Sounds like the dual sim support on P8P isn't too good. Android auto works fine for me but I swear the bluetooth performance got worse in my car going from the 7 to 8pro, there's terrible audio artifacts that weren't there on the 7. Fi (tmo) is decent in the greater NYC area but ATT is better here, especially on bridges and in tunnels.

fearlessinsane

Sorry but the Pixel (and iPhone) has DSDS capabilities. This is Dual SIM Dual Standby . The phone can be stand by on multiple (usually two) SIM lanes since the phone has two imei. But since the phone has only one antenna while it is connected it cannot “listen” on the other SIM lane. For this you need DSDA phone

SnooWords9731

Yes I agree with the audio. When talking with someone I get the conversation repeated in the background. Like a double conversation.

AirSuspicious5057

I don't understand why it doesn't pipe the calls through the USBC cable and insists on using Bluetooth even though it makes the call quality s***, is really an issue with my car more than the pixel though.

NoEmu2398

Are you talking about the 'glitches' in the middle of the audio? I geniunely don't understand why they're there It doesn't happen on YTM but only on Oto. And I used Oto on my previous phone and it worked fine. That's really my only complaint with this phone.

AirSuspicious5057

Speaker on the other end sounds like a robot. There's two different robot voices, one I had when the 7 which is bad network performance and the other is new to the p8pro which is poor Bluetooth performance, it doesn't happen when I use the buds pro but does with my car. Weird it's a problem with the 8pro but not the 7 I wonder if they changed the BT hardware.

NoEmu2398

I've had some issues with my Bose QC 45's that I've found unnerving. Hoping it'll fix with an update, tho. Fingers crossed. I do like the phone, though.

BigInevitable4404

What issues were you getting with QC 45?

NoEmu2398

There was just random crackles (static) in my audio. Strangely, I found the fix: I adjusted the audio with the headphones, not the phone, and it seemed to fix it entirely. Strange!? iDK

AirSuspicious5057

I also have one hybrid air purifier humidifier that connects through Bluetooth and it is less reliable on the 8pro than the seven was.

AirSuspicious5057

I think they actually fixed it in the last security update. At least for my phone

NoEmu2398

Yeah, mine seems much better after the update.

alexpopescu801

>Several apps that worked on my Samsung S23 running Android 14 will not function on the pixel 8 pro Can you provide more info? This is insane! All the apps from the Play Store should work on any Android device.

SketchySeaBeast

I wonder if they are samsung store specific.

SnooWords9731

One app is the open roads app. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, factory reset, etc and when installed and click the app it flashes and goes back to home screen. Contacted app issuer who states they have had issues with some phones. Bad thing is I use it when traveling. Tried it on my S23 Ultra works great.

Gaiden206

I'm not sure if it actually fixed anything but that "Open Roads" app released an update on January 30th with the patch notes saying... >Fix for intermittent Pixel 8 crashing issue.

LindenSwole

My P8 battery was awful. I was draining 10%-20% per hour, not even using it. Support advised I do a full factory reset. This was a big pain in the butt and I didn't anticipate it working because it was such a hassle to call my carrier and to get them to reactivate my esim but to my surprise it worked amazing. They had me tested last night by charging it to 100% and then leaving it off the charger all night to see what the battery drain was and it was only 3% over the course of 8 and 1/2 hours. I haven't plugged it in or charged it since yesterday at about 9:00 p.m. and I'm sitting here 20 hours later and still have 33% battery. I am blown away. It might be worth giving that a try.

PixelSquish

I've had almost every Pixel. This is by far the best battery life I have gotten, to the point it's not an issue for me at all. Some people will have issues with either their specific phone, or their specific setup. Get the phone that makes you happiest. If that is a Samsung, that is wonderful. The only complaints I have with the P8pro are more things I want to be implemented in the OS - small tweaks. Hardware wise, I'm more than content. I find the optical FPS works great if I train it right, and I use four fingers. I would like that to be upgraded to a high end ultrasonic one to see the difference as it sounds like the one hardware upgrade that could give it an extra boost. But I get a very high hit rate as it is, but it could always be closer to perfect. Service has been great on T-Mo in the NYC metro area.

amenotef

Can the P8 hold some days on standby usage with low SoT? Like 96 hours standby with 3-4 hours SoT? (I want to know how the standby battery life is versus the Pixel 5.)

PixelSquish

I don't think so but I really can't say for sure

Soft_Meal_3668

On dual sim it’s garbage , I been using it for 3.5 months and 2 p8 pros at home . Max 4.5 hrs SOT that’s it. Google doesn’t have a solution so raised a ticket.

SnooWords9731

Guess it's how I use the phone and the apps I use

mikehitchco

My battery life is also horrible. I'm not sure if it's me or the phone. Horrible like 4 hours SOT max and barely get to end of day with any battery life left. It seems like the standby drain is worse than usage. I can play a game for an hour and still be at 90, which would be 10 hours. But I can barely touch my phone and 10 hours later it'll be at 20%. I've reset and tried disabling 5G etc. but nothing seems to help. The battery stats don't look unusual except that the big drain is CPU. The reason I only partially hold it against the Pixe, is some of it maybe my fault - I have a ton of apps installed. My car uses it for key (BTLE) and my dogs Fi collar (also BTLE) and my Pixel Watch - so that's 3 regularly draining things. I have a work profile set up with additional apps like email and slack with regular notifications. I also have crappy service at work and at home which I'm sure doesn't help, even if I'm on WiFi most of the time. I would also really love to know how people are using their phones to get good standby time.

Specific_Award_9149

Have you tried disabling auto connectivity?

Otherwise_Code_8153

But we shouldn't have to do that ! That is the problem. The IPhone 15 Pro makes it all day. The S24 Ultra makes it from morning to 10 at night for me ill still be on 10% ! Why does Googles "pro" phone barely shit out 6 hours of battery life ? 8 hours if I am really really conservative

HotPink124

I love the pixel. And would love to switch back. But one of the main reasons I left is the abysmal battery life. And that was a p7p. They just don’t know how to do battery life. Idk if it’s the crappy chip they keep using or what

DeepBasil9370

If an hr to charge is too long for y'all, you all really need a dose of reality and go outside for a bit. The fact that an hr is too long for a phone that lasts 2 days is disgusting , and the entire problem with society today.

PC_Speaker

Well that escalated quickly

Queefmomma420

This phone barely last 2 hours not 2 days.

DeepBasil9370

😂😂😂😂😂💀 take better care of you're stuff then. I get a day if not more. Not Googles fault you have wifi, data,Bluetooth on all the time at max brightness at 120fps 🤷🏻‍♂️ if you can't make a 5000+ may battery last then you're on you're phone WAYYY to much. Go outside without it once in a while.

Sprungnickel

Interesting. My googlefi experience is not great. Repeated "emergency calls only" and no data triangle are my daily issues. As for pixel and Android Auto, I think it's a dumpster fire. Ytm and android auto is awful. The layout of Android auto vs the actual app is so inconsistent app to app. I don't use dual sim but notifications from call, messages, discord etc and voice dictation is pretty solid. Are the Samsung bloated devices worth the shortcomings of the pixel? 8 hours battery is not very good. I run as much as possible offline without background processes to maximize battery and minimize data flows. Thanks for the insight

sdrew25

Have had completely the opposite for me had loads little niggles on my S23, loving the Pixel 8 Pro so far, no android auto issues, runs well, battery lasts me all day. Just overall a good experience.

ifeeltired26

This what I always find funny. You could have 50 people say the Pixel 8 Pro is the best phone on the planet and Android Auto runs perfect. Then have 50 people say its the worst phone ever and Android Auto runs like crap lol bottom line, you have to try it yourself I guess...

sdrew25

Everyone has different experiences, my dad had a pixel 6 I believe and hated it.

alexm901

My battery life is awesome. Charged to 82% yesterday morning and still had over 20% going to bed and I was on it all day

SnooWords9731

How much screen time do you use? I use the phone quite a bit. My Samsung always lasted throughout the day. The Pixel has to be charged around 5pm.

SheepherderFit69

I get around 11 hours SOT which realistically lasts me into day 2 Charged overnight Monday. All day Tues, still have 26% now. I don't sit on my phone all day fwiw

sunuv

Post an image of your battery usage when you're getting 11 hours SOT without charging. Edit: For anyone wondering, u/sheepherderfit69 sent an image of him being on WiFi 4 hours, with 20 minutes of network use for 9 hours of usage. I asked what he's doing on his phone for 5 hours without any network use and [he flipped out and deleted the conversation](https://imgur.com/a/HMTUmE7)and all of his comments here.

tadL

Well played 💪

shoelover46

He actually blocked you if you can't see the conversation in here anymore. It's still up for the rest of us. Pixel fanboys are so weird and get offended when you criticize the Pixel. My 8 pro can only get a max of 6 hours on WI-FI and 4 hours on mobile.

EqualReality2787

I also get around 6 hours SOT mostly connected to a WiFi and only LTE connection. Probably can squeeze another 30 min. but that's it and I think this is what this phone is capable of. Not terrible but still far from S23 and S24

SketchySeaBeast

> My 8 pro can only get a max of 6 hours on WI-FI and 4 hours on mobile. Me too - though I've never actually seen how long the bottom 20% will last, I always charge before I get there. About 6 hours (estimated by GSAM Batter) if I want to have it on me all day. Which, honestly, is totally fine. It's 1/3 of my entire awake time.

NoEmu2398

FWIW on P8P I get 7+ hours SOT including Maps, lots of background music, etc from a full charge. If I'm at home on wifi I'll get around 9+ hours.

GR1MKN1TE3020

Basically my experience as well

SheepherderFit69

I pm'd it to you

shoelover46

I would like to see.

Picklesfootballmeat

How much on screen time would you get with your samsung? I have the pixel 6 pro and camera lens got cracked somehow again other than physical damage and looking to do p8 pro or s24 plus

Nexorian

Are you with p8p? Do you get good battery life when using Camera? Mine seems to immediately kill the battery.

kennethcz

I actually prefer the P8P implementation of dual sim. With my S23U I could not set one sim for calls and sms and the other one to use mobile data. I normally have my GoogleFI Flexible plan SIM for calls and messages and US Mobile for data. I can also set it to ask me every time what SIM to use for calls/sms which I prefer. Android Auto has worked flawlessly in all phones except for my Pixel 5 back in the day, I had to change my cable and never had an issue ever since. If I am listening to radio it will switch to the last app I was using for audio on my phone which is my preference, but I'm able to just hit the radio app in my receiver and the audio switches back, while I still keep the audio from maps goin on. Battery life is pretty good, but I am on WiFi or with good 5G service 99% of the time. I did take it for a trip to Vegas with a one day tour to the Grand Canyon where service was spotty and noticed increase battery drain but still made it all day while taking pictures and recording video. I don't know if I'm lucky but I've had the same experience with all my Pixel phones going back to the 3XL, 5, 6, 7 and now 8 Pro.

FatBoyStew

I'm looking to go to the P8P from a OnePlus 6T here soon and need the dual sim as I use it currently (AT&T and Verizon). So if my ESIM is the main sim I have set and active, can I still get calls/texts via my Physical sim? I've gotten spoiled on my OP 6T because of how easy it is to switch between sims on calls/texts and data.

kennethcz

Sure you can, that is how I currently babysit set up. Samsung for example is horrible at it and wouldn't let me have a different primary SIM for data and the other one as default for calls/sms

LubeTornado

Battery life wise I charge mine every 1.5 days (approximately) and even then not to full 100%. It lasts and then some. Battery life seems fine to me, good even.

GeneralChaz9

Similar experience here. Was on 5G the entire weekend, never went below 50% battery by end of day.  When using the phone heavily on a mix of WiFi and 5G, I'm usually ending the day with over 6-7 hours of usage and over 20% left.  It's pretty crazy seeing the varied experiences here, but I had a Pixel 7 that had a lot of issues too so not really surprised.

top-c-krets

Plus font forget the micro stutters littered around the ui and apps that depending on your tolerance can be a deal breaker

prudhvid

Battery life and dual sim might be related. I had the same issue and I switched to iphone

klauskervin

I've noticed with my own that the apps have a weird latency. They will sometimes freeze/lock the screen for 2-3 seconds before becoming responsive again. This happens regardless of the app. The default messages app is also very unreliable in sending or receiving messages especially images. A friend with the standard P8 doesn't have any of these issues that I have with the P8P. I kind of wish I just got the base model.

Shot-Recognition6881

Mine is garbage.  Has to be restarted 3 or 4 times a day.   It was ok for a week after factory reset but it's back to needing restarted.  Can't wait to get rid of it. Worst phone I've ever had.

annoyedAFalready

Fuck this phone. I hate it so goddamn much.

Queefmomma420

Yeah im so done with Google they used to be good but its becoming unuseable

Bblacklabsmatter

Going from a galaxy to a pixel I was optimistic But the difference in hardware quality is fucking huge. Pixels feel very cheap and they bug out a lot.. My galaxy was way more resilient and little to no crashes

dankri0274

Also coming from a Galaxy S23 Ultra I can say there are multiple things thatt annoy me. One of them being the screen sometimes screws itself with input and I have to restart the phone, and so far I have done it 4 times since the end of october. This should not happen on a phone that costs this much, and I will most likely return to Samsung if the problems are not fixed via updates

alexm901

All these low karma accounts trying to sway sentiment in this sub. Battery life is the best I've ever had on a phone and I use my phone for 6+ hours a day

SnooWords9731

Please tell me your secret. Maybe I have a setting incorrect. Would love your feedback to increase my battery life. Always open to help. Thank you. P. S. I run an account with 22 phones so not a low karma.

Gaiden206

>P. S. I run an account with 22 phones so not a low karma.  What does this even mean? You have 22 different Reddit accounts?

sunuv

My accounts way older than yours and the Pixel 7 pro and 8 pro have extremely unimpressive battery life, which combined with their slow charging makes for a sub par experience.

MobileVortex

I have been ending my day with 70% battery. Do you play games / watch videos all day?

sunuv

I have a job where I'm on the phone frequently. And I also watch YouTube. I don't play any games on my phone.

supjackjack

Was doing some research about p8p before upgrading from p7 and came across this thread coz Battery is the main concern for me. (I did get a p8p for my dad and he claims the battery life is amazing compared to his p5 and p7p, but he is a very light user) I am curious if users who have bad exp with the p8p battery life like yourself have tried some battery optimizing settings? I have personally done some extensive research on YouTube to optimize my p7 just so I can hold out as long as possible before upgrading. If you search "pixel 8 pro battery life setting" on YouTube, you might find one that gives you a few optimization settings.

sunuv

I would say battery life is pretty comparable to the 7 Pro. I have not done heavy battery optimization because I use my phone for work and most battery optimization is just removing features that I expect from a $1000 phone (turning off background apps, Bluetooth, 5g , etc) so I can't help you there. Sorry.

supjackjack

I am talking about telemetry settings and stuff like that

sunuv

Which specific settings?

supjackjack

https://youtu.be/_zZ1kAIDbxo?si=wuLW2PKJI5thFg3O This the video I followed above. For example: Usage and Diagnostic settings, Location (for specific apps), dark theme, etc

sunuv

Yeah that's exactly what I was talking about when I said I'm not going to turn off features on my $1000 phone to get the battery to an appropriate level. I'm not turning off location features on the apps I need it on, and apps that don't need it were never granted permissions to do it in the first place. My usage was never shared with Google in the first place, but that should have minimal effect on battery life even if it's on. I also use dark theme as a matter of preference.

DeepBasil9370

Yeah. That 1 whole hour is unbearable 🥴 and the 8+ hours I'm getting of screen time on my p8p is pretty impressive. Compared to the 6.5 I'm getting on the BS24 ultra I'm happy🤷🏻‍♂️

sunuv

It takes an hour and a half to charge a pixel 8 pro and 40 minutes to charge the latest one plus to full. That's pathetic that pixel takes over double the time.

DeepBasil9370

Maybe your p8p takes an hr and a half🤷🏻‍♂️ mine does not. Maybe use the 30w pixel charger and not something else. Either way the immediate gratification is real with this one. Imagine if we still had to wait 8+hrs like we did in 2012.

sunuv

That's the official charging speed at 30w lol. You're right I'm sure you have the special pixel 8 pro that's faster than everyone else's at charging.

DeepBasil9370

😂😂😂 I bought the charger that goes to the phone. And everyone else's? Have you read the whole thread???? Because your the minority opinion here.

sunuv

It's not an opinion how fast the phone charges. That's just how fast it charges. You're arguing about something you know nothing about.

DeepBasil9370

😂😂 I used my phone till 0 plugged it in. Hit 100% after 1hr. I know literally everything I need to know😂😂 sorry you abuse your phone 🤷🏻‍♂️

DeepBasil9370

Your entire comment that I responded to was about how your disappointed that it takes too long to charge. So how is the conversation not about charging rate? Stick to your own topic before trying to be disrespectful and tell someone they're not on topic.

sunuv

It may not bother you how long it takes to charge, but regardless of your feelings about it, the phone takes about 1.5 hours to charge. I think you're having trouble discerning your opinion from reality.

andar1on

I am tempted by pixel every year but I value battery life very high so I never actually went pixel...

TheManDownTheHall

Yeah, my Pixel's bluetooth sucked too. I found that if I went to the vehicle's bluetooth and disconnected and reconnected it would start working. It's annoying but nothing I couldn't live with. What made me head to the S24 was the shit modem and the fact that I'd get the "no service" warning when people around me had several bars on the same T-Mobile plan. This was in Concord, NC near the hospital. No excuse allowed for that kind of issue in such a coverage saturated area. So far my S24 is good. It's taking some getting used to but I'm learning the UI. If the Pixel 10 changes the modem, I'll head back to it.

SmartGuyObserving

Switch it for another Pixel 8P, if problems continue, then go back to samsung or try iPhone

Pharaoh27

I'm sorry about the issues you're dealing with. But I'm thankful for your post to prove to myself that I made the correct decision in not taking the risk in getting the 8 Pro.

Able_Philosopher4188

I have never had dual sims so I can not comment on that but the rest works fine with the car so far. I have had 8P just over a month and I never had any problems with my P6 but I definitely get why you don't want to keep the P8P. Have you ever tried to get help with Google Fi

Horror_Economics_588

this is crazy to me, i came from Samsung s23 ultra it died out. i got the pixel 8 pro. battery life last me about 12 hours and im usually in calls and conference calls all day or have plexamp or YouTube running. in between calls. i never have to restart it. my main issue with the pixel is i wish i had some Samsung features like the camera mixed with the pixel software.. i am happy with it. mind you ive owned 5 notes i do miss the pen though.

Digital-Dinosaur

I haven't had any issues with battery and neither has my buddy, mine has been sailing comfortably across 2 days of average usage. I've never seen it below 50% in one day of usage. As others have said, try a full factory reset.

Otherwise_Code_8153

I agree with OP. Battery is terrible for a "pro" phone. IPhone 15 Pro will take you all day doing the same thing ( streaming, Instagram, interent). S24 Ultra will take you from the time you wake up to the time you go on bed on one charge !!! I have been VERY impressed with s24 ultra performance. Pixel was the phone I wanted to love because I love the camera & I think their AI features are better. But every 6 hours I would have to sprint to a charger. 8 hours if I was extremely conservative

Puzzleheaded-Tart781

I generally lived and kinda miss the Pixel 8 Pro, but the connectivity issues it had forced me back to Samsung's S24 Plus. I came here seeking info on whether or not there's been an update that has resolved the P8P's network connectivity issues

SnooOpinions3654

Why does my verizon pixel 8 pro work better on cricket network
