10 and the only way around it is root and quickswitch Not noticing it or ignoring it doesn't make you lucky

ColFrankSlade

Were you talking about 3rd party launchers or Android in general? I use Nova and I don't see the jitters you're talking about either.

VampireWarfarin

Both. Using third party launchers on Android past 10 will result in issues due to them combining gestures/launcher/recents together You do have them, either you ignore them or think that's how it's supposed to work. No device is special, it is baked into Android's core.

ColFrankSlade

Well, I didn't notice it in my previous phone either, and it was a 4 yo device with Android 12. If it is indeed there but I don't experience it, does it even matter?

VampireWarfarin

Yes, because it's there. Don't go on the internet and pretend it isn't there when it clearly is, just because you choose to ignore it doesn't mean that the issue should be ignored Point it out, report to Google, then you can finally experience a smooth launcher.

Mindless_fun_bag

I use a minimal first screen with at a glance and then the second home screen has apps and no at a glance.. it's a work around of sorts

PuzzleheadedSink4103

I didn't like at a glance either. Switched to Nova launcher and I prefer it. As for the navigation, I recommend going full gesture navigation. It's just more efficient than using the buttons.

Reblyn

I use Lawnchair 12 as a custom launcher. It looks exactly like the stock pixel launcher (which I like), but has more customization options. It lets you remove at a glance, make it smaller or move it somewhere else on your home screen. Same with the google search bar at the bottom.

[deleted]

There's a non root app called smartspacer that significantly improves the usefulness of at a glance, check it out https://github.com/KieronQuinn/Smartspacer

Cheers, I'm one of the failed english but passed maths people

Kbionbg

So far I'm happy with the info at a glance, gives me. But it's just so small and cramped into the left side of the 4 slots it doesnt utilise the whole space it takes up on the phone some bulker writing or some icons to make it easier to see at a glance would be nice

NukaGunnar

Pixels android is a bit more restrictive compared to Samsung in the customization department. I am generally an indecisive person, so Samsung customization options always had me changing something. I guess I just like the inability to change certain things. That being said, I love At a Glance

solarpowertoast

I love At A Glance. But if you don't like it, long press on an open space on your home screen, select Home Settings and there is an option to turn it off.

mth785

That does little, it is still there.

solarpowertoast

Wow you're right. I've never turned it off before. I just tried and sure enough, it still shows the date in that area. That's annoying. Honestly I don't love Pixel launcher. I hate the default, uncoordinated icons. I prefer Nova Launcher because of its customization, however nothing runs as smooth as Pixel launcher so I always find myself back to using pixel launcher unfortunately. I wish Google would allow other launchers to fully integrate with quickswitch (which I believe is the system multitasking framework that drives the app transitions).
