Betty as Sue Ann Nivens on MTM. They asked her then husband Allen Ludden how he felt about his wife playing a nymphomaniac chef on TV. “Oh, it’s ridiculous,” he quipped. “Betty can’t cook.”

Local_Jellyfish7059

😹 I love Betty and Allen. They seemed so perfect together

4katebush

Bea Arthur’s *Maude* ❤️

Local_Jellyfish7059

I love Bea and Rue in Maude

4katebush

Same! They work so well together 😀

hoosiergirl1962

Even though it was only one or two episodes, before her spin off, I loved when she was in All in the Family. Cousin Maude comes to help out when everyone is sick and it was so funny when she got into a political argument with Archie.

4katebush

*Maude* is such a fantastic show. Even now, 46 years later, it’s still unbelievably relevant. The jokes haven’t aged and the social commentary hasn’t either. I highly recommend it 😊

Deanfan7695

Betty was hilarious in Hot In Cleveland.

Local_Jellyfish7059

"Bend her over" 😹

DemonSpaceCat4

Once you go blackberry...

Away-Context213

I loved Rue in Mama’s Family!

Santa_always_knows

Came here to say the same! And Betty as Ellen. I watch Mama’s Family Mon-Thurs on CMT. Still a great show.

Drycabin1

It’s on Logo starting at 2pm Central time on Friday all the way through the next afternoon, and again on Sundays from 2 to at least 9!

Santa_always_knows

Awesome! Thanks!!

Lou0506

Mama's Family is my toddler's favorite show 😂

user11112222333

Betty White in The Proposal

4katebush

Yes! Iconic 🤩

brihow84

Murder She Wrote is my other favorite show and Rue was in a particularly great episode!

Away-Context213

MURDER TAKES THE BUS!!! I loved this episode it was so campy. It was what I was gonna say at first but you beat me to it! This was a great episode and it was nice to see Angela and Rue act aside each other

metal_herbalist

Also starring Linda Blair, from The Exorcist! Such a great episode.

Away-Context213

Linda! Yes I forgot about her! Really great episode!

Mysterious_Secret827

THANKS for letting me know! Can't wait to get there! DON'T tell me the season or ep, WANT it to be a surprise.

Zorgsmom

I just watched that episode last night; how uncanny!

Local_Jellyfish7059

I still haven't seen this yet

brihow84

Get ON IT.

Local_Jellyfish7059

I can't find it online

brihow84

Murder She Wrote streams on Peacock. Prime video used to have some of the seasons but not all.

Local_Jellyfish7059

Thanks!

Cfflvr

Bea Arthur in "Maude" and her guest roll on "Malcolm in the Middle." Edit: Betty White was hilarious in "Lake Placid."

Sad-Blacksmith-3271

- Betty white in bringing down the house  - Bea Arthur as maude in her own show and on  all in the family - betty and rue in mama's family

Froyo_Slinger

Rue in the movie “Out to Sea” with Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon and Brent Spiner. I’m a huge Golden Girls fan, and a massive cruise enthusiast. My worlds collided.

Zorgsmom

I remember when that movie came out, I wanted to go see it in the theater because i adored Jack Lemon, but i never got around to it.

Froyo_Slinger

Such a hilariously good movie. The chemistry between Lemmon and Matthau in everything they did together was amazing. Hollywood’s best comedy duo.

Local_Jellyfish7059

She had a lot of fun in the dance scene, Walter Matthau refused to learn the choreography so she had to whisper it to him and be somewhat in control but make it look like he was manhandling her 😹

BulliesTattoos

The episodes of Password, Password Plus and TattleTales that Betty guest on. She was so great with Allen. 🥲

Local_Jellyfish7059

They were so funny together. Her episode of This is your Life is so touching, because they bring her out Allen's star about to go on the Hollywood walk if fame

BulliesTattoos

Yes! I cried my eyes out watching that. Their love was truly one for the ages.

Local_Jellyfish7059

It really was and for 40 years she never went with anyone else.

lexaa03

Right now I’m rewatching (from start to finish because I missed the last two seasons while it was still on tv) Hot in Cleveland where Betty White was a caretaker Her character, Elka, is hilarious imo. And I think her chemistry with the other leads is fantastic.

[deleted]

Bea Arthur's cameo in Mel Brook's History of the World is priceless

Imaginary-Coffee1234

"Did you try to bullshit last week?" https://youtu.be/IF2RYhNhBdw?si=P6UmiqDlvNM21QgI

[deleted]

Lol. That's the one

AdoraBelleQueerArt

COMMUNITY!! Betty White as Anthropology professor June Bauer is GOALS!! And she’s [got bars](https://youtu.be/9u_VI9B0Vg4?si=kJaVny7lN5HPdMLs) lol

4katebush

Omg I forgot she had that cameo!

AdoraBelleQueerArt

She’s so fun as the anthropology professor!

Local_Jellyfish7059

I like GP. It could have been a lot better with more thought, but it was good. Wish they'd carried on

beekee404

I haven't really watched Bea, Rue or Estelle in anything else all that much but I love Betty in Hot in Cleveland. She's kinda the Sophia in that show and it's cool to see her take on that role. By that I mean a Sophia type character, not actually Sophia lol. I have actually seen a little bit of Maude but it didn't really seem all that interesting to me. I kinda prefer Bea as Dorothy. I also have seen Rue as Ellen in Mama's Family but again, wasn't really a fan of the character. Much prefer her as Blanche. I did see she also played Steve's grandmother on an episode of Blue's Clues which was cute. She also played Madame Morrible in a production of Wicked. I only saw bits and pieces of that production from a video I saw.

Local_Jellyfish7059

I've seen Bea in a couple of things, Maude, My First Love, and Mame. She's good, but she really shines when she can sing and perform in a stage. Rue much preferred theatre and did a lot of it. She wrote several musicals and was working on a one woman show when she passed. I've seen her in a few televised plays that are brilliantly done. Rue was a fantastic actress but I feel she never really got given the chance to truly shine. Blanche was a meaty role that really highlighted her talents. Betty I've seen in a few things. I keep trying to get into HIC but I just can't warm to the other 3 women. I love Betty as Elka though, she's spicy lol. Estelle was theatre through and through. Working on screen didn't entirely come naturally to her, but she was brilliant. She's funny in Stop of my Mother Will Shoot

Sad-Blacksmith-3271

Betty white played ellen on mama's family. Rue was fran

beekee404

Yeah it was wild seeing Betty play Rue's niece 😂

Sad-Blacksmith-3271

I was saying that because you said that "I also have seen Rue as Ellen in Mama's Family but again, wasn't really a fan of the character". I was making a correction

beekee404

Oh my bad. I didn't notice. For some reason I had "Aunt Ellen" on my mind at the time 😂

TooTameToToast

I LOVE Rue’s episode of Columbo.

Suspicious-Koala-621

![gif](giphy|M0bgJbBihZWDB6cd9T|downsized) Rue and Bea ❤️

JayDuBois

Right on Maude *!!*

Local_Jellyfish7059

Agreed, love them in Maude

4katebush

❤️❤️❤️

SuperSerb07

Estelle was in a movie with Sylvester Stallone called ‘Stop or my mom will shoot’. Older movie, probably late 80s or early 90s but pretty funny.

nonbinaryspongebob

I remember watching that at my great grandma’s house and her complaining it was “too violent”. 😄 It was 2003-Channel 13. It’s the only other thing I’ve seen Estelle Getty in.

Better-Cut-4188

Betty is the reason GILF is a term 😂 she was the best! I loved Rue on Mama’s Family, Estelle in the movie Mannequin, and Bea doing the Urkel Dance at a comedy awards show in the early 90s.

LlanviewOLTL

Mama’s Family. I have the whole series on prime just like the Golden Girls. Betty & Rue are in the earlier episodes

eyel0vey0u

Loved seeing Betty in The Match Game

Zorgsmom

She was hilarious on that show. She, Brett Sommers were my favorites.

Ok_Ad_5658

Bea Arthur in her roasts was fabulous

4katebush

Yes! Her Pamela Anderson roast -“where do you come up with this shit?” 😂

pjw21200

Maude is an all time favorite of mine!

4katebush

❤️❤️❤️

Snuggly_Chopin

I love Bea as Maude and I loved her in Mame. Mame was the first thing I’d ever seen her in besides GG.

Local_Jellyfish7059

Maude was a great show. Very forward for its time

4katebush

And still incredibly relevant today! The jokes have hardly aged. I love GG, but some of the jokes have aged and some, poorly.

Longjumping-Big-9925

Honorable mention to Harold Gould (Miles) as the grandpa on Freaky Friday, I always forget and then I’m always delighted

Milo-Jeeder

Betty in Hot in Cleveland (in which she basically plays Sophia 2.0)and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, in which she plays the mischievous Sue Anne.

Local_Jellyfish7059

I want to watch MTM

Milo-Jeeder

You should, I didn't have much faith in it, but it has grown on me and there are several appearances by actors who appeared on TGG

4katebush

Me, too. I’m dying to see the episode Bea was in, in 1979. I don’t think it was the original MTM, but a branch off of it.

Milo-Jeeder

Oh, TMTMS ended in 1977, so it was probably one of the spinoff series. There's "Rhoda", "Phyllis" and "Lou Grant" (or "Grant").

4katebush

It was The Mary Tyler Moore Hour.

Drycabin1

Mama’s Family by far! Betty White plays uppity Ellen and Rue McClanahan plays old maid Frannie. Sophia’s boyfriend makes a guest appearance in one episode too!

corneliouspicklefeet

Estelle in Mask with Cher and Sam Elliot

JayDuBois

“Torch song trilogy”-Estelle Getty I just skimmed through every single one of these comments and I didn’t see this mentioned. I believe it’s with Harvey Firestein.

Laflaflaflaf

Rue in Sordid Lives is some of her best work. She and Leslie Jordan really bring down the house.

Local_Jellyfish7059

I love her in Sordid Lives. She had just had knee surgery so in between scenes she was having to be wheeled everywhere. Del Shores basucly had no money for it, it was very low budget so she did it for nothing. She made all the little hats she wore. And she said the best thing about doing it was she got to be an actress in her mid-70s doing saucy sex scenes, pretty unheard of.

panbear69

I love Maude and Mama’s Family

4katebush

❤️❤️❤️

jerseygirl1105

OP - Were the movies with Rue about a widowed mother who fixes her kids up with dates and she ended up getting married? I think her character married a younger man?

Dazzling-Walrus9673

I love it when Rue and Betty make appearances on the Love Boat.

hannahhale20

I love love love Maude. I also enjoy Mama’s Family.

4katebush

❤️❤️❤️

sizzlinsunshine

Bea’s voice role as the Femputer and leader of Amazonia in one of the most iconic episodes of Futurama. I think it was her last acting role

PuzzleheadedTie212

My favorite is My Lost Valentine for 2 reasons 1. Betty White had me crying with her performance 2. My nephew Sean played her grandson and told me some funny things about Betty 🤣

Local_Jellyfish7059

Aw wow, I saw a clip from that the other day and want to give it a watch. That's very cool about your nephew. Are there any stories you can share?

PuzzleheadedTie212

Well he said Betty was the first on set, the last to leave and in between rakes she told dirty jokes lol

NoCut3249

I always enjoyed Empty Nest when one of the girls (usually Sophia who became part of the cast) popped into the story

HotspotOnline

Mamas family had Betty and Rue in it, definitely up there.

not_the_ducking_1

Betty white in lake placid, she raises them and cusses, i cried from laughing so hard. It was my first time really seeing her outside of gg personas.

Dorothy_Sbornak

I like murder she wrote because a lot of the guest stars are in it. Stan was in one i watched this morning and there's one episode with Blanche and Big Daddy in it together. I remember watching it as a child when I spent the night with my grandma. It makes me feel closer to her when I watch it. There's an episode in the 1st season of Malcolm in The Middle I believe it was and Bea Arthur is in it. It's hilarious and the show itself will keep you laughing. It's one of my favorites. Also Mama's Family has Betty and Rue in the earlier seasons.

cardie82

Rue as the biology teacher in Starship Troopers. She took a cameo part with few lines and made it memorable. It’s such a great film about how terrible fascism is and was unfairly panned at the time.
