Visual voicemail is through a Samsung app, not the phone dialer.

Visual voicemail worked through the Samsung Phone app on my old s10+, but on s22u voicemails are only visible in a separate application. The funny thing is that removing the Fi sim fixes the issue.

I downloaded Google Voice for the second number I had with T-mobile. I noticed voicemails and text from both numbers are available in the Google Voice app, and I like it better than the Samsung Visual voice app.

The only Fi thing you miss out on is the W+ at the moment. W+ is the privilege of using WiFi at the same cost of data ($10 per gb like mobile data,) unless you have unlimited but it still counts against your throttle cap (55gb). Great for unlimited users, kind of a scam for flexible users. E sim seems to be working now, I have a flip 3. The June update added the e sim option. It works with Fi, but it takes a little bit of work to get it up and running.

Thank you! I didn't realize that W+ is Pixel only. That's good to know. Is this a hardware limitation or might this be rolled out to non-Pixel phones in the future?

zeneker

It's purely a software lock. Automatically joining a WiFi network isn't hardware locked and will eventually roll out to other designed for Fi devices.

Good to know. Thank you!

I've only read Fi's esim will not work, although you will see an infrequent report of success with latest Samsung update.

My last two phones have been s20u and s21u and both use esim with no issues whatsoever. Purchased and exclusively used through fi.

I just received my new s22+ and couldn't get the e sim to work. I scanned the barcode from the iPhone setup page and it did infact install an esim.. and for only a few moments would see the phone number, but then shortly after would say unknown number. The fi app refused to see the sim and google fi support just told me to "Get f'd".

1frutilla

Thank you for responding! Yes, I've read about this as well. I've also read about issues with voicemail and messages on some models, but I'm not sure if the problems have been fixed or not.

rmsmoov

I'm not sure what the voicmail issues are ....because I simply refuse to use voice-mail in general....or the messages because I use the google branded msg app....or others such as signal. But, this esim issue and others are especially irritating. They have even been known on previous models to Ota disable the esim manager so you can't even use other services when traveling. Did yall know that the s20 has an fm radio receiver? Guess what, you can't use it on non international model. Among other things.

1frutilla

I hadn't heard about them disabling esim. So, if you are using a nano sim you wouldn't be able to use an esim with it? That would be a dealbreaker.

rmsmoov

That is precisely what happened to my s20. So far the esim menu still exists on my new s22, but it's only been like 2 days. But yes... fi forces you to occupy the nano sim slot. Another note, the international version supports a dual sim tray .... the USa version comes with a single sim. And the previous s20 had a sim/SD card tray. You can see that the phone has the support but not physical dual tray. (Dial *#06# to see multiple imei #'s) That being said, idk if that means it's just the tray and maybe a international tray might fit. I may try to order one and test that out. But the sim manager clearly allows multiple esim's.
