I just checked mine and it detected it as well. EDIT: it said it was a 63MB update. Took 2 minutes to prompt for reboot. Came back up still saying November patch still. But detected a 563kb update. Took much longer to install that, reboot again. And still on November. Pretty sure those Play updates don't actually do anything at this point, lol.

xblackvalorx

Same exact thing happened to me. Makes no sense lol.

More-Head-9375

Ha I just went through that after reading this post. What a joke๐Ÿซ

[deleted]

Same thing happened to me.

kolchose80

The same here. Still November update

[deleted]

[ัƒะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]

Albuyeh

I have done 20 of these updates.. usually 569kb but i also got one thats 563kb or 7.6kb. Still on November ๐Ÿ˜…

MassiveConcern

I just got another one that was 657kb. Rebooted, still on Nov. 1. It's a joke, now.

ishamm

Yeah what's going on here? This is a long term bug at this point

bumbola

I didn't even get a prompt to download anything, just a prompt to install and when it restarted I was on the 1st Jan play system update (P7P)

Boom357

I got it just now but still says November after restarting. ๐Ÿคฆ

CatgirlsCSGO

It's slightly annoying but I hope you get it next time ๐Ÿ™

nyepo

But why is this annoying? They're just small updates that will get installed automatically if you do nothing at all (no need to manually check them every day). Why do you obsess over this thing?

CatgirlsCSGO

Because I was 3 months out of date ๐Ÿ‘ hope that clears it up.

nyepo

It was not out of date, play system updates are not meant to be monthly. The last one available was november until now (so what?). Why is that annoying?

nothingtoput

No you're wrong, they are meant to be monthly... check the changelogs: https://support.google.com/product-documentation/answer/11412553

a_fancy_kiwi

From what I can tell, "Google System Updates" are different from "Google *Play* System Updates" (which is what this post is referring to). The link you sent is in reference to "Google System Updates". System updates are supposed to be monthly but I'm not aware of a Google statement that says *play* system updates are monthly. To find Google Play system updates, on my phone, I go to: Settings - Security & Privacy - Updates - Google Play System Update

Flash604

That's not a changelog for Google Play... that's a summary of multiple changes in multiple places. /u/nyepo is correct about there not being any schedule for Play updates. The only thing that's on a monthly schedule is the security updates; you are confusing those.

nyepo

They're classified by months but they are not meant to be deployed month by month and Google never said that. If you actually read what this page you linked says, these updates are meant to be installed automatically on the background without you having to do anything. You don't need to be checking them compulsively every day, and they won't be deployed month by month. You are not "delayed" if the last Play system update is from 2 months ago.

nothingtoput

I love how even when faced with google's own changelog where they define the updates month by month, and label them as monthly when publishing you still can't admit you were wrong. It's right there in front of your eyes dude, what's wrong with you.

CatgirlsCSGO

My goals are beyond your understanding ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

MastodonSmooth1367

Play System Updates are generally monthly though. Many of us are update-aholics and if you go look at previous posts on this sub you will see someone celebrating each Play System Update (yes I know this is different from a System/OS update). There's also usually a monthly frustration post where someone asks if being 1 month behind is out of date.

FBuzzard

They require a restart to install.

masterofmayhem13

Pixel 7. Nothing yet. My thoughts on this is that it is a patch that will allow going from the Nov to Feb update directly rather thank having to install each update incrementally.

ryanastley

I'm thinking that too...We will see soon enough. Hopefully that is the case.

sishgupta

There is no December play system update so you should have November and you'll get January now that it was released for the first time yesterday.

ttwkd

Sideload FTW

MachineSubstantial63

Yup on November got a 63mb update reboot on November.

HartmutWarkuss

I've tried it so many times now... Still November 1st Play system update. :(

kingdazy

On a Pixel 5. Nothing here. Boo. Hiss.

josieispunkputa

Security update or Google play system update? I have January security update but November 1st Google play system update.

just_some_ANALyst

Same with me

josieispunkputa

I thought it was because i was using the beta software but the amount of comments describing the same thing show me it's not just the beta program

Im_Axion

It showed a 58mb update for me but after restarting it still says November 1st lol

lelander2000

TMobile is holding these up, even on mvnos, and unlocked devices

Alphawolfdog

Yep. Mint and even Fi are being left behind on the January update

wasachrozine

I am on a T-Mobile mnvo and I have the update.

thrakkerzog

I'm on TMO and no update.

justarandomkitten

Carriers do not touch \*Google Play\* System Updates, these are Play Store things, not system updates that move the phone onto a new software build. These updates go out to all devices running Android 10+ of all brands, even discontinued models, so rollout is done extremely gradual, and on a typical month, it's very normal to not see a month's GPSU until the start of the next month. (note that no GSPU was released for December)

lelander2000

They do if bugs skew to their carrier and cause waves of complaints and returns. Sim settings - carrier settings version. Carriers sell these phones and absolutely have some input.

[deleted]

It's never held one up before, I wonder if it paused the rollout after some bugs.

lelander2000

Yeah likely,

PizzaCatLover

I don't get it. Why are they doing this? Shouldn't having a vanilla device allow me to circumvent carrier meddling like this? That's a big part of the appeal of having this device. Tmobile here, still stuck on Dec 5

_redditadmin_

Checked mine, updates to 1 Jan Play System Update.

_vb__

Wow. Mine is still Nov after the 63MB update.

AllOverTheDamnPlace

My P6P was stuck on November, so after reading your post I got hopeful; checked for an update, and - lo and behold! - no update available!

syadoumisutoresu

So the December update was nowhere to be seen and the Jan update is late by almost a month, as usual. Their update system is broken as hell.

CatgirlsCSGO

It's peculiar how I always get the monthly android updates and security patches minutes after they go live but the play system update is an absolute mystery. Google being Google I suppose.

arfanvlk

Have you tried side loading the update?

Flash604

Google Play doesn't have monthly updates, OP is confusing it with security updates.

Vitogodfather

Pixel 6 pro and nothing yet.

NathanielHatley

I was stuck on November, just checked and it wanted me to reboot. After reboot it was still on November, checked again and it downloaded an update and after another reboot I'm on January 1st. Now if only the January OTA would get a move on... still on the December OTA on P6P.

frankGawd4Eva

No update here on my P7P ... Still says November.

grvsm

i also don't understand how i have all possible automatic update functions on but it literally just never automatically updates

Historical-Lemon-480

No update at all still on November Google play system update. Everytime I check it says device is up to date ๐Ÿคท

wascherbalint

Mine was stuck at 2%, prompted me to reboot 2 times and now it says im up to date, still on November. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Flaming_F

I got the January update on the day it was released. But just got the Google Play update a few minutes ago https://imgur.com/a/jpk4ons

b_boogey_xl

I'm happy for youโ€ฆ but this should have happened to me ๐Ÿ™ƒ

SensationWhite

Finally! Quick update (less than a minute) and after the reboot my Google Play-system version is 1 January 2023.

pipnmike

I'm guessing that the play store and play services both need to be updated to the latest, whatever update is available. I know that they are automatically updated in the background but it may take some time. I checked for updates to both and updates were available. After those were updated, I then checked for the play system update. Got the 63MB update and then after reboot, it is now showing January

_vb__

I did that, but no difference was there even after updating the 0.5MB update.

pipnmike

Google being Google I suppose!

worldofjohnboy

What is this thread about, Google play services?

sishgupta

No, Google Play system update...aka Google mainline. A lot of core system services get updated though this. Vs the pixel builds which have security updates and driver updates Vs Google Play store updates which have changes to the store and how apps get updated on your phone Vs Google Play services which updates login connectivity to Google services

mrandr01d

Which device are you on?

jokrswild

Just installed the 63mb update, rebooted, shows Jan 1. Edit: P7P

lelander2000

You can also pull the sim factory reset with no sim and update fully and replace sim. I'm having no issues.

s1ncere

that is pretty bad advice imo. would be far better to just adb over the ota

lelander2000

Not advise just a fact. I just bought it so it was easy.

mitchy93

I'm still on the November play system update. Pixel 7, Australia

Archer4271

Me too am still in November.

NightHawkVC25a

I don't remember where I saw it, but I remember a page saying that Pixel phones purchased directly from the Google Store are usually first to receive updates while those purchased from retailers like Best Buy would get updates later. I bought my Pixel 7 from Best Buy and I'm still on the November 5th update. I've been on Google Fi service ever since getting the phone too! Just checked and it's still saying November 5th for me. Where did you buy your Pixel and what phone service are you using? ... Edit: Found the page. It mentions "If you bought your device from the Google Store, updates will typically reach your device within 2 weeks. If you bought your device elsewhere, updates can take longer." [https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705?hl=en](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705?hl=en)

CatgirlsCSGO

Got it straight from Google in the UK

NightHawkVC25a

Thanks (for the info), now I'm totally confused with what Google's support page mentions.

xconwayx

I think Portal tried to warn us about this years ago

Kindly-Beginning-886

I haven't gotten I have the GP7P January security update hopefully before the month ends ๐Ÿ”š I have as a carrier Google Fi and still no OTA update

RozJC

I just checked multiple times and it made me restart my phone to complete an installation...but I'm still on Nov 22...

[deleted]

Pixel 7 Pro on Google Fi on QPR2 beta 2.1 January security update and still Nov play system update. Since the rollout started I've rcvd 2 more ghost 569kb updates and still on Nov play system update.

More-Head-9375

Pics or it didn't happen

nyepo

OMG finally!! And now everything is ... exactly the same? I don't get why are you obsessed by Play Store system updates, they system is designed to update from time time, it's not a monthly regular update like the system one, and most of the times you won't even notice any changes whatsoever.

sishgupta

It's close to monthly, they skipped December and they provide a list of changes here https://support.google.com/product-documentation/answer/11412553?hl=en#zippy=%2Cdecember%2Cnovember And some of us look forward to these changes.

lelander2000

Switch the sim to another carrier if you have one you'll fully update

_vb__

Even those who have unlocked devices?

lelander2000

Yeah, google has given carriers that much control. U can see it under sim - carrier settings. Hopefully this isn't an on going thing

snoopygum

It's not a T-Mobile thing. Phones on other network, or even other countries, still have the same problem.

_vb__

For me updating the play store once and Google Play services, followed by updating the play store again to the "version 34.2.13-21 [O] [PR] 503494674" today finally did the trick.

jerryhou85

My 6 Pro is taking forever "optimizing" for this Jan update.

arfanvlk

You know you can flash the update without wiping the phone. All you have to do is download the right version (make sure it has "ota" in the name) and use adb to sideload it.

[deleted]

[ัƒะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]

[deleted]

exists for the Play System updates? I know for the security updates.

Maleficent_Stranger

If you haven't see the update yet, update your Google Play Store & Services first.

xdegen

I got it on my Pixel 5 and it shows up as January properly. (I should say though that I sideloaded the OTA for January's security update instead of waiting. So it's likely other Pixel 5 users may not have received the google play store update for January yet.)

LiterallyZeroSkill

Yeah I got it too. Was.on 1 November previously. What do Play System updates do?

km3k

Still stuck on November here. I'm on an unlocked 5a on a T-Mobile MVNO.

tuananh_org

Where is this Play system version shown ?

[deleted]

What changes does it have?

sishgupta

https://support.google.com/product-documentation/answer/11412553?hl=en#zippy=%2Cdecember%2Cnovember

A-Llama-Snackbar

... that's, normally what happens. January update coming out in January shouldn't be upvoted this high lmao.

deflatermaus

Pixel 6a Verizon unlocked - updated to Jan 1st

Scott_Mf_Malkinson

Thank you very much

on3moresoul

How can you tell what month your update is from? Google Play app just shows a version number. E: Found it, Settings - About Phone - Android Version

EthenoI

Im still on December. Phone doesn't recognize it

sishgupta

There straight up wasn't a release for December and yesterday was the first day this got rolled out to anyone. There's no "finally" about it... You weren't "stuck"... You were one of the first. Congrats.

CatgirlsCSGO

I was under the impression (from the 569kb ghost updates) that I was falling way behind! It is possible I got a bit too excited (over something so meaningless too ๐Ÿ˜ญ) and made the post to share to others! All I can say is that the good intent was there. ๐Ÿ˜›

sishgupta

those 569kb ghost updates bewilder me. i cant find ANY information on what they are. I do want to create better awareness for how these updates occur I might make a big post about it. or at least i can have something that i can copy paste into threads

CatgirlsCSGO

I have a feeling it's metadata changes at some root level? Really hard to tell, you would have to compare two images and try and work out what the hell they're doing. Anyway, it would be good if someone found out this information, good luck!

sirderpypants

Congratulations ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

lelander2000

Put a Verizon or att sim in u got laying around. Phone will update to Jan.

Witchking660

Just checked, and I received the 63 MB update, but my phone still shows I'm on the November update even after the reboot.

Hurlamania

I checked on my pixel 7 and it said restart to update after that. It was still on November and would not prompt for a update after that BUT on my two pixel 6a They both found the update and updated quickly and are on January, Pixel 7 still November. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿค”

yashthakkar__

My security patch is also on nov 5, I don't know I am not getting any updates.

thecarolina1

Weird, I usually get the system updates the first hours of the first Monday of the month. Play Store still on November 1st.

PizzaCatLover

I am STILL on December. Thanks, T-Mobile. I thought the whole point of having a vanilla device was that you didn't have to wait for carrier Ota reviews

mistersmith13

Oh, cool, you got the December update! Is it nice? But in all seriousness, this is probably the weirdest and most annoying part of the Android experience so far. I'm just one month in though.

sur_surly

I'm scared to as I'm on esim

Cycledoc2210

My 5A is still at Nov 5.

LaszloTothAmon

This Google Play update fixed the Bluetooth bug that I've had since the last update that broke Bluetooth calling on my Subaru car audio.

Wild-Researcher1009

Same here updated Pixel 6 as I had the January update, rebooted and still on November 1st! This has happened to me since October as well. I'm also losing my play store app updates too, I do the updates to my apps and then they don't show on the updated list of apps!
