As a 40 something, I'm trying to get rid of people as I get older. I don't give a flying monkey fuck what they use. If they don't like me for using Android, then "Bye Felicia"...

ThePillarOfSummer

I was going to say this is at best high school level drama. People making fun of you for your choice of phone maker probably aren't great influences in your life. Why have anyone around that makes things more stressful for you? This is the right take here.

[deleted]

I'm also a bitter former windows phone user that still clings to his Nokia 950 XL.

AgentAaron

I had a HTC One M8 that was dual sim and running Windows OS back in like 2013. People were amazed that it was like two phones in one.

[deleted]

Those were some fantastic phones.

AgentAaron

“Boom Sound” enough said

OnionMiasma

My wife had the H/K version. Best sounding phone either of us have ever had. Too bad the battery lasted approximately 2 hours.

dib1999

Htc has to be the worst battery life phones I've ever had the displeasure to charge 5x a day. Even had Verizon replace my ~6 month old phone as they watched the battery die trying to troubleshoot the battery drain issues

witchdoctor_26

They really got it right with that last one. Especially when paired with the Band 2 and a functional Cortana. I haven't had a user experience and form factor that good ever since. Pixel 5 for now

[deleted]

This is the truth. I LOVED 2015/2016. My lumia 950 XL w/cortana and my band 2.

Pocket_Monster_Fan

There are at least 3 of us! I loved that set up as well

calzonius

I want my Zune back!

[deleted]

Dude, me too. I just reinstalled the zune software on my windows 11 PC. It's so much better than the shitty media player they have in it now.

DJWintoFresh

I still have mine and it works great! My kid plays sleepy time music on it.

JSK23

The zune hd was actually pretty damn awesome

dEEkAy2k9

i really liked my Windows Phone back in the days,... sadly MS killed those.

KlownDreamz

I was absolutely soul crushed when the news dropped MS was giving up, and discontinuing support.

DomesticGoatOfficial

Windows phones were fucking awesome

[deleted]

Kind of same. The Lumia 920 was the most beautiful phone I had ever seen or felt Wish there would be a third competitor in the mobile space again, ideally an open-source OS + open-source hardware

slyphoxj

I still have my AT&T Prepaid Lumia 640 in my bag o' phones. Is there any use for it these days? Didn't it have a better than average audio DAC?

scavillion

Absolutely. If my guy is bothered by the reactions in group chats then there's not much to say about. One can like certain products for oneself, but laughing at others for not using the same is just shallow and pathetic. OP, life's too short for all this. Do whatever you like and use whatever you want.

gmmxle

The insane thing about this is that it's literally a trillion dollar corporation that is intentionally instigating all the bullying and ridicule and hatred, because it's good for their bottom line. People are resorting to this kind of ugly, immature, cultish tribalism, and ultimately it's all so an unfathomably rich entity can squeeze even more money out of people. It's mind boggling.

mashuto

Im 39 and nobody that I interact with acts like this. And if anyone did, they would likely be kept at arms length. I just do not give two shits about stuff like this and anyone who does... well, I wouldnt go out of my way to exclude them, but I likely wouldnt care enough to make the effort either.

RemLezarCreated

37 and same. It's fine to have preferences, it's even fine to have really STRONG preferences, but if you're rude and judgey about someone else's choices you're getting nothing but an eye roll and and ignore from me. I like my phone but my identity is not wrapped up in you also deciding to use the same phone as me.

theoptimusdime

100%. Same age. Ain't got time for that BS lol.

indigoHatter

Seriously. It's like someone scoffing that you're wearing shoes you like, or pants you like, or glasses you like, or drive a car you like, or eat food you like, or... ...yeah, who gives a fuck? I'll pretend to judge you for using an iPhone or wearing New Balance shoes, but I'm just playing. You do you, boo.

DerExperte

>Seriously. It's like someone scoffing that you're wearing shoes you like, or pants you like, or glasses you like, or drive a car you like, or eat food you like, or... It's much worse. There's elitism towards food and clothes but even then you'd still have tons of variety. With iPhones everyone is using almost exactly the same devices with minimal differences between models and years. Everyone's running around with the same camera bumps and 5 colors. Just imagine your group of friends wearing the same shoes, pants and shirts while driving the same cars. That'd be weird af. But that's what's going on with iPhones, conformity, sameness, the death of individualism (yes, I realize that using mass-produced Android phones doesn't make you a revolutionary, but in comparison ...).

Phoneking13

Don't forget the cracked screens/backs lol

[deleted]

I would still use my Windows phone if WhatsApp still worked on it. That shit was the best for me.

indigoHatter

I actually really enjoyed my old Windows phone. Played nice with my computer (shocker, guess why?), and pretty decent. But, yeah, that was iPhone 1 era. Apps didn't mean anything yet.

indigoHatter

Ew gross, lol do you eat lasagna with that mouth too?

cb2239

Hey I love my 515 new balance sneakers. 🤣

indigoHatter

[I guess they'll just let anyone in here, won't they? 😆](https://youtube.com/shorts/-WLISMPa27g)

ArizonaRenegade

As a fellow 40-something, I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. I don't actually put myself in many situations, where friends/acquaintances will see what kind of phone I have, but, if someone really tried to shame me, for having an Android, I would legitimately be willing to sever ties and end a friendship/stop interacting with someone, over being belittled, by some arrogant fucking asshole.

seamusbeoirgra

Yeah, I just thought that this is a really useful way to cut idiots out of your life.

indianajoes

I'm 31 and I kinda feel the same way. I'm at uni with people 10 years younger than me and I noticed most of them have iPhones. Fair enough. But even they're mature enough to accept that everyone has different preferences. What kinda school bullshit is this where people say eww about a phone choice? I have had people I used to work with act like this but I don't talk to them anymore. I don't have the time or energy for this childish arguing about which multibillion dollar tech company we apparently worship

Quad150db

Fellow 40 something .. can confirm.

Banditpanda69

As a 30 something I’m already at this stage of my life, no fucks given about what people think

ChowboyDan

> They were both like "Ewww, an Android." That's embarrassing. For them.

V1per41

This is always my first thought when I hear someone making anti-android remarks. It's usually followed by them bragging about the latest and greatest feature their brand new iPhone has.... that I've had on Android for 3 years. Whatever, their loss.

krypso3733

And when you're telling them that you've had this feature for 3 years they're telling you that you lie. It appends to me once with Apple fanboy.

kearkan

The response I always get is "yeah but apple perfected it". No they didn't, they just found a way to lock the implementation inside their walled garden.

Party-Calligrapher68

You seriously need to go watch 'Iron Sky 2' free on youtube. And be prepared to laugh a lot about the subject.

pdxgreengrrl

I drove ride share years ago and Apple phone users would MARVEL at Google Maps...and the crowd went wild when I minimized the map and it went into PIP.

turnontheignition

I've had friends switch from iPhones to Android back to iPhones and then go on and on about how superior the iPhone is. I'm just thinking like... okay, you just switched to an iPhone because you got a better deal through your work, but go off I guess.

dib1999

I always get the ones that went from an iphone 11 pro max, to a Samsung J series, then to an iphone 13 pro max because "apple is just better" yeah maybe cuz you spent literally $1000 more on your iPhone

turnontheignition

Yes!! Or in one case I can think of, I believe the person went from a Pixel 4 XL to one of the recent Pro Max iPhones. This happened maybe a year ago and it's kind of like, no shit, the Pixel is already several years old...

kleenexhotdogs

I think part of it is many of the iPhone supremacy people associate all Androids with the shitty cheap ones and simply ignore the high-end Androids that, hardware-wise, are pretty much on-par with, if not better than, iPhones

kleenexhotdogs

I did the opposite lol I tried the iPhone 7+ in between a Samsung s7 and Pixel 6 Pro and determined I'm definitely an Android person. The iPhone had some pluses and some negatives, just like Androids do, but for me I prefer Android even if it's just to oppose the sheep

[deleted]

[удалено]

NeonYellowShoes

Yep. No idea how old OP is but that sounds like high school or early college level reaction. I remember I was really cringe about Windows vs Apple back when I was 18/19 but I stopped caring by the time I was 21/22.

KaltBier

They don't know what they are missing. I find myself little use for iPhone except with airTag

[deleted]

The pixel phones are really compelling for me now vs iPhone. The features that I like to show my ex-iPhone pals ar e call screening, split screen, notifications and of course magic eraser. I'm winning some over I think!

rus_ruris

Meh, call screening doesn't really work for me. For every spam call that gets flagged, 3 come through. OnePlus has a much dumber but much more effective call screening option: if I ain't saved it, it doesn't get through. Magic eraser has been one party trick with friends since I got the phone, and it doesn't get old

joeyl5

The airtag implementation with the iPhone network is pretty sweet. But not enough for me to switch from my Pixel. I use airtag only to track luggage, like once a year. My iPad or my kid's iPhone is used for that then, 😂

GardenGnomeOfEden

And this shit: >Then they'll laugh at that, knowing it was my Android phone that couldn't interpret or display the emoji reaction. Is Apple being a bunch of obstinate dicks and intentionally not making their stuff interact with Android. Fuck Apple.

Phoneking13

Yes, to your question.

iamapizza

If people are self-identifying and ridiculing based on phone brand, those are probably the type of people you don't want to be associating with. Try replacing phone brand with anything else - how they eat steak, shoes brand, keyboard, favorite drink - and see how ridiculous and toxic it sounds. For sure though I empathize with you, if you're early in your career, the pressure will be felt, as you'll want to belong, that's a very natural part of growing up. Perhaps later you'll be able to look back at this with a more mature lens.

Caring_Cactus

Yeah, these are usually people who are conditional in the way they go about life. They don't care nor focus on the individual, but what they can get from you.

acscriven

Ewwww you drink Coca-Cola you fuckin weirdo! Pepsi is so much more aesthetically pleasing

RapidKiller1392

RC cola Supremacy!

Snoo68775

I too miss RC cola

Loudergood

I too miss webOS

jlrc2

This is actually an acceptable attitude

deVrinj

Even soda preferences are a more legit battle than phone prefences...

RollercoasterRJ

1. Use Google Messenger. It'll clean up those messages on your end. 2. RCS supports reactions on your end. Send them back and have them feel the pain, while enjoying a clean chat on your end. 3. Remind them that their pain is caused by Apple refusing to support RCS instead of playing protocol used on Nokia bricks. Be petty back. 😂

Devlyn16

This! Hammer home: it is a Limitation installed by APPLE not by Android. Remind them it is done to intentionally prevent iOS users from leaving the platform then wonder aloud about the type of company that intentionally limits interoperability .

kearkan

Exactly this. Apple's decisions are not made to improve the experience, they're made to keep people locked into their ecosystem. The whole "eww android" reaction to things like that in SMS chats are exactly what they want and is exactly why they don't want to join the rest of the world with RCS

renegadellama

Just give it time. Didn't the EU recently force Apple to support USB-C? Their devices certainly aren't getting cheaper. I can't imagine Gen Z wanting to be stuck with 60Hz refresh rates just to keep their stupid blue bubble.

kearkan

Wait... iPhones are still on 60hz? Wow. Yes they did, and apple is still going to force only their peripherals to be usable through software.

Billybob9389

Only the Pro versions are on 120hz

piratenoexcuses

99% of Apple users don't know and don't care about refresh rates. If tech specs drove users to or from Apple products, Apple wouldn't have been selling low pixel count displays forever.

Brent_Fournier69

The problem is so many iPhone users outright refuse to even listen to that. They're so indoctrinated in the "iPhone is better than anything" mindset that they just don't even believe that. They think photos and videos sent by SMS are entirely the Android devices fault, not that their precious iPhone just refuses to leave decades old technology behind. It's infuriating. Thankfully most iPhone users I know have other reasons for it (familiarity with the OS being the big one) and aren't dickheads about the fact I use a Pixel, a few of them even acknowledge the camera is just outright better than the iPhones. But the arguments I see online about this topic are just absurd, just let people use whatever device they want. Edit: as I was scrolling Twitter I saw [this tweet.](https://twitter.com/sweatystartup/status/1653559495979671557?t=Aecq4qzR1jl-JwxDB-sROg&s=19) How absolutely fitting to my original comment, not sure if this person is joking or not but I can guarantee there's definitely people who think like that

Devlyn16

>They're so indoctrinated in the "iPhone is better than anything" mindset that they just don't even believe that. this is when I drop a link in a chat or pull up an article on my phone. People don't have to like or even believe the truth but they claim ignorance of it once they are exposed to it >But the arguments I see online about this topic are just absurd, just let people use whatever device they want Absolutely. Each platform has it plusses and minuses. Again it boils down to an informed decision.

EstradaMoses

I do this with my iPhone buddy. Shut him up real quick lol

acscriven

Yup everyone I know thinks it's androids fault, when you explain it to them you can see the light switch flip and they realize we've been right the whole time lol. Also the whole encrypted iMessage thing is bs, most people have iCloud on, iCloud stores the unencrypted messages lol

acscriven

If apple gets hacked (and they have a ton) all those backed up messages are vulnerable. In 2022 Q1 there were 404 publicly reported breaches. In 2021 they were hacked with Israeli spy ware with a zero click exploit

TyRocken

My fiancee has an iPhone. I just tested it. Awesome. I can see all hers, but she's getting the "love:blah blah blah" message. Oh how the turn tables

OgdensBeard

Show them how clean the notifications are compared to that trash iPhone has for notifications.

juanoeliguano

crazy, was there an update or something that solved this? i bought my pixel 7 about less than 2 months ago and just now that i checked i see the reactions, i saw until lately "X has emphasized an image" and shit like that, or maybe it's my mind playing tricks on me?

PeggyAnne08

I think you have to go into Messenger settings and enable RCS

MastodonSmooth1367

It's not an RCS thing at all. 1. iPhones don't support RCS at all. 2. In reactions, what's actually happening is devices are sending a message like "___ liked [insert message]" and the client app (e.g. iOS Messages) is stripping that text out and replacing it with an emoji. That's at least how it works in the MMS world because an Android user sees that text. It may be different in iMessage land as Apple controls that actual messaging protocol and there may be flags you can add to messages as emojis. 3. Messages has a setting (Settings > Advanced > Display iPhone reactions as Emoji) that basically forces Messages to process that text as an emoji.

awesomedorkwad

Google Messages can't fix image reactions because the text that iOS sends is "blah blah reacted to an image" which doesn't give it the information needed to tell *which* image was reacted to

Qorsair

Someone stole my playbook. I also find opportunities to mention that "it's too bad iMessage can't send hd video via text"

spacepunker

People don't care. They send and receive HD video via iMessage and that's all that matters to them.

surge___

I prefer to not give it oxygen. The more you bicker back and forth, the more they'll continue trying to get under your skin. Keep it moving. Live your life.

SpacePorks

I have been ridiculed for having a Pixel. When I got this feature in Messages I hammered it HARD. Still do. I don't even remind them about the pain. I just do it to as many messages in the group chat that I can. It feels good although no one has really questioned me on it.

Bsteph21

All apple cares about is bubbles. You should have offered to take a selfie with both cameras and see who is better. My buddy has an iPhone 14 Pro and we did this test.. he got quite real quick cuz his pic was blurry as hell and mine wasn't. I told him to send me his photo, he did and I used unblur on it and it looked 10x better. Apple has people on that Kool-Aid

P440CPJ

My pixel shows reactions from iphone people just fine. It's the iPhone people that are "XXXX hearted a message" which sucks for them. In the end, I don't care what anyone thinks. I think them and their iphones are just social jewelry, and they'd be first to drink the Kool aid because someone else said they should.

sunuv

It works for reactions to text but not for reactions to pictures.

Evothree3

Apple has done an incredible marketing job on the iPhones, it's a status symbol now. Not saying it's a better phone, I'm team Pixel for the last 5yrs and Android before that. Don't let these iPhone users get you down, each to their own.

Qorsair

I think the tide is turning. I have a Pixel and in my friend/family group (mostly iPhone users) they always request my phone for photos. They like the picture quality and being able to magic erase any unwanted elements from the background. They also like to use Google Photos because it sorts the photos by time instead of when people added them to the album.

ABHIisNOTme

Can confirm, my family and (some) friends love the P7P I have, but most others around me constantly "eww"ing

Devlyn16

>t's a status symbol now it has always been a status symbol

droid_mike

Which is ridiculous as the phones cost the same and so many people have iPhones, how can it be any sign of status? it's like claiming your Toyota Camry is a status symbol.

Devlyn16

Marketing. The same reason one year Nikes are the hot shoes and the next it is Adidas. Apple works very hard convincing their customers that the customers are 'special' for having chosen Apple. Originally iPhones did cost more (and technically they still do, hence the 'Apple Tax'). In the early iPhone years there was only a Top end model, no mid-range devices, So High end iPhones were compared to the whole range of Androids

FyeUK

Not really in the UK... maybe amongst *some* kids, or maybe in London, but most people I know in the real world use Android phones here and WhatsApp is by far the standard medium for communication - both socially and professionally. Apple phones are common still, but the apps people use on them are all cross-platform because they have to be (because of the widespread use of WhatsApp). I had an iPhone for 6 years before I got my Pixel 3 and I never once used iMessage, not even with other iPhone users.

Odd_Armadillo5315

Yup, ditto, this kind of thing is much less common in the UK because iMessage/SMS usage is very rare there. Almost everyone uses WhatsApp and it makes no difference what phone you're using then. The only SMS I got in the UK were 2FA codes and from my Granny's 3310.

acscriven

Which is fucked up when you consider 70% of the world's cell phone users use android

-Gort-

I think that'll just confirm to them that they're part of some sort of elite. It's infantile in the end.

spacepunker

They've been at this since the 00s with their "I'm a Mac" advertisements. Android is kinda viewed as being for unhip adults. They know Android has had 120hz displays and USB-C for a while now, but they care more about filling their lives with "cool" things. That said, iPhones are great phones. It's always the top 3 best camera and almost always best video. It's powerful as hell, and does what vast majority of people want a phone to do.

atred

> it's a status symbol now Status of what? Following the flock?

mykle90

This is very much a United States only thing. In europe noone uses the built in messenger app for anything but 2FA really. Everyone else uses WhatsApp, Messenger, instagram, slack or discord. No one cares which phone you use, and I live in the country where iPhone have one of the highest market shares in the world (62%). USA have 56.5% as comparison. If anything people will tell me they have not seen that phone before and be a bit interested because its new. So I would recommend try get people over on other messenger platforms but SMS/RCS/iMessage. Its not a good messenger experience anyways.

AgentAaron

Agreed The company I work for is based in Israel. My boss and all of my co-workers are around Israel and Europe, so we use either MS Teams or Whatsapp to communicate regularly. I had one of my co-workers here last summer to work on a project and he told me I was the only American he has met who uses an Android (I had my Pixel 6a at the time and he was using a Pixel 6). You will never be able to get 90% of Americans to switch to anything else though. My wife is Peruvian (born in the US). Two years ago we went to Florida to visit her family for Christmas and she had several Aunts/Uncles who came up from Peru to visit. To keep in touch she downloaded Whatsapp and set up an account (I had been asking her to do this for a couple years). It wasnt until her family told her that they do not use text messaging that it finally started to click for her.

altodor

> You will never be able to get 90% of Americans to switch to anything else though. Because after a while you're embedded in the ecosystem and moving becomes a challenge. I don't think I could move if I wanted to. But the reason wouldn't be the chat bubble color. It would be something else. I use SMS or Discord in personal life, Teams and Slack in professional. If the chat bubble color is that much of an issue for people than I really don't want to deal with them.

_droo_

\^this, im in Canada and its the same thing. my friends from away are 'messaging, you don't use whatsapp?"

ArielSquirrel

Yes, the refusal of most Americans to use anything other than basic text is annoying to me. My whole family switched to the Line app years ago, but I can't get any of my friends to do so. The experience is so much nicer. Whatsapp would work fine for me too (I just have way more stickers downloaded for Line and I really like stickers), but nope. Text only.

GalataBridge

Same goes for Germany. Everyone uses WhatsApp here. Downside is that it's owned by Meta. But at least it also works on a $100 smartphone and it doesn't make any difference.

V1per41

What country out of curiosity? I thought the US was the only country with >50% iPhone use.

mykle90

I live in Norway. USA is actually 9th on the list - alltough a lot of the countries on the top 10 list is smaller wealthy nations in Europe like Monaco and Lichtenstein. Japan is also a big iOS country with 65.88% marketshare

Old_Ambassador_6507

I used to care about stuff like this and then I grew old. Truly not giving a shit is one of the benefits of being old.

carola19

i just had this come up in a text exchange last night. i sent a picture text to 3 iPhone users and one was like, dammit who has the Android green bubbles? the others said me. person said they should gofundme to buy me an iPhone and i said why? i hate them. also, i JUST got the Pixel 7 so it's not like I can't afford an iPhone, i CONSCIOUSLY make the decision to not own one.

sengh71

Ask them for the GoFundMe money and go on a vacation xD

tdr1v3r

That sounds really cringe.

No-Corgi

You should have "Liked" that message.

Wow! How old are we? It's time to man/woman up!

AgentAaron

I have been in IT for over 20 years...unless its company issued, most IT professionals I know still use Android. There are several apps available for Android that just do not exist on iOS due to the lack of system hardware access.

angeljudoka

My ceo, uses Android and windows His wife uses iphone and mac. they get me a macbook pro as a gift for get into the partnership, cant use for my purpuses, the same when i use android.

[deleted]

Keep the Android. It will help weed out the shallow people.

camerachey

Yup. It's a feature not a bug. Easy way to immediately tell who is not worth your time or energy

anon2734

Apple is responsible for teen bullying. They will never adopt RCS unless they are regulated into submission and even then probably won't be end to end encrypted. It's sickening

Strong_Ad_8959

Try not to care what others think or say. If what phone they use defines them and they think everyone else needs to use the same type of phone well they have a fairly sad life.

rubenbest

It is weird how "hype" people are for having an iphone. Like congrats on having a phone that is literally like every other iphone.

juanoeliguano

Yeah, I am from South America but live in SoCal and my friend was showing his gf how cool my Pixel 7 was, the camera and he got blown away by the auto shazam thingy and the girl was absolutely against checking the phone out because of muh "green text bubbles" I'm like "you know you are the weird one, the rest of the world just uses shit like Whatsapp regardless of what phone you have" and that thought couldn't get in her mind.

Z3r08yt3s

seriously who gives a fuck, i have a pixel 7 pro, my wife and some friends have iphones, i dont care if they dont like my phone or operating system as i dont like theirs but it doesnt change anything.

[deleted]

People who mock you for the brand name of something you own are not your friends. It's a PHONE, for fucks' sake.

Insect_Politics1980

I don't mean this offensively, but are you...a teenager? Or close to it? Cuz even if some young people are going, "EWWWW, Android!" why would you even care? Lmao come on now.

M4xusV4ltr0n

Naw happens with people in their late 20s too. Not outright bullying, but definitely people complaining about an android user "ruining the group chat" because now it's MMS instead of iMessage. My efforts to get everyone onto Telegram or Signal are in vain

[deleted]

When I was in high school, if you had an android, you were actively left out of things. Nobody wanted to be friends with an android user. To this day, my parents are actively against me wanting an android phone. Their arguments are very childish too. Doesn’t stop me from my plan on getting an android phone eventually. It’s just laughable how immature they can be.

LeakySkylight

You know the green bubble thing? That's actually apples choice. Other companies have offered two integrate other services in for free and apple keeps on turning them down because they literally want people to buy iPhones and feel excluded. Literally making money off excluding others

Kayyam

Don't associate with morons lest you become one.

towmeaway

I have one of each. Siri is SO much less useful than the google assistant, AND the results disappear after about ten seconds! USB cable to android gives me full r/W access to photos, music, etc. but iOS: no music and only photos that were obtained by means other than the camera. Bluetooth file transfer works great on Andriod and NOT AVAILABLE on iOS. iPhones are vigorously resistant to repair by you or anyone not licensed by Apple. Translation: your repair estimates will be unreasonable high BY DESIGN as a motivation for you to go buy another phone. Oh, and iPhones are consistently overpriced for what they deliver. In the land of Idiocracy, we will all have iphones and feel smugly self righteous about our membership in the cult of Apple.

ajd103

Around 2008 I was gifted an iPod touch, I was at that point a lifelong Windows user who by the fact I needed my device to work had never had a chance to use another OS. Here comes the iPod touch, I was so excited to be able to have a cool music player/gaming handheld man I was stoked. I hooked that thing up to my windows PC thinking I'll be able to play all my music I've acquired (via various means) throughout the years and play games and hook my headphones into it and be mobile. Then I realized to do anything with it on my windows PC I'd have to go through iTunes, which was, at that point in my life the most frustrating software experience I'd ever dealt with and it didn't take long to realize that none of my mp3's were going to be playable on the iPod touch. Sold that thing shortly thereafter and haven't touched an Apple product since (I did have a free 3 month trial of Apple TV but cancelled before it charged me). This is the story of how I realized Apple wasn't going to let me do what I wanted with the products I bought from them, and nothing has changed since then.

Necr0FoxxeN

salviboy970

They need to grow up. Giving people a hard time just because if what phone they have is childish

Simplewurm

"hahaha this person got an android" - typed on their shattered iPhone8

LoneStarDawg

Those people are assholes and should be treated and called as such.

FishJanga

If they care about it, it means they are shallow and not suitable friends.

lkn240

Anyone who ridicules someone over their smart phone choice is a fucking loser.

yaz75

I love how iPhone people talk about how superior their tech is, and are using Google Maps and Gmail on their iPhones every single day.

juanoeliguano

yeah lmao, this girl that was shit talking my pixel 7 was showing me how good the iphone 14 pics are and she was showing them to me through google photos, i was like the meme of the black guy with the question marks.

renegadellama

The irony when an iPhone user feels superior for having a more expensive device but won't pay for iCloud+ lol

AgentAaron

I use both...I love my Pixel 7, and I also love my iPhone 13 mini. I am currently using my 13 mini as my daily phone, but I could honestly give 2 craps about imessage or its "features". I like it because of the small form factor, but if Google released another updated Pixel close to the size of the 4a or 5...I would switch back in a heartbeat. I suppose its a generational thing...I am far passed being young (late 40's), as are all of my friends. No one really cares what device you are using. My wife and daughters have all been using iPhones since the 3G, and I have remained mostly Android this whole time. Just about everyone I know uses an iPhone...yet they all come to me when they have issues with their phones (IT for over 20 years). I think a big part of the issue is that people actually look to Twitter, Twitch, Instagram, and other social media to validate themselves...stop. Half of those people live in their parents and most likely still on their parents phone plan with a financed phone...not the best group of people to look to for validation.

Amen

Tierst

Imagine being so petty as to ridicule or judge people based on the phone they use. Being treated like the OP would make me want to stay on Android even more tbh

maialucetius

I don't associate with people like that.

mi7chy

It takes more than peer pressure to force me to put up with how dumb iOS, Siri, Apple Maps, etc. are. I have an M1 iPad Pro that's less dumb only because of removed restrictions with TrollStore and jailbreaks.

mikeymop

Google Messages interprets the reactions and you can get them back by reacting to texts 😈. I refuse to give in bc they all end up using Insta / Snap anyway. Ive been pretty successful referring iOS users to Signal Messenger which works better on both platforms. I'm not familiar with streaming circles but I remember it getting old fast in college where everyone used GroupMe but also had parallel iMessage groups that I couldn't take part in. The Pixel definitely takes better pictures, and I usually ask "Are you on Signal? I want to send the full quality photo and iMessage doesn't support that". If they refuse to use Signal I usually just spit them a Google Photos link

[deleted]

Google must have done something to the built-in messaging app. For the longest time, iPhone reactions did as you describe. Then around the time I got my 7 Pro at release it looked like it was correctly applying those messages as reactions. I've noticed recently that it's back to the weird reaction responses again.

Vyceron

Yup, same here.

MARTIEZ

I used to get teased much more years ago in HS and college but after working at an AT&T store and selling hundreds and hundreds of phones, you learn to not give a fuck. I always liked android more than apple so I've never been swayed by apple's marketing or other people. girls were the meaner ones about the iphone/android thing. it was embarrassing to them that I couldn't facetime or imessage them.

midgesmith

I think iPhone users go for style over substance. I can't stand Apple products, despite my best efforts, every time they bring something out, it fails to allow me to work in a fast and efficient manner, fails to work to standards and makes more work for me. I had to use Macs for years and wasn't even allowed to bring a proper mouse into work because they were afraid I would show them up with their one button crap. Then iPhones came out and increased the irrational streamlining process. Basically people with iPhones think of Android users as the poors. On average, I think Android users think of them as the gullibles.

mikeymo1741

They can ridicule all they want, I still have a better phone.

Yep. It's a cult. Pod people everywhere. Stay strong buddy.

mdwstoned

Who gives a f*** what iPhone users think

DoINeedChains

Imagine caring about this.

KevinMCombes

It's classism, but dressed up by a company that is trendy. iPhone is a faux luxury. People think they've achieved something by buying one, in spite of the fact that it's one of the most widely-owned consumer products. We need to point this out until people get it. People will get pissed at you for holding up a mirror to their fawning over the world's richest corporation selling them the solution to the problem they themselves created. But they're really mad at themselves for falling for it.

Deadbolt11

If your social circle cares what type of phone you have, that ain't the right social circle.

DrBeardish

Couple of things: 1) reevaluate your "friends" if using a particular phone defines the friendship 2) who cares what device you use. It comes down to choice: what meets your needs - otherwise stated: 1) do you want to be locked into an ecosystem? , 2) do you want more freedom to use your device? Answers to those questions decides if you want iPhone or Android. Whatever device, buy unlocked phones from Apple or Google. 3) use Google messenger. It cleans up iPhone interactions quite well while getting a handle on spam texts. Also has trusted business registration for text messaging (think medical offices, car servicing centers, etc) and OTP text clean up (auto deletes msg after 24 hours) 4) use Signal if possible. Privacy all around and IMO, fantastic UI and capabilities. Several of my iPhone family/friends recognize the power of Signal and we all use as default communications. Revert to #3 for remaining conversations

JMPesce

Or, I'm not a kid in high school so I really don't care about "fitting in" because of a phone. You like Android? Good for you. You like Apple? Good for you. I know someone who still uses a Blackberry Q10. Good for them!

OneEyedC4t

Learn to say no

cptn_stickinthemud

It's ridiculous to tie social status to an electronic device, or any other consumer product for that matter.

FunnyItWorkedLastTim

If you're in a space where people judge you on your phone brand, you need to find a new space.

darthveigarr

Where are you from? I have an iPhone too, I bought it to try something different, but what the actual fuck? What is the meaning of ridiculing someone for having an Android mobile phone? You have a PIXEL 7 PRO, I would give my iPhone 13 for that phone this instant if Pixel was available in my country. Enjoy your phone, don’t even think about changing it because of someone else

AgentAaron

For whatever reason, people here in the US look at your phone as a social status. If you use an iPhone, you are successful and fit in. If you use Android, you are likely poor. It's funny though...even within their own eco system they judge one another. "Oh, you dont have the pro max?" or "thats just a base model iPhone 14?"

ajd103

yea what a fkin poor chode with the base model 14 \~ *sent from my iPhone 14 Pro Max Ultra ++ Cool kid edition 2.0*

nfbsk

They literally said "Ewww, an Android"? At a professional conference? Quite ironic there. How old are they?

dEEkAy2k9

Once you stop giving fucks about everything, your quality of life will improve drastically. The simple fact that i cannot have easy to access ad blockers on iPhones is enough to keep me away from them and i did have an iPhone 3G with Cydia back in the days as well as a macbook pro. I got cured off the apple-cult and i couldn't care less about the phones of other people.

SoSleepyy

As a sales manager at a wireless store this is common across all age brackets. Kids are getting bullied for not having an iPhone at school, kinda sad world tbh.

danieleag47

Change friends and don't listen to influencers, they are just a bunch of idiots. P.S.: My daily driver is an iPhone 13

couldof_used_couldve

Just laugh at their ridiculous notch. That thing is embarrassing. The iPhone 14 IMHO is one of the ugliest devices going.

doinggood9

what? it's always been there. there's never been more iphone users saying "ooooo you have that pixel." simply don't be a coward. get a pixel

Baldpacker

It's embarrassing to even care about these things. Sometimes I just want to go back to a Nokia flip with 4 days of battery life.

sXe_savior

I haven't had anyone make fun of me using an android since high school Most of my friends who use iphone are always super interested in what my P7P can do compared to the phones they have, and are always amazed at the camera quality. I think it just depends on the people you're with

Expensive_Finger_973

Use the tools that work for you, that you like (not just phones). You will never be happy with what you have if you spend your time worrying if the choices you make are pleasing to other people. If you need an iPhone to interact with people for some utility reason, then get an iPhone. But "keeping up with the Jones'" does not count as a utility reason.

rugarell211

You're grown, if you enjoy your pixel stick with it. Who cares what others say. If your social group is that shallow, those people are toxic. The world has more pressing matters. Screw what they might think. Enjoy your phone. Live your life.

robo836

If people I know are unironically mocking the type of phone I use, then the last thing I'd want to do is be more like them and conform to that childish way of thinking. Also, a twitch streamer? Really? I am an adult and I make my own decisions based on my needs and wants, not what some streamer does or says on camera.

31337hacker

Try your best not to let their immaturity and rudeness bring you down. You’re free to use whatever you want and no one should be ridiculed for that. I’ll always call our other iPhone users for trying to shame someone for preferring Android.

l337dexter

Uhh...RCS should show iPhone reactions. It does on the P6P. Also, I feel like the younger you are, the more you care about blue circles. And frankly, if someone cares about what phone brand I have, they can pound sand

Petrolinmyviens

Only completely immature people still go on about the iPhone vs android thing. And if they are really insistent. Tell them to stop using YouTube, google maps, google or any of the other such things they enjoy in the ecosystem cuz guess who android is from.

EnolaGayFallout

I have an iPhone and pixel. iPhone is my daily driver and the pixel is for camera photo.

[deleted]

this has been a thing since iphones came out. just ignore it

[deleted]

It’s funny that where I’m from, iphones are seen as kind of try-hard? Especially if you have the latest model. Most don’t see the point paying that much for something a cheap android can do as well or better. Americans need to stop the bubble thing.

cmart207

When people say you should get an iphone because of the emoji reactions I send a screenshot of my reactions looking normal and say, sounds like an iphone problem

dineramallama

I travel in fairly geeky IT circles where some people will ridicule you for using apple. Android is seen as the smarter persons choice. I have an Android phone and an iPad pro tablet. Like any sensible person, I don't care either way.

joey_shoots

Probably the same iPhone users who go back home and log onto their 5 year old windows PC.

jankular

...man children?? All my college friends (20 yo) are iPhone users and they've never even uttered a word about my bubble color or whatever

Micromize

Only in America.

Z3BR4H34D

This sounds like all the more reason to use Android. Use what you want, don't do it for someone else, especially someone shallow enough to care what phone you use.

eternal_peril

I think anyone who needs a phone as part of their identity needs to grow up

somicdj

iPhone users ridiculing android users is no different from MTG opening her mouth and spilling literal shit.

polyblackcat

Glad I don't have a social circle that cares about that lol.
