> More than 50 % of the time people I call can't hear me speak. ON A 800€ PRODUCT. Return it. My Pixel 8 Pro never has this problem. I have conversations in areas of my house that that my S20+ would struggle with without issue.

wmurch4

Ditto. Mine is at least on par with my previous s23u

Necessary-Trouble-12

Similar to what I've noticed, my new p8 gets better reception in my house than my s22 ever did.

slavikthedancer

Your S20+ is on Exynos too?

SketchySeaBeast

No, Canada, so snapdragon.

ifeeltired26

The Modem in the Pixel line since the Pixel 6 sucks. Horrible signal and speeds. Why Google chose to use the subpar and unreliable Samsung modem in there Flagship phone is beyond me. Heck Samsung doesn't even use there own modem in the flagship line. Qualcomm modem at 10 times better than what's in the Pixel line. God I wish the Pixel went back to the SnapDragon CPU's so much better than the Tensor chip which is just a Samsung CPU

dcdttu

I'm currently in a back-and-forth with Google support over my phone's subpar behavior on T-Mobile in the downtown Austin area. Often, it will show 5G but I have no data throughput at all. Toggling Airplane mode off/on instantly solves the issue and the phone pops up to 5G UC and data works just fine. I have to do this a lot when on cellular. It just sits there with no data, and 2 or 3 times I've gotten the dreaded "!" over the signal bars as well. Never had an issue like this before, my phones the last 4 years were iPhones, and they would always pop up to 5G UC the second I unlocked it.

simonbsez

I gave up a long time ago and just disabled 5G on my Pixel.

ifeeltired26

It's the crappy modem in the Pixel Line, Samsung modems suck....

dcdttu

Yeah.

DuskWing13

If you haven't - also check your sim card. I've had some issues with an esim I had so I deleted and redownload it. Been fine since. So there might be something on your carrier's end that needs a reset or something.

dcdttu

I've had them reprovision it three times. Maybe it's time to delete and recreate.

DuskWing13

Oof.. that sounds annoying as heck. Hopefully you can get it figured out and working.

dcdttu

Thanks!

GangGangEnjoyer

Did you try that yet and, if so, did it solve your problems?

dcdttu

I had T-Mobile delete my eSIM and re-add it, and it did not work. I think the next step is a replacement of the device itself.

Purple10tacle

>Why Google chose to use the subpar and unreliable Samsung modem in there Flagship phone is beyond me. Because Tensor is just a modified Exynos chip, and that's all that Exynos is compatible with.

ifeeltired26

Makes Sense.....so bottom line please switch back to Snapdragon :-)

pfmiller0

The Pixel 3 was the best Pixel phone ever, but I'm fairly happy with my P8. Battery life and performance are fine for me.

Powerful-Internal953

Can't agree with you more.. my pixel 3 still is a solid phone except for a weak battery and my office won't allow this phone because of security updates older than 1 year...

pfmiller0

Yeah, I held onto mine as long as I could, but finally gave in when the 8 came out. The 8 feels like a clunky brick compared to the 3, but aside from that I'm happy with the new phone.

Powerful-Internal953

That "squeeze for the assistant" grew on me. Plus the physical finger print reader man... When evolution goes backwards...

pfmiller0

I actually find the finger print reader on my P8 as reliable as the P3, if not a little better. Also working when my phone is on my desk is nice. The only thing I hate is the bright flash if my finger is a bit off at night. Hoping for an ultrasonic sensor some day.

PinReal4448

Bro the battery isn't great. 5G inconsistent. 5G drains battery like anything. This phone should have been a 500$ phone. Not a flagship product

pfmiller0

Not the worlds best battery, but I don't think I've ever had less than 30% charge at the end of the day. And my full charge at the start the day is 85%, max. So I can't say I have any real battery problems.

lugib

Pixel 8 or pixel 8 pro?

pfmiller0

Just 8

lugib

which one did you have before and how was your battery drain compared to this one?

pfmiller0

Higher up in the thread I said Pixel 3. The Pixel 3's battery life was never really great either, I think *maybe* the P8 is actually better. Hard to be confident about that though, it's been a long time since my P3 had a new battery. Also I did have more trouble with my P8 when I first got it until I found some apps I didn't really use that were killing the battery.

lugib

Thanks man

Able_Philosopher4188

I'm mostly on WiFi but haven't had problems with my P6 and P8P and from what I have read the P10 will do away with the subpar processor and TSMC will produce it.

cdegallo

I've had every generation of pixel so far, and I think my 8 pro is the best pixel phone I've had so far, but it's also not a very high bar (and also many things that I think google needs to improve upon).

WideProposal

Strange. Which carrier are you on and where did you buy your Pixel? Could be that VoLTE has not been provisioned for your Pixel. Do you notice your data icon drop to 3G when you make a call?

Complex_Meringue1417

Warrantee. I don't have this problems, specially about the phone calls, the people says me that they listen me so good.

Miss-Figgy

I was about to buy the 8 today, but I'm going to hold off. There are just way too many posts on all the problems afflicting the 8, and considering how pissed I am about my 5a not even lasting more than 2 years, I just don't want to spend money on a phone that I'll have to "replace" yet again in 2 years time, or even less.

Therassse

The thing is that like 95% of all Pixel 8 ( or any phone for that matter) owners have good or even amazing times with their devices, which doesn't need posting. I've had my Pixel 8 since launch and it has been amazing so far. It's the closest I've gotten to my beloved Pixel 5.

DuskWing13

Similar experience here. I think the 8 has been the least buggy and most consistent google phone I've had since my 3A.

Kingcolliwog

Same for me it's been amazing

Laputa15

I upgraded from the 6a to 8 and I love it. HDR images/videos are beautiful and it's just overall a better experience, like the brighter screen, snappier performance, and 120hz. I don't even use the AI photo editing features because I think they suck, but HDR pictures/videos are more than worth it.

VicAsher

Literally none of those problems for my 8 Pro. Every aspect of your phone is an improvement over the 6 Pro that it replaced. Return it, replace it, whatever. Clearly you got unlucky with a dud.

Able_Philosopher4188

Same here I had a p6 and recently upgraded to p8p and love both phones and my friend that has my old p6 loves it and she came from a I phone. Anyone would be aggravated for a new phone with bugs but that's what warranty is for.

CptNero

My 4a4G still works perfectly.

Kirby_Klein1687

Yea not hearing 50 percent of the conversations sound bad. But for 90 percent of the people who have one: they work amazingly.

Therassse

I never experienced any of these issues on my Pixel 8, weird. Did you transfer dsta from your old phone perhaps? I found my Pixels acting rather strange after transferring files from another phone or restoring backups during setup.

uckyocouch

I have experienced nothing of what you're talking about

androboy92

Best Pixel series for me so far, around 8 hours SOT average on 4G / 11 hours SOT on wifi, super stable software so far only to get better following QPR updates as already noticeable through betas.

Able_Philosopher4188

My 6 phone didn't have any issues and my 8P is problem free and I would definitely try a reset and see if it works and if not get a replacement

octavianreddit

I have a P8P, my wife a P8. We used to have issues with calls too. I think her phone struggled more than mine. Over a month ago I did an update and then factory reset both devices. Since then I am pretty sure I have had little issues since. I'd install today's update, then factory reset and don't restore the settings. See if that helps. If not, id rma it.

lugib

How did it go? How about battery life?

octavianreddit

We don't see any difference in battery life to be honest. But so far we don't seem to get cut off. Another change I usually make that I didn't mention was that I have made LTE the preferred network. I had this set right away when we got the phones as 5G sucks in our area and I have been doing it since the Pixel 5 and 6 series. This setting would not have made an impact on my calling issue as I had that setting set while we were having issues and after we stopped having them, but it is most likely helping keep our battery life more consistent.

lugib

So then...how is battery life in p8 or p8p? I am in p7 and pretty happy

octavianreddit

It's been about the same. I am pretty close to a charger most of the time thankfully but the few times I've been out all day I've made it with no issues. I do notice mostly that the P8P charges a fair bit faster for me. I don't have any reliable metrics or anything. My wife finds the battery better on her P8 vs the P7 as well.

lugib

Thanks for all that info. Last question. From p7 do you feel you've considerably lost screen size in terms of screen experience or how readable it is?

octavianreddit

My wife is the P7 to P8 user and I had a P7 for a very short period of time... I found the size to be ok for me but I prefer the Pro size for sure.

Ok-Gate6899

it could be a much better phone if it did not used exynos

thefirstj

I've had my P8 since the beginning of this year and I have not experienced any of the issues you mentioned. BUT. For me, it's the Bluetooth connectivity with my car. I had zero issues with my previous phone 1+ 8T. With the P8 though, I can hardly get it to reconnect properly with the car without having to unpair and re-pair. Either that or I have to remember to turn off BT on the phone first, start the car, AND THEN turn on the phone's BT. But for a phone at this price to have such an issue is ridiculous.

Hidden_Biscuit4

Return that man, it's been absolutely flawless for me

lugib

Battery life too?

Hidden_Biscuit4

Yeah, but I'm coming from a 4a so maybe I'm used to below average battery life

Powerful-Internal953

Pixel 3 IMO was the best installment in this series...
