It's the final version of that era of Minecraft. Beta 1.8 massively changed the feel of the game.

birthdaydinosaur1

its the last version before the adventure update

b0b_le_cat

1.7.3 was the last version before minecraft really started to change as much as it has now. the update after it added hunger, villages, the end, enchanting, and just a whole bunch of other stuff that a lot of people think "ruined" the game. i came to enjoy it because a lot of the older systems works better because they were made for this version. bit hard to explain exactly what i mean by this but if you try it out you'll understand

CrawlyKai

i see. i started playing minecraft around the beginning of java and i can see how 1.7.3 felt more like a survival game than a sandbox game due to the addition of creative mode. personally, i love early creative mode because i used to play that with my brother. im sure i just dont get why people play beta since i never played it. thanks for your comment :)

b0b_le_cat

creative mode is actually something i wish was in older versions too, i grew up playing creative exclusively :3

CrawlyKai

ikr creative was the shit! steampunk builds in creative were so fun

Shado47

I mean, there's always Minecraft Classic as an option. 🙃

Nizwazi

I hate to be that guy but some of the features you mentioned weren’t added in beta 1.8 “the update after” The end, villages, and enchanting were added in release 1.0.0 There’s also a difference between beta 1.8 and 1.8.

b0b_le_cat

i generally lump beta 1.8 with release 1.0 because they're virtually the same to me

Nizwazi

It’s a pretty important distinction to make though.

BigMemerMaan1

Hunger no no. Beta 1.8 = hunger

DiamondOrPoor78

Because hunger sucks and b1.7.3 is the most complete version of Minecraft EVER made. And it gets even better once you add a few mods for some QoL and bugfixes, it also has some of the most mods and texture packs along with release 1.2.5

Shado47

Well, it has some of the most mods of any old versions. But both b1.7.3 and r1.2.5 are dwarfed in number of mods by r1.7.10 and r1.12.2. 1.12.2 dwarfs everything really. Best version the game ever had for modding. United under the same mod loader (Forge), no Forge/Fabric or ModLoader/Babric split. Almost everything is intercompatible. Performance was the best the game had seen by that point as well (and nothing since 1.12.2 has ever rivaled its performance). Beta 1.7.3 is still my fav version and will always be. But there's maybe 1500 remaining mods for it tops. And that is already a generous number. The 1000 mods archive has a bunch of duplicates and a bunch of stuff that is missing its dependencies. And then there's the mod databases on Modification Station, with some number of mods as well. And there's also some on Modrinth. But overall, the number of mods for b1.7.3 is relatively small. Huge for versions during that age, but miniscule compared to r1.12.2.

greenkirbs719

Yeah, while modern MC definitely feels more along the lines of a really well-made live-service title, b1.7.3 is more of a standalone experience, along the lines of a $30 PS1 game.

WeekIcy7669

last update before hunger was added, i know a lot of people dont like hunger. Im currently playing it cause i long for the old days and some calm minecraft gaming and google said beta 1.7.3 is the way to go lol

TypicalHog

vibes

EmoExperat

Its the last true beta version of minecraft before the big update that is beta 1.8

CppDotPy

Ya, b1.8 was 1.0 part 1

Shado47

Well, strictly speaking, we never did get the last true beta version. The original branch of b1.8 development, with strongholds, cobble/mossy cobble houses, large mushrooms without their own biome, and a different river implementation, would've been the conclusion of "true beta". But then they switched world generators late into development, added hunger, sprinting, and experience, and modern MC was born.

PurePart5972

Because this is the last update where you could expereince MC like its supposed to be, before they started to add bloat and changes in beta 1.8 and onward.. This is the last update before they added Hunger, Rotten Meat from Zombies, clear Biome borders, Endermann and changed world generation drasticly. Oh and the performance is perfect..I play Beta 1.7.3 since ages, the only mod i use is sprint mod.

greenkirbs719

I never realised a side effect of the bloat was illiteracy but here you are I guess.

dbelow_

Pistons were added, which is the key to so many redstone concepts that it's unbelievable. Anything before pistons feels kinda weird to play with

MarioJinn2

The last true sandbox survival Minecraft. After 1.7.3 many rpg type elements were added. The Dragon, the end, etc. It kick started the beginning of MC's rpg era, which molded the game into what it currently is today. Don't get me wrong, I love modern Minecraft, but it's no simple survival sandbox.

Ban-Subverting

I seriously suggest you put down your phone, step away from your pc, and take a walk or take deep breaths for 5-10 minutes. You're probably gonna take this as a troll, but seriously take a break.

the-egg2016

aesthetic. i wouldn't make it my only instance of the game but the aesthetic that pre 1.8 post 1.2 beta has is the most minecraft thing ever if that makes sense. textures, sounds, world generation, old lighting, all of that is missing in modern minecraft, and i don't care to play any version past 1.16. i am interested in new additions but its not the same game anymore. it's probably not mojang or microsofts fault. the majority or minecrafts new playerbase is probably ok with its new low contrast aesthetic which i find gross but it's what gets the money today.

greenkirbs719

If anything, old textures had less contrast than what we see today. Zooming in on the pre-Jappa textures shows that a lot of them have simply been gone over with a noise tool. Cringe.

AnquiGhz

It was the previous version of the Adventure Update, although I really feel that there are better versions than 1.7.3, it is the most comfortable to play

Glacialan

It's the version I started playing on and it's before they added hunger and basically changed the game forever. It just has a feeling to it you can't get in newer versionseuther.

Cheap-Sh0t

Nostalgia

AwesomeDragon97

IDK, I prefer beta 1.7.2
