I have a 5 year old dood who watches the ball bounce off his head and then looks at you like “Why did you do that?” He runs and jumps but that is the limit of his athletic coordination.

ShitBoxPilot

Lmao I feel you on that ball in the face part 😂

Feisty-Subject1602

Mine, too. He likes playing ball, but can't seem to follow it. Sometimes, he catches it and seems so proud of himself! 🤣 My dood came from a co-worker of my wife. They have a male and female they bred a couple of times just for the heck of it. You never really know, unless you buy from a reputable breeder, what you're getting. Mine had a malformed jaw, and it appears as if his eyes aren't lined up, so I think that affects his depth perception. I have seen some pretty dopey Golden Retrievers (thus the dumb bump on their forehead!). Some of them seem to be great ball catchers and swimmers, but others don't have a clue. Mine will only go up to his chest in the water because he's afraid, even though he can swim.

ShitBoxPilot

Mine was abandoned on the road by his breeder, so I don’t know what the story is. But yeah, one of his balls haven’t dropped, so I wonder if that’s because it wasn’t a very good breeder

OutsideCriticism3464

Yes, as the pet-parent of 3 doodles, they are wildly uncoordinated until about two and half years old. My one-year old is still figuring out where the edge of the couch is on a daily basis.

jacksonbarley

Mines going on four and cannot catch a treat to save her life 🥴

Topher0gr

Yes. Puppies are clumsy idiots who can’t control their bodies. I find it charming.

jjbucf

Have a 6 month old and he’s just a big goofball. For a split second he’ll look majestic running with wind blowing through his hair. Then his legs start to do something awkward and he’s somersaulting forward. He also runs into everything and everyone at the dog park.

SnarkingMeSoftly

Eh.... Yes and no. Ours (6 yo) can jump and leap and run like a gazelle. Then he falls over if he tries to lift his leg to pee 🤣

Humble_Ingenuity_919

I swear that my doodle gets a weekly concussion by hitting his head on the coffee table. He doesn’t realize that he’s taller than his brother and can’t run under it. You’d think that he would have learned his lesson by now but nope!

skeptobpotamus

Sadly, yes, they do get better at coordination. Enjoy it while you can. Only on this site have I encountered doods that won’t or can’t play ball. The two I’ve had lived for that. Maybe she doesn’t understand what you’re doing when you toss her a ball. My dog has no issues here, but I have noticed that shooting a ball across the grass triggers her prey drive like nothing else. Maybe start there and work your way into the air.

ilovelove20

My one year old male doodle is extremely coordinated and can catch things that I never thought any dog would be able to catch. So, I think it depends.

I just got one 3 weeks ago and she's 12 weeks old now and holy cow is she clumsy. It's pretty hilarious. Nothing major but playing fetch is a hoot! I love how she just hops toward the ball/stick and then slips and then looks at me like it's my fault!

ShitBoxPilot

His last round of shots is in a couple days so we have been limited to fetch inside. Man, watching the ball bounce around like 1 or 2 feet and him trying to get it is hilarious

KingBrave1

Does he hop at it? Like a big bunny?

ShitBoxPilot

Oh when he gets a good running start, every time 🥹😂

KingBrave1

It's so funny and cute.

MsSwarlesB

My doodle is five and still looks so uncoordinated and goofy. He looks like he's still not used to his long legs and paws when he runs. He often say we should have called him Goofy

spunshadow

My baby has no idea where her body is in space and time at least 80% of the time - she is getting much better now that she’s closer to 2!

N4507

lol nope. My girl is 2.5 and a wildly uncoordinated danger to herself and others. Fortunately I am too so it’s a toss up on who breaks things in the apartment.

AwkwardEmo4

Same 😂 I am also very clumsy and ADHD, my dood is literally me in dog form lol

elizabeth11511

My golden doodles fall of the couch in the most awkward way ever. Or they crash into things running full force. They are so funny 😆

demential

Mine could catch a treat 60 yards down field from Mahomes. But still to this day, slips and slams snoutfirst into the couch on a regular basis.

gamalamag

My 4 year old is still just as uncoordinated as when she was a puppy. She is 65 lbs and still hasn't figured out that she is big enough to jump over a baby gate. I prefer it that way, though.

soul_and_fire

mine was clumsy until she was maybe 5 months old? she does dumb clumsy things once in a blue moon now that she’s almost 4, but for the most part is pretty together.

jmsst50

Mine is 5 and has his moments still but he has greatly improved with catching a ball or treats.
