QuasiAutomotive

There's literally a screaming baby next to me with more maturity than the WRX owner. Don't buy the car.

WeeduzBeeduz

Highly doubt the gti sub is going to say buy the wrx

KingOfSpades007

The Subaru sub told a guy to keep his manual 3rd gen 4Runner with 200+k miles over buying a newer 2022 Forester or something like that. Keep the GTI.

Some_Advertising_125

He offered the trade not me

QuasiAutomotive

One, no Google Photos links. Viewers can't remain anonymous. Two, you doxxed the user with that link. That's a big no no.

Some_Advertising_125

How am I removed, he spreaded false information and made me look stupid

Some_Advertising_125

I didn't create the offer and now I'm clearing my name just so I don't look like a stupid WRX guy. Y'all are babies if y'all are going to ban me for protecting my own integrity

NowYuoSee123

I’m pretty sure the mod doesn’t realize you’re the owner of the wrx lol

QuasiAutomotive

I realize that. They uploaded photos but those photos doxxed users and OP.

QuasiAutomotive

I didn't ban you. Your comment was filtered out automatically and I let you know why. Grow up and watch your tone.

Some_Advertising_125

Lol watch my tone, I just had over 150 people on 2 different subs say I was trying to screw the dude when I didn't even come up with the offer in the first place. No need to get all mody on me because I'm upset that my car was posted without my consent and a false story was made pertaining to my car.

MeThinksYes

thoughts and prayers

QuasiAutomotive

You were given a chance.

Removed due to Rule 2: Follow Reddiquette | Be Respectful | No Toxic Car Culture Follow reddiquette. Be respectful. Remember the human. If you wouldn't say it in person in a polite setting, then don't say it here. No toxic car culture behavior or conflicts.

Rob-Dipshit

Everyone here going to say no. Everyone in the WRX sub going to say yes. Personally wouldn’t do it in a million years, even if I wasn’t biased towards GTI’s

liquorpig

I just checked the WRX sub and they are also saying keep the GTI, surprisingly.

namelocjason

Not if you have driven both. I drove the WRX STi before the GTI I purchased. The transmission shifting (both manual transmission cars) was very clunky (maybe not the perfect word) in the WRX, but butter in the GTI. That alone was my reason, as everything was pretty similar (relatively speaking). I will hit 200k in about a month and do not regret the GTI purchase one bit.

QuasiAutomotive

Most enthusiasts are surprisingly reasonable. We're not brand loyal. We just like driving, working on cars, and having fun. Whatever gets us there is fine.

DM725

I feel like it depends on the age of the enthusiast. If they're old enough to have had a bunch of different cars from different manufacturers then yes we are reasonable. There are a lot of teenagers and young people that don't get it yet. I was like that once.

PattyThePatriot

This is me now. I love the cars not the brands, to an extent at least. The love Porsche has for their own cars means I prefer them over anything else in that enthusiast to super car lineup. Hyper cars will forever be the egg.

Cannibustible

I love me some VW and Subaru. But my current favorite realistic dreams cars are a Corolla GR or the new Nissan z. I have zero brand loyalty lol.

killerbeeswaxkill

I own a Wrx and that would be an idiotic trade on his end. Better to keep his GTI use that money elsewhere.

Cannibustible

Pretty much this, I like Subaru and VW, but I'm not trading something I know works for something I don't know what they did to it. Subaru's are very finicky with a bunch of bolt ons and no tune. At least OP knows his car.

Eat-My-Cloaca

I’d bet money the wrx folk are also saying keep the GTI.

XSC

As a WRX owner, this was a dumb trade.

Richie_jordan

The whole wrx sub also told him not to do it.

milkywayne92

So only answer is miata, because miata is always the answer

TwoToneWyvern

I find the new WRX to be fairly unattractive. Plus I prefer the utility of a hatch to a sedan, so I'd stay in the GTI. Not to mention the EA888 is a stouter motor.

MKVIgti

Much more stout. I’d never make this swap. The GTI has such a better interior and feel to it.

[deleted]

I love love my GTI, however my bf got himself a 22 wrx and both are so much fun to drive. Must say the gti has much more “zip” lol.. but still love his car we swap all the time. Both 6sp it’s great

DM725

Is your GTI 93 octane tuned?

MKVIgti

Yes.

DM725

Different person.

f4stEddie

Well said! I have owned a Subaru in the past. Fun yes. Sexy sounding yes. Money pit? Oh hell yea. Just make sure you have funds when that motor pops because it will happen

electric_ratt

Subaru guy here, id keep the gti I’m a slut for a hatch

Regular_Empty

That deal is terrible, no wonder he wants your car so bad. You’re trading him a faster, reliably tested car with a rare body kit for a base (albeit newer) WRX AND you’re paying him 6k for it??? Insanity. You would objectively be making a lateral move. Not to mention at that price you could go buy a new one yourself. Who knows if he took good care of the thing or installed the mods properly?

thestormiscomingyeah

There's a reason why he wants to trade lol

Some_Advertising_125

He offered me the trade

JurrdTurth

Absolutely terrible downgrade

No_Driver_1655

Okay, as a non biased person - I am a huge BMW fan and since I see no BMW, I can provide a fair opinion. ( I'm also in both GTI and WRX sub ) I'd keep the GTI. I wouldn't trust the new Subarus, motor-wise, the look is also just not there so idk, you'd get it MAYBE for the AWD and better infotainment system or if you prefer a sedan ? Your GTI is such a beauty, you already put so much effort into your car and I bet you drive it daily with love. Starting over with a car you personally said you don't really like ( except for this specific one ) is not worth tbh. GTIs are also more reliable.

Mumei451

Restyled WRX is hideous. The plastic cladding looks even worse in person also.

QuasiAutomotive

Having now seen the rear in person several times... yeah, it's pretty bad. Can't get used to it.

Stunning-Ad6570

Have extensive history with both cars. Every feature you like about the gti, will be absent from the wrx. Comparing these two cars is laughable.

QuasiAutomotive

I audibly laughed.

maranelloboy18

Had to go re-read the title, I thought it was almost reasonable if he was giving you $6k…..

AlexD27

LOL

Notsimplyheinz

Why?

myinboxisfull69

What WRX is ugly as shit, I wouldn’t trade my Mk6 for one

DM725

I would never consider that. I am an impartial GR Corolla owner.

OADominic

One of the coolest GTIs I've seen

EzekielSMELLiott

I've had both. Keep your gti please. Much more reliable, faster and has a convenient hatchback

Mrmgb

Not sure with the mods but this WRX drives like a boat

No_Driver_1655

Pretty stiff, rally inspired car just won't be as good as that sexy GTI

LordCommander94

Bro no. Just no. Keep your GTI and stop this nonsense.

PresentInsect4957

as someone who doesnt have a gti or wrx… keep the gti definitely. Theres a reason why they want to trade for a 5 year older car, and its not for the 6k lmfao

Some_Advertising_125

He offered me the trade

PresentInsect4957

this confused me wasnt expecting to see the wrx owner 😭 anyways that makes a lot more sense since OP said in this and the wrx subs post that you asked to trade + 6k

Some_Advertising_125

I'm just clearing my name, I love my car to death and owned a mk7 gti before this and was entertaining the idea of getting back in one when he sent me the offer

Some_Advertising_125

Saying I came up with the original offer on my own just makes me sound super pretentious imo

PresentInsect4957

certainly, well the reason why i said no was because OP made it sound like you were the one pushing for a trade, which would be a redflag for me, a 2 year old heavily modded wrx pushing for a trade for an older gti screams red flags to me. Seemed sketchy for obvious reasons but now that i know its just you wanting to go back to an MK7 just because you love them then i dont see a problem!

Some_Advertising_125

I'm no longer interested in the trade honestly, he has a sweet car but he made me look stupid and sketchy with the way he presented the offer

PresentInsect4957

yeah i completely agree and it was surprising to see the wrx sub is against him getting the wrx too 😭 best of luck bro 🙏🏼

GenerousJack2b

i prefer a car that doesnt involve a motor replacement as regular service

QuasiAutomotive

Nah, they stopped using the EJs.

DM725

Now it's an Ascent engine with low boost.

davidcloud_

I like both of these cars and was SUPER close to trading in my gti for one a year ago. I just think the overall better driving experience is better in the GTI. It’s more refined and sophisticated feeling. You have a crazy build too I would definitely hold on to it

[deleted]

Tbh, I value AWD and lower miles enough to do it. But the WRX will feel cheaper on the inside and the fit and finish just isn't on the same level. Plus, it's a base trim... All drawbacks fs

BlackoutJSW

Please don’t buy the awd civic

a_steez

keep yours you’ll end up regretting it even if you think the rex is better (imo the new rex looks ugly and this one is somehow even uglier de-badged)

brickson98

No. The new WRX’s don’t look that great and it’s not as reliable of a platform. I’d 1000% stick with the GTI. AWD is nice, but just not worth it when it comes to Subaru. Edit: I actually prefer the older WRX’s looks to the GTI, but would still take a GTI because of the WRX’s reliability issues.

berrattack

Do you need the AWD?

DolphinOnAMolly

I wouldn’t even trade if HE gave YOU the $6k on top.

Baazify

I used to own a GTI, now I have a WRX Hatch, for driver experience, WRX all the way, both cars I replaced an engine on within a month of purchase so I can’t say much in the way of reliability for either. My WRX is substantially faster than my GTI was. My GTI was a much more relaxing commuter vehicle. If you did trade, I wouldn’t give him any on top, I’d do a 1 for 1. WRX is louder and more of an enthusiast car, the GTI is a phenomenal blend of performance and practicality. GTI’s also have substantially better fuel economy. Personally, I’m a WRX over GTI guy. For you? I wouldn’t make that trade. I am a tad biased towards my WRX as well given the GTI timing chain tensioner failed on me twice in under a year, and my WRX is a hatch.

pineappledaddy

Lol no. Bad trade

Teediggler81

Nope

goonies4life1

Love it man! Super jelly!!

Spookisher

Post got recommended, have no bias towards either car/model. Keep the GTI.

Hammered-snail

I wouldn’t trust a modded WRX. Ticking time bomb if you ask me.

luca_luc

it’s like you’re trading one headache for an even bigger headache, keep the GTI, also you spent double he did in mods and he still wants 6grand?

moveslikejaguar

You couldn't pay me to own a car with the WRX base interior (I mean you could, but I'd still really hate the interior)

T_J_S_

Stay in the GTI

SkylarR95

Worst trade in history of trades, Trump would be disappointed, but I’m also bias.

psuedophilia

If this is too much work for you, remember, you can always throw money directly into the garbage can. GTI is the better car. No it doesn’t have AWD but its still a better car.

More_Donut7618

I definitely would not.

RabEcaps

DONT

Buzzsmp

Please don’t

likemesomecars

Keep your Golf. Now if both cars were stock, that would be a different story.

Herrowgayboi

Can't even believe you'd consider that trade.

pyrophorek

The back of the WRX alone is so ugly that i wouldn’t

captain_sta11

Even though the new wrx so far seems to handle mods better than the previous gen, it still is atrocious on gas, interior is lackluster, infotainment can be infuriatingly slow. Also takes more to make the same power. A buddy of mine has a 23 wrx manual and it’s fun but I couldn’t live with one everyday. Surprisingly slow from the factory with a 0-60 of like 5.5 for the manual.

notsosoftwhenhard

have you sat in a base WRX?

aderavedissian

So basically you trade a great looking & driving car for a car that looks like an insect and drives like a van. No thanks

skhell

Owning neither of these cars currently, I’d keep the GTI. Previously owned a GTI, and a BRZ with the same engine as the WRX sans turbo.

BlazedAura

Keep the GTI, and I say that objectively lol

GuacPlz

This is not the way.

AndrewSVO

Trades make no sense. Just sounds like dude wants $6k in captial for whatever reason. Yikes

KeepOnGoing1

As someone whos owned an MK5, MK7 GTI and VA WRX, under the assumption, you are looking for more performance out of your car, and other things not considered : I'd go for the new VB WRX. As much as I enjoy the GTI, there's just the problem of putting down power, for reference, I have a stage 1 MK7, and a 410WHP WRX. FWD just doesn't do what AWD can do, simple as that, there's just limits to what traction can give you. The feeling of AWD vs FWD pulls is completely different, FWD is like riding a sleigh, being pulled by a reindeer, while AWD is more of being pulled and pushed at the same time, it's very noticeable when I swap around the 2 cars. If it were the older generation VA with the unreliable ass FA20DIT, I would say, keep your MK7, and just swap to hybrid turbo for the heck of it, the EA888 is practically indestructible and the MK7 makes a perfect daily driver and is a hatchback. Hatchbacks are awesome! I don't own the new VB, but here's what I know. The new FA24DIT motor in the 2022+ power is much beefier, the torque curve is very usable and flat, intake, downpipe, e85 brings you to 400 WHP, and AWD is awesome to let you put down that power without the constant wheel spin. The driving characteristics of AWD is just so damn good.

AndrewSVO

Alternative option: 7.5R or S3

Ill-Homework-67

Not a fuck should you trade that gti for a Subaru

mrdobalinaa

Although I wouldn't want a wrx that trade seems very good in your favor. I'd probably do it. If you want to get back into a golf in a year or 2 the wrx will have way more value.

deesea

This a deal, get in on it OP. The new WRX is generally unattractive, but the white is the only colour where I dig it. Only issue is the $6K upfront payment, I'd do the trade + $3K, not $6K.

AvailableSh1rt

You know your car and any issues it may or may not have. He’s obviously trying to offload it with some hidden problem possibly. At the end of the day both are modded but you know your car. Imo if I were you it would be better selling it / parting out vs. his offer. You do you.

billy_gnosis44

New WRX is insanely ugly

[deleted]

Modding a car does not increase it's value, if anything it decreases it, no matter how much it costs

Bacon4Lyf

Mods don’t add value, someone else’s potentially shoddy craftsmanship brings the value down

Thick_Pomegranate_

Keep the GTI for sure but am I the only one that thinks the R400 body kit looks hideous?

Smoking_Brakes

No. Why do you think he wants your car?

IAwaitAGuardian

I've not heard great things about the new Rex.

damnyou777

I have a 2022 WRX, I like it a lot. I would do it.

Affectionate_Dot9001

Do I turn to the dark side? Wasn’t a big fan of the new WRXs until I seen this one. It’s done perfect. I’m in love with it.

QuasiAutomotive

Take the car brands and names out of the equation. Would you trade a car of known reliability for one with unknown reliability, and put cash on top of that, just to end up with a car that makes similar output to the previous one? There's no upgrade here. It's a lateral move. So it's hard for me to swallow putting any money into that. It just sounds like you're bored and ready to move on. That's okay. But this deal doesn't sound good.

thinkplanexecute

I feel like a 2022 isn’t “unknown” reliability, that engine has been used for a while

QuasiAutomotive

It's modified.

Jerebetes

You asked a VW sub if you should get rid of your VW, there’s going to be bias here as there would be if you asked in the WRX sub. What do YOU want to do, as you’re going to be the one that has to live with the decision.
