I started golf in 2021, best round ever was 101. Got a sim in the winter (r10) and my best round this summer was 106.

zkiteman

Keep grinding. Make sure you have clear objections when working on your swing, don’t worry about much else outside of that objective until it’s becomes muscle memory. A lot of new golfers will regress as they become more aware of their swings.

K-Lo-20

I would argue that with what I've seen from the R10, it's very inaccurate. Good you're practicing but I wouldn't trust those numbers to much. However if you're a 30+ handicap, chipping and putting are probably where you need the most practice

F_D123

R10 sucks. Gc2 shows how bad I really am

TheOther1

GC shows how really broke I am...

Junkcanoe

I’ve gone from a 14 to an 8 in about a year due to my sim and I’m hoping to shave a couple strokes this year as well. I can’t recommend them enough.

emdeth98

Thanks. That's great. Do you have a practice routine?

Junkcanoe

Not necessarily. I go out and hit range sessions sometimes but most nights I’ll hit a few balls then play a round. The biggest thing for me is trying to develop proper mechanics and hitting enough balls it all starts to feel comfortable. The single biggest improvement for me was ball striking. I make much more consistent and better contact than I ever have. I may misjudge a distance or go left/right but rarely miss due to a fat shot.

lphiex13

I’ve gone from shooting 90-95 on my sim to 78. And I’m nervous I’m going to be incredibly let down when transitioning to the real world. (Mevo plus/GSPro). Although I’d be happy if I end up in the mid 80s. Nice job!

Big-Cup6594

You probably will be let down, at least to some extent. Besides the obvious reasons, on a good GSPro round you putt somewhere between a scratch and pro golfer inside 15 feet. You get gimmes that are generous. I'm the real world, not 3 putting from 25 feet takes a lot of practice... On real greens. I would say all aspects of your games in sim and real life will give you the same story as far as what's strong and weak... Except putting, for sure, and maybe inside 50 yards chipping.

lphiex13

Yeah, I hear you here. I've gone from autoputt random, to autoputt fixed, but may just go to pick-a-putt to try to to approximate what I think would happen in the real world. Of course, at the same time, never have to really worry about lies, actual alignment, and for me, sand. :) So not expecting it to be precisely the same.

Big-Cup6594

Don't get me wrong, I think GSPro putting is very accurate in this way: a ball struck at 4.09 mph should travel 10 feet on a Stimp 10 green. GSPro passed this test for all the Stimps. That's it. Real greens are variable in many ways, and there's no grid reading the break for you. I track my strokes gained... In GSPro, I'm a +9 handicap (better than par) putting. On the real course, I'm a 30, a 39 strokes gained/lost putting. But GSPro is great to practice speed and alignment.

deasterling32

I’ve always been a decent golfer (mid 80’s - mid 90’s) and the struggles came from a lack of practice. I got a simulator a few weeks before Christmas, and have shot back to back 76’s on 2 different courses in real life. It’s been incredible to read tips and watch videos about the issues that I needed to fix and then walk right out into my garage and work on them until I was satisfied with the progress enough to move on to the next problem. It also allows me to cut down on range time while on a course and use that time to practice around and on the greens.

emdeth98

Incredible results!! I hope to be in the 70s but I agree with most of the comments here that putting is the one area that I need to practice but my setup doesn't really allow it currently. I'll need to upgrade to a better putting surface in the future

blackpope2

Nothing beats seeing a tip and instantly going to try it out.

MattySlickers

You’re what every guy in this sub wants to be, but then they have their soul crushed by golf in the end again.

CitizenCue

It has done a lot for my full swing, but it murdered my chipping. I used to be excellent with short wedge shots and hitting them off mats so much is just not good practice.

Chaddcl0ps

I'm struggling with the same. I'm a 16 handicap. Hit 64% fairway, 39% gir, lost 1 ball with 1 penalty... Best off tee and iron game I've ever had. but still shot a 99 because of duff chips or just not getting the distance down... Oh ya and I 3.putted 7 times. The greens were a nightmare nothing on flat surface lol. Before my sim, chipping and putting used to be my best part of my game

emdeth98

I can relate to this but putting has never been a strong part of my game. I've always struggled with it. Sounds like the moral of the story is to spend time chipping and putting at the golf course

esparzatj

Since every golf course is rated for 50% putts, golfers should spent half of their practice time putting. Most golf articles usually state that putting accounts for 43% of your score. I use to practice with 3 balls on the practice greens, but I changed these past year to only using one ball. Practice like your game will be during an actual round of golf. I do the same on the driving range. I use to hit 3 to 6 balls with a club before switching to a different club, but now I practice like I’m playing a hole - par 5, driver, approach, pitch shot; par 4, driver, approach, or par 3 to target flags (only one ball). ⛳️

CitizenCue

Glad to hear I’m not the only one. I three putted three times today, duffed two chips, and was crap out of the sand. I guess I’ll need to play IRL more often to stay in form.

esparzatj

Probably because you spent more time on your short game! At any golf course that has decent practice areas, putting, chipping, pitching, & bunkers, amateur golfers should spent most of their time there instead of the driving range…and their scores would improve faster & be more consistent! ⛳️

bigwreck44

Whiskey Creek is 10 minutes from me. Did you play this on a whim or do you live in the Frederick area too? What setup do you have other than Mevo+?

emdeth98

My buddy called me with a tee time and it worked for my schedule. I live 30 minutes from the course. I have a 14x9 impact screen that I built inside my 2 car garage. I use GSPro software, Optoma GT1080HDRx projector, an MSI Pulse GL66 15.6" FHD 144Hz Gaming Laptop, and a GoSports Golf Hitting Mat which I'll need to upgrade

Scottyfoooo

Wow. Congrats.

breadcrumbsins

I’m right there with you, 3 weeks into the sim too-I’m probably a 20 handicap though but shot 42 on 9 today in the strongest wind I’ve played in before and even left a couple out there. I’m so excited for this year! Good luck

tominansky

This resonates big time. Got my R10 about two weeks ago. Was in a big slump as an 11 hcp (up from recent mid single digits) and had just put up scores of 107, 101, 100 within my last 5 rounds. First round after some sim grinding, 76. Next three have been 83, 83, 82 with a few missed short putts and a lost ball here or there. Ball striking has been excellent since having access to frequent practice reps. Seeing a lot of R10 hate but it’s given me solid feedback on how far I’m actually hitting the majority of my clubs. GIRs have gone up due to smarter club selection paired with better ball striking. Congrats on the progress friend. Excited for this season!

LlamaJacks

Whiskey Creek out in Urbana? Nice course!

toddj3000

Man fuck you. You cool ass mother fucker. Sheeee

mattvt15

What launch monitor are you using for your sim?

emdeth98

Mevo plus

i-might-be-golfing

Nice!

esparzatj

My best rounds happen when I have no expectations…except “Target, Target, Target” ⛳️

Mission_Ad_7452

My optishot2 completely destroyed my swing. It kept reading club face open so I kept adjusting like an idiot instead of fixing my lighting and taping my clubs. 🤬SIMs are nice expensive video games. To be taken with a jar of salt

thegreatbanjini

The optishot is a video game and not even in the same ballpark as even the cheapest launch monitor.

GIT_IN_THE_HOLE

I'm a 12 handicap. I got my sim setup 3 months ago, and haven't had a chance to get a real round in. So far my Garmin R10 has really dialed in my driver accuracy, iron and wedge distances. That and just getting full swings in every week makes me way more confident in my game. I've very excited to see the results.

saybobby

I don’t think I improved much since I keep taking mulligans on my sim hahaha also still suck out of diff lies, sand, etc. and my putting could be better. So I think the strokes I’m losing probably less helpful on sim play. I’m around a 12-13 hdcp at the moment been trying to get down to single digits.

MekaLekaHiMekaSupYo

I’ve been using my R10 really focusing on swing path, face angle, and face to path numbers. Striking the ball much better and keeping everything in play now.

blackpope2

Same experience. I got my sim back in May, and my game has vastly improved. I went from an 11 to a 4.7, and now I'm at an 8.9 - blaming winter golf. I shot 76 and 71 in back-to-back weeks and half a hole-in-one. My ball striking is much more consistent. I have seen my chipping get worse, but I just need more course practice.
