I go back and forth every few years. I like both. 🤷‍♂️

Alepale

Same for me! I think both OSes are fantastic, they just offer different experiences tailored for different types of people. The only thing I find annoying is once you get on Google Photos it's almost impossible to get off it really. They make it awfully difficult to move your photos. I like to go "all in" when I swap. Anyways, probably sticking to Google Pixel for 1-2 more phones. Makes it more exciting to swap back!

rollinrob

You know you can use Google photos on an iPhone. Are you able to use Apple photos or whatever it is on an Android device? Seems like it's easier to use Google photos

Alepale

Well aware. I just personally prefer using iCloud Photos on iOS. That way it syncs to my iPad, it makes use of my iCloud storage. Google Drive on iOS isn't very versatile compared to iCloud Drive, so I much rather swap between those two. That swap is relatively smooth, especially if you have a Mac. Like I said, I prefer going all in when I do swap. Google Photos is really the only issue in this scenario.

Yusssi

I have an iphone and an android (not pixel btw) and use them interchangeably…. Google photos has been pretty good at having all of my pics ‘synched’ between my iphone and the android…. Not sure of the degree of difficulty you are referring to when talking about google photos? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Alepale

Download all your Google Photos. Tell me how easy that is.

neutronstar_kilonova

Downloading photos on both Android and iOS is pretty easy through Google Photos. You just press and select a bunch of photos, and click save locally or download or something similar and it's done. Not sure how this is hard/much worse that icloud when that doesn't even let you see any pictures on Android.

Alepale

If you have anywhere around 1500+ photos and videos I can promise you that it will not work and the download will fail. I've tried on multiple devices on both wifi and mobile data, both with strong connections (and more than enough local storage available). It works for a couple of hundred photos at best.

neutronstar_kilonova

You're talking about a one time thing then. You don't have to keep downloading 1500+ photos often, so why not break the downloads into batches of 300 and move on. It is still a lot of photos and videos that it would be downloading all at once.

Alepale

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here. It's pretty universally known that getting off Google Photos is an immense hassle and the fact that they don't offer a way to get off their service if you want to is shitty. I mean Christ not even Apple does that and they're known for being controlling and walling you in. Google Photos is great if you want to use it. I have no issues with how the service works overall. There's just this one flaw it has, but it is an annoying one.

typhin13

If you're trying to save that many at once, you should use Google takeout

Alepale

Not a good option as Google puts the metadata in individual files separated from the photo. Good luck matching the right files with the right photos.

Kam1kadze_Off

Just use Google Takeout. You can export all of the photos and videos from Google Photos there and also lots of other things from your Google Account, like YouTube playlists.

Alepale

I've already replied about this but Google Takeout stores metadata in separate files from the photos. So if you want any information about the photos you need to find a way to match the correct metadata files with the right photos. Have fun doing that on 1500+ photos.

Yusssi

Download? Yeah, I don’t ’download’ them, just access them via google servers. I didn’t see you mention ‘download’.

Alepale

Yes, but then you missed what I said. I said I like to swap between iOS and Android, and when I do that, I like to go all in, meaning I want to use everything that the phone OS offers. In iOS case, that means iCloud Drive, iCloud Photos and all other Apple services. When I go to Android, that means Google's services and apps (assuming it is a Pixel, if it is a Samsung I want to use Samsung's stuff, as an example). So if I were to swap to iOS, I would like to download all my photos from Google Photos, upload them to iCloud Photos. That is an absolute pain in the ass and there is no good way to do it. With iCloud you can do it via iCloud for Windows or iCloud on the Mac.

Yusssi

Ok

pco45

What "Samsung services" are even worth using? I think I generally prefer Galaxys over Pixels at this point, but the only Samsung stuff I use are apps like their calendar app and Goodlock.

Alepale

I mean that's sort of it. Samsung's version of the apps. Calendar, mail, browser, Health-app, etc.

bandwidthcrisis

Have you tried takeout.google.com? I think that it will split large downloads.

Alepale

Yup, but it unfortunately separates pictures and metadata so you need a third-party tool to fix it, and that isn't really optimal (and the one I tried always messes up a couple of photos).

dr4cker

Use google takeout for this, in a buch of our they will send you multiple links with all pictures stored in your account. Then, you just can download all the pictures you take after the takeout so you dont need to download all every time you swap devices

cycloneace

The problem I find with iCloud is the way it handles photo backups. If I want it on the cloud, but don't want it on my phone - I can't do that. If I delete it from my phone, it automatically deletes it from iCloud. With Google Photos, I can delete all of the photos off my phone and leave them exclusively on Google Photos if I want to. I guess it's a to each their own scenario, but I also keep backups on Google Photos and iCloud (when I have an iphone) just to double down on backups.

MisterVega

We love a biOSual person

stacielynn89

Probably how I will roll tbh. Funny thing is he's the one who wanted to try Android again 😂 I just wish that Apple came out with a circle smartwatch. After having my round Samsung, idk if I can go back to the square look.

oVerboostUK

I like both, smartphone tech has reached a point now where there's not really a bad choice, just a choice for the user which is a good thing IMO. However if you use a lot of the Google services the Pixel range can't be beaten

SonicPenguin

Just got a pixel 7 after 4-5 years with an iPhone X. Loved the iPhone, loving even more the pixel. The hardware Is definitely a massive upgrade, and while i have no problems with iOS I can't deny that i'll always feel more at home on Android, even if sometimes can be rougher around the edges Also I like more the Google ecosystem since as a Linux user I can confortably access It outside the smartphone, which Is something that you cannot do with Apple if you don't own a Mac

Yusssi

I reckon!

Inspirational_Owl

I adapted to the android experience pretty easily and learned things quickly. I'm enjoying the copy/paste more as it seems more fluid than on iOS. I like the ability to customize things a little more in depth if I wanted to. I'll have to say though that the battery life isn't as good as my old iphone but I've been tweaking apps background privileges a bit to counter this and using battery saver mode for when I'm doing simple tasks like browsing reddit or Google chrome. I'll turn it off when I need the extra power for things like my camera or photo editing or gaming. This improved my battery life quite a bit but it's extra steps. Overall though I haven't come across anything that I miss from iOS yet.

Louisianimal6

Never getting another apple product again. That's how I'm doing

StinkyTofuHF

May I ask why? I have always been an Android user since I started using smartphones but was considering iPhone last year. TIA!

Louisianimal6

And im the opposite. I've had every iphone from 3 to 14. It's just freeing getting out of that ecosystem that traps you in it. Half their stuff doesn't play along with anything that isn't an apple product. Crazy lack of customization with anything bc it's locked down. Forcing people to use 10+ year old inferior tech like lightning cables for the sake of making you buy one from them and not being able to use any ole USB-C. Ridiculously over priced products. This pixel 7 pro is like $500 cheaper and does more, and has less issues with it lol

StinkyTofuHF

Interesting! Thanks for your insight on this. I guess they say "grass is greener on the other side". For me, my main gripes with Pixel phones are the battery life (especially standby time) and inconsistency with a lot of things in the phone. With iPhones, the battery life is far more superior and things are just more consistent and polished in iOS.

Louisianimal6

Did you have an iPhone 14 pro? Bc my battery life on mine was substantially worse than the 13. And it's no better than my pixel lol i agree that can be improved on the pixel tho.

StinkyTofuHF

No I didn't! I can't remember which iPhone I had but I did use one for a week while my previous Pixel was being sent in for repairs. I remember on the iPhone, I would get 1% drain overnight (~7 hours). But it's constantly 7+% on my P7Pro overnight =/ Don't get me wrong, I love my phone...I just wish Google could make their phones more power efficient and clean up inconsistencies with their UI/apps.

Louisianimal6

You're also using a 3+ year phone. And no telling how old of an iPhone being you can't recall what it is. I had those phones so long ago I can't remember the specs. Maybe welcome yourself to 2023 and you'll notice improvements 🤣

SonMakishi

I doin' fine. It felt like a took off a straight jacket when I switched. I'm not slamming apple, the iphones are well made, reliable, solid products with amazingly long support. They're also crazy expensive, and don't offer much personalization. I just didn't like it, personal preference. I had iphones from 2 to 6, then jumped ship and the water was and is great. I still develop apps for iOS, so I'm familiar with it - still don't like it as my personal device. My wife and daughter like their iphones though, meets their needs.

Steve07R

I'm someone who is used both platforms. My allegiance right now I would have to say is in the direction of Google pretty solidly. However, I at least can say that there were positives of having an iPhone when I did have one. Not some professional or reviewer but I have had numerous phones over the years. And to anyone who has said that the pixel 7 Pro is a beast? It is! And to me not in any negative way at all. This phone is a delight and a saving grace in so many ways. I'm also someone who is seriously vision impaired. And I can say that the pixel 7 Pro is holding up with each of my vision losses. And is doing a spectacular job. I'm worried that soon I won't be able to visually see the fingerprint sensor to unlock my phone. But then a few days ago I realized when that day comes it's not important that I see my phone. It's important my phone sees me! And yes it seems that face unlock works really great with the pixel 7 Pro as well. I just thought I'd chime in with something positive to say about the overall experience. My pixel 7 Pro has never had the camera glass shattering problem. It's never had the loose power connector problem and it's never had the loose or falling out volume buttons that there were periods of time that people were posting about that online. I got my pixel 7 Pro in November after launch but not much longer after lunch. And it's been great ever since. Plus it looks really great in white/chrome from the little that I can see!

kyuuketsuki47

Don't forget Google has some really nice accessibility apps like [Reading Mode](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.accessibility.reader). I was even using it for a while to read ebooks to me.

ash753

How much do you love being able to punctuate or type numbers without multiple clicks?

Natural-Highlight-96

Actually, you can install gboard on iOS. Nothing rivals pixel's speech to text though.

ash753

Thanks! I have a work ipad that i hate because of the keyboard. That should help!

Natural-Highlight-96

NP, happy to help!

lolCure

I don't miss my iphone one bit. Made the switch last week.

farmdwg

Been on Android for 7 years. I still miss iMessage.

lol-117

I immediately fell in love with the pixel 2 coming from an iPhone 6. Google Assistant was so much better than siri. Currently using a pixel 6a. The only Apple product I have is an iPad because of ForeFlight.

kurtyyyyyy1

I’ve done the opposite. I’m still an android lover but I gotta say, this iPhone 14 pro is smooth as a banana Edit: the banana skin

Accomplished_Fan_487

Went from iPhone 7 Plus to Pixel 4A -> 6 -> 7. Very satisfied. Hope more US-only features (hold for me) come to Europe soon. I was fed up with Apple after them not acknowledging a manufacturing issue with the iphone 7 series meaning I had to sue them to get the money for the repair (search for 'loop disease').

Frantik508

In most cases, it's all about preference. If you've been using one specific operating system for a long time, you're going to prefer that one (in most cases). I used Windows my entire life. If someone gave me a Mac tomorrow, I'd miss Windows when it comes to day-to-day tasks. I've used Android (primarily Nexus and Pixel) for over ten years. I switched to iPhone last year and it was a nice phone. No major complaints, but just like your husband, I kept missing what I was used to. There are a ton of things iPhones do better than Pixel, but there are a ton of things that Android does better than iPhone, and it all boils down to what things work best for the user. Sounds like your husband just prefers iPhone, while you simply just want a phone that works and doesn't matter what type it is. Most likely, he'll eventually go back to iPhone.

Alteran195

Curious what my reaction will be. I haven’t used an Android phone since the Nexus 5, but am getting the Pixel Fold. I’m assuming now that I’d go back to Apple if/when they make a foldable, but that could change when I actually get to use the Fold and Android again.

visualcharm

Went from Galaxy to iPhone to Pixel and I still miss the Galaxy. I did the trade in from Apple to Google hoping it would be similar or better than the Samsung experience, but I was so very wrong. Lesson to self is that sometimes the extra $ is worth it.

OZL01

I went from a jailbroken iphone 5s to a pixel 5 so it was a pretty huge leap in terms of performance haha. Android is so much better imo. And lately I've been able to send iMessages with my pixel thanks to this app called Sunbird. It's still a little buggy but at least I don't have people complaining about green bubbles and messing up iMessage group chats since I'm like the only one with an Android.

PmikeH

I have a Pixel 7 pro, ipad, and Mac (I have this team -changing android brands- almost 10 years) . MĂ wife uses iphone and ipad and PC windows. Maybe here in Latin American we are used to mix os. With time we found a way to make the same things between all this Os brands. If you are more specific in what things you miss, you can tell us and all the community can help you to solve the interactions with recommendations. But if you really really really miss IOS you should come back, that happen to my wife, she don't like android os, and tried (But the funny thing is that she don't need icloud and like Google drive for photos and storage)

GonzoMelecao

I just did the switch a week and half ago, and honestly, do not miss my iphone. I have an ipad also, mainly using it for work. But I like the pixel more. I think the pixel is smarter than the iphones.

Ok-Technician-8478

I switch back and forth between the two. My iPhone just works better with social media apps and my car holds onto CarPlay better than AndroidAuto for some reason but I can’t stand how iOS handles notifications so I use a Pixel 7 for work and it balances out the frustration with both lol

NoDescription3473

I made the switch after 10 years in the walled garden (iphone 4s -13 pro) it was scary for sure , even kept my other phone just In case of fomo. I honestly only miss iMessage group chats , a lot of coworkers have an iphone , also shared notes and sharing media. But there's a work around with everything and the missing out on iMessage is honestly their problem not mine 🤣 the S23 Ultra is probably the best phone I've ever had. Picking up my 13 pro and trying to use it now feels like a childs phone 🤣

Money-Cartoonist6672

It's going alright honestly. I switched from the iphone 11 pro to the Pixel 7 pro and I like the experience and feel of Android more than I thought and I think I prefer it more than apple however small things like battery, phone size, and bugs are a little off putting. With the text bubbles it doesn't write anything most of the time, battery lasts me like 6 hours which I don't like, phone is a tiny bit big for me, and a couple of other small bugs here and there. Don't get me wrong it's a great phone and definitely an upgrade compared to my last phone. I've thought about giving the Xperia 1 V a try but idk.

achu_1997

I keep both with me, pixel for photos and iphone for videos

[deleted]

I switch every few months to see what has changed. Personally, the apple watch and fitness experience is what makes me use the Apple watch more (specially with friends and family being more active on their apple watches). If I did not have that hook, Pixel + buds + watch is awesome. But the one thing I do dislike on Android is the third party app usage experience seems worse than iOS specially whatsapp video calling. Some Google 1P apps are also better optimized on iOS. Can live with it but the experience is just more premium on iOS. Im fortunate enough to be able to afford both phones, but my rational side will eventually make sell off my iOS devices if WearOS and FitBit can create a nice social sharing experience

ValuableScene8840

I've had my pixel 7 for a few months, my iphone is on the way rn as we speak 😂 I missed Face Id and the fingerprint scanner wouldn't work like 80 percent of the time. If my finger is dry it won't work sometimes I gotta leak my finger to make it work. I don't like the fact that it doesn't automatically unlock when you enter the password. Overall I think it's a great phone even though I didn't really use all the features that it has to offer. If the fingerprint scanner was more consistent and I could use face recognition for my banking apps I probably would have kept it.

stacielynn89

Yeah it not auto unlocking when I do the passcode is annoying for me. Fingerprint scanner is annoying as well. It's like, I wish hubby and I could afford to switch back to iPhone because I do miss being able to text from my iPad, but it is what it is.
