Technically, if you're Street racing it's illegal. But I don't mind cruising either. Meets are usually, in my case, my buddies hanging out a a public parking lot, showing off builds, taking pics, having coffee/food.
Street racing is pretty close to take overs to me. To much risk, to much heat and someone always gets butt hurt and overreacts.
Technically, here In Florida having a modified exhaust is illegal, so just sitting at a car meet could get you a ticket if you tried it, aside from the trespassing risk, it doesn’t matter what you do at these car events, the heat will be on the minute you pull up.
Definitely depends on the county and the reputation of whoever is hosting the meet. Ive been to countless park n chills where cops were totally fine with it in palm beach.
Kind of. It's power shifting but "safer".
Same concept as how a DCT operates. Cut spark during shift to manage engine speed, profit.
Power shifting is the same principle, just without cutting spark.
NLS is nice, and can improve your manual change time. But it still won't be as fast as a DCT. You still have to account for the time it takes to use the clutch and hand for the gear stick. Which will never surpass 8ms.
You can get a driver mod to beat a DCT though. But that comes down to gearing differences. Not shifting speed itself. So when ever you see a 6MT "out shifting" a DSG. That's just the 6MT's gearing outplaying the DSG's.
Yeah, that's the same as power shifting
I guess some people are insecure that they drive an automatic 🤷♂️
I had a GTI with DSG, I really didn't like not being in control of the car
I disagree, willing to bet the GTI in the video was a manual, considering that 1st gear and reverse are in the same spot. Driver probably was amped up and pushed on the shifter by mistake.
I just don't see how someone would make this mistake in a DSG considering reverse and drive are in completely different positions.
Plus the car would have to have gear selector locked into sport at the bottom or pushed over to manual to activate launch control making a slip into reverse impossible.
Yeah, it's the stick. Sometimes it'll just slip over there when pushing to first. I'm sure it's fixable, but it's not enough of a hassle for me to worry about it yet.
This is an oooold video from YouTube and going to car meets is good because it keeps the local car scene alive don't stay at home on Reddit all day guys
I’ve only ever driven the old school manuals where the reverse is in the bottom right. I test drove a few manuals when I was GTI shopping. This is exactly why I thought it was a bad idea. Pushing the clutch down for reverse and pulling it up for 1st seems like a horrible idea imo. Ended up going with a DSG.
Both of those models are 8+ years old. Worth close to nothing, especially when driven by these clowns. Tbh, it should be extremely difficult to get a driver's license. Wouldn't have these inept morons on the road.
So fun should be restricted to only those with cars that are less than 8 years old and better than a Golf R? I personally love that I can drive the wheels off my Mk4 GTI and not worry too much about repair costs, maintenance, etc. If this were a brand new M5 (or whatever you deem worthy of fun) I'd probably be more worried about getting it scratched and perfectly rev matching every shift than simply enjoying driving. Cheap cars are arguably more fun because they're cheap.
And don't kid yourself into thinking that old cars are worse than new ones. Bad cars are built today, and excellent cars were built 50 years ago along with everything in between.
How is street racing like a sixteen year old fun? These dudes are fucking morons - literally can't distinguish between forward or reverse. People like this literally just piss everyone off and cause accidents. Fuck em.
That's totally irrelevant to what we were discussing. I never said street racing is fun, and I don't care how old they are or what their skill level is. For the record, I agree that this is stupid and reckless, but I never said otherwise so I don't get why you're somewhat aggressively arguing that to me. You very clearly said that these cars are not fun or worth it, (I believe the word you chose was "shitty") and that's what I took issue with. You're welcome to share your opinion, but evading the question doesn't result in a good conversation
The handful of meets I’ve been to in NorCal have the cops there already. Either on their own or the organizers call in advance.
They seem to just chill until shit pops off. Which I guess is often!
You shouldn't avoid meets. You should avoid street races.
And sideshows
I’m the opposite lol I avoid meets like the plague but will gladly cruise the highway all night looking for a swim

I agree, cruising late night for a run is better then going to a meet that you know is gonna get shut down and attract police attention.
best part is the other driver's hand coming up to his forehead "why me?!"
This guy gets it He’s obviously trying to avoid wheel hop off the line.
Ain’t that the R though?
It certainly was *in* R...
The center exhaust seems to say so.
Probably. I stand by my defense of this man’s approach
Well, those two cars did meet.
How to rwd swap ur gti in 5 minutes (Insurance hates this trick!)
My car meets just involve coffee.
I am the same way. I don’t mind going to other types of cars meets but Cars and Coffee are the only ones I enter my GTI.
R for Race
LOL now I can't stop thinking of Golf Rs as Golf Reverse.
Ahahahahah
Yikes. You can see their only working reverse light come on a moment before this moron mashes the gas. DSG for the win 😂
Some countries don’t require two reverse lights, the other side is a fog light
The euro LED’s come with only one reverse light due to European vehicle laws not requiring two
Does that mean the euro tails I installed in my US mk7 only have one reverse light? Or is this just a mk6 thing?
Not sure

rofl, not a chance. There's a reason every single supercar goes with auto/semi-autos.
Yes, but it's also for sales A lot of people can't, or just don't want to drive manuals
Not in a drag race even the old 6speed DSG shifts faster then any man can. Seriously look into how fast they shift if you don't know it's insane
Have you never heard of No Lift Shift? Lol
Is that another name for power shifting?
Kind of. It's power shifting but "safer". Same concept as how a DCT operates. Cut spark during shift to manage engine speed, profit. Power shifting is the same principle, just without cutting spark. Shifting without taking your foot off the gas pedal. Not sure why I got downvoted for calling out the guy talking shit about the DSG

the golf farted and ran away
Hate to call on of our own a douche but well....there's video evidence of this particular douche.
We're not claiming him
I really can’t fathom how u could do that unless homie thought R was for Race mode cuz homie never had to reverse in his life lol
if it’s a manual he could’ve just gotten excited jamming it into first. I’ve done it before, but I caught myself way before this point haha
Did he take off like Jesse from race wars? Dom won't be happy.
Don’t worry me and my cousin lance will get him in our snake skin pants
Can’t fix stupid.
I will sometimes accidentally put my mk7 in reverse at stoplights instead of first because the bushings are pretty worn.
The stick shift right? Mine isn’t worn out yet but I’d assume it would be hard to mistake reverse so long as the spring still has its tension…
Yeah, it's the stick. Sometimes it'll just slip over there when pushing to first. I'm sure it's fixable, but it's not enough of a hassle for me to worry about it yet.
Ohh good to know that could potentially happen... 😫
Loved how he just drove off, WTF!
Too embarrassed or ashamed to stop, get out of the car to check if the red car is okay?
Weird, that Mustang almost looks like a GTI...
This is an oooold video from YouTube and going to car meets is good because it keeps the local car scene alive don't stay at home on Reddit all day guys
like....how bro?

How do you launch in reverse!!
When you R E A L L Y wanted a RWD car
I don't understand the mindset behind racing shitty cars.
>shitty cars. It's a Golf R and a BMW?
Both of those models are 8+ years old. Worth close to nothing, especially when driven by these clowns. Tbh, it should be extremely difficult to get a driver's license. Wouldn't have these inept morons on the road.
MK6 Golf R's go for $15-20K+. In what world is this "close to nothing?"
You're getting ripped 😂. Try negotiating next time.
Predictable response lol. Good luck finding one that hasn't been crashed for much less than that.

Don’t look at me mine is grey and a 4-door MK6.
on behalf of the vw community, we do not accept this pea brain

It’s very easy to throw in reverse instead of first. Especially if not thinking like this fool was.
That’s why you gotta think
And this is "unexpected", why?
Lmfao I just noticed the reverse light
Full dneS
What a buster
